Are We Still Believing All Women Or Was That Just for the Kavanaugh Hearings?

Sherrod Brown, Democrat Senator from Ohio.

His ex-wife had previously accused him of domestic abuse, too, though now she's more reluctant to talk about it.

Recchie also sought a restraining order against Brown to keep him from "doing bodily harm" to her. Recchie claimed to be "in fear for the safety and well-being of myself and our children due to [Brown’s] physical violence and abusive nature” and said Brown "intimidated, pushed, shoved and bullied" her on multiple occasions.

A judge granted a seven-count restraining order against Brown. Recchie soon accused Brown of violating the order and said he "pushed me up against the wall with his arms in order to pass and entered the house."

According to a Columbus Dispatch article from 1989, Recchie again accused her ex-husband of violent behavior. This time, she said, Brown pounded on her door so hard that he broke it and assaulted her new husband, Joseph Recchie. Both Recchies filed police reports at the time but did not end up pressing charges.

And now another woman accuses him of making an "uninvited, unwanted, and sudden advance."

Sounds like a pattern of conduct to me.

Can we afford to have this wife-beating likely rapist in the Senate?

6 If any action happens on Brown, this is how it will go down:

It will happen after the election, which he'll win.

Then the new Democratic governor will convince him to step down and replace Brown with another Democrat.

This, of course, will not happen. Brown will win his re-election and the story will never be heard from again outside of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

It will be the battle of name recognition between her and Biden in the early states, knocking out most of the lower field in a few weeks.

One of the two will end up the nominee, and it'll be Trump versus the groper or the has been.

I don't want it that way, because Trump probably has the general election on lockdown, and I'd rather have the election discredit the future of the Democratic Party than its past.

Worship Leader Commits 47 Heresies In 30-Second Prayer

As his fellow Christians could only peek out one eye and watch in terror, Lancer plowed forward, totally unaware he was totally botching nearly every facet of Christian thought, repeating a long parade of heresies from throughout church history. In the brief, whimsical prayer, Lancer managed to stumble into Gnosticism, Pelagianism, Arianism, Patripassionism, and a brand-new heresy with elements of both modalism and the plot of Stargate SG-1.

"It was pretty amazing, actually," said head pastor Matt Wetzel. "I was going to stop him, but I wanted to see if he could hit every apostasy known to man." Wetzel also admitted he needs to do a better job shepherding the worship leader. "Yeah, I guess that's my job, isn't it?"

She says this is needed because studies show that few lower-income Americans have enough savings to pay for an emergency.

So if we give them all $500 a month, they'll surely save it for emergencies, right? It's not like they'll immediately spend it on booze, tattoos, hookers, meth, bail, hair weaves, fake fingernails, big-screen t.v.'s, or any other the other shit they typically spend their income on, right? With $500 a month of other peoples' money, they will magically be transformed into responsible savers!

Worship Leader Commits 47 Heresies In 30-Second Prayer

As his fellow Christians could only peek out one eye and watch in
terror, Lancer plowed forward, totally unaware he was totally botching
nearly every facet of Christian thought, repeating a long parade of
heresies from throughout church history. In the brief, whimsical prayer,
Lancer managed to stumble into Gnosticism, Pelagianism, Arianism,
Patripassionism, and a brand-new heresy with elements of both modalism
and the plot of Stargate SG-1.

"It was pretty amazing, actually," said head pastor Matt Wetzel. "I
was going to stop him, but I wanted to see if he could hit every
apostasy known to man." Wetzel also admitted he needs to do a better job
shepherding the worship leader. "Yeah, I guess that's my job, isn't
it?"

The Ohio GOP is as GOPe as you can imagine, IMO, especially west and south of Cleveland. The party cares first and foremost about grabbing state and federal money. There are few genuine Trump supporters anywhere in leadership posts. Kasich embarrasses the party leadership, because he is such a loser (and a grumpy guy with a huge ego), but they don't fundamentally disagree with his policies.

When Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson (a much better gunfighter than him) in a duel about a gambling dispute, he just soaked up Dickinson's shot to his right chest, so that he would have time to take careful, killing aim.

When Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson (a much better gunfighter than him) in a duel about a gambling dispute, he just soaked up Dickinson's shot to his right chest, so that he would have time to take careful, killing aim.

When he was treated afterward for his grievous, gaping chest wound, the doctor expressed shock that he had been able to remain standing after taking the bullet.

Jackson replied:

"I would have stood up long enough to kill him if he had put a bullet in my brain."

243 This shows a downward spiral of the Democrats.

Every day is a new discovery - a candidate's lies, candidate mocker her home state repeatedly, messiness with a former spouse/partner, etc.

I don't know if a messy divorce matters by itself, it's the trend and the overall perception of who the Democrats are, and right now (at east to those who hear these and PV-type video reports) the Democrat's mask is slipping. Bigly!

They try to make it sound all scientific and all of that, but the reality is that the sampling is self-selecting, in cases lying, compiled by unfaithful partisans, and certainly not being selected in a vacuum.

