I've found an excellent travel mug that is a great $25 Christmas present for any coffee drinkers in your life.

I like scalding hot coffee. I was a Contigo user for years. I've given all of mine to goodwill. This is the only travel mug I've found that will keep hot coffee drinkably hot all day long.

    19 From the husband-skinning story:

"According to CTV Saskatoon, he had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis - a disease that causes a fast or irregular heartbeat. He died in his sleep in October after complaining of chest pains."

I am not a doctor and don't know anyone with UC, but... is any of that true? Isn't it an autoimmune disease that means you have to be careful what you eat?

One reporter gets to speak at a time. Let them police themselves. If they want to let Sassy Jim run the press pool, they can explain it to their editors.

My personal choice would be for SHS to keep a spray bottle under the podium so she can spray Sassy Jim whenever he tries to speak.

37 Willowed, I'm going to bring it forward just for the heck of it.

Couple of things from the recent election.

    1. In Colorado 95% of the voters voted by mail, only 5% voted in person. (only 121,000)

    2. In Colorado, party affiliation of people who voted breaks down thusly:

    Democrat - 32%
    Republican - 33%
    Unaffiliated - 34%

And most of the statewide races were 7 to 10 percentage point Dem wins.

    ?Younger unaffiliated voters breaking Dem?

This is like punishing the whole platoon for the misdeeds of one recruit.

    --

And it should be made clear at the very start of the next presser that these new rules will apply, because some in this room do not know how to behave like adults. Start with 1) the microphone will be held for them, not given to them. If they persist in behavior that violates new rules, they must stand in the corner.

Posted by: hogmartin at November 17, 2018 09:17 AM (t+qrx)

95 there are many humorous ideas of dealing with Acosta ... but Trump and Sarah should remain the professionals. Since decorum is out the door and some legal loophole (or whatever) got his pass back for now ... they need a new set of strict rules that all must abide by, with immediate dismissal clearly spelled out.

Control of the mic would be one element ... stop televising might be another, though maybe have "our guy" do all the televising so as to avoid all Acosta like antics. Acosta showboats to make political argument, or just to harass and trash Trump. So don't let CNN have those segments of agitprop, and make rules clear so he can be "legally" ejected.

But the concept that the courts have any say in who gets to stay still seems outrageous, and should be defeated in the further show trial deliberations. imo

There's a 20, but that's the whole point. I can drink the first 20 in no time, while it's still hot. It's the last 4 that ends up tepid.

And it goes down hill from there. Not only can they not find work (mostly because they just don't know 'how') they don't have the money to go back where they came from.

There is debate about American productivity destroying American jobs, versus cheap labor in China (and easy labor/pollution law there) being the main culprit.

This article shows it is less productivity than previously claimed. Because when chips get twice as fast, that is in essence counted as selling twice as much (not quite, but there is "hedonic pricing" that pushes the numbers that way).

So a lot of the jobs really are lost to cheap labor and fewer pollution/safety/etc. controls in foreign lands. Our oligarchs of course have an interest in hiding that and claiming the robots are taking over. (which is an element, but not the main story)

Nothing in the constitution or statute governs things like discretionary issuance of access to the press by public agencies. Period. No judicial role.

Have been in the position of providing such access, or not, in high profile situations. A desirable and distinctively American presumption in favor of maximum access has developed over the years, but it has no basis in statute and the courts - as usual - have zero competence or legitimate power to intervene.

Okay, so, there's a long nerve that's part of the autonomic nervous system called the-

    Vagus Nerve.

It exerts sympathetic control over the heart, lungs, and digestive tract.

Long ago and far away, I once read a study that linked (if I'm remembering correctly) heart arrhythmia and acid reflux pain via the vagus nerve.

    So, ulcerative colitis....maybe?

Anyway, I'm not sure of the final upshot of that study and whether or not it was confirmed by other researchers.

289 There were people yesterday saying that the judge's concern was that there were no rules governing conduct at press conferences, so nixing Acosta's pass could look arbitrary. But if Trump issues guidelines, he could banish Acosta the next time he acts up, and there would be no problem with this. I've no idea if it's true, but the whole question of "how to deal with Acosta" may be a non-issue.

