Obama lost 63, Clinton lost 53, Trump lost 26. That's pretty damn good. I think his tireless campaigning in the weeks leading up to the election helped to staunch the bleeding. So it could've been worse. A lot worse. Besides, any day that Hillary is not president is a good day."

And Trump continues to be the Master Troller, by endorsing Pelosi for Speaker of the House, and suggesting that the Republicans will provide the votes to make Nancy Speaker, if necessary.

My biggest disappointments from last night, in no particular order:
1) Bill Kristol and his ilk will remain funded and noisy for at least 2 more years 2) Gridlock in congress means Trump will have to work through EO, which - as he showed us with Obama's EOs - is transient and easily reversed. 3) Dems are back on the intelligence committee and have more unfettered access to important information. They will also freeze out one of our more valuable congressmen in Nunes. 4) The blue states passed a *lot* of bad measures that will reduce their quality of life, which will ramp up exit pressures and worsen red state political demographics. 5) Losing governors and state houses makes overcoming incumbency in those states much harder in 2020 due to loss of machinery. The President now only has one method at his disposal, and that is direct engagement. He will have to waste a lot of time countering the Left with direct appeals to the people through his tools (declassification, publication, etc.) because no one else will help is agenda. We'll see what happens! Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 07, 2018 10:59 AM (I2dne) 14

Caravan Update:
Reading article that the number of migrants apply for asylum in Mexico or returning home is up to 3,200. They say that still leaves 4,000 still traveling. As I've said before, if they have to continue their march on foot, this caravan could peter out to less then a 1,000 by the time they get to the border, which also happens to be the number of people caught each and every day by border patrol. Trump's tweets show he's looking forward to a battle with Pelosi
Fuckin aye. Enough of this sneaking around shit. Let's have a straight up fight. Look guys. Trump led the GOP to perform historically well in the midterms. We know what these people are. And I believe Trump has the goods on many of them. Will they show their asses like bonobos for 2 years? Oh yes indeed. But PDT just handed them the rope to hang themselves. So - again - my takeaways from yesterday -
The mass exodus of RINO/GOPe's from the House plus the House's failure to do anything in the GOP time of complete control of all levers of power in DC under President Trump resulted in a "House Cleaning" if you will. Frankly I would rather have actual crazy socialists in control of the House led by TIE Pelosi than the scumbag lying RINO/GOPe'rs who would say they were conservative and fighting for liberty and against the leftists and then capitulate at the first fight and/or cry "bipartisan" when all they woudl do is simply pass socialist agenda legislation and go to cocktail parties. Fuck those guys in particular. Now - the good news: 1) In the Senate - the recent development of a backbone and fighting the good fight ( as well as the few top RINO's like Flake etc. departing - and top koo-koo bird McLame dying off ) was rewarded with a solidification of power for Repubs and Trumpists with a few exceptions ( Romney - I'm looking at you). 2) Also on the good front - "Beta Male" O'Rourke was kicked to the curb despite the ridiculous amount of money and effort expended by the Dims. Also MsAsskill, Heitkamp and a number of other disgusting scumbags were kicked i the @ss. 3) Keeping the governorship of Florida is huge - ! Now - on to the bad: 1) Losing the House, although not unexpected - is certainly not a "good thing" although the use of the likes of Pelousy and Mad Max Waters as a foil will lead to some epic trolling by Trump and expose the failure of the Dims to have anyone sane at the House level and idiots like Occasional-Cortex do NOT help. They will likely pass bills so far left (that will die in the Senate) that it will further open everyone's eyes. 2) the biased, propaganda spread by the MSM still has the power to swing elections and gin up the lefty base - we dismiss it at our peril. We need to continue to open up new news mediums and need to get at least a foothold in more MSM markets ( Perhaps a Trump network?) 3) Candidates and campaigns matter. The GOPe, particularly in NY and in Florida) ran some of the worst, wishy washy old school candidates who ran awful old school campaigns (Trump pulled deSantis over the line, barely). Even in Texas - Cruz allowed Beta Male to run circles around him from a campaign standpoint. Not acceptable. The NY and CA State Republican Parties in particular, need to be rebuilt and Trump should do it - and take an active role. He needs to make sure those states have a new batch of unabashed Trumpist candidates in 2020 with actual ground games and new, tech oriented, online campaigns. Investing in this in a number of states and with an eye towards mounting a GOP challenge EVERYWHERE - including deep blue districts - is the key in 2020. 4) Walker in WI is a huge loss. Not having the governorship for the 2020 battle in WI is a very unfortunate wound that will fester all the way through that election cycle. Other thoughts: Lastly - events matter and the fake bomber and cray cray Pittsburgh shooter could not have happened at a worse time for Team Trump as it allowed he airwaves to be flooded by the MSM with "Trump=hate" a week before ED stymieing the Trumpmentum that had been building at that point - and that made the difference in a number of close races - of which there were many). So - Trump stops the worst effects of the midterm blues and actually solidifies the Senate in Trumpist hands. Next steps: The lame duck Congress needs to pass a budget which funds the border wall. Have it expire in September 2020. Let the House shut down the government a month and a half before ED in 2020 to protect illegal aliens - see how that goes for them. Alas - as Ryan and the GOPe are still A-1 Jackholes that will not happened. But if they were smart they would pass a bunch of "common sense" "keep the promise" legislation packages before they go and tell Pelosi and the socialist to kiss their *sses. Gridlock in congress means Trump will have to work through EO, which - as he showed us with Obama's EOs - is transient and easily reversed.
------------- He can also work to make the left look like obstructionists. This doesn't work well for the left because they don't try to pass "reasonable" legislation. Trump could try to pass "reasonable" legislation - that I would hate, but much of the country may like - and play for 2020. I would not try to go the exact route that Obama did with the EO - though there are plenty of things Trump can do that are well within his Constitutional powers. On the other hand, politically, the State of Oregon continues to be an unmitigated disaster.
The only curb on the progs in Oregon is that you can avoid Oregon government and Oregon income tax by moving yourself and your job across the Columbia River to Washington, where there is no state income tax. (Portland is right on the south side of the Columbia.) Not that Washington is that great politically, but it is a lot better than Oregon (the voters of Washington just turned down a "carbon tax" by a sizable margin). So, Oregon progs have to come up with disguised sales taxes - they'd love to raise the state income tax (which I believe is third highest in the nation), but they realize that a lot of people would move the few miles to Washington if they tried to raise the state income tax further. I live in Oregon and it was a total loss, a massive, painful disaster. So much so I find it hard to believe it was remotely honest. The GOP governor candidate was trashed in the election, when it was a super close race and the sitting Dem governor had massive disapproval. All of the ballot measures designed to protect the state from radical leftist ideas and stop the legislature from more stupid concepts failed, by a large margin. The Dems again to a supermajority in the legislature, so we're going to see even more of a flood of insane crap puked on us by the radical hard left. Its basically going to be years of misery.