Just pointing out that the entire poll is so wrought with non-sampling error that any results coming out of it are meaningless. It's garbage, not data, and certainly not information.

It's a helluva thing. Particularly when you're good at reeling in the pork.

Look at Flake and McCain. There's no huge difference between the two; one mimicked the other like a little bird. But Arizonans put Flake out on his ear, and would've probably returned McCain to the Senate again if he hadn't been called home by Lord Satan first.

The only explanation I have for this disparity is that McCain brought home the bacon, and fried it up in a pan, where Flake was a junior guy without all that pull.

I think it started in the '80s or '90s as an evolution of the Valley Girl accent, which by then was deemed no longer cool enough in LA. It's a vocal styling meant to, depending on the pitch level, indicate world-weariness, cynicism and dissolution (low pitch) or faux-innocence, sarcastic-childlikeness, or mockery (high pitch).

Since then, it has spread throughout the country, but only in certain demographics -- mostly white females age 13-~35.

399 Traditionally the incumbent president's party loses 2 Senate seats and 32 House seats in an off year election.

Right now RCP has the Repubs at +3 in the Senate and -27 In the House.

In 2016 RCP slightly under estimated the Republicans strength in congress. They where off by 1 Senate Seat and 6 House Seats.

So, if you "unskew" RCP you'd expect that the Republicans would end up +4 Senate, -21 House. I don't think I've ever seen such a lopsided change between the two houses...

But really, who knows.

The pollsters missed Trump's victory...and they missed it where most of the contested congressional elections are today.

You have the shy Tory effect...in spades...

But the left is emboldened enough to attack people on the streets so they think they are about to win...

356 what is whatever people do called "vocal fry"?

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 19, 2018 01:14 PM (AllCR)

It's very common in younger women. It's kind of a creaky crackly
affectation to their speech. Hard to explain, but you can't miss it when
you hear it. I find it very annoying. Never been sure if it's
intentional or not.

Posted by: Pug Mahon

I think it started in the '80s or '90s as an evolution of the Valley
Girl accent, which by then was deemed no longer cool enough in LA. It's
a vocal styling meant to, depending on the pitch level, indicate
world-weariness, cynicism and dissolution (low pitch) or faux-innocence,
sarcastic-childlikeness, or mockery (high pitch).

Since then, it has spread throughout the country, but only in certain demographics -- mostly white females age 13-~35.

412 Re 386 James Madison,

For a good proxy, look at which seats the Dems and the Rep House and Senate campaigns are sending money to and which states have been cut off. This does leave out states like NJ Rep. who is mainly self financing but gives an overall pretty decent picture. You will have to dig for this info as it is buried pretty deep. Parties generally have a better idea through expensive private polling (larger sample size, crosschecks via focus groups, etc.) than media polls which generally suck.

The key way that polls are manipulated is the likely voter sample which when getting into small numbers can be dramatically wide ranges for subgroups. The best screening is verifying with the actual voter history files but those are pretty expensive so most media polls simply add their own special sauce in figuring out turnout. Not surprisingly, over time, most of these polls have a pro-Dem addition via secret sauce in most years (2008 and 2012 excepted at the presidential level).

Yes, it's the same physical action as glottal fry -- but glottal fry was almost universally only ever spoken by MEN, and was considered a speech disorder, done unwittingly. This new "accent" was named after "glottal fry," but given the title "vocal fry" instead because it was seen as being used INTENTIONALLY for the first time. And also -- by women for the first time.

Peter Falk, Noam Chomsky and William F. Buckley (among many others) at times all did "glottal fry" in decades past, but not on purpose as a shibboleth-like tribal accent. It was just a physical quirk in the way they spoke. Only now is it done as a cultural affectation.

Eddie Murphy did a pretty good movie about years ago - The Distinguished Gentleman.

It wasn't exactly incumbency ... the sitting Congressman died and it turned out that con-man Eddie had the same exact name as him, so he decided to run since most people would still vote for the dead guy just recognizing the name.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at October 19, 2018 01:38 PM (nEXx0)

435 399, generally you have to take the economy into account when using historical accounts -- Reagan, Obama, Carter, Clinton, LBJ, Eisenhower, Nixon, all had sour economies in their first two years. GWB and his father had war issues in 90 and 02 which messes up historical models. You have to reach back really to FDR's 1934 midterms for a president that had such a good economy with joblessness and low inflation. The historical markers also rely on a president generating a wave in their election which leaves vulnerable seats. That really did not happen in 2016 for Trump but did for Reagan, Obama, Carter, Clinton, LBJ, and Ike. Large seat gains in wave elections include weak candidates in marginal seats.

The counter example is that there are a lot more R open seats than D which are easier to win for the out party. PA rejiggering will also affect results in that state. Campaign spending generally does not have a linear effect when races are competitive so at a certain point, like Beto in TX, any additional funds are basically wasted in that race. You also need a good measure of candidate quality for each in House races and a good ground game for turnout is generally worth about 5 pct of the vote.
