Good morning Morons. Enjoy the weekend and a few stories that didn't get their fair share of attention here at the AoSHQ.

Feel free to discuss any of these or whatever tickles your fancy in this open thread. Please don't run with sharp objects. Leave the 'ettes pony tails alone and be nice to one another.

Have a great weekend!!!

It was only a matter of time before this stuff came down to a price point that's more like reality..

It's cheap technology..

I've been looking at a doorbell cam.. I don't need cameras throughout the house.. it's just me and my wife. no kids to watch, etc.

But the Ring doorbell camera seems to be the only one that will run off the low current in the doorbell wiring.. and it's still way too expensive.

73 Well, the reason I ask is....the bf is visiting some friends for camping this weekend and it was gonna be a little bit of a drive. Now, we've never said "Call when you get there" to each other before. Like some of you have said, it was unspoken, we just always texted when one of us got home from the other's.

The other night, his trip came up, and I don't know what compelled me, but I was like, "Text me when you get in" and I regretted it immediately, thinking I was sounding nagging or like I was mommying him or something.

Well guess what....lol...he didn't check in. I am going to guess that A) he got in late b) he got busy with his mates and forgot or c) bad service in the woodsy area he is gonna be in.

I am glad o hear that "Call when you get there" is a pretty universal thing, and not just my crazy family.

Don't think Alexa is a requirement, just an option.

Direct cloud storage, and alerts to your smart phone, with rolling 14 day storage is a damn good feature.

119 note to all who speculated that maybe the Saudis were set up - looks like now they've officially 'fessed up to killing him. There was just too much evidence from too many good sources to ever think different, which is why their cover up collapsed.

Sometimes your bad friends do really bad things. And again, it's not the killing of Kashoggi that I object to so much - it's the stupid, public, hamhanded and obvious way in which they did it, that was the great blunder. The United States is their patron, and anything they do has the obvious possibility of reflecting on us, that's why they should have been much more careful.

I saw Amy Schumer thinks white players that do not kneel are racists.

Another example of the Camel's Nose.

Yesterday: "Oh why don't you let them show their values?"

Today: "Everyone must show these values or you're a racist!"

(see also: gay marriage)

Once in his shop a workman wrought
With languid hand, and listless thought,
When through the open window's space,
Behold! a Camel thrust his face.
"My nose is cold," he meekly cried,
"Oh, let me warm it by thy side."

Since no denial word was said,
In came the nose, in came the head,
As sure as sermon follows text,
The long, excursive neck came next,
And then, as falls the threatening storm,
In leap'd the whole ungainly form.

Aghast the owner gazed around,
And on the rude invader frown'd,
Convinc'd as closer still he prest,
There was no room for such a guest,
Yet more astonish'd, heard him say,
"If incommoded, go your way,
For in this place I choose to stay."

Oh, youthful hearts, to gladness born,
Treat not this Arab lore with scorn.
To evil habit's earliest wile,
Lend neither ear, nor glance, nor smile,
Choke the dark fountain ere it flows,
Nor even admit the Camel's Nose.

130 There are an estimated 4,000 in the current illegal alien-wannabe "caravan."

Last month, Border Patrol apprehended over 16,000 illegal aliens near the southern border. That's just one month, and they caught 4 times the number in the caravan. And BP only catches a fraction of those illegally crossing the border, so many more than that got through undetected.

But we don't need no stinkin' raaaaaaacist border wall. We can afford 30,000 or 40,000 or 50,000 (or more) new illegal aliens a month coming here to mooch off us.

After all, it's not as if we're already up to our eyeballs in debt, and can't pay for things like the medical care we promised our own veterans, right?

Not at all. There are probably differences between families, but with cross-country trips (flying or driving), bad weather, late night, or anything else, yeah, it's totally expected in my family that there'll be a text message, if not a call.

Camping trip would definitely qualify.

