The Morning Report - 11/6/18

liflib.jpg

Good morning kids. Well the day where we've either dreaded or anticipated is here: the 2018 Midterm Elections. From my perspective, on the granular level, things like polling are meaningless especially the polls from a while back which, aside from fodder for the 24-hour news cycle are there for one purpose, and that is to shape and mold public opinion and not to reflect it. Along with the roaring economy which the media either downplayed, covered up or credited Barack Obama (the president whose sole mission was to simultaneously destroy the free market and manage its decline), we had the ongoing Mueller witch hunt, the Kavanaugh persecutions, sometimes violent confrontations with citizens and GOP leaders alike and the killer-diller, the pre-manufactured migrant invasion caravan that underscores and drives home the reason why Trump was elected in the first place. All of these things no doubt have sealed the deal for many people insofar as not to influence their taking a side but to motivate them to get off their collective keisters and get to the polls.

The Senate looks to be a GOP lock and the only question here is will the shameless political hackery of Democrat Senators in red states which came to the fore during the Kavanaugh hearings as well as the revelations (really confirmations) of their duplicitousness with the O'Keefe/Veritas exposes seal their fate, and is there even a shot at kicking Menendez, Whitehouse and Brown to curb as well? It's hard to tell if Rick Scott and Martha McSally will prevail since the polls are now all over the place. We will definitely need at least a couple of extra "buffers" in order to quash what I predict will be a giant headache in the form of Collins, Murkowski and Mitt Romney.

The big question remains the fate of the GOP majority in the House. Conventional wisdom states, a) the party in power always loses significant numbers of seats during midterm elections and perhaps the control of one or more houses of Congress, while b) incumbency is difficult for challengers to overcome although c) that doesn't necessarily jibe with anti-incumbency sentiments ("splunge" for me too, please). On the downside, about 40 or so GOP incumbents are retiring because their committee chairmanships are term-limited and they do not want to be mere backbenchers. We also had a ridiculous gerrymandering of many districts in Pennsylvania that prior to last summer were fairly solid GOP and now are purple-ish at best. On the plus side, a good number of the retiring incumbents were Trump backers and their replacements are the same and most of all Trump himself. I think along with the economy, the renewed sense of American purpose (for the unbrainwashed "deplorable" anyway), saner foreign policy and the crisis at our border, there are a lot of people who are engaged like never before. We shall see starting at around 9:30 or so tonight.

The other marquee races include the governorships of both Florida and Georgia. I cannot imagine either of those utter walking disasters getting elected and at least in Georgia, I think Stacy Abrams will tank (get it?). Despite the polling data, I think Florida will dodge one big ass bullet with Gillum. One thing is for sure, the two of these tits are absolute indicators of what the Democrat Party in America is: openly radical and anti-American to the extreme. This is why it is crucial to maintain control of Congress and win as many of these elections as we possibly can on every level. It would be a repudiation of the direction the Democrats want to drive the nation, and of course, it would force them to double and triple down on it and hopefully seal their fate for at least a generation.

Now, on to the headlines in particular, first there is definite evidence coming to light that this Ilhan Omar dame in Minnesota lied about being married to her brother, and committed both immigration and tax fraud. Considering who she and her constituents are, I don't see that as an obstacle to her electoral chances, although a one way ticket for her and her brood back to Mogadishu on Aerolineas Pinochet would be appropriate. And a reporter who thought she hung up the phone on John James' voicemail reveals how she truly feels about him. Whoopsie.

The President capped off his campaign road trip with stops in Indiana stumping for Mike Braun and ripping into Joe Donnelly, and ultimately wound up in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with guests Sean Hannity and the town's favorite son Rush Limbaugh. Both drew thousands upon thousands both inside the venues and watching outside as well, which is the same scenario played out since the beginning of the summer when the President hit the campaign trail. Pundits will say this is meaningless as it does not translate into votes. Then again, 2016. And from what I have heard the crowds showing up are even greater than those from two years ago and this is a midterm election. The President also took time out to talk with Mark Levin on his show and was optimistic about the GOP's prospects going into today.

All that said, once again Nate "Splunge for me too" Silver says 88% lock the Dems retake the House, but the New York Times has pulled its electoral peter-meter so as not to give the Lefties palpitations, a telling IBD/TIPP poll shows Americans think they are indeed better off now than they were two years ago, another poll shows that the GOP base is fired up because PDT nationalized the immigration issue, which the media was desperate to hide until the "caravan" blew that plot to hell, Rick Scott is optimistic of beating fossilized Bill Nelson, Scott Wallace is scaring voters with weird campaign flyers, Lindsey Graham is energized about a renewed party unity (hopefully in the direction where we want it to go), DC wants to lower the voting age to 16, which tells you the kind of voters they need (young and brainwashed), a look at some key races and time to seal the closing argument.

