Creepy Porn Lawyer and His Client Sloppy Daniels Have Their Nuisance Suit Dismissed
Trump Entitled to Legal Expenses?

Correction: One aspect of this bullshit lawsuit, the defamation claim, was dismissed as a SLAPP (strategic lawsuit against public participation) nuisance suit, that is, a frivolous lawsuit designed to burden someone's free expression and free involvement in political participation.

The other parts of this lawsuit (against Cohen and Trump) are still, for the moment, proceding.

#Basta.

I don't know what the statute says (and don't feel like looking it up), but given that the judge has dismissed the lawsuit on a finding that it was a frivolous suit filed for the purpose of depriving the defendant of his constitutional rights, an award of attorneys fees to the defendant should be automatic.

Menendez's numbers have been well south of 50% for some time - historically a very dangerous sign for an incumbent, esp. senators, whose long terms usually brings better name-recognition than almost any other state-level position. And I believe NJ's new-ish governor is sort of an insane moonbat, too, and is already wildly unpopular.

Who knows. NJ goes in the pick-up column. That one would sting worst of all the likely pick-ups.

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras (Reuters) - More than 1,000 people, including families and women carrying babies, set off from Honduras toward the United States on Saturday, days after the United States urged Honduras' president to halt mass migration.

Some 1,300 people joined the so-called "March of the Migrant," planning to walk from San Pedro Sula in northern Honduras through Guatemala and into Mexico, organizer Bartolo Fuentes said. Once in Mexico, they plan to request refugee status to remain in the country or a visa to pass through to the U.S. border, he said.

3) Now Stormy can't testify she got paid
4) Cohen already has his deal and can't testify to that either
5) Without the NDA to admit, without Stormy or Cohen to authenticate, Mueller has his flaccid pud in his palm

I have a project, not the main group one, that I hate to abandon but am thinking about seeing if any of the partner uni's could host me on a computer and similar software that I think they could get for free (ours is built on a package that has to be purchased from a Swiss university.) If I had that and could get any kind of decent job; leaving the jerks here scrambling to figure shit out would get quite tempting. (I'd about want to coordinate resignations with the handful of other folks that are critical and do actual work and leave the pissants pissing themselves)

Probably pointless for Trump to do that, since Slutty is probably judgment-proof or close to it, and he'd never be able to collect.

Seems like there should be some penalty for CPL, the lawyer who filed the frivolous lawsuit. He should be required to take 500 hours of remedial CLE, just for starters, and his law license should be suspended until he completes the classes.

I don't have a link, in part because different articles have different bits of info. But the long and the short of it is this -
The Turks are the ones claiming that he's dead, and they're claiming that they've got footage that proves it. But they've yet to produce the footage.
The Turks are apparently also asking the Saudis if they'd like to participate in the investigation. Um... what?
The journalist wasn't so clean as the press would have you think. He apparently was in contact with Bin Ladin before 9/11 (and possibly afterwards), was working with Saudi Intelligence before 9/11, and is apparently a big supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood. And he may have been the most powerful supporter of that group still in the country, and thus a possible threat to the prince currently running things there.

So at the moment, we're not even entirely sure that he's dead because no one's provided any actual proof (despite Turkish claims). But the Saudis could quickly debunk any claims of his death by showing evidence that he's alive. And they obviously haven't done that.

Oh, and apparently the usual suspects are arguing that this means that we need to bail on the Saudis, and restart the Iran agreement.

Our maintenance professionals will do a detailed assessment of the F-22 Raptors and other aircraft before we can say with certainty that damaged aircraft can be repaired and sent back into the skies. However, damage was less than we feared and preliminary indications are promising.

Yeah, not bad.

But Non-playable characters are just the filler characters in video games. Like the ones that have one line to tell you to help you finish your mission. They just kind of exist in the background and are totally unimportant besides saying "if you open the door on the left, something bad may happen" on repeat.

So I think the meme is basically saying these NPC's are just braindead drones, not so much filler characters destined to be killed on the away mission... even less important than them. But its very similar to how redshirts service a plot purpose (shit! that mission was dangerous! A redshirt died!).

Now, I may or I may not check out the IMAX version, which does sound memorable. Now the truth is getting its pants on while the lie is boat-racing the globe, etc.
And I can't make myself care. The movie's being shot down by lib critics for its patriotism, and ignored by their target audience because they didn't want to be seen to appeal to them.

I'd say everybody lost. So shut up, Sonny.

(p.s. TuCa is grinding out new nicknames for Warren. Now we know what his show prep was!!)

478 Rep. Jordan with a good summation of one of the things at stake in November - he lists all the key items that DOJ still refuses to provide, and Rosie's refusal to appear.

Most of the "winning" feels very very hollow to me, when the country remains essentially at a Third World level in terms of integrity of key institutions, and constitutional dissolution (Congress not effectively exercising its power).