Evidence of this:

I opened the fridge the other day and found one of those cherry tomato containers with ONE cherry tomato left in it. One lonely little cherry tomato...left in the container and put back in the fridge. I turned to my husband, who had been eating them earlier and said, "Were you too full to eat the last one?"

His response? "That one didn't come out when I poured them into my hand."

178 71 And now, I stumbled across this system that is so underpriced that they almost seem disposable.

Yet they have some fairly serious reviews from known names in the electronics business.

Anybody have experience with the WYZE system, at all?

https://www.wyzecam.com
Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice

.................

Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at October 20, 2018 09:18 AM (438dO)

What you are really paying for is not the hardware. It's the storage.

WYZE is about 10% the price of a Cloud Cam. What you need to consider, and I don't see the info on the WYZE site, is what does this look like for multiple cams in a house?

If someone breaks in and steals some stuff, you are really going to want to have that video for the police, so retention/download of a cloud store video is important. The SD card storage is nice for that. But that is additional cost and you need to recover the card before files get overwritten.

I put 5 cams in our house, as we are out of town for a couple of weeks at a time at least once per year. I was concerned about daughter and her meth-head boyfriend.

I went with Cloud Cam at the time. They were just coming out, so $100/cam. Got 3 cams at the time. Free storage, but i could not download the clips with that level. Free storage will handle 3 cams. Got the $100/yr storage plan. Will handle 5 cams and you can download the clips.

You can set up "ignore zones" The is handy for ignoring events like blinking Christmas tree lights. You can set the sensitivity so it can ignore things like a cat traipsing through the room.

Setup is via app on a tablet or phone. Bluetooth. Once that is done, comms is through internet. Alerts on the app when events are detected.

Added 2 more cams earlier this year.

180 Sometimes your bad friends do really bad things. And again, it's not the killing of Kashoggi that I object to so much - it's the stupid, public, hamhanded and obvious way in which they did it, that was the great blunder. The United States is their patron, and anything they do has the obvious possibility of reflecting on us, that's why they should have been much more careful.

(notice how Israel is sitting over in the corner, smirking and thinking "nyah nyah, here's a shitstorm and none of you have got any way to blame it on us!")

Yes, all they have to do is get across the U.S. border and assert an asylum claim, and then they're guaranteed a hearing. Since so many foreigners have been gaming the asylum system for so long, it takes years to get a hearing now, and meanwhile the illegal alien is immune from deportation.

The idiotic asylum laws MUST be changed. They are the source of many of these globalists' scams.

But we also need to change immigration laws to stop illegal aliens from being able to file multiple appeals on specious grounds, dragging the con on for years and years.

Taking the deceased out in installments seems a desperation move. There are better ways to handle that, even if it means pickling him in a 55 gallon barrel with Eau de Cologne for a couple of years to let the heat die down or it is time to replace a deep-freeze.

It is not like anyone would suspect a couple extra gallon jugs a day for a week.

Nah, but when you brought a Makita every problem seems easier knocked down to components.

'Concierge service' seems to be a thing for some Drs. They agree to be 'on-call' and available for a nominal monthly fee.

Also, some Drs. I know work for the 'free' clinic. You don't have to pay if you can't afford it, but cash contributions *are* accepted and expected from those who can afford it. Hmm...cash.

I don't have first hand experience with them. It seems like a useful model, more consistent with the concept of insurance (as opposed to pre-paid healthcare). I think the bigger problem though is that pricing has lost touch with reality. That plus an administrator-heavy delivery model. 319 I think that MbS was set up. And then beyond the conspiracy was the pileon.

A lot of people in the Middle East, and in SA, don't like the fact that MbS let women drive and is turning SA into a tech center instead of oil capital.

Once he was set up, the pileon on Trump began, because Trump is allied with MbS on reshaping the ME.

Of course, given the fact that the deep state exists, it would not surprise me to find that the whole thing was one big conspiracy.

This.

I find it hilarious that the press is falling all over itself to carry Turkish propaganda.

Turkey, the exemplar of human rights that regularly imprisons reporters.

