Meet The PetMorons

IMG_6189.jpg

I have sent in pictures of my boxer Zuke previously as a pup and about a year old. Here he is pretty much full grown at 2 ½ and a svelte 88lbs.

The picture is of him being very proud of himself for stopping 3 of about 80 leaves from blowing into the river. You can use either picture or both if you want. Love the pet thread.

Thanks Matt

You're welcome Matt. He's a handsome dog. Sounds like a funny dog. Thanks for sharing with us.

We introduced you to Cinnamon, the Matrix-loving cat, a couple of weeks ago. Here is her sister Ginger in all her “Personal space? What’s personal space?” glory. She’ll sit on her sister. She’ll sit on me. She’ll sit on Mr. CatalogingJointly. They look like they’re about the same size, but Cinnamon is all floof and Ginger, well, let’s just say she’s all chunk. (We think she’s figured out how to raid the fridge at night.) so when she leaps onto the couch (where your lap happens to be) you better tighten up those stomach muscles or you’ll get the wind knocked out! Wouldn’t trade them for the world, tho!

Thanks for letting us share our kitties!

~CatalogingJointly

Adorable sibs. Sounds as if you need some protective gear! Thank you for submitting the photo. Cute cats!

Jake the Brave and True is a six year old long coated Chihuahua and he just loves to sing and will sing upon suggestion or any time the phone rings. We don't know why but suspect it's Helen's voice on the answering machine. Now he does it in anticipation. This summer he chased a bear out of the yard. I'm not sure what he would have done if he'd caught him. He is our great protector.

Regards
Tom

Bear? OM Gosh, better keep him away from lions and tigers. Nice outfit he's wearing. We appreciate you submitting Jake's story.

Attached is a pic of our four-month-old Italian Greyhound, Brady (wife insisted we name him after Tom Brady). In this pic he's fresh off attacking the pictured miniature tree and mauling one of the Misfits to the point it needs repair by yours truly.

Brady was preceded by Oreo, our Iggy of nearly 14 years who we lost to cancer just after Christmas two years ago.

Brady's a good boy who is already housebroken but is going through the "rebellious teen" stage right now with lots of selective hearing, growling and nipping at his daddy dog-owner for about 90 minutes every evening before settling back in to his usual gentle and loving Iggy persona.

Thank you for the continued good work and Merry Christmas to you and yours! - B1bbet

Why thank you. And a Merry Christmas to you, Mrs. and Brady. Ah the joys of a puppy. Thank you for taking time to tell us about Brady.

Waiting patiently.jpg

Hi all!

Here's a couple of shots of the fabulous Gizmo showing up for the Turkey Day feed. It was a small gathering, just us and the MIL and the Resident Abyssinian Cat. First, she inspected the table while my back was turned (the hubby snapped this photo). Next, she took her place and waited politely through the meal for the turkey tidbits which were her rightful due. (FYI, two years back we invited a friend over for Thanksgiving and Miz Gizzie was most put out when his profane behind was parked in HER chair and there was no room at the table!)

Stay warm,

Tankascribe

Nice looking spread there at the Tankascribe house. Gizmo appears to have quite the life. Thanks for sharing with us!

39 I suppose it's because "Army Of One."

No, the number is for the "Big Red One," the AEF's First Infantry Division; it won the first major engagement involving American troops in WWI, at Cantigny. West Point has honored specific Army divisions for the game in the past few years. 2016 honored the 82nd Airborne, my dad's division in WWII. Last year it was the 10th Mountain Division.

41 Love all the pet pics today. The cat balancing on the bathtub faucets brought back memories. Many years ago I was taking a shower in our first apartment where no pets were allowed (but of course we and half the other renters had cats). I heard a noise and felt a rush of air and looked up to see my wide eyed kitty balancing precariously all four paws high up on the shower curtain rod. Both the cat and I were freaking out. But with no clothes on at that moment as protection from claws I was definitely the most scared. We both survived.

