The Morning Report - 10/10/18

rapewreck.jpg

Good morning kids. Midweek and before we delve into today's links there's a category 4 hurricane in the Gulf that's bearing down on the Florida Panhandle. Prepare as best you can and get the hell out of the area as soon as possible. Stay safe.

Leading off, in the aftermath of the attempted character assassination of now Justice Kavanaugh, we are witnessing a ramping up of the already unhinged rhetoric and physical violence, 100% of which is coming from the Democrat-Left-Media complex, academia and other quarters. While it is individuals such as the Dick Durbin-linked would-be mass assassin James Hodgkinson who are responsible for their actions, it is the manifestly criminally irresponsible rhetoric from the aforementioned party's and movement's most visible leaders that is driving this nation towards disaster. The internecine struggle between the old guard Trotskyites such as Clinton, Schemer and Palsi and the bust-out Maoists like Sandersnista and Loopy Ocasio-Fiasco might be fueling some of this as the former is trying to outdo the latter to hold on to the base. The salient point is the election of President Trump, and all the political and cultural shifts that paved the way for it, are seen by them as a mortal threat to the 100+ year, multi-generational "long march," if you will, to overthrow America as founded and "fundamentally transform" it into something else. Nearly 2 years in to the Trump presidency, the Left has exhausted all of their notionally non-violent yet completely outrageous and illegal efforts to overthrow him or at a minimum to derail his agenda. The nomination and now seating of Brett Kavanaugh I think was a watershed moment. For its part, the GOP most unexpectedly not only stood its ground but grew a spine, fought back and won a not insignificant victory in myriad ways. The only thing really that remains is physical intimidation and outright violence. With the midterms, at least from my perspective, looking more and more doubtful for the Dems, the reaction if they lose yet another election that has been pimped for over a year as "blue wave" is going to be ugly. Or worse. Rush Limbaugh did an extensive segment on an essay from author David Bahnsen, and this quote from his piece (linked below) sums it up rather succinctly:

...The left does not wish to co-exist with the right in this country; they wish to extinguish them. They do not value the liberal order of society, or they would never say something so illiberal as "believe all women." What we are living through right now is an unprecedented level of hate, dishonesty, distrust, and mistreatment. A strong disdain for the ideology of conservatism, of social norms, of Constitutional government, of western civilization - is what it is. But that ideological divide is no longer a merely ideological divide. It really never has been. That transition from worldview to actionable behavior has accelerated faster than I or any humanistic critic could have ever anticipated. And what it means for our national politics and the culture at-large is frightening...

Ace and the Cobs have done yeoman's work hitting all the angles of potential national dissolution hard in the last few weeks or more as have you commenters really since the Obama reign-of-error. Sadly, I'm sure it all will continue to come fast and furious, so to speak, in the run up to the Midterms and beyond. G-d help us.

And as Justice Kavanaugh heard arguments and asked questions on his first day in court, the President was on the campaign trail and at yet another jam-packed rally, the crowd started chanting "lock her up!" but this time it was in reaction to the President mentioning Fein-China Di-Fi. And as if on cue Hillary said that there are big differences between the allegations against Justice Kavanaugh and her husband (how right she is!), Chuck Grassley said the Dems were going try and smear Kavanaugh even as the confirmation votes were about to be cast and some good analysis of what lessons the GOP must learn going forward and Rabbi Dov Fischer on what effect all of this will have on the new justice's future decisions. Meanwhile, a big Arizona Dem donor is being charged with felony sex abuse. But still they persist... mostly in being silent about one of their own.

In First Amendment and Fakery news, Breitbart has an exclusive on a leaked Google memo where execs openly admit to censorship, a Google exec thinks the Kavanaugh confirmation means we should abolish the Senate (you got your 17th amendment and it still didn't help, doofus), Gallup's new poll has the media and politicians in the toilet with the public, an NBC "reporter" doesn't get the response he thought he would from millennials, and a good piece about how the NY Times used love the President's father, until...

On to politics where PDT warns about the consequence of electing Dems, things are looking up for GOP House candidates in Ohio, SCOTUS ruling spells trouble for Heitkamp, Sheldon Whorehouse gets gassed in a debate, NY Dem Dov Hiking not thrilled with Chubby Jello-Brain embracing the Hamas Louse, Krysten Sinema is a disgrace, Brian Schatz is desperate for youth votes, Rush reads between the lines of a Politico story meant to depress GOP voters, Teamster bosses do a bad end zone dance in PA, and a now ex Never-Trumper has seen the light.

In Amnesty and Immigration, PDT calls Dem immigration policy "lethal," Kevin McCarthy is introducing a border wall funding bill, Paul Ryno is a chutzpadik momzer, Corey Stewart draws heat in VA for a pro-ICE rally and another future Democrat illegal alien is sentenced for kiddie porn.

