Overheard: Jerry Nadler Promises to Go "All-In" on Russia Investigation; Wants to Investigate FBI, Wants to Impeach Kavanaugh

The Democrats claiming they're not going to impeach Trump or Kavanaugh are lying.

Jerry Nadler loudly broadcasted the Democrats' real agenda to a whole train-full of people.

Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., revealed plans for House Democrats to investigate and impeach Justice Brett Kavanaugh for alleged perjury and investigate and impeach President Donald Trump for alleged treasonous collusion with Russia.

In post-election chats with various callers while riding the Acela train from New York to Washington, Nadler gave advice to a newly elected representative and discussed potential 2020 Democratic presidential nominees with another. He also lamented identity politics and the thriving economy and worried about Democrats losing working-class voters while gaining elite former Republicans and suburban women.

Yeah, NeverTrump is made up of the hardest of hard-core Super-Conservatives. So conservative, in fact, that Nadler now acknowledges they are an (unwelcome) part of the Democrat voting coalition.

Are we going to keep pretending that obvious urban, socially-liberal, economically-moderate establishment types who are always calling the actual conservative base "crazies" and "Hobbits" are the most conservative of all of us?

Or are we going to be grown up and start admitting that our alleged NeverTrump Super-Conservatives are just urban/suburban liberals looking out for the preferences of their fellow urban/suburban liberals?

Nadler was headed to DC for a two-day planning session with his staff and Judiciary Committee staff. "We've got to figure out what we're doing," he explained in a phone call with a friend. Nadler requested that the friend’s name be concealed on the grounds he is a private citizen.

Eh, seems fair, now that I think about it.

In any event, Nadler can no longer deny this conversation took place and is accurately reported.

The two discussed two routes for investigating new Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh. The first is to go after the FBI for how they handled the investigation into unsubstantiated claims he sexually assaulted women. "They didn't even do a half-ass job," he said. "They didn't interview 30 witnesses who said 'Interview me! I've got a lot to say!'" he said, while mimicking people waving their hands to be called on.

His other plan is to go after Kavanaugh because "there's a real indication that Kavanaugh committed perjury." He claimed that The Atlantic published an article about the allegations of a third woman. Then he claimed that when Kavanaugh was "asked at a committee hearing under oath when he first heard of the subject, he said, 'When I'd heard of the Atlantic article.' But there is an email chain apparently dating from well before that from him about "How can we deal with this?'" Nadler told the caller.

In other words, Nadler finds out his claim of perjury is false, because there is proof that Kavanaugh didn't lie, but instead of saying "Oh forget that, then" he says something more like "Well how can we lie to get around the proof that he was telling the truth?"

...

When the caller objected to the plan, Nadler pushed back, "That's not technical, that's real." He conceded that maybe it was not a great plan, since even if Kavanaugh could be removed, it might not result in the political results desired.

...

Nadler said Russia investigations would be under a broad umbrella of holding Trump "accountable," since it's a more palatable argument than impeachment, that they would be going "all-in," and much of what they get to would be "depending on what [special counsel Robert] Mueller finds."

Read the whole thing.

These people who blab loudly on tightly-packed trains and then have to beg reporters to not reveal the name of the party they were scheming with are now in control of national security, on the House side.

PS: No media will cover this, including the news division at Fox, which is run by NeverTrumpers and who routinely block stories that could hurt their NeverTrump and Democrat pals.

Even though Mollie Hemingway is one of Fox's employees and journalists.

And even though, by asking Mollie to withhold the name of the party on the phone, Jerrold Nadler implicitly concedes he said all the things that Mollie says she overheard.

You may see Mollie talk about this on the non-news side, like on Tucker, but the news side will completely embargo this.

It's what they do.

You will also notice a strong lack of interest from the NeverTrumpers who either openly or impliedly agitated for a Democrat takeover. They don't like admitting that their little palace intrigues have actual negative consequences for the "conservative agenda" they allegedly support. They don't want to admit they just helped the Kavanaugh impeachment along.

They kind of knew they were doing exactly that -- but they don't want to admit they knew they were doing that.

They want to continue posturing as Super Hard-Core Conservative A-Number One.

9 Grassley's 400+ page final report pretty much demolished all the claims
against Kavanaugh, including Ford's, and has the FBI checking into
Ford's beach friend Monica McLean for witness tampering.

The fact that Avenetti and his skank are being investigated for making false statements should keep away any other false accusers.
And declassifying the FISA warrants and Ohr's reports on Steele will show it was a collusion between the FBI, DOJ and the Brits.
But then, all Nadler wants is show trials and soundbites for 2020 political ads.

59 Mollie is a real turn-on: smart, usually on the right side of things, knows how to talk and write, pretty.

As to the content, raise your hand if you saw this coming. The Dems spent months talking about how they would impeach the moment they got the house, and then walked it back for a few weeks. This is a shocking development if you're seven.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 07, 2018 04:51 PM (I2dne)

60 This is getting good. Mark Warner (Dem chair of the SIC) is tweeting like a run away freight train about how a new AG can't interfere with the Mueller investigation. He has a lot to lose by having full disclosure (as to many on the SIC including Burr and Rubio...maybe even Cotton).

