That was the Romney 2012 campaign. He ran just slightly to Barky's right; right enough that suckers still voted for him, not right enough that he had to promise much to the suckers. Besides TEAM RED WIN WOOO.

Sorry, not buying that one. I'm more inclined to believe the GOPe Circular Firing Squad argument. McSally "won" on election day but is getting crushed in the early voting. She was trailing in the polls up until about 2-weeks prior to the election, so it's not surprising that the early vote would go to her.

The GOPe sees their base as the same way the progressives do: racist, uncouth, potentially violent, prone to religious delusions.

So long as the deplorables followed their 'betters', it was all good, because that way they were under control. The GOPe thus saw their role as being a noble sacrifice for the greater good.

But once they lost control, they decided it was safer for everyone if the GOP base was put down. I call this my "war elephant" theory of Never Trumpism.

When they controlled the elephant, it was good and they enjoyed using it to stop on people they didn't like.

But it's no longer obeying their commands and they're afraid it might step on something they like, or even THEM.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but my understanding is that a higher percentage of black smokers prefer menthols compared to white smokers.

But I imagine that if you look at the total number of packs sold, whites probably buy more of them simply because they're a larger fraction of the population.
