Why do you think the GOP was trying to take a dive? Yeah, they were pussies and trying to play prevent defense. But why would they want to lose? Posted by: JoeF. at November 06, 2018 05:25 PM (NFEMn) ------- Should been more specific: The GOPe wanted to lose. That's why so many of them jumped ship and left their seats open. The GOPe media scammers certainly wanted to take a dive. And I have little doubt that many GOPe in safe districts would have liked to hand back control of the House to the Dems and go back to the fun life. Trump is dragging their sorry asses over the line... Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at November 06, 2018 05:29 PM (AzW6q) Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at November 06, 2018 05:30 PM (AzW6q) 11

Willowed from the last thread, concerning the media:
They know they are biased, they just don't admit it. Big difference. Posted by: ... at November 06, 2018 05:15 PM (uEbPt) My take on it is, they honestly don't believe there are two sides to be had here. "Bias" implies there are two or more viewpoints, each with some validity. The MSM (and others) deny that support for Trump has any validity to it at all. To them, saying "I voted for Trump" is like saying "I have inside knowledge that we're actually living on Jupiter right now, instead of Earth." It's so ridiculous it's not even worth engaging with. No one who supports democratic values could want Trump as president, therefore there's no need to worry about treating those people's views fairly. It's the same thing in academia, believe me. _______________ Not surprising. They violated immigration our laws and got rewarded for it, so why shouldn't they violate our voting laws as well? North Carolina did an audit of its voter rolls a few years back, and found over a hundred DACA recipients had illegally registered to vote there. Well, now that Decision Desk is a thing of the past I guess it's safe to shit talk about it. I did exit polling for DD in New Hampshire in '16.
It was mostly a shitshow. Not well organized at all. As far as I could tell the $3K or so donated by the Horde was not spent. I think all the flights and hotel rooms were comped by someone in the industry and after that there was pizza. OK, $50 for pizza. We were given Kindle Fires to take results and they froze, which was probably better because then we resorted to paper which actually worked. Now, we got responses from voters in the bitter cold all day and then went to the announcements at the polling places. The exit polling was embargoed until the polls closed and the official polling station results were out about 45 minutes later, so I don't think the standing around in the cold part was useful. Some upsides: got to meet a couple of Hordelings. Loved phoning in the results: "Female, 25-40, Bernie"; "Male, 18-25, Bernie"; "Female, 55-70, Bernie". I wished Hillary had been listening in. Yep, I've heard that/ read that from a few people. I still want one. I'm a softie when it comes to critters I think.
we had beagles when I was a kid, very bizarre dogs. One of them ate through our wooden fence. A buddy of mine found one recently with it's leash all wrapped around a rose bush. He brought it over and asked we'd keep it because they had a dog and two cats. I was taken back to my childhood with the insane braying those dogs do. Wild as a feral hog. I figured somebody tied the damn dog to that rose bush. They will eat everything you put in front of them. They will defy you at every turn. They demand high energy playing. I was in the overflow section and I'm guessing there were ~3,000 there, with another 7,500 in the main section in the airport hangar. Trump came to talk to our group right after getting off the plane, and I was within maybe 20 yards of him. Very cool. Only bad part was that they hadn't worked out parking arrangements until the day before, and getting to and from the event was a nightmare--some were waiting up to two hours after it ended. Just got back from voting at my polling place in Los Angeles County. I don't generally vote in the afternoon (since I'm usually working...), but the number of voters present didn't seem unusual.
One sign of the arrogance of the Dems here in California - each candidate is given the opportunity to submit a statement for the voter information packet that the State of California distributes to each voter. Gavin Newsome, running for the most important office in the state, didn't bother to submit a statement. I *really* hope that smug jerk loses. I know it's pretty much a pipe dream. But I *really* hope he faceplants hard. Posted by: junior at November 06, 2018 05:57 PM (LaTaD) 314

over at Breitbart
Early Voting Tallies: 38 Million Total, GOP Lead Democrats by 1% Nationwide Early Republican voters are wiping the floor with Democrats in a number of states that will be key in Tuesday's midterm election. Democrats are over-performing in one vital state, and other important states are tighter than tight. As a general rule, Democrats beat the GOP in early voting and Republicans usually turn out in larger numbers for same-day voting. That makes the following numbers counter-intuitive, but this does not necessarily mean, as I will explain below, that there is a red wave crushing a blue wave. Just some notes for anyone watching the IN Senate race:
- The NW corner of the state is in the central time zone, so their votes won't come in until later. And that's Gary/East Chicago, so it's deep blue. Expect about 55-70k net votes for Donnely from Lake County alone, so Braun really needs to run up the tally early on. - A good bellwether to watch is Howard County (a long, thin county in the middle on the E/W axis, and slightly North). It voted almost exactly like the state as a whole in 2012, and was slightly more R than the state as a whole in 2016. So if Braun is up by ~6% here, he should be good. Floyd County (small county on the southern border) is also a good bellwether. - Hamilton county (just N of Indianapolis) is one of the big R sinks. And since it's the wealthy white area, it should be a decent bellwether of whether or not the "establishment" R is voting in force or if they are virtue signalling. Braun probably needs at least 25k net votes here, preferably more. Posted by: Skeptical at November 06, 2018 06:08 PM (OpTat) 390

Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor) was good. I went to a couple of Dr. Who events he was at in Chicago. He goosed Elizabeth Sladen on stage at one of them. Patrick Troughton was good too. It really started to go bad when John Nathan Turner took over John Nathan-Turner should have left when Peter Davison did. A new producer could have taken the show in a new direction and breathed new life into it, as had happened numerous times before. As it was, he stayed there for ten years, until the bitter end, and that's largely due to himself and his own style as a producer. Posted by: Mr. Peebles at November 06, 2018 06:21 PM (oVJmc) 521

Well I am interested in Florida results because I live there and I don't want to elect a socialist for governor. Not to mention the next governor here gets to pick I think two or three state Supreme Court justices (due to mandatory retirement). That's a big deal, because even though Florida has elected GOP governors for two decades now, the state Supreme Court still tilts left. If DeSantis wins he can fix that literally on Day One.
Also, if Gillum wins, I'll have to spend the next year or so (until he's indicted) listening to the lib fangirls (of both sexes) I work with going on and on about him like he's the second coming of the Beatles. I am not joking. They look at him the way they used to look at Obama in 2008. You guys will have to put up with it, too -- if he wins, he'll immediately be one of the frontrunners for the 2020 Democratic ticket, so the libs on TV will be talking him up nonstop (until he's indicted). I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. I didn't mean to do that to my mom but I'm literally in shock from the results tonight. I feel like I'm going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is he losing? This can't be happening. I'm having a fucking breakdown. I don't want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want a blue wave to fix this broken country. I cannot fucking deal with this right now. It wasn't supposed to be like this, what about the polls???? This is so fucked. ... Travel for work has so many rewards, its hard to pick a favorite. Airport Security is always a joy, and rubbing elbows with always alert passengers is a real treat . Altered sleeping patterns at various hotels really keeps one young at heart as well. But I think, if I really have to narrow it down - the disruption to the digestive system is really the tops. Makes it all worthwhile. Posted by: The Midnight Rider at November 06, 2018 06:26 PM (0GJk6) I love work travel! Love the free food, plane rides (seriously), love, love, love hotels. So, my voting experience at Blackhorse, Lexington Ky voting station:
1) Hot brunette in scrubs. (Shapely behind) 2) Everyone said that the turnout was insane. One lady said she checked in the morning, and the line to the polling place was out the door, so she decided to come back in the afternoon. 3) The Poll workers were saying they had never seen a turnout like this. They were trying to figure out how to do their paperwork at the end of the night. "You have to count every name who voted." "Should I do it now?" "No, we still have when people get off work, that would be a waste." 4) The new machines in Kentucky are annoying. A weird dial thing. We did have to show voter ID. Kentucky is odd, lot of dems for local races running unopposed. Given the way the system is, I would have written in something funny for each one, but the dial did not lend itself to doing that. If Stacey Abrams is elected goobenor, my husband's loathsome, insufferable family will be even worse than usual. I can picture them actually gloating at Trump-loving aunt's memorial on Friday.
How I wish if that's the case, she'll rise up and smite them all. Posted by: Jane D'oh at November 06, 2018 06:39 PM (ptqGC) 704
Well ... I can't join in on the drinking. I didn't vote - and more importantly, I think I'm dying of dysentery.
But - good luck. Posted by: The Midnight Rider at November 06, 2018 06:39 PM (0GJk6) 705
I would have written in something funny for each one, but the dial did not lend itself to doing that.

Beagles are great dogs what they lack in brains they make up for with loyalty. They do like to smear themselves with whatever stinky stuff they can find.

If a troll wants to be obtuse and ridiculous, why can't it ever be over something fun, like Flat-Earth or Hollow-Earth or Aliens Built The Pyramids.
No, it's always just the same old dull, boring, hurr durr i'm vomiting up vague assertions with no references and making completely unjustified extrapolations from it. Weak sauce, man. If you want to watch the latest season of Doctor Who, skip episodes 3 and probably 6 (next week).
Those are the Very Special Episodes where they deal with An Important Message. The others haven't been brilliant, though last week's story with the spiders ran nicely counter to Doctor Who convention. Jodie Whittaker is fine as the Doctor, and visually the show is better than ever, but the scripts this year are warmed-over tapioca. Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 06, 2018 06:43 PM (2yngH) 722
2016 I was up in Erie for a visit and couldn't get over the Trump/Pence signs, Erie city and Erie county being where Democratic cheating and nepotism were invented. Sacked out early, turned on the tube about 2330, and lo and behold, things got interesting, like a Schwinn or a Marlin 22 under the Christmas tree.

Whatever happened to that "Meathead" guy who called the elections? Is he still in business?
Posted by: Pete Seria at November 06, 2018 05:32 Do you mean the Decision Desk? It's still around. I'm puzzled as they say no House races called, yet KY-6 is colored as called for the D. I hope that's just a mistake in the software, the D is now leading but there's very little vote in. We are grazing our way thru the election as is our tradition...cheese & crackers, BBQ meatballs, boneless wings, little egg rolls, etc. Yum! I absolutely hate John Nathan Turner. He sucked all the fun out of the last few Tom Baker seasons. Basically the BBC brought on some gloomy progressive homo to shit all over the series.
Jon Pertwee was awesome. As has been remarked by others, the most Bond-like of any Dr. Who. I'm also partial to Bill Hartnell, the original. Arrogant, condescending antisocial bastard. Truth be told, I don't consider any beyond the first four as "true" doctors. That's my purist stance. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at November 06, 2018 06:52 PM (/qEW2) 738