Then, with 97% of the vote in, suddenly 25,000 votes are dropped in Evers column! With no precincts reporting it out! With no visible change in percentage! Just BOOM - 25,000 votes for Evers. One upset protesting parent was interviewed, "Yeah, I am for legalized pot, but I don't think it should be so easy for kids to get." Gee, maybe should have considered that before voting 'yes'. Wait until employers see what this does to drug testing entry level employees, such as delivery people! Saw this happen in CO. I don't care, I will say it. It was a good night, not great since Heller and James lost. But I was very happy. Idiots in deep blue circles were predicting a 60 to 100 seat swing. Most of our losses in the House were Never Trumpers who thought their positions would save them from the left - forgetting the MAIN lesson from Kavanaugh - we're all going to get it if the Democrats, as they are, take over. I look at this as a win, and I don't feel any weariness. Onward we fight.

Ah, so they're gonna make damn sure no Republican ever wins any seat ever again, then. Yes. I think a big one would be removing regulations on low flush toilets, light bulbs, and gas cans. So... no actors, then. Ultimately, like I and a lot of others have been saying here: we're not voting our way out of this. Trump was an outlier, not a shift in the voting populace. 2x Obama taught me that lesson hard and well, and its worth remembering. The culture is what gives us the voters, and the culture has been controlled by the radical left for several generations now. The news is dying but still has a lot of pull, and they influence voters (see the cartoon about brainwashing above) along with entertainment and academia. The number of people in America who are constitutionally disposed toward liberty, individual responsibility, small government, and virtue are very very few. We're a pocket community sampled from 310+ million humans. Our voices are few and drowned out by the free stuff army and its promoters. - Hard Left Democrats - Less Left but Very Corrupt Democrats - GOPe - Trump & Company Trump's been fighting a three-on-one battle. That he's managed as much as he has is amazing. But it doesn't change the facts. What happened last night rebalanced power between the four. How exactly, we'll have to see. Posted by: Brother Cavil at November 07, 2018 11:33 AM (AM1GF) 258

