So...the colors are pleasant but nothing wonderful or fascinating. What caught my eye was how well the artist captured the slopes of this little valley. It reminded me of a place in which I spent a fair amount of my (relative) youth...

59 Once again, I am hearing the analysis on the radio today about
Republicans doing poorly in the formerly red Atlanta suburbs due to soccer
moms and well educated Republicans being turned off by Trump.
It
is mostly BS, with a grain of truth. Why are the analysts fixated on this? To cover the painful truth: the change in
voting is mainly from massive immigration, legal and illegal, changing
the demographics and voting patterns. It is bvious everywhere I go
including my polling station. Guess what? When Trump is gone, the
suburbs are going to be more blue than ever. Those imaginary soccer
moms and educated Republicans aren't coming back to save the
Republicans.

But yes, Republicans.
continue to keep your mouths shut and accommodate the newcomers to gain their favor. They
are natural conservatives and and will undoubtedly abandon the promise
of free stuff and racial hatred offered by the Dems. Any year now.

I'm in pretty damn good shape, too. But that particular pain is a muthaf_ker.

At that age, bones are as brittle as glass and the recovery time is much longer. That sort of trauma lowers resistance and so it becomes easy for them to get pneumonia.
I never understood it myself until I fell a few years ago - I'm a spring chicken compared to RBG but a fall which would have made me sore for a few days back when I was younger than 29 tore my meninus and required surgery, therapy and crutches - and my knee has never felt the same since. I'm terrified of falling now.

245 63 Serious question: with Dems picking up twenty six seats, and forty RINOs retiring, did we lose the House, or get closer to regaining it?
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice

My take on this from previous thread..

This. This is what we have all been looking for. We keep saying PURGE the RINOS! Again and again we say it. Then when it happens it's all
"oh lort! We lost the House! This is awful!! We're doomed! End of the Republic!!" Hair on fucking fire eleventy!!

Get a fucking grip. Rinos bailed because they just can't even with Trump, gope shoves more rinos in to replace, voters say NOPE! Dem gets the seat. Does this mean "everyone is embracing socialism! End of the republic!" Ummm, no. No it does not. It just means dems vote lock step for the candidate with a D after the name and the normal people say fine, we told you and told you to stop pissing us off and you didn't listen. We'll sit this out until you assholes get on board with OUR agenda.
Now maybe some good guys got caught up in the purge but most of the losses were rinos running to replace other rinos. Big fucking deal. They can make it up next time. The dems don't have a large margin in the House, we gained in the Senate, and big daddy Trump abides at the top.

In spite of the dementia getting far worse (kept removing back brace) she somehow managed to heal - probably because of an active life. She's in assisted care now.

It is also interesting to note that far more justices have died when a member of the opposite party holds the White House. A 2010 study in the journal "Demography" statistically analyzing the retirement and deaths of Supreme Court justices from 1789 to 2006 found that:

Political climate effects on death in office are consistent with the politicized departure hypothesis. When the incumbent president is of a different party than the president who appointed the justice, then the justice's death-in-office odds are about tripled, compared with when the appointing president and the incumbent president are members of the same party.

McCain's people kept him in office to prevent any useful replacement from voting for Republican measures. RGB does that and we just see a bunch of 5-3 decisions instead of 5-4.

316 I reported from my polling place that I'd never seen so many people for ANY election, and had to stand in line for an hour, which I've never had to do.

Also, saw a couple of muzzie wymyn with pinch-faced wymyn I assumed to be their "handlers," and have never, ever seen them at my polling place.

So this morning I learned that my blue county, Chatham, went overwhelmingly for Tank Abrams (shocker---not) by 60,867 to 41,356 for Kemp. A far larger turnout than for either of Emperor Choom's elections.

Anyhow, as I asked last night, I wonder how many voters in the ATL area were intimated by Abram's pals the Black Panthers?

318 I've been skeptical about the theory that the 40 House retirees being the problem this year. With a quick count, I found 8, and 2 of those don't really apply, being McSally and Pierce, who ran for higher offices. And I'm not sure you can count the one in PA, either, the courts having reamed us there.

Anyway, I don't see the problem as being 5 or 6 seats. Well, maybe I missed a few, but that was scanning RCP for D-pickups, and comparing them with Wiki's list of retirees.

Posted by: Eeyore, fomerly George LeS at November 08, 2018 10:14 AM (59GGI)

319 Serious question: with Dems picking up twenty six seats, and forty RINOs retiring, did we lose the House, or get closer to regaining it?

That's my thought too, especially after Max Boot's whinefest yesterday that the House lost the "wrong Republicans". When we flip the House in 2020 it'll be a much, much more conservative House than the current outgoing version.

This is an issue that rears its ugly head a lot.

As a condition of employment, some police are required to carry their weapons while off duty.

That means if they go out for a drink, they may be intoxicated and carrying a loaded weapon.

The alternative is that they not carry and then they are in violation of a directive.

This is a chronically a problem with the NYPD.

We once had a guy at a New York State Park wearing nothing but a speed-o and having a holstered weapon.

He explained that he had to carry the weapon.

Scared the shit out of a lot of people on the beach that day.

509 This is good:

President Donald Trump is expected to sign a directive that will bar migrants who cross the U.S. border illegally from applying for asylum after they are detained by immigration authorities, according to U.S. officials.

The directive under consideration requires asylum seekers to make their claims at a port of entry along the border, according to TheWSJ report. Those who cross illegally and turn themselves into border agents will be deemed ineligible for asylum.

Under current law, a migrant can request asylum if he is in U.S. territory, regardless of how he got there.

I'm glad he's keeping his eye on this and approaching it from several angles, not just beefed up border patrol/military presence on the border.

646 621 other than impeachment is there any way to remove a justice

I think the Chief Justice can administratively recuse an associate justice. It's never been done, but as chief justice who assigns cases, he or she may neuter an associate by directing them not to participate. The Chief Justice is ultimately responsible for the federal judiciary, so it could happen.

I don't know what the Congress would do if it were attempted.

It would be a first impression issue. And who would hear the case if the chief justice's actions were considered unconstitutional?

670 The James Madison, the background story of STD is even worse since the guy who pushed for it, Les Moonves got ousted because of #MeToo and so did six others at CBS.

Kuntzman, Moonves' protege, is still trying to helm STD through the debris field. But he is the guy behind Universal's massive reboot flop The Mummy.

And Viacom, who holds the rights to the original Trek timeline, will probably make a bid to take over CBS and All Access in two years.

So as I postulated last night, in two years if Viacom succeeds we just might see STD retcon'd into having never happened.

As said above, Supreme Court has a well settled rule that if you cannot attend oral arguments, then you cannot vote on the disposition of the case and of course you cannot vote on cert for new cases at the Friday conference if a justice is not present at the conference.

But when you have people in power who refuse to enforce the law like down here in Coward County, then what are you supposed to do? What recourse is there?

It was Justice Stevens that was known as Justice FedEx for years because of his living in Florida and having court materials fedexed to him. CJ Rehnquist really only did that during the last year of his life when he was battling cancer. Don't offhand remember when Marshall more or less retired on the job but probably after the 1988 election and new Reagan appointed justices denied the liberal wing dominance.

Justice Douglas was even worse, he retreated to an isolated shack in Washington state with no phone to require marshals to bring him court stuff and messages if the other justices needed to contact him. From all accounts, he was a pretty awful person to be around probably due to his thwarted ambition to be president.