Hey, guess who's back; it's Shaved Guevara whoring for some camera time and belching up drivel, and Wells Fargo is bucking the other big banks and giving Ruger a big loan.

Domestically, McConnell is being urged to go 24/7 to ram through nominees and two have finally been confirmed as assistant A'sG, IBD say nix to ethanol subsidies (meh, we need Grassley happy), they also identify what is obvious about where the shit-holes are in the US and who runs them, the administration is gunning for Chicago's PD consent decree, and the case for breaking up Amazon.

Internationally, in the wake of Nikki Haley's announcement that she's ankling her slot at the UN we look at possible replacements, is the administration caving on Iran oil exports, Stephen Harper sez the US made out well on USMCA, the Saudis might have executed that dissident, and Thailand's military junta loves free elections... as long as they win them.

From hither and yon. Daniel Greenfield on the Left circling the Soros wagon, notes on the Kanye/PDT Diet Coke summit, Prager on the Left's war to destroy our culture and several pieces on FemiNazism, including an outstanding one from FrontPage Mag comparing and contrasting "Bridie Murphy" Ford with a Nobel Peace Prize winning Yazidi woman.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

12 ftl - Saw that story about Exxon - giving money to something headed by Trent Lott, the original corrupticrat. Looking at the people who are in on that , it's all of the Bush families GOP-e pals getting together for one last round of graft. The good part is that they're all going to be fighting each other so much to see who can grab the most cash that they'll never actually get anything accomplished. (what the Bushes were best at)

As for Exxon - stupid move, but they have the luxury of throwing money at problems to make them go away and quit bothering them. It's hard to wrap our minds around how much cash they bring in, I remember running some numbers for another net post once, and was astounded. What does $1 million mean to Exxon?

Exxon brings in $1 million in revenue EVERY 5 seconds. Seriously. Over $1 billion every single day.

The Democrats have gone insane over Kavanaugh because he halts their steadfast hold on SCOTUS that they have had since FDR. They have already lost on the Oval Office and the House, and the Senate is a tossup what with all the RINOs and DIABLOs. They are dead if they lose SCOTUS.

28 On the news...possible Haley replacement is Dina Powell. IIRC, she is BFFs with Valerie Jarrett and there were significantly fewer WH leaks after she quietly resigned from the NSC. In fact, I think she left after one of those blockbuster leaks that turned out to be untrue (i.e. a planted story to find out who was leaking).

However, think Dina Powell is friendly with Jared and Ivanka, which might explain why her name is being floated. Don't do it, Trump!!

35 The left does not wish to co-exist with the right in this country; they wish to extinguish them.

I still find it hard to believe this is news to many. Or even a moment of clarity. Do people not read older authors? All sorts - not all of them on our side, and covering a wide spectrum of "the right" - have been saying this for ages. This quote brought to mind, along with my standards, Parkinson's Left Luggage.

Back when I was young, and NR was conservative, it was simply common knowledge. I do worry about how much younger people have been isolated from earlier thought. Lewis compared it with cutting off a unit from others which might reinforce it. But he had in mind much older works; nowadays "ancient" seems to mean the 70s or earlier.

41 As much as I will miss seeing her photos I am glad Nikki Haley is leaving the administration. She's always made pretty clear she wants to cut deals with Democrats and she's far more comfortable confronting UN scum than Democrats. I think you have to be equally willing to go after both.

She is smart enough to change her views, though, and I hope she does. If she goes after a few Democrats or fascist shibboleths, I'll revise my views. But, until then, I am not sad to see her moving on.

Senate candidate Mitt Romney, in a Utah debate Tuesday night, criticized the Trump administration's zero-tolerance immigration policy that led to the separation of families at the border, calling it "a heartbreak" and "a dark chapter in American history."

"This is inexcusable and can't go on," Romney said.

Left out of the Amazon story is the news that those who now get the $15 minimum are losing incentive pay tied to performance and stock options. (Going from memory here.) The $15 minimum is a net cut in pay.

And I'm not sure how you 'break up' Amazon. (Or Google or Facebook, or any other social media.) Limit the categories of items Amazon can offer? Limit the states Amazon can serve? Force Bezos to divest holdings unrelated to online retail like the Washington Post? Force Amazon to divest itself of its distribution system?

    How do you justify that?

Fenelon, the need for TinyUrl is when a long link is going to blow the margins (this prehistoric blog software) that will wrap text but not urls and other long strings somehow.

If the link is short enough you can past it in. In some cases like the Daily Mail, they have this unique article ID string and you can just truncate the rest of the url.

The AP site was like that as well, with a unique ID string, but it was still too long looking when I pasted it. So TinyUrl it was.

    156 Good morning.

    Thank you JJ!

