Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: J.V. EditionMaybe a taste of totalitarianism is a necessary prerequisite for the preservation of freedom. In the greatest experiment in freedom the world has ever known (that's here, in case it wasn't obvious), we seem to have gone off the rails. Perhaps the people who are suggesting that the "burning times" is a necessary first step on the path to our roots of freedom and self-determination and independence, are correct. Because we are fat and happy and barrelling down the mountain toward a country that has absolutely no sense of any of the things that innervated those very smart men who founded this country. Hungary Enacts Plans to Ban Gender Studies Courses, Tangles with Soros The Soros-funded Central European University (CEU) said on Oct. 16 that it was a “major infringement on academic freedom and university autonomy.” Soros is touted by Orban’s government as public enemy No. 1—as the puppeteer behind leftist influences that Orban says he wants to replace with traditional “Christian values.” The Hungarian government’s anti-Soros campaign forced his Open Society Foundations to leave the country earlier this year, after creating new rules on influence by foreign organizations. And look at that! Good old Nazi George is involved, and getting his pet brain-washing project sidelined by the Hungarian government. Why, it's as if the government is trying to conserve the traditional culture of the country, and not let it be subsumed by globalist nonsense in the form of 71 genders and idiotic pseudo-intellectual blather. I'm trying to think of a reason why the Hungarian people would be wary of a left-wing globalist perspective, and the use of academia to control society. Anyone have any idea why they seem so sensitive? Anything in their history? I can't tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or serious, but: pleaseohpleaseohplease....Run Hillary Run! How Hillary Clinton could win in 2020 China is America's and Western Democracy's biggest challenge, and the willing fools among the Left who cozy up to Chinese money are playing a very dangerous game. They are crying about some existential violation of civilized conduct because the Saudis killed somebody. And yes...it was ham-handed and stupid. But the Chinese do that kind of shit every single day. Why the double standard? Nails in the Coffin: President Trump Goes 'Postal' On China Luckily our president takes the Chinese threat seriously, or at least more seriously than Silicon Valley, whose mandarins (SWIDT?) are having masturbatory fantasies about the Chinese markets. Ace touched on this yesterday, but there is a bit more information... Do you want to destroy a free society? Then create the perception in its citizens that the government apparatus is not strictly non-partisan and evenhanded; that the servants of the people -- the employees of government -- are not held to the same standards as everyone else. There is a good reason why prosecutors have traditionally taken graft and bribery and other criminality amongst public servants very seriously. It is a powerful signal of the breakdown of the social compact between government and citizen when those who are elected (and chosen by those whom we elected) to serve us violate that agreement.

Perhaps, but I doubt it's enough. I see very few movies in the theater, but this was one I would have attended, until I heard what they did. I read the The Week article about Hillary and I want to know if the author is drunk. Hillary Clinton has no core principles beyond whatever is trendy. When it was trendy to be tough on crime, she was, when it was trendy to be for war, she was. She is a weathervane that obviously points in the direction of the prevailing wind. You would get more steady leadership from a caffeinated squirrel than her.