If the Dems take the House (never thought they would, but it's plausible), remember - almost all of this simply vanishes. Unless DOJ/Huber and others actually fully investigate and prosecute these various mega-scandals, they'll simply be brushed under the rug, as in any run-down lawless authoritarian country. And one of the two major parties, almost the entire "press", and half the country are just fine with that.

S**t happens, a lot of weird s**t happens in the MidEast. But while details and facts are often murky, interests and dynamics are clearer than anywhere else. Trump and team understand these and are pursuing them, and will continue to do so.

I remember back when this entire Stormy Daniels crap started, Trump was getting torched for saying initially he didn't know anything about a payment to her.
Apparently, he didn't know other than the brief discussion revealed on Cohen's secret recordings in which Trump says he wants a check written if she is paid.
So, he didn't sign the NDA, likely never seeing it, he ended up paying Cohen out of Trump Inc. funds to reimbursement Cohen for the payment he actually made to her for an unenforceable NDA.
Do I have that correct?

Even smaller. I knew one of his OTHER nephews back in the mid-90s. He was in my first year Arabic language class when I was at UCSB. He had a smattering of Arabic, but needed to learn more so he could talk to the family back in Saudi.

Really nice guy. He once had the class of about 10 of us over to his place for dinner to watch Lawrence of Arabia on his ginormous big screen TV. That was a fun night. Oh, and his stockbroker girlfriend was heartstoppingly gorgeous.

Hey! that's not that long ago.

Seems just like yesterday.

I was living in LA and I was like: "meh"

Cause until we actually start a colony on the moon then none of it means much except as propaganda. Which is all the moon shots were about.

Then NASA decides to sink billions into a shuttle and proceeds to fritter away our national enthusiasm with bureaucratic bullshit.

I like that private enterprise is taking over going into space as that's the only way we'll get a colony on the moon or mars.

It's like in the beginning the government backed most of the seagoing exploration around Africa and to the Americas. But it didn't start making money until they started colonies.

And of course it helped that there was gold and silver to steal from stupid Indigenous savages.

BTW why is nobody ever pissed off at Spain and Portugal when it comes to slavery or wiping out the Indians?

They're the ones who profited the most from all of that. The took billions out of central and south america and that was in money THEN. Now it would be the equivalent of a few trillions of dollars.

Spain was a European power only because of the money they stole from the Indians.

It's like slavery. The original slavers were the Egyptians and then the Arabs. The Portuguese showed up on the African coast and found a fully fledged slave market already in business. They just took advantage of it. They didn't start it. In fact slavery still exists in Africa and it's the Arabs and the Muslims who are the biggest profiteers.

SMDH. But NOOOO it's all American's fault for slavery and it's all white people this and white people that.

Well guess who sold your ancestors to the Arabs? It was one of many tribal Kings in the area that's who. They sold tribe members who became superfluous or who threatened the rule of the King or it was those captured in some tribal warfare.

God I wish people would read some f'ing history.

644 What killed Sears and will kill the others like Montgomery Wards is prices.

MW is selling some really good stuff but they sell at prices that are way too high for the average person and in comparison to what can be bought elsewhere.

And frankly, the quality isn't all that much better.

I used to think that's how Macy's got away with still being in business: quality.

Nope. They're stuff (some of it) can be just as shoddy as what you get from Amazon. It's all snob appeal.

MW just doesn't have it. I think they're going for the middle class Black family as they seem to be aiming for that demographic.

They're gonna tank soon too. I'm just not interested in paying almost twice the price for something that doesn't look any better or last any longer than stuff I can get cheaper. And the rest of the consumers agree with me.

The Clintons own a house next to the Clinton Library in Arkansas, they own an apartment in NYC, they own two houses in the Hamptons, one for themselves and then one next door they bought for Chelsea and/or it was speculated that they were buying it for SS to stay in as they were sure she was going to win the presidency. They still owned a former home in Arkansas from when he was Gov. and Chelsea's $10M apartment in Manhattan is owned by a corporation which might be part of a trust of the Clintons.

Who knows what else they own as they have put as much into trusts as possible to avoid taxes. You know, the ones they rave that Republicans don't want to pay that hurts poor people.

735 I imagine I'll get willowed, but I'm not sure I'll make to the ONT, so here y'all go:

Twilight in the Mexican desert slowly falls as the Honduran invasion force settles in for their evening meal. The people talk about the long journey behind them, and the trials still to come before they reach the United States and the free shit that awaits them when they arrive.

Gradually, a noise in the sky envelopes the encampment. The simple people, unaware and unused to to modern technology, are anxious as to the sounds portent and become nervous. Suddenly, seemingly without direction, the sound is overtop them, and small objects appear floating slowly down in the camps direction. Panic ensues, pots are dumped, and fires are kicked out as the people scatter in all directions to take cover. Their handlers had not warned them of any type of response, much less one that could come from the sky without warning.