In First Amendment and fake news fakery, the President's brutal ad featuring illegal alien subhuman Luis Bracamontes, seen up top with his guardian angel, has been pulled from the major networks, Fox included, because of its alleged insensitivity and racism. No, it was pulled because it's one of the most effective political ads ever made (right up there with LBJ's nuking the little girl with the flower and Willie Horton). And ironically, pulling the ad has brought a ton of attention to it. And in the Day-Ending-in-"Y" Department, the NY Times likens Trump to Hitler. They're now down to a handful of feathers and a loose cloaca over at the gray lady-boy.

Elsewhere, on the international scene the President's increased Iran sanctions kick in but the Free Beacon is reporting loopholes vis a vis their nuke weapons research. Hmm. And PDT is scheduled to collude with Putin at the G-20 summit later this month. Domestically, the President says there will be changes in the cabinet no matter how the elections shake out, two insane cases involving amnesty and climate fraud are on the way up towards SCOTUS, a couple of links about blue shit-hole pension and other economic troubles, the Kavanaugh files from the Senate Judiciary Committee confirm the utter lie the whole thing was and after 9 years of Common Core, all you have to show for it is another generation of brainwashed and uneducated children. That is the real battlefront for the heart and soul and future of this nation. And we have hardly scratched the surface.

From hither and yon, Christian Toto on the typical Hollywood appeal to voters, racism on the rise in America (mostly from the Left) and Dennis Prager on an often discussed topic here, the nature of American Jews and why they're insane Leftists.

Now go vote like your life depended on it. And if you already did, offer to take elderly neighbors and others for some donuts and coffee AFTER you take them to the polls. Keep the faith. Victory.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

Obama was the first of this group--a man who thought himself ready to be president with all of two years of senate experience under his belt. Gillum in Fl and Abrams in GA are incredibly inexperienced and their policy positions would kill their states. Essentially, they would follow CA and NY into insolvency. But hey, diversity!

Zod says Sabato's 2016 presidential prediction remains laughable.

Posted by: Zod at November 06, 2018 07:38 AM (Bdeb0)

146 Historically the President's party loses house seats in the first midterm. For example, Obama had loses in 2010 only outdone by Harding (1922) and Roosevelt (193.

This will be even a stranger mid-term because it is coming after a realignment election. Trump is trying to make the GOP more blue collar and working class. That will of course come with consequences. Some of the places that Romney won in 2012 might not be receptive to this new GOP at first. However, in presidential elections the blue collar approach will put many more places into play for a Trump style GOP.

The gamble is some of those Romney areas will come back to the new GOP once they see they have no other option. The Democrat party is anti-business to the core, and frankly insane. However, it is clear some of these people are stubborn. They still think there is no danger in letting some Democrat win.

That is the problem as I see it after looking at all the toss up house races at RCP. I ignored the polls and just looked at places that Romney carried in 2012 and compared them to 2016 to see if Clinton won those areas, or did win Trump and did worse in those areas.

Once again, a Trump style GOP is the only chance we have to reverse the trend toward a loss of American sovergnity and freedoms. The old GOP approach of appealing to voters by saying how wonderful big international corporations / banks are and strange military adventures in places like Syria will not get it done.

The polling I've been ranting about in Michigan coming from a place called Mitchell Research has John James trailing Stabanow by only 3 points. This has always been a double digit spread for the pale cow in previous polls.

Digging down in their poll, you find that they're saying Macomb County, the critical swing county that gave Trump the win in 2016, has changed to James. Still, they are saying the solidly red Mid and Western Michigan will go for Stabanow.

156 9 Years Into Common Core, Test Scores Are Down, Indoctrination Up

All bright new official ideas from "educators" are 100% guaranteed to be crap. And it really does go back more than the 60 years the article cites. While Albert Jay Nock would point to an even earlier time, I'll go with c 1930. Did you know that reading scores of new inductees in the Korean War FELL compared to WWII. (They'd risen from the First to the Second World Wars.)

