Nearly 40 news organizations have accused the Obama administration of improperly controlling images of the president by limiting the access granted to independent photojournalists while allowing free rein by the White House's own photographers.
In a letter and a meeting last week, the news outlets and journalism groups complained to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney about the practice, saying the White House has prevented an unvarnished view of government business, while encouraging officially sanctioned competition for private news organizations.

I met him the summer previously at a little airport in Washington State where I was washing airplanes. He came by asking about the parachute club there and I showed him where it was. It wasn't open yet so we chatted a bit and he left.
He didn't look exactly like the drawings and pictures, but pretty damned close. I told the FBI about it sometime later, but by then it was old news.

This began when Trump obeyed the judge's order regarding DACA.
The answer to a Judicial Branch over-stepping the powers of the Executive is NOT to go seeking relief higher up the Judiciary.
So - of course - Dems saw this and used their opportunity to seek more and more injunctions from a friendly branch that they still own - regardless of the nine at the top.
Which got us to Acosta. Trump's last chance to say No to an overzealous Judicial Branch. Also - his clearest case, over a trivial matter, and greatest
opportunity to simply refuse ... and by refusing, set his personal precedent to start refusing on bigger and bigger topics.
Trump folded. Why ? I don't know. But it was a bigly mistake. Probably fatal.
Dems should finish him now. Lawfare everything and reduce him to nothing more than a Weak Horse. Do that - and they won't have to rig votes in 2020.

My now departed mother-in-law gave my wife a book to read about some dude who brutally murdered his wife - 'jersey couple I think. Murder for hire or something like that. MIL was into that stuff.
I picked up the book and looked inside the back cover. There was a picture of the couple in 'happier times'. A picture I took when they noticed all the camera gear I was carrying and asked me to use their camera. I had them stand in the middle of this scenic bridge in Shaw Park, Jamaica. Adjusted f/stop and shutter speed, focused. Memory burn. I don't remember the slightest bit else about them.

When I was in college I rented a room in a condo. The owner's kid had another room in the condo. One day some guy showed up and crashed on the couch for a while. He was from a family who were friends with the owner. I didn't like him.
While he was still there, I found out he was hiding from some drug charges. Now I really didn't like him.
He was there for a few months, didn't pay rent, then one day he was gone.
A few months later he had a schizophrenic break and killed his Mom and sister's best friend with a knife. They found him covered in blood, wrapped in an American flag, going on and on about everyone being against him.
His parents had been trying to get him involuntarily committed because he was refusing to take his meds and he was known to be violent off his meds.

There was a heartbreaking show on ID a few days ago. A doctor murdered his wife, buried her in the basement, and covered her with a concrete floor and carpeting. At trial he claimed that the last he saw of her, she stormed out of the house and got into some car driven by some random guy. I guess Rando snuck back into the house, jack hammered the basement floor, buried her, and remodeled.
(The heartbreaking part was the effect on his then 11 year old son, now about 40. The show was Murder In Mansfield and the focus was on the collateral damage created by violent crime.)

There was a kid from elementary school who was "off". Not enough to be truly disruptive, but all the kids knew something wasn't quite right; he was just a little creepy, and he was avoided for the most part.
Circa early college a local woman disappeared from a nightclub on a cold winter night. Months later they found her bones scattered on a golf course. This guy is now in the slammer for life for the murder. Blue Hen might remember the case from the papers.
No one could have predicted this from what I recall, but he was very surely just - something ineffably wrong.

Gacy did throw some bodies in the Des Plaines River. He started doing that at the end, after he'd filled up all the ditches he had dug (or had his employees dig, some of whom ended up there too) in the spaces under his house. He covered up the bodies with lime, dirt, sometimes concrete. He also stuffed clothes or underwear or other material into their mouths, to soak up what he called "leakage." He told the cops he had considered hiding bodies in his attic after the crawl spaces were filled, but thought there would be too much "leakage."

There was a kid from elementary school who was "off". Not enough to be truly disruptive, but all the kids knew something wasn't quite right; he was just a little creepy, and he was avoided for the most part.
Circa early college a local woman disappeared from a nightclub on a cold winter night. Months later they found her bones scattered on a golf course. This guy is now in the slammer for life for the murder. Blue Hen might remember the case from the papers.
No one could have predicted this from what I recall, but he was very surely just - something ineffably wrong.

