I don't particularly care for "Happy Holidays," in the sense that I want to use my largest knife and gut the utterer of that horrid phrase, then decorate his head with his intestines while I flay him with my sharpest boning knife. Wait....did I say that out loud. I am immensely pleased to be Jewish, and wouldn't have it any other way, but the reality is that America is, for the time being, a Christian country, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying "Merry Christmas!" In fact, it is a rather nice phrase that conjures up notions of kindness and fellowship and happiness and all sorts of anti-SJW sentiments. So when you see me on the street, please don't say that horrid phrase. A simple, "Merry Christmas" is a delight, and it is a phrase that should be much more widely used. And if we are going to be honest, Christmas isn't really just a religious holiday any more. It is secular and inclusive and a lovely excuse to smile and be happy and say nice things and overtip and let the earnest but hopelessly incompetent clerk think that he is doing a good job. Life is going to have lots of chances to beat him into the dirt, so maybe you not taking the first swing is a good thing. So...From this Jew to you deluded heathens...have a merry Christmas.

I am already blocked by a surprising number of people on the left...people with whom I have had no interaction. Why, it's almost as if they are keeping lists!
Update I called Seth Mandel a cocksucker and immediately got some weird pop-up that informed me my access to Twitter was being limited for 12 hours. I tweeted the same thing but with a cocks#$%er instead. But...they posted the original anyway and I saw no diminution in access or speed, so....I have no idea what to do.

The recorder video reminds me of one of the oddest things I have seen recently. I was a stop light and looked at the car next to me (I do this compulsively). It was a newish Prius being driven by a man who I would guess was in his fifties. He was playing a little plastic recorder until the light changed, at which time he put it down and took off.

If you're serious about this, a good veal stock will matter more than that choice. Although veal can be really hard to find these days.
I'd go with sherry. Cognac has strong flavors that are not that welcome, though if you plan to get the onions really really brown, it won't matter so much. Fino sherry, not the sweet stuff.

On a bike, yes. It was as easy as swapping a headlight. If the high and low beams are on the same unit, there can sometimes be an issue where the circuit doesn't get as much resistance from the LED element as it would from a traditional filament, but there are inline resistors you can get for that, and it doesn't seem to happen with name-brand LED drop-in replacements. If it happens, you'll likely see both high and low beams lit at the same time (even if you haven't engaged high) and the blue dash indicator will be lit.

I was leafing through my university's latest course catalogue. This is a gem:
Case Studies in Global Justice
This seminar will introduce students in the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program to the study of social justice in an international and comparative context. In general the seminar is designed to engage scholars in analysis, discussion, writing, and action that will contribute to the development of global citizens who have the skills, perspectives, and motivation to work effectively for social justice. Each seminar will examine a particular case study while utilizing the work of Martin Luther King Jr. The seminar also provides the academic framework that explores the nexus between race, migration, and social justice. Through both individual and group work students will work to draw conclusions and life lessons from their international research and experiences.
Anyone going into this one as a normal is virtually guaranteed to come out of an abnormal. And I suspect (but obviously can't say for sure, not knowing him personally) that King Jr. would probably abhor modern identity-based "justice" movements.

I like LEDs. At least as household bulbs.
I stockpiled filament bulbs when the ban went in to effect. Hated CFLs.
But now I'm replacing incandescents with LEDs at they burn out and am very happy with them.
As it turns out, Congress didn't need to ban light bulbs. Technology, innovation, and the free market came up with a better alternative without government interfering at all.

someone needs to do something about daytime running lights. nothing looks so stupid as a car with daytime running lights that shut one side off when the turn signal is on.
while they are at it get rid of led accents on the front of cars and stupid tail lights. tail lights should be round or square and solid.

...and if you don't fix it, you'll probably be the person everyone's complaining about in this thread.
Tip: take a picture of the garage wall from the driver's seat before swapping and after. If the pattern is different - particularly if it's way up the wall - you're probably going to be glaring people.

That said, headlights have aim, and the problem with oncoming drivers may be less about their technology, and more about where the damn things are aimed, such as right at your eyes.

Yeah. I live in a city, but do a lot of driving outside the city, and I would absolutely be in favor of brighter headlights then what I currently have.

Have not, and will not. At least until they improve the optics. I see a lot of them in late-model cars, and in big trucks. Both types seem to have a problem with the cut-off on the upper edge of the pattern. As in, there isn't one. Great for illuminating night-flying owls, and blinding other drivers, but they don't get a beam down the road to illuminate distant hazards. The users drive in a brilliant pool of close light, and fool themselves into thinking their world is well-lit, but beyond that pool of light, they are blind.
IMHO, you would be a lot better off with a good set of E-code halogen lights, for a lot less money.

CFLs were a plague. Expensive, slow to warm up, lousy outdoors, often giving you a nice green zombie-like tinge, etc.
LEDs, though, have been good for me.* The one in my bedroom is on unless I am sleeping. Lasted five years before burning out.
* I have had very bad luck (overheating, flickering, early burn-out) with them in enclosed fixtures, though.

I don't think the y fully considered all the ways that people use light bulbs. Most of which trap the heat in the fixture. Even using them inverted changes the heat balance of the bulb.

Steerable headlights were invented in the 1930's, if not earlier. Never seemed to become popular. I think the problem with them is that they respond to steering wheel movement, but that does not necessarily represent where the road ahead of you is going.