Look at the map, especially for house districts, 80-90 percent of any state is red, except for a few isolated blue urban megalopolises. How the hell does that translate into a House Majority for democrats?
Because more than half the people live in those isolated urban magalopolises. Seriously. Oregon is geographically almost entirely red. But there are two blue spots: Portland and Eugene. And they contain more than half of the population of the state, so they control the state. Its true in nearly every state. New York City has a population of about 20 million. New York City metro area (including the New Jersey city areas just across the border) has a population of around 20 million. NYC alone has about 9 million. Illinois has a population of about 13 million. Chicago metro area has a population of 10 million. That's how it goes state to state. The cities are most of the population, and then you have a minority of dems in the rural areas enough to easily win overall. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 07, 2018 11:35 AM (39g3+) 273

Christopher oh i'm sure they all Want freedom
I think at some theoretical level they do, but what they really want is comfort, safety, and ease. They are more than willing to exchange every essential liberty for small doses of safety. This is what happens when you raise generation after generation to view the highest goals in life to be comfort, pleasure, safety, and personal health. If that's what you think life is about, if that is what you believe is your highest end goal and the purpose of existence, then you're going to want whatever provides that. And any politician that says they'll give that to you is going to get the big win 9 times out of 10. Because concepts like justice, liberty, and virtue are hard, uncomfortable, and even alien or distasteful to the post modern hedonist. I see it as better than alcohol as far as acts committed during
People think pot makes you universally mellow and peaceful, maybe hungry. But booze is a sedative too, it makes people mellow and peaceful... except when it doesn't. Different people respond to chemicals differently. Some people get antsy, even violent under weed. Some people are barely affected. Its not a consistent certainty. The biggest flaw with pot is that while booze has a really strong, obvious effect on your faculties pot doesn't feel like its having as much effect unless you get really, REALLY trashed. So people think they are a lot more capable and competent while stoned than they do when drunk, and get into worse problems (driving etc). Last night I was ruminating: the Progressives have become like psycho wives, using emotional blackmail.
They can say anything about us--anything they want to. But have a difference of opinion on the frequency of Trump's "lies" and by arguing you are "creating division". They so want to re-unite the country and stop the rancor, but every time they try to talk to us, we're "distant". They've decided to use a plea for "unity" as an explanation why in disagreeing with their strongly-held beliefs weren't just creating more dissension. They just want to have a conversation, with all the digs they can throw in, and we get personal. Anyway, that's my analysis. The Dems have become female emotional blackmailers to get their way. A lot of arguments can be made for or against legalized pot, but the biggest argument against is that it attracts more liberals.
What we discovered in Oregon is that there is a **big** difference between having marijuana illegal, but treated as a minor citable offense; and legal marijuana. There has been a significant increase in the number of drivers involved in accidents who have smoked dope prior to the accident, and much of Portland now reeks of marijuana, to a much greater extent than before. Last night was a reminder that (a) there's a whole lot of lemmings out there, for whom repeating past errors does not seem to have penetrated their minds as an indication of insanity (see MN, WI, etc.) (b) The worst of the damage was contained, the Southern Rot (Gillum and the Georgia Cow) lost and, while Trump's gonna get nothing for a border wall at least he's gonna be in good shape for judges and cabinet appointments. (c) Hopefully the GOP takes away one lesson from this: who dares wins. The Administration and McConnell stood firm behind Kavanaugh and the Democrats kicked an own-goal so grievous that they'll probably be regretting it for decades. The House GOP leadership's supine and craven behavior for the last two years gained them nothing. Posted by: JEM at November 07, 2018 11:54 AM (8erNz) 409