And Lord the crap they had us reading was dull as could be. I already knew how to read before first grade, and the difference between what my grandmother used and what the schools gave us couldn't have been starker. The former taught me words like "Alderney", "Hibernian", "adiposity" and "armadillo." I could even delight in a made-up word like "Heffalump." (The list also shows why I have always been Anglophile in literature.)

In contrast, it was as if anything that might conceivable allow a child to enjoy reading had been rigorously excluded.

Fortunately I had older teachers in 2nd and 3rd grades, or I might have never learnt a damned thing in school.

159 Love your graphic this morning, JJ. It really is an excellent pictorial as to what the choice is. How anybody on G*d's green earth could vote for a Democrat is just mind-boggling to me.

The guy that's running in Gowdy's seat, William Timmons, has been completely MIA around here. He's skipped out on functions other candidates attended and he has not 1 sign up anywhere. I drove around a lot this weekend. I didn't see anything anywhere to even suggest this guy is running. Maybe he thinks he didn't need to bother with advertising, since the seat is likely pretty safe. But it doesn't seem like he's even trying. And while I will vote for the guy for Trump's sake, I haven't liked him since the primaries.

241 There has to be some sort of legal action that can be taken after the election against these pollsters...

For weeks, we've been pounded with negative polls to depress people who are easily depressed (Ace) and to reduce enthusiasm for republicans. The poll in Michigan from Mitchell Research on Sunday had Stabanow winning in the critical county of Macomb - the bell weather county of the state - by 20 points. Today, two days later, it has James winning the county by 3. A total swing of 23 points in 2 days.

Right.

When the polls are reported after the election for accuracy, only the last poll with be used. So, next election, if James wins by 3 Mitchell will be heralded as an extremely accurate pollster.

272 Nate Silver is right in that the assumption should be Democrats win the House; the surprise is if that doesn't happen. This is just based on historical trends: the average loss for the party of the incumbent President in the first-term midterm is 42 seats; the median loss is 33 (adjusted for a 435 seat house). So we're right in the normal historical range, there is nothing much unusual about it.

276 From the "Dems Worry" Spectator piece.

Democrats' further concern must be attrition in their support. It is one thing to answer a poll question; it is another to actually go to the poll. While this would seem to be a worry for both sides, it is a disproportionate one for Democrats.

In the last three midterms -- 2014, 2010, and 2006 -- exit polling showed liberals falling as a percentage of the electorate from the previous presidential election (2012, 2008, and 2004). Of course, liberals are core Democratic supporters.

Over that period, liberals averaged a 1.7-point drop as a percentage of the voting population. Conversely, conservatives, core Republican supporters, increased as a portion of the electorate in two of those three midterms. They have averaged a 2.7 percent increase in the midterm voting population from the previous presidential election.

Did not know. This is uplifting. As the Dems go farther left, the country rejects them more.

397 Nate Silver's claim to fame was his 2008 election call.

Axelrod leaked his internal polling with the vote fraud numbers baked in, and Silver was the only one willing to use those over-the-top numbers for constructing his prediction narrative. That made Silver an outlier.

The prospect of the first AA (African-American or Affirmative-Action--works either way) POTUS was more than enough to encourage egregious shenanigans at the polls that year, and anyone who dared question the statistically impossible anomalies that year (and in 2012) was quickly silenced by charges of racism from people supposedly in opposition to the Indonesian.

Outcomes matched Silver's narrative most closely in both Obama presidential years, so he became the polling darling of the left. He has done for shit in other races, but the leftards want so badly to believe.

Is it possible Fox went along with the ban so they could justify airing it in news packages "about the ban" all day today and tomorrow? Would be a flavor of the PETA Super Bowl ad strategy: Get the ad banned so everyone in the country talks about it and wants to see it.

422 I voted last week.

I have to say this - but only to you guys, cause I have been lurking here for years.( BTW - sorry Dave in Texas I did not get the email for the hook up, my bad should have followed up. )

I really really want to believe in my fellow Americans, but I just feel ... so pessimistic. So while I am hoping big time, I am braced for the worst.

I feel completely horrible that I have this attitude. Dammit we got Trump in!!! We should be able to do this!! What is wrong with all these people?? Why am I so suspicious? Oh, yeah, cause this week here in Texas we found evidence of massive voter fraud, something that here in South Texas we could have told you about years ago. I told my husband 2019 is the year we get our shit together, have a 30 year supply of food, a GOOD generator, and everything else in place. Cause if things go south it will go quickly.

I will be drinking and commenting late tonight. Either way, its going to be okay. There is a Higher Power than us puny humans who is in control. We can't see ahead but He can.