There's panic here, folks. The dems lose their biggest control on Trump if the Mueller scam is ended. At the same time some very interesting and damaging things come to light.

But, the biggest item I don't think anyone is focusing on is that a new AG (if a good one) has a whole month to act on all the specific requests of the House committees that have been blocked by Rosenstein. Keep an eye on Brennan's twitter...he's going to threaten Rosenstein in to not resigning....Bank on it.

I've listened to Federalist podcasts that she hosted. Man, she knows the whole Russia nothingburger/Hillary-connected malfeasance inside out. She really brought me up to date after my glorious time as an LIV. Details are complicated but it's clear Trump didn't do anything.

And she started out pretty neutral about the issue and open to what may transpire.

I love how the Dems aren't really concerned about the booming economy and people's well being. After all, "Orange man bad" is the #1 priority.

153 This is going to be a painful two years with these clowns running the House. But if they continue down this path that we are hearing about, the pain will be worth it. We have the Senate - and as long as they hold strong we can stem the bleeding.Play chess here. Think 2020. If the House is going to go all in on impeachment of Trump Kavanaugh - let them. Can't convict them or remove them from office without the Senate. This SHOULD backfire on the Dems. Those who have more than 3 cells (Joy Behar -that isn't you) will see the lack of cooperation and increased partisanship by the Dems. If they continue on this path, the House AND Senate will be ours in 2020 with Capt. Donald Trump at the helm.

Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at November 07, 2018 05:00 PM (jxbfJ)

154 I added this, which is all true:

PS: No media will cover this, including the news division at Fox, which is run by NeverTrumpers and who routinely block stories that could hurt their NeverTrump and Democrat pals.

Even though Mollie Hemingway is one of Fox's employees and journalists.

There's an ad on TV for a financial management firm - can't remember which one ... it was such an effective ad! - where the broker is being all concerned about his client's retirement money, thinking about it, formulating strategies ,,, but he's in a coffee shop with a laptop opened up and his client's info right there in public! I couldn't believe anyone could come up with such an insane commercial and that the company actually approved it and is paying to run it over and over and over. What a joke.

174 He claimed that The Atlantic published an article about the allegations of a third woman. Then he claimed that when Kavanaugh was "asked at a committee hearing under oath when he first heard of the subject, he said, 'When I'd heard of the Atlantic article.' But there is an email chain apparently dating from well before that from him about "How can we deal with this?'" Nadler told the caller.
_________________

Even if true, it doesn't prove perjury. We don't know when Kavanaugh heard about the Atlantic article. Maybe the Atlantic writer called Kavanaugh and tried to get a confirmation or denial from him before the article was published. That's pretty standard procedure if you're going to publish somebody's unsubstantiated accusation against a public figure. Or possibly somebody else who knew the article was going to be published warned Kavanaugh about it. Unless the committee asked follow-up questions and pinned Kavanaugh down to a date, there's no way any prosecutor could prove perjury from this.

How long does it take to count votes? It's not higher order math or anything.

Posted by: IC at November 07, 2018 05:02 PM (a0IVu)

Here is the results page that updates every 10 minutes:
https://mielections.us/election/results/2018GEN_CENR.html#05000000
With 82/83 counties reporting, the totals are James: 1,737,880 to Stebenow: 1,743,506.

The SoS is not reporting the same numbers I am seeing in the press and I don't know where the press is getting their numbers. For all I know, they are holding totals from a county back until they count the military and other absentee votes so they know how much they have to cheat. But for right now, vote totals are only .16% apart.

Losing is not fun. But the key is to look at the nature of the loss, what caused it, learning from mistakes and moving on.

And in the grand scheme of things, it could've been a hell of a lot worse. The Senate though was a huge huge win.

showed that the voters can be dumb-shits over and over again.

Posted by: washrivergal at November 07, 2018 05:26 PM (dI3/S)
It did show that, but that isn't the entire story. We still have the FSA in love with what they think is free. We have weeded out some GOP trash. The 40 (+/-) retirements took care of the rest. The GOP as a whole did not do what they could have done over the past two years - and they deserved to be punished. FFS we had the House, Senate and WH. No excuses.

402 Wisconsin results sucks, but I wouldn't be too despondent.

Wisconsin was a state I almost considered to be as liberal as Sweden not too long ago. And Walker came up a point short in the new Wisconsin that elected Donald Trump.

People get sick of a political party and it's not always because of ideology.

404 Heh - looks like Nelson's bloviating was just for show. The FL senate race is going to a recount regardless so long as the difference between Scott and Nelson (currently 30,177 votes, 0.28% of the total) is less than 0.5% of the total.

A manual recount is automatic if that count shows the difference to be less than 0.25% of the total, and it could very well get there.

Barring any legal challenges that would of course drag it out, we won't have a "final" word on Scott's victory until Thanksgiving.

