Hasbro Offers "Monopoly for Millennials," Which... Goofs on Millennials?

Apparently this is real.

But I don't think it's for Millennials.

I think it's for everyone else -- people who don't like Millennials.

Millennials are, get this, whining in outrage about someone having fun at their expense.

Here's a story about the game, and here's one of those unboxing videos. Just to prove this is real.

One change to classic monopoly is that you don't buy real estate -- because Millennials don't -- so you instead collect "experiences," like going to a "three day music festival" or sitting in the house all day binging Netflix.

Millennials are old enough to remember when gays were a pick-on and downtrodded minority who only wanted to have the same marriage and love as anyone else.

The Gen Z crowd have only known "BAKE ME A CAKE, SLAVE!" and they don't much care for it. They see simple statements like "It's okay to be white" being denounced and calls for genocide on white men and they wonder WTF?

My kids straddle the line and it's interesting seeing the Z crowd and watching them. They literally do not give a shit what you think. The Milennials are all about winning approval and were very well behaved.

126 I'm a Millennial but this is funny and accurate. But I'd like to see a Boomer Monopoly.

Along with property you would collect pieces of the culture their generation destroyed like Divorces and Loser Kids Moving Back Home After College. There would be a new feature that added trillions to the national debt, as you collect your money then at the end of the game when you're dead, your debts come crashing down on the future generations.

There can also be a card for the JFK assassination that sends all Boomers into an emotional tailspin*

Millennial is an age range, dude. Anyone born between 1980 and maybe

senior officers and maybe some very recent recruits are technically
millennials.

---
Heh. "Dude."

There's a number of ways to break them down, but the original understanding (from the book that gave them the name "Gen X" was that they were the children of the Baby Boomers. So that pushes the date backwards.

I've also seen the 1965-80 figure used, but that makes a generation of only 15 years, when most are given as 20.

Either way, there's kind of a gray area and one of the defining elements is computers and the internet. Also social media.

I tend to think of Millennials as late 80s reaching adulthood at "the millennium." (Hence the name).

Kind of like the way "beta male" went from being a quasi-sociological designation for about 80 percent of the male population - i.e., virtually everyone not a politician, rock star, or serial killer - to an insult meaning "unmanly."

nah, part of that story was true. College students were going down into the tunnels to play D and D.

The bullshit part was about a student who "got so lost in D and D he went down into the tunnels to kill himself" or to "never be seen again."

what is this Stan Against Evil and why have I never heard of it before? Seems funny.

It's a lame ripoff of Ash vs. The Evil Dead. Which actually is funny, unlike Stan Against Evil (and I happen to like John C. McGinley).

183 you've already had like $14 trillion at our expense, can we stop yet

Sometimes I want to run
mind is chaos
body's numb
I have to close my mouth
in case the truth comes out

Don't speak,
don't feel
don't breathe
and don't be deciding

Just swallow the knifes
infect life with lies that you hide
That's how you survive...
it's not in our collective nature.. like the silent generation, we become overwhelmed by the environments around us and it throws us off track. All the 'successes' I used to know (waxy pancakes) bailed out early as they achieved what they had intended and unlike the boomers or millennials never wanted a public award for it, the sheer recognition of. They achieved their goals and retired.

as for the rest of us...

Hey Mom, Hey Dad

The story went
round the burning wheels of faith
it pays the rent

Hey sister, Hey brother

I had to choose
choose between the win and lose

but what's the use?

Will success fail me?

Will it make me free?

What they tell me I should want?

Is it what I need?

Come March come April

Come May and June

Let the pounding seconds go

There's nothing I can do
....
we've got the curse of pluralityidealistically cynicalcheerfully depressednostalgic for the future
we'd rather be a fishmalk of the old gen than the alleged political intrigue of the new.

the most people can expect out of us in the coming decades is memoirs and essays when boomers die and millennials blast thru their life insurance payouts because they're still in debt, having created a worldwide avocado and toast shortage on payday loans, inevitably crashing the market and forcing society to reinvest in the arts and aesthetic senses again... we'll arise in the death rattle of the postmodernism movement, raising a glass to the new world order gen z created and the path they've allowed us in the public parks after dark.. only lit by the glowing ambers of our clove cigarettes and the soft faint moaning of rough trade and other art house lyrics.

185 Interesting, but I think this covers more than millennials. Most millennials would be in their 30s and grew up without the internet for their formative years. The younger millennials born in the 90s might fit the mold a little better.

Or maybe it all has to do with parenting and not the year in which you were born.

Either way, a board game is a board game. Some of it is a bit on the nose - real estate is getting more expensive and less affordable (starter homes? Lol). Even rentals are getting higher. A lot of the places I've seen are the same amount as a mortgage.

186 The game seems to be implying that all millenials are snowflakes. The reactions to it seem to confirm that view.