Thanks for letting me vent here. You guys are the best, and I want to BBQ for you all on my back porch.

434 I voted this AM, which given the uber-feckless NY State GOP is as politically effective as shouting at clouds.

Molinari, who was largely invisible, supposedly "tightened" the race to within 15 points of Andrew "Gun Grabbin' Fake-Queens-Talkin' Opportunist" Cuomo. This basically goes to show that a strong Upstate, Hudson-Valley or Western NY candidate who actually campaigned could probably beat the SOB, but they won't commit any $ to win probably one of the most consequential elections that could be won.

Our Westchester area GOP didn't even put up a Congressional or State Assembly Candidate against the two Dem incumbents.

Kirstin Jellybrain's Senate opponent basically put her name down and hasnt run a single ad, appeared on a radio show or stepped outside her apartment for the past 6 months from what I've seen.

I logged onto the League of Women Voter's site last night to see if there were any referenda on the ballot and noticed that Jellybrain's opponent didn't even submit a bio. So you have a long story on there about how Jellybrain is going to ensure that No Children Shoot Each Other With Evil Gunz and No Separating Poor Brown Children From Their Hardworking Migrant Mothers, and zero, nada, nothing, zilch from a "Republican" opponent.

The NY Republicans are too apathetic to even do Failure Theater. They just preemptively surrender, even though about half the State is actually conservative and you have a slate full of stale, vulnerable Democrats.

I owned an environmental consulting firm for many years. I was asked to design a wastewater treatment system for a "doggie treat" manufacturing facility located maybe 50 feet from the Rio Grande border with Mexico.

Long story short, it ended up being a very lucrative job. However, the place stunk of rotten meat and I was always gagging the first few days of any visit there.

I saw horse hanging on hooks as well as other animals, including what I suspect was roadkill.

The moral of this story is NEVER, EVER be tempted to take a bite out of a pet food treat.

If Trump really did upend the entire political spectrum in 2016, tonight is going to be very interesting.

The thought of the tyrants gaining power and us normals having to worry about jail or worse because of our free speech and other God given rights is terrifying.

Someone made a post last night that MAGA is far greater than any one person or one election. That it is a movement that will take some time. That is certainly true, but damn do I fear the direction of this country if the tyrants win anything significant tonight.

Get out and vote, drag other normals out to vote, God Bless America, and MAGA.

Early voting, and particularly mail voting, Is an invitation to fraud and abuse. I have no faith whatsoever that all R ballots in the mail get delivered or counted. I have no faith that people who vote early and then die before election day have their votes voided. Early voting propaganda is based on the flawed notion that higher turnout created better results. ICE has now started releasing the illegal alien "families" -- half of whom (or more) aren't even related to the kids they dragged here, because they have no more space in which to detain them. So off they go into the interior U.S., with only their word that they will show up for their hearing, years in the future. And their word is a joke.

Meanwhile the AP published a story yesterday, which was no doubt intended to provoke sympathy for the poor illegal aliens, about a Honduran paraplegic whose friend is rolling him here in the "caravan" because he wants an operation on his spine. How many American citizens want or need operations that they can't pay for, or that their insurance doesn't cover? Yet here comes this Honduran guy, with zero money, fully expecting American taxpayers to pick up the bill for his surgeries and years of rehab and living expenses and whatever else he'll need once he gets here.

But hey, we Americans owe him and his legions of fellow "gimme-dats" because . . . social justice!

They didn't play the clips of her calling AZ a meth lab, or saying Arizonans are crazy, and they made all sorts of excuses for her (she was just joking, she was quoted out of context, etc.). And McSally hasn't been very effective in exposing Sinema's loony antics or remarks either.

Yes. It used to be that both parties wanted pretty much the same for all citizens: Good jobs for everyone who wanted one, good pay, security on the streets and abroad, and America First. The political fights were mostly over a proper division of the loaves and fishes.

Now, the Dems want few if any of the things above, and figuratively, instead of loaves and fishes, want to provide steak and caviar for their one-percerter supporters, government cheese and bread to the illegals, and a thin gruel to everyone else, D and R alike.

Right. No one who is resident in Puerto Rico (whether a native-born Puerto Rican or not) can vote for President, because Puerto Rico is not a state and has no (real) Senators or Members of Congress, and therefore has no electors in the Electoral College.

If they move to a real state, they can vote for President (technically, vote for electors) like anyone else.

The same holds true for all other non-state territories of the United States.