Hungary Enacts Plans to Ban Gender Studies Courses, Tangles with Soros
The Soros-funded Central European University (CEU) said on Oct. 16 that it was a "major infringement on academic freedom and university autonomy." The Hungarians have probably observed us and noted that "gender studies" are the means by which the left robs academic freedom from other departments. It seeps into the literature, psychology and sociology departments. It seeps into the administration of the college and then even starts making inroads into the hard sciences. The only way to stop this academic infringement is to prevent the pseudo subject of "gender studies" from being taught in the first place. Re: ads in downstairs thread. FBN, CNBC and Fox have had ads running repeatedly from some progressive group . First 30 second spot shows a teen girl sitting in class texting her mom that they are on lockdown because someone has a gun and they don't know where he is. Mom texts back that she is coming to pick her up, and eventually, daughter doesn't respond. Then a graphic comes over stating that 95% of Republicans in congress have an A rating from the NRA.
Second ad . Older white guy blue collars voice over states that Republicans let them down, that the only thing better in the country is Washington DC and banks, don't know how they'll pay for college, drain the swamp, huh, didn't happen, they are left behind, etc. TV on at coffee shop has Trump at a rally. Third ad. Being neither a sucker of cock or a smoker, that I'm getting them is weird enough. Students today also apparently have enough free cash to buy lots of food from restaurants, whether they are chains or individually owned. Once I was through the freshman year, where we had meal plans at the college cafeteria, I was on my own from then on in apartments, etc with roommates. We almost never ate out . We were broke and had to collaborate to afford a pizza. Grocery store shopping was a once a month deal in which we bought stuff like Kraft macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, ramen noodles, eggs, etc.
Go into any college town today with a variety of better restaurants and you'll be amazed at the number of students eating there. I blame the ever-growing popularity of soccer in schools.
Seriously, after every practice and game--especially if they lose--the parents stop at McDonalds or an ice cream parlor so the kids can get a treat ..... Posted by: JoeF. at October 18, 2018 11:50 AM Math: A 120-pound person burns about 11.4 calories per minute. Sixty minutes of soccer, if the person was of the non-slackish variety, would equal 684 calories burned. 340 calories in an ice cream cone. Because of family history my wife has to do the colon inspection thing every five years. When asked what prescriptions she took the Drs. were incredulous that she takes none. They never had anyone who took none in the age bracket that's getting the inspection. Lord knows the Drs. try to convince her she has high blood pressure. But she has a personal cuff, backed up with written recorded history, backed up by nurse reports who take the test and verify the cuff -- especially by established protocols -- which show her at a regular average 120/80 or less. Anyone who has a Dr. trying to push the high BP angle -- should look at the protocols for taking the test. Memorize them. They cheat all the time. "...smoking is a major health concern for the LGBT community, which
smoking rates approximately two times higher than in the straight population." I had an acquaintance in DC who was a gay actor (he had to do part-time office work to make ends met and that's how we met. He was a helluva nice guy too). He was in an Arena Stage production and invited me to a party at his place. His fellow actors and the production people also showed up and, although he himself didn't smoke, I was amazed by how many of the theater people did. And, of course, many of them were gay as hell. It was sort of interesting to see the gender segregation that developed during the course of the party. The (mostly) gay men gathered together in the living room and told a lot of little inside jokes and made you feel pretty unwelcome if you joined them. I ended up in the kitchen chatting with the women - who were really a pretty nice bunch. This was in the early '90's and nobody brought up politics at all. I assume that 99.9 percent of them were "progressive" and yet the party ended up being like many social gatherings I attended as a kid - guys in the living room, women hanging out in the kitchen. The few straight men there eventually ended up in the kitchen, hitting on the women. I have found that while gay men can be quite friendly to women on a one-to-one basis, they are pretty exclusionary once they are in a pack. Kubrick considered all ghost movies to be inherently optimistic.

Posted by: Jewells45 at October 18, 2018 11:34 AM (kG5hP) It's pretty much a case of preaching to the converted. I almost never go to movies, and if I were to go, I would go to a comedy, or a big splashy adventure like Raiders... Why would I go to a movie that tells me what I already know about Gosnell? And all the pro-aborts out there will avoid seeing the movie at all, or else go with the sole purpose of trying to find one tiny mistatement of fact. Frankly, I think the makers of the movie made a big mistake to pitch it as a documentary, and entitle it "Gosnell". They should have made it ostensibly as a fictional whodunit, or even as a horror movie, but made every single scene in the film accurately portray facts from Gosnell's trial. Get the public talking about the sensational new thriller, and then let some talking head "discover" that it is just a fictionalized rendering of what really happened. Yes. Ergot mold grows on damp rye. It produces ergotomine, a chemical cousin of LSD with much more pernicious, psychosis-inducing effects than LSD.
It has been connected to outbreaks of violent mass-hysteria in medieval Europe, including some witch hysteria. No one really knows if had anything to do with Salem, though. There is a constant pull at us - from God's love. It tugs and tugs - even when we don't conciously know what is tugging us. The closer we get, the stronger it is. Scientists are unable to know anything more about some topics, and they are starting to build theories upon guesses upon speculations based on extremely limited and confusing data we don't know enough about or have enough of to conclude from. another potential scientific breakthrough would be room temperature superconductors. Hard to even grasp how that would change things, but for starters everyone would suddenly have almost infinite energy available at very little cost.