The objects come to rest on the ground. A low, frightened keening comes from the group as the leaders approach the first of the objects. Keeping their distance, they circle around to observe fron all angles before they finally recogognize the objects as...paper?. The guide picks the first one up, unwraps it, and reads

"Regresar a tus hogares o lo que te enfrenta es más terrible de lo que puedas imaginar. Tienes dos días. De lo contrario el deber del canal espera."

The guide gathers the frightened masses, and reassures them that a message from the Mexican government has arrived, and that all is prepared for their passage.

Two days later, at dawn, Apache gunships rise from behind the horizon and begin their approach...

739 Yeah I'm not sure that we have the facts yet on the thing in Turkey. May have missed something new, but the only "cover stories" blowing up the last few days have been the Turkish media ones, which were direct feeds from Turkish intel. I think. Not following it that closely.

It's potentially a big bilateral matter for Turkey and S.A. For us? Only what we make of it. Friendly (i.e. cooperating, non-hostile, and/or vital interests of ours) regimes in the region have historically been involved in some rather dicey activities, including people slipping on bars of soap, and tragically perishing. We have never - of course - burned any bridges or even engaged in any "bilateral crisis theater" that I can recall, in response to these things.

Jack, I'm almost disapointed in you - read what the King said more carefully. The King said, if I recall correctly, that HE didn't know anything about it. He wasn't lying - the King is 83 years old and has pretty much transitioned to figurehead status - none of his people tell him anything operational, and he doesn't want to know.

So the King didn't lie to Trump, he told the truth as best he could (although disingenuously) Notice that Trump did NOT talk to Prince Salman, who isn't talking to anyone publicly right now, and who no one doubts was behind all of the recent unpleasantness.

It may turn out that the Saudis have been lying publicly to the world and to Trump for the past 2 weeks and that will be problematic. It still doesn't explain why you send your Secretary of State to the country that is about to enter the media barrel.

773 It may turn out that the Saudis have been lying publicly to the world and to Trump for the past 2 weeks and that will be problematic. It still doesn't explain why you send your Secretary of State to the country that is about to enter the media barrel.

Maybe you can explain that but it seems odd to me.

It which case I would expect the Saudi foreign minister to come to Trump and not the other way around.

780 That moment when you realize that most adults still read this symbol "#" as "pound"

"Pound sign" was a newfangled word when I learned computers.

It was the number sign when I learned typing.

With Trump you never know but if the strategy is to not insert the US into the middle of something we have nothing to do with sending your SoS to the country that committed a crime that has the world up in arms seems like a really odd media strategy.

Not odd at all, if you want to ensure that Royals know that the Full Force and Authority of the US Government is gonna drop a dime on them if they don't straighten up and do what they're told. If you're giving an ultimatum to a King, you don't do it over the phone and you don't send a low level underling to do it. You send someone that will be taken very, very seriously.

And given how much pressure the US put on the Saudis, and how quickly and completely they folded, which even I found surprising - and I am speculating here, but to me it fits what we've observed - I think that the Turks weren't the only ones who had surveillance going on in that embassy, hard evidence that let them know without a doubt exactly what happened. We had some of our own, although for obvious reasons we won't talk publicly about it. (Erdogan burned a lot of his assets to go public the way he did)

I stopped trying to analyze everything PDT does. He is either very smart or does not understand certain things...but in the end, all that matters, are the results and so far i got nothing to complain about

You just told me the King is a figurehead. It can't be both.

Once again, if you want to send a message to an inferior who committed a crime and you are the President of the United States you don't go to them. You tell them they must come to you.

We'll see what happens but so far all we have is news articles reporting on what other news articles claim they have from sources. If it turns out this was a rogue Saudi operation then I am surprised at how Trump is handling this. But that's probably why he is running the place and not me.

The Kashoggi thing is business as usual for SA and Turkey for that matter. It's the DimMedia that's ginning. Pompeo probably going there for entirely different reasons. Like Iran.

Although personally the King is mostly a figurehead, when someone like Pompeo travels to Riyadh is is interfacing with the entire establishment of the Royalty. There's always that weird dichotomy with Royalty - L'estat c'est moi and all that. It's a world of conspiracies and double dealing and backstabbing, every minute of the day and night.

And as far as this being a "rogue operation" - well obviously from now on that's the best cover story to go with, to protect Crown Prince Salman - but it's a heck of a "rogue operation" that had total operational control of one of the most important and secure Saudi Embassies in the entire middle east, the Istanbul Embassy. I suppose the "rogue elements" just asked nicely if they could borrow the embassy for the night.

797 Under the Texas TCPA if the court grants the motion, the court must award attorney's fees AND a monetary sanction sufficient to deter future similar conduct. The court's order didn't mention sanctions, but don't be surprised if the court eventually awards them since they're not discretionary.