The Europeans were a lot more adroit at adopting bulb-type halogen headlamps than was North America. Hence the "E-code" on the lenses. France also went with "subtractive yellow" lenses, which filtered out the blue end of the spectrum, and reduced scattering in fog and snow (scattering being wavelength-dependent). That's another knock against LED and HID headlamps; they tend to be so "white" they look blue. bad for scattering.
There is a reason that foglights were (and still are, some of them) made with amber lenses.

I am sure there is an element of that. But it's harder to focus LED's, too. Traditional headlights have a wire filament that is almost a point source, so the reflector/lens optics were not too hard to work out. And they had about a century of experience doing it, too. LED's have a cylinder with strips of flat emitters over an inch or more. Not a point source at the scale of the reflector.

It probably depends on the design and build quality of the LED. The lamp I replaced was an H4, so it has discrete high and low filaments about 3/4" long or so, suspended across a transparent tube. The LED I replaced it with has a solid tube with a single element 1/4 the size of a postage stamp on top for the low beam and on the bottom for the high, with one of them further forward (I forget which one). It's very clearly designed to use the reflector to cut off the low beam pattern so it doesn't glare oncoming drivers. I've seen cheaper ones that don't have that kind of design consideration and just have LED elements up and down the barrel.

Got the entire rotating assembly back in the case, and buttoned up, and the two band servos installed, with their plungers engaged with the struts on their bands.
All that remains to do is to install the valve body and solenoids, and put the pan on it. Then back in the truck it goes.

True, dat. LED headlamp design is in flux. And I don't think there are LED's on the market as yet that are as intense as light source, in terms of lumens/emitting area, as HID's or incandescent bulbs.
I am reasonably happy with the stock lamps on the vehicles I own. If I wanted to upgrade, I would leave the stock headlamps, and add on fog lights, and a halogen long-range lamp. I had that setup years ago on a Datsun pickup, and it worked great. I could see road signs 2 miles ahead.

That happened at my work a few years ago. Some guy sent an email to everyone in the organization. In this case, the organization being the US Army. The entire Army got an email from this guy. And then the "reply all" avalanche began.

Well, my Ford transmission is mostly back together again. The forward
clutch assembled easily when I put the plate stack in the right order.
Funny how that works, eh? Turns freely, now.
Got the entire rotating assembly back in the case, and buttoned up,
and the two band servos installed, with their plungers engaged with the
struts on their bands.
All that remains to do is to install the valve body and solenoids, and put the pan on it. Then back in the truck it goes.

A good cop! Really, there ought to be a rule in law that traffic lights could be treated as stop signs in the absence of conflicting traffic. "Conflicting" here meaning traffic that could conceivably reach the intersection before you clear it.
I seem to remember reading that British traffic law requires one to use turn signals only if there is another road user that could benefit from knowing your intention.

I don't know if I would say they did it right. They could have said a specific thing me period. They left plenty of room for cops to write the ticket. I will say they recognized there is an issue.

Reach out, and turn the bike off with the key. All the way to the OFF position.
Turn it back ON, and re-start the bike.
The magnetic field surge from the starter windings ought to trip the sensor coil under the pavement.
You DID think to bring the bike to a stop Dead Atop one of the sensor cuts in the pavement, didn't you?
Over the years, this worked for me about 80%~85% of the time.
Times it didn't, I'd tend to just hit it n' go, when traffic availed.
Heavy traffic at a major intersection? There'd be a car behind me, soon enough.
Here's the frustration. The crews that adjust and maintain the lights, can adjust the sensitivity of the coil right there from the intersection control box.
But, being mostly lazy, they mostly don't.

Ironic about Trump. Europe (or parts of it) might - might - be adopting a more sensible migration policy. But in the US, the situation has gotten worse, and may get much worse. "Sanctuary" crap. Asylum/family unit scam (record numbers being released into the US). Zero serious action on border security. Numbers don't lie. Unknown unknowns are always the ones that surprise you - but I don't see any realistic prospect for improvement until at least 2021 - if then.

Well...for one, that's the maximum, so I highly doubt she gets that. Better to start there and work their way down than to start low and she gets off with a slap on the wrist.
Also...that includes 4 counts. If it was just once, it would obviously be much less. So, for the one count, if you consider someone, male or female, would likely get much less than the maximum, less than half even...it's much more reasonable.

I think it's fair to say that the Left (to use your capitalization, which I like) has been more-or-less unhinged since the 2000 election.
Also, I wouldn't read too much into prominent Rs saying "the President isn't above the law." It's just a noncommittal truism that avoids the bad optics of saying "no comment."

And, if the morning host I am listening to is correct, what the Dems will do is impeach Trump. And then -
- if he is removed from office, jail him.
- if he survives, jail him the moment he becomes a private citizen.
The Dems will orgasm in public, the RINOs and cucks will orgasm in private and Trump's supporters, beaten down by endless repetitions of "respect the rule of law!" and "that's not who we are!" will, sullenly and bitterly, go back to work supporting the army of traitors and parasites who make up the majority of the country.

Poor jocks were flabbergasted. How can drinking water kill you? It can't hurt you, it's natural!!! They'd never heard of water intoxication (where a person drinks too much water too quickly, and dilutes the level of electrolytes, like sodium, in their blood, which can be fatal.)