I've never eaten at Mosca's -- it's on Hwy. 90 on the West Bank of the river, out in Avondale someplace, but I've driven past it. True, it isn't fancy.
In my courier days, I delivered a package (just a flat letter, like a FedEx letter now) to "Carlos Marcello," at his place of business on Airline Highway: a game machine business. The receptionist unlocked the door for me, signed for the package, and relocked the door as I left. This was sometime in the early '80s, '80 to maybe '85. No idea if CM was even in the country then.
Ask me sometime about the brains I delivered from the Alzheimer's Foundation in California, and the fresh liver (presumably a cow's) I brought to a lady's house in the suburbs. . . .

I moved away and heard that he was dating a girl we went to school with and was in the U of Illinois. She dumped him because he was possessive and overbearing. He went to her house when she was home for a break and stabbed her mother, father and her 16 or so times before she made it to the street screaming. He disappeared from there in his dad's truck. I remember seeing the truck in the news and remember when his dad bought it new and drove it to school. He arrested several years later working in a mall in Utah.
As far as I know, he's still in prison.

Contrary to the Hollywood stereotype, not all serial killers were solitary nutjobs ranting and playing mental games. Most of the long-term serial killers were good at concealing their inner demon. They were witty, charming, nice guys and sometimes family men. Except for the times when their urge to desecrate and destroy took them and they went out to hunt... Catching them took years, decades, and they were sometimes exposed by accident.

I remember a case a long time ago where a prof at a medical school needed to go into New York City for some reason, and the school asked him if he'd pick up some specimens while he was there. Sure, no problem.
He left the box in his car while he was taking care of other business and when he came back, it had been stolen.
Fortunately, the police found the box full of human heads sitting on the sidewalk a short distance away.
I imagine the thief got quite a surprise when he inspected his haul.

Serial killers... no. Not that I know of. Several people who have murder convictions, at least one guy I know with almost 100% certainly had multiple deaths by his hands (he's dead now too, by his own hand, actually).
Two people I know who murdered their wives. Only one of those did I encounter him in a professional capacity. The other guy... well, that's a story. And I ain't gonna tell it.

I think they are in another category, but there was at least one one who was known as The Iceman. He operated as a hitman with (Roy?) De Meo in the 80's, and was off the charts, way beyond simply taking care of mob business.
There is a very good movie about him and good book by the same name, and a prison interview with the killer on true crime channels from time to time. Ted Kuklinski or something along those lines.
Reportedly he would tie people who someone wanted to die a difficult death up in a rat infested cave in upstate NJ, rub their bodies with provolone, set up a movie camera, and leave them for a couple of weeks. The fllm was made available to his clients for verification. Never was sure of that part was true or just more of his fevered imagination, but either way, the stuff of nightmares.

I'd like to know how it was, after they found the tapes, there was nothing they could charge her with. As far as I know, she was only ever convicted of some sort of aiding and abetting crime, on maybe two of the girls.

Yep. And IIRC one of the reasons he eventually got caught is because he had to dump a body before it was fully thawed. They found ice crystals in the body, then revisited the other murders.

By Bill James, the baseball writer. It's a finely told yarn, and they took some time to come up with a credible theory around all these murders that happened 100 or more years ago.

I don't know the exact wording of the plea deal they gave her. Even if it wasn't a blanket deal, I doubt that they'd want to revisit after letting her go.
It's easier to ignore the parents of the last victim, and to destroy the tapes, which they did. And remember tat they claimed to be thinking of the victims when they did.

That was Herb Baumeister. He would encourage his wife to go on trips with the children & then frequent gay bars, spend a lot of money, bring men home, and murder them. He's been linked to earlier murders in the 80's, earning him the nickname of I-70 killer.
My former brother-in-law was part of the gay bar scene in Indy when Baumeister was hunting victims. The gay community was enormously frustrated with the police at the time because they felt the cops were ignoring the disappearances. The problem was there were no bodies. Baumeister was burning them in the woods on his property. Baumeister kept killing until a victim managed to escape.