I think we're at a point where philosophy has to catch up with science. I wouldn't wait for that. Our best philosophical concepts are still 2,000 years old, and a lot of them are a lot older than that. Perhaps the biggest advance we could make was to burn or delete everything that has been written in the name of "Philosophy" starting the year before Nietzche was born. I've sort of used gravitational force as a metaphor for God. There is a constant pull at us - from God's love. It tugs and tugs - even when we don't conciously know what is tugging us. The closer we get, the stronger it is. The farther away, the weaker it is - yet the tug is still there - until you break away completely ... and that is Hell.
Posted by: SH at October 18, 2018 01:01 PM (sX1BW) But you can precisely quantify gravity. I think this is why Newton was so influential. He really drove home that you can quantify all natural phenomena. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at October 18, 2018 01:10 PM (/qEW2) 518
I'm trying to figure out why the Left is positively swooning over O'Rourke. Well, it's not "the Left" as a whole so much as white leftists.
So I think it's because he's basically a white commie (just like them) who has something extra they can believe makes him a Person of Color. Kind of like Obama. Okay, okay. A slap-on Spanish nickname is not quite as good as a genuine African sperm donor, but still...... As with Obama, they see him as an idealized version of themselves --- exactly the same in holiness of ideology but free from any pesky taint of white privilege. 407 Anybody see the facebook post making the rounds about how women should stop breast feeding male babies, that they are teaching them to touch and assault women?
________________ No, but I saw some nitwit minor celeb whining about how the prince in Sleeping Beauty didn't ask her permission to kiss SB before he kissed her. Uh, SB was unconscious, and his kiss brought her back to life. How exactly was he supposed to ask an unconscious woman for consent? Or was he just supposed to leave her there to sleep forever, and go on his merry way? Is that the PC thing now, don't help anybody if that help might involve an "unauthorized" touching? No more CPR people! Just tell the unconscious victim that you would never dare put your mouth or hands on somebody else's body without their permission, and go on about your business. If the victim dies, at least you know you did the politically correct thing! Posted by: TrivialPursuer at October 18, 2018 01:10 PM (fqUgw) 520

Kubrick considered all ghost movies to be inherently optimistic. It meant that there WAS something after death as opposed to nothing. Apparently, it's one of several things he said to Stephen King that made King hate him. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Order The Battle of Lake Erie in Paperback Today! at October 18, 2018 * * I saw King talk at a convention in Knoxville back in '83. Someone asked him what he thought of Kubrick's The Shining. King said, "I consider I handed Stanley Kubrick a live hand grenade . . . and he heroically threw his body on top of it." Don't read too much into the Gosnell movie's box office. It actually did amazing at the box office, considering the subject matter and the media blackout. I and a lot of other people mostly go to movies for an "escape" from life, and "Gosnell" is anything but.
Even though I'm an ardent pro-lifer who followed the Gosnell case closely, I only went to the movie because I ADORE Andrew Klavan, and he wrote the screenplay, so I knew it would be great. Plus, I wanted to show my support, with my dollars, for righteous movies in general and Andrew Klavan in particular. I live in a rural area, so the nearest theater was a 2-hour drive, and it was raining all the way there, and snowing on the way back. But it WAS worth it, and I do recommend it. The writing, acting, and camerawork were all absolutely top-notch. A riveting story, well done, that just moved right along. I didn't realize beforehand that one of the actors was AlonZo Rachel, the awesome conservative black YouTube star. I think this was his first feature film role, and he was FANTASTIC. He and Dean Cain play the two detectives on the case, and they were an amazing team. If those two were to make one of those "buddy-cop" movies in the future, I would totally go see it. The Soros family didn't have any hand in the 1956 invasion, but their stinking paws must have been all over the Hungarian post war hyper-inflation of 1946
This was the worst case of hyper-inflation in history, where notes denoted in the trillions were issued. One always finds the fingerprints of currency speculators in these events, and what business was the Soros family engaged in? Posted by: Callmelennie at October 18, 2018 01:58 PM (4bWpd) 531

Suggestion: Don't use the word "innervated." Use "energized." The problem with innervated is that it is an obscure word that is confused with the more common "enervated" -- which means the exact opposite.