I find it funny that Acosta has the dubious honor that where previously people could be trusted to show innate decency and restraint, Acosta's bratty behavior for the first time in history made it necessary to make the rules explicit. This is what shitty human beings have been doing throughout human history.

An unexpected, small but awesome gift for a 15 yr old boy...

The delightful and occasionally wrong Mrs naturalfake and I visited Japan earlier this year and were in the mall adjacent to the Tokyo Sky Tree, when-

I saw an excellent Japanese knife shop, so it had to take a look.

Of course, they had knives, but they also had nail clippers.

Being that Japanese steel and precision and knife edge sharpness is world class, I went ahead and bought a pair of nail clippers. My old clippers were old.

Later, that night I used them and-

    Hoooolllleeeee Cow!

These were the greatest nail clippers ever created. They cut through your nails like they're warm butter.

And are expected to retain their sharpness for about ten years.

I had to go back and get the same clippers for the boys cuz I knew they would love them.

    Why, you may ask.

Because young guys love good tools and instruments. Especially, tools that are sharp and allow them mastery, make the job easier, and relive drudgery.

And nail-cutting is nothing but pure drudgery.

Mrs naturalfake thought I was nuts giving stupid nail-clippers as a travel gift, however-

the boys loved them over all the stuff we brought back.

Not a main gift, but a stocking stuffer.

Not something, a 15 year old boy would ask for but he'll love them after using them.

    Anyway, check it out.

Here are the same clippers I got in Japan on amazon:

My boss at the last company I worked for would buy decaf and dump it into the coffee bin in the break area. He preferred decaf, so if you wanted regular coffee, fuck off, go buy it at Starbucks.

Of course, he never bothered to TELL anyone that he was exclusively buying decaf. So things were always a bit testy there (which was something else that the boss liked, a drama-filled workplace).

I caught him dumping decaf into the bin when I came in early one morning. Fucker just laughed at me when I freaked out. Especially since he claimed he'd been doing that for almost 3 years.

Acosta showboats to make political argument, or just to harass and trash Trump. So don't let CNN have those segments of agitprop, and make rules clear so he can be "legally" ejected.

But the concept that the courts have any say in who gets to stay still seems outrageous, and should be defeated in the further show trial deliberations. imo

Any wireless mic I have ever seen uses a base unit, usually bit larger than a computer router, with one or two of those rubber-ducky antennas on it. The base has a power cord, a switch and an XLR cable to the PA amplifier. All they need to do is station an intern at the location of the base, with instructions to turn off the switch on a signal. Done.

To make it really funny, and at Acosta's expense, have the signal to the intern be SHS holding up a giant fake TV remote, and punching an oversize "mute" button.

I have just seen too many of these books that have kind of gimmick promising protection and peace and doing big things for God which makes money for the marketing people and the author, but I don't know what changes they make in peoples day to day lives They can be good. 497 One of the auto places sells small flash lights that use one AA battery. Sometimes they are on sale for 2 for 5 bucks. Metal ones. Either Auto Zone or the other one. I gave several last Christmas, and they are easy to use.

Harbor Freight has a veritable plethora of made-in-China LED flashlights, some of them very good, indeed.

500 My nephew is working in the oil fields of North Dakota. In the winter the workers don't get paid when weather forces work shut-downs, so a lot of the guys spend the summers working the fields of Texas. But if these were government jobs, they'd probably get paid year round whether they were working or not. That's swell for them, I guess, but not taxpayers.

Here in Alberta, and neighboring Saskatchewan, Winter is prime drilling season. The ground is frozen, and can better support the weight of a rig and big trucks, which is especially important when drilling in muskeg terrain. But even out on nice tame farmland, winter is best. No mud! Repeat that: no mud! And the farmer isn't inconvenienced as much, either. Also, no bugs.

501 There's a whole code for orca bite, of which one has ever been documented in recorded history.

But then, there's a code for "spacecraft collision injuring occupant (subeequent encounter)" so sure, why not.