Last dog I had would chew himself, especially on the paws and forelegs. Turned out to be a food allergy. Switched him to a different (and much more expensive) food, problem went away. Not saying that's your dogs problem, but you may want to consult a veterinarian to help find out what the problem is.

81 " I don't know what to do about our dog Scout. "

This itching that causes pets such anguish is hard to watch isn't it. There seem to be more and more allergies affecting both kids and pets these days. We've had good success changing the pet food to a different primary protein source but even that can take a while to sort out. Many vets almost always seem to go straight to the prednisone steroid route to ease the itch but that really does have some severe side effects that should be carefully considered. Best to you and Scout.

Not trying to be a smartass but maybe try another vet and get another opinion. It sounds like it could be some sort of skin allergy.

I've had many Goldens and while they are prone to hot spots and I've had couple who developed other types of skin issues that turned out to be allergies. Had to take one to a vet that specialized in dog skin issues. Yes, they exist.

Good luck.

On the legit side, the Phillies, Nationals and a few other MLB teams have put out pet calendars (photos of players with their family kittehs and doggehs) in order to raise money for local animal rescue groups. The players are respectably dressed, however, and their pets look happy rather than stressed.

90 Thanks for the kind words, guys. Just FYI if there's a veterinary school nearby when the time comes, you can sometimes elect to donate the remains for instruction and research. If that's something you'd consider, contact them ahead of time to see if there's any form you need to sign before donating.

years old at the time.

His hobbies were passive-aggressive pouting, sunbeams, horking, and getting his face licked off by his pal Lydia.

In her case, she needed anti-yeast meds, anti-biotics and topical cortisone. Then long term, non-allergen diet - which for her meant salmon and sweet potatoes. No treats, no snacks, no bits from the table.

116 Condolences on losing Vanya Hogmartin.

Freaked, since you have tried the basics you might try MSM and tumeric for you doggie. MSM is a great natural sulfur source for collagen, cartilage etc and may have mild anti-inflammatory effects. Tumeric is touted all over the place as cure-all from bad knees to preventing cancer but it has worked for me with some general neck and back pain, got me off taking 2 Aleve(tm) every night and with 2 older dogs with arthritis adding tumeric to devils claw and MSM they had been on kept them able to romp right up to the rainbow bridge time. I buy bulk tumeric and capsules from herbalcom dot com, and bulk MSM from feed store but natural supplement places/aisles will have the curcurmin (supposed active in tumeric) and MSM in capsules for people.

Try em for a couple of weeks, neither is an immediate effect, but if they're going to help it will be showing after 2-3 weeks.

Yes, we tried a couple of different ones, and Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance (I think I remember the name correctly), worked really well for her. More than twice the price of regular dog food. Less than half the price of a vet visit. Plus, happy dog with calm skin.

Posted by: grammie winger, church pirate at December 08, 2018 04:27 PM (lwiT4)

124 Talk about perpetual motion.

You ain't kidding. It's actually worse than it sounds, because the two bitches are littermates. They have to go in kennels at night, or they will harass each other all night.

We didn't buy littermates, that would be a terrible idea. But the breeder kept one girl for herself, to show. After a couple months, she came down with breast cancer really ugly, thought she was going to die. So, she called us up and asked us if we could take her, like cleaning up her life. Of course we said yes.

Good news was, she beat it. Cancer free for two years, she put every point on that girl, all the way to Grand Champion.

225 Freaked,
If you can do it, raw is the way to go. You might go to a pet store and buy a commercially available one to start. They sell them in frozen nuggets and list portion sizes on the bag. Stick to a single source of protein and NO grains. This will give you a good base line to start preparing your own. I give my cat a combo of canned food and raw food. My dog gets a grain free salmon and sweet potato kibble and a bit of raw on top.
Also, make sure you are diligent with the flea treatments because some dogs are so allergic that a single bite can cause major issues.