Well not "gone" gone... the penalty was merely (and likely temporarily) zeroed out. The mandate is still there and anybody without insurance is still breaking the law. The effect for right now is the same BUT this is a ticking time bomb as any future budget can reset that penalty to any punitive level congress wants.

I am hoping that HHS is working to repeal most to all of the requirements for insurance in administrative code. That would allow people to buy cat care policies again.

567 They're going to over play their hand. Just like I said. Losing the house is not going to be such a bad thing as some think. In their own words, they are going to go "all in" on all the stuff that people are sick of. The House dems are going to make the same mistake the Senate Dems did with Kavanaugh, only in slow motion for 2 years.

It will be an Fing circus. And in the long run, it will hurt them.

The slim majority they have will be very hard to defend in 2020, the map and the gerrymandering will not be so favorable to them then. Their antics will be ripe fodder for Trump to hold up and show to voters as insanity for two years leading up to then.

Meanwhile most of the RINOs are gone, leaving Trump Repubs to rally behid the president. Yes it will be painful for a while, but I think in the long run it's a big win in 2020.

575 Some thoughts about the GA race: I knew it was going to be really close because there was stacey shit every where. There was so much money put into that campaign. She had soft ball/ celebrity interviews and was finally only challenged by Tapper. Kemp ran a low key campaign, I didn't see his ads anywhere. I began to panic in September and started donating. My husband voted for Kemp, but he remarked, "she ran as a moderate! And if you weren't paying attention, you wouldn't know the crazy shit she has said and done". And of course, a lot of her gaffes and radicalism came out very late in the campaign. I also think that the genteel GOP did not come out for Kemp. Nathan Deal took forever to endorse him. Kemp was the upstart, Cagle was supposed to get the nomination. I noticed that a lot well- heeled houses with Cagle signs never posted Kemp signs after the primary. There were a lot of Kemp signs around before the primary, but very few after. I think people were afraid of crazy lefties coming after their property, too. Anyways, I don't think it's a total disaster in GA, but we need to tighten voting and stop making things attractive for colleges and hollywood. Agriculture, manufacturing, small business and the port should be the focus of the economy.

629 What's the average teacher's tenure? Where are they teaching? What's the cost of living? Turnover rates?

Turnover and tenure is irrelevant when discussing pay. That's job security, different matter entirely. Cost of living has some significance but even in Chicago 80k is pretty damn good pay.

632 Since there is a new thread, and I'm all dark and twisty, people are forgetting something about 2020.

All millenials will be able to vote in 2020. With the tech companies busy social engineering, it could be a total sea change.

Dark and twisty, am I.

I believe a precedent for walking away from any contempt of Congress charges was established by a chinless fook during the Obama Administration.

Trump Administration may profit from this example.

Oh, nay nay.

The new crop of kids that age cohort are going to turn out massively conservative. Maybe more Milo than Buckley, but still, Progressivism as constituted today is going to face a large generational shift because they pushed too hard, too fast in the era of Obama. They look at the NPCs and snowflakes of the '00s and '10s the way the '80s yuppies looked at the flower children and stoner dropouts of the '60s and '70s.

Just a hunch.

I mean tenure in the sense of their average length of time working as a teacher. Both are absolutely relevant when discussing pay. If the average teacher makes $80k, but has been there for fifteen years, that's different than if the average teacher has only been teaching for five. And high turnover may force districts to raise pay to keep teachers from leaving due to the availability of other opportunities or working conditions (such as an inner city school).

638 572 There are lots of Dem bywords for stupidity. Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Stupid Bitch with 4,000 Tiny Cowgirl Hats. They get reelected every time, and they don't seem to sabotage the party. Waters has been front and center for 2 years, and there's no one stupider and meaner than she is.

The good thing about those people is that they're ancient and will die soon so we enjoy their funerals.

639 Darn it, I cannot find the audio anywhere. But there was audio on Hannity today of Maxine Waters crowing she will be the first black lady to head the finance committee. Because identity politics yay!

And yes that there will be payback. Lots of payback. Get ready for it. Winter is Coming.

(This overreach will benefit Trump. They think they are more menacing than they are.)

The voters passed the Voter ID Amendment. Thom Tillis thought it
would be a good idea several years ago to allow illegals to be licensed
to drive because there would be no way to get insurance if said illegal
didn't have a driver's license."

Some years back I served on jury duty in a case where some Central American illegals driving a van with no license plates rear-ended a woman's car, then fled the scene, and her insurance company wouldn't pay up.

That was in downtown Charlotte.

That should saw that fat bastard's legs off at the knees.

644 National Review was against gay marriage and was regularly covering the subject, while Weekly Standard was mocking them for it.
They were also covering immigration and opposing amnesty, asking people to make calls on The Corner. This was some time after John Derbyshire said they were embarrassed by his asking questions of a presidential candidate about immigration. Now they are still running Mark Kirkorian. I think NeverTrumper David French is also solid on the issue.I remember a Corner post where they were complaining how Bush Admin refused to use top drone technology to stop drugs from coming in because they realized it would also stop illegals from coming in.