Turkey, whose own military officers are fleeing into exile.

Turkey, which held an American pastor for two years on the transparently ludicrous charge that he was some sort of Dr. Evil-type conspirator.

The BS detector on this went of last week, but remember that the press has to provide anti-Trump narratives and this is all they have left.

They can't talk up the Blue Wave because it vanished.

Kavanaugh blew up in their faces and their people have sh!tton of #MeToo issues. So much for the believing the wimmen!

The economy is roaring.

***********

I don't have first hand experience with them. It seems like a useful model, more consistent with the concept of insurance (as opposed to pre-paid healthcare). I think the bigger problem though is that pricing has lost touch with reality. That plus an administrator-heavy delivery model. Worst combination in the world for actually practicing medicine is private sector administrators imposing bureaucratic government rules.

Nazis are the waves of mini-enemies you have to fight before you get to the boss fight. The boss is global warming. After you deflect three of global warming's attacks back at it, it will crouch and blink red for a few seconds, shoot it then. It'll get back up and attack you. You have to do it five times before it dies. There's an armor recharger hidden behind the tapestry on the left if you need it.

Be sure to save first so you don't have to start over from the beginning if it kills you.

340 Here's some polling info that came out last night for those who care.

No statewide polls in Michigan since last week, but they polled two congressional districts. A tie in the 11th, narrow GOP lead in the 8th (which has a GOP incumbent.

Here's were things get interesting. They also polled for US Senate in both districts and James was running even in the 11th and was leading 50-45 in the 8th, which means he is outperforming the congresscritter.

Stabenow was last polled at 9 points ahead, but if she's now losing the 8th, she may be in real trouble. James is from the Detroit area and if he pulls just 20 percent of the vote there, she's toast.

No one's looking at Michigan, even RCP has it "likely Dem" but if they lose this seat, could be big pickups elsewhere.

Something else to keep in mind. These mail in results do not include those since October 9th from 8 Florida counties affected by Hurricane Michael - all rabidly Red counties: Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty, Washington. The voting results from these counties in 2016 were 108,975 for PDT and 36,525 for Scankles. Just imagine if they were included in those totals.

Looked back at the 2012 Senatorial election map, and 6 of these counties went overwhelmingly for Connie Mack. the other two - Nelson won Holmes by 48 votes and Franklin by 1 (!).

And in 2014, Rick Scott won decisively over Crist in all 8 counties: 69,934 to 26.899

Gosh, hope these people will be able to vote by election day.

As this area is part of the Redneck Riviera, instinct says most of them will literally walk across broken glass to vote against Gillum & Nelson.

Way back when, in elementary school, they showed up a map of South America, with all the funny shaped countries, and the different colors, and the dots and stars indicating where major cities were, and which ones were the Capitols (oh hey there, Brasilia, in the middle of nowhere there).

They really really really tried to teach us just how important it was that we got to know our "neighbors" to the south.

Today, I probably couldn't tell you which country was which, except Brazil, cuz it's the biggest, and Argentina, because it's shaped like an alligator, and Chile, because it's shaped like a snake.

372 I think you win on the mass of the object you're trying to accelerate, and lose on the mass of the material you're flinging out the back to produce acceleration.

Unless I'm mistaking your meaning, flinging more mass results in a stronger force on the object being moved. So ejecting a more dense fluid* would result in more energy imparted to the "rocket" b/c of Newton's 3rd.

The problem is that you have to carry more mass to eject more mass, which is where Tsiolkovsky's comes in.

Yep. That's my SWAG at the way those variables interact. Well, the one variable, actually, but on two sides of the equation.

I hope so. Those people up in the FL panhandle are hardy types. It's just that they may have temporarily scattered outside of their counties and cities. I know that voting centers have been set up for them. Hope that also they get their by mail ballots for those not in the area. Right now they have so many pressing issues to deal with. But their votes are necessary to defeat the Nelson doorknob and Gillum thug.