The biggest flaw with pot is that while booze has a really strong, obvious effect on your faculties pot doesn't feel like its having as much effect unless you get really, REALLY trashed. So people think they are a lot more capable and competent while stoned than they do when drunk, and get into worse problems (driving etc).
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 07, 2018 11:45 AM (39g3+) I shared this before with the horde - more than a year ago, I found my pothead nephew smoking weed and, out of curiosity, asked if I could have a hit. I was an occasional pot smoker in college, but never really liked it and hadn't smoked any since then. I had 1 puff - just one. Holy Lord, with that one puff I went from sober to extremely high in the course of 10 seconds. It took 2 hours before I felt normal again. I drank gallons of water and just waited for it to wear off. I did not find it enjoyable. However, I was very aware that I could not drive under the influence. I guess that's one thing today's pot has going for it - getting drunk can be a very gradual thing and people think they're OK to drive when they are not, whereas when you get high in a matter of seconds, you know it. Before that little experiment, I leaned toward pot legalization. It made me aware that today's pot is NOTHING like the stuff I smoked in the 70's and early '80's. It's a zillion times more potent and young people like my nephew are scrambling their brains with it. My nephew started smoking pot when he was around 16 and he's been a chronic underachiever ever since. No mystery why. Posted by: Donna&&&&&&V. at November 07, 2018 12:01 PM (d6Ksn) 423
Well...I'm disappointed, but not devastated. For one thing, the Democrat geezers in the house are the gift that keeps on giving. They talk a LOT of shit, and waste a lot of time and money, and that's bad, but I really think Trump thrives on that sort of nonsense. Pelosi, Slapsie Maxine Waters, Schiff - they make his points for him.
For another, people like Nelson in Florida and Adams in Georgia are, as we speak, showing their true colors by simply INSISTING that they haven't lost yet and if they just hold out for a few more days, those votes they need will turn up somewhere. Of course, none of this would have happened if there hadn't been a mass exodus of Republicans who would rather retire than be small fish in a big pond. Thanks a lot, bitchez... I posted on the takeaways regarding the long run in the last thread.
This is my short term takeaway. Like 2012, there were two polling tracks--conservative and liberal. From what I have seen of the actual popular vote for the House, the Dems were right at the overall 7-8 percent margin predicted by the more liberal polls to take over the House than Rasmussen, etc. Trump, for better or worse, nationalized the 2018 election along with the Dems actions in Kavanaugh. The Dem low intensity voters turned out, the Rep hard core turned out, and the independents swung to the Dems in the House. Senate is a bit more complicated. Governorships are always swinging and rarely stay in one party's control for long. Note that even in now blue states, Vermont, Mass, and Maryland, the Dem's disfunction in the past Dem governorships let Republicans keep their seats. It is easier to vote out a non-performing governor than it is to overturn a legislature. Right now the Dem states that are defying the trend are New York, California, Washington, and Oregon, where even stale corrupt governors crappy policies are not punished. My guess is that mail votes in WA and OR and the cost of campaigning in NY and CA make these the exception for now. Thus, the races turned less on the individual candidates than it did on the voter's opinion of Trump and the GOP. Polling is still unreliable at the local and state level to some extent but it appears that pollsters now have at least some work arounds. I suspect that the reason that it did not happen in 2016 at the congressional level is because Dems thought they had it in the bag (even Ryan did apparently). Second, the massive amount of money spent by the Dems will have a carryover effect in 2020. The Dems have developed a much more effective ground game and lists of voters than the Republicans and have gotten out voters in 2012 and 2018 that past history would claim are unreliable. I suspect that in part, the rise of the internet along with early voting have created a structural change benefiting the Dems. Thus, the Republicans have a better handle on early voting but election day voting may have actually been toward the Dems which is historically not the case. All too many of the Republicans candidates and officeholders are relying on the approved vendor list campaign consultants who churn out media ads, robo calls, unsolicited emails, and those darn campaign flyers. The campaign consultants make their money of kickbacks on printing, robocalls, and ads. And as long time AOS posters can attest to, are in fact, are as reliable politically as Flint's water supply because they are mercenaries. Thus, the COC-RNC etc. connection of fundraising attracts, well grifters, to spend that money in COC approved ways and keep some of it themselves. Candidates would be far better to adopt the Luap nor method of soliciting small donors which the infrastructure exists to do so on the cheap. Small donors, especially from the district, are now committed and that also avoids the trap of having to do the COC bidding to keep your campaign funded. Every Rep. in the House and Senate should now have a more or less permanent campaign going. True GOTV is much more intensive but relatively cheap--knocking on doors, soliciting small donations, rebuilding precincts and precinct captains, etc. Campaign consultants get little from it but hassle and margins are small on it which is why the grifting is better on the media side. It also means that Congress critters and others need to do better at getting around the legacy media, shunning it, and depriving it of any resources. That means developing things such as a real newsletter, social media presence, blogs, holding constituent functions anywhere (see Al D'Amato as an example), politely ignoring the COC types--don't want to piss them off but treating them like the Dems treat their rich leftist donors, they are a cash cow, not a source for legislation. Have an effective constituent service program and doing outreach to even politically unfertile ground. Strom Thurmond routinely got about 20-30 percent of the black vote by focus on service to constituents and being around. House and Senate leadership should demand loyalty on messaging and punish those that stray (denying access to campaign funds, seniority, logrolling, etc.) especially for those that try to virtue signal by flattering the Dems and media by attacking other Reps. There is no sound reason to do so politically as the true Dems won't vote for you anyway and the swing voters do not care about your virtue signalling. Keep your trap shut. What policies should be pursued is another kettle of fish and that depends more on Presidential leadership at the national level and addressing problems at the local/state level.