It's frustrating...no, that isn't the right word, but whatever...that America lost the common ideals that were in place when I was growing up. Yeah, nostalgia colors one's memories, true, but I don't think that's the case here. There were always disagreements but until relatively recently we always had a common bond with the people we disagreed with. Yes, there were policy differences but at the end of the day we could generally agree that fascism was bad, Nazis needed to be stopped, Japanese imperialism was bad, communism should not be permitted to have global influence, and so on.

Maybe not THAT recently - after all, looking through Woodrow Wilson's presidency I'm left thinking that he planted the seeds that left FDR the freedom to demonize Hoover and change the fundamental assumptions that Americans had inre the relationship between citizen and government. And certainly there was a lot of help, from academia and the media, even back then.

Bottom line - something a small but vocal minority had been worried about is starting to look more and more realistic, despite years of media-driven pop culture writing them all off as conspiracy-minded loons.

Never in my history did I ever think I'd have to argue with other Americans over something as fundamental as individual freedom and the need to fight against power-mad tyrants. But here we are.

    Sigh.

"We have institutionalized a regressive corporate tax structure at the hands of our idolatry of innovators and Amazon"

Yep, its all about the Government getting their vig. Not about the nearly 2000% increase in shareholder value (which is important to pension and retirement funds)

with state and local governments promising tax breaks that would starge funding for schools, police and fire departments

Again, when it comes to taxes, the Left just has to drag in the unholy Trinity of Government Programs "Skoolz", The Man, and fire fighters. When the Left isn't trying to destroy education, gun down cops, and have the fire department run environmental operations, they know that the fools still paying taxes care about these things. Bringing them in isn't about persuading the Left, it is to manipulate and guilt the Normals.

What is bothersome is that somehow a tax beak is paid for by gutting government programs. How is "paying no property tax" the equivalent of looting the public coffers? And why isn't this standard applied to Sanctuary Cities who have already gone ahead and plundered the tax payers to extend the welfare state to illegal aliens and other assorted criminals?

I guess, the employment and the revenue gathered up by a growing high income workforce doesn't count - the engineers, lawyers and other professionals are expected to live in the suburbs, spend their money in the suburbs and just abuse the transportation system of the host city.

Maybe that explains the cognitive dissonance of why so many cities are competing for an extension of the Bezos Empire.

(most likely the pols are seeing the potential for grift and bribery)

who now get the $15 minimum are losing incentive pay tied to performance
and stock options. (Going from memory here.) The $15 minimum is a net
    cut in pay.

And I'm not sure how you 'break up' Amazon. (Or Google or Facebook,
or any other social media.) Limit the categories of items Amazon can
offer? Limit the states Amazon can serve? Force Bezos to divest holdings
unrelated to online retail like the Washington Post? Force Amazon to
divest itself of its distribution system?

    How do you justify that?

Posted by: Sumat Naandur at October 10, 2018 07:54 AM

    ---

Correct, there is no way to justify breaking up amazon.

Fact is Walmart dwarfs amazon in actual retail sales by an order of magnitude and Walmart sets the National price for nearly everything they carry in their stores.

If anything needs to be broken up it is Walmart.

But Shapiro couldn't bring himself to say "fake news media." Second, we've reach the point where it is inescapable fact that the media omits, subverts, lies, incites violence and has totally corrupted national discourse. Start by forcing them to spin off Android, which has market share somewhere about 90%. This takes away a massive amount of their data mining ability, and decreases their leverage on all the other stuff.

255 I've voiced it before, but I suspect the switch to
ethanol has cost the economy lots, LOTS more in wasted fuel and lost
productivity due to diagnosing problems, draining fluids, disposing of
fluids, producing new parts, producing packaging for new parts, shipping
new parts, driving to get new parts, disposing of old parts, etc.

I'd bet $5 that we've ended up using more fuel than before.

I'm comfortable with baby steps right now. You don't necessarily have to switch to Linux (although Mint is very user friendly), but if you're on windows use Waterfox as your browser and qwant or duckduckgo (or even bing) as your search engine. My favorite add on is adnauseum:

    "Built atop uBlock Origin, AdNauseam
quietly clicks on every blocked ad, registering a visit on ad networks'
databases. As the collected data gathered shows an omnivorous click-stream, user
tracking, targeting and surveillance become futile."

The phone is a mixed bag, but turn off your GPS when you're not using it and use another browser and you'll put a dent in what they're tracking. You can mess with them, too. Sign up for Google Rewards and they'll pay you to answer survey questions. Don't lie on the "have you visited" or "did you stay at" kind of questions because they weed out users that way. Answer honestly to get into the surveys, then pretend to be someone you're not. I'm a hyper-green lib who shops for electric vehicles and rides Xher bike 200 miles a month. They'll pay you money in the form of play store credits to mess up their algorithms for them.

And stop using gmail for routine stuff. Switch to mailfence or protonmail instead.

The condo we rented could, if the management decided so, cut power to the building without notifying residents and guests. Lastly, the 4 foot storm surge forecast at our location would have put my truck in 4 feet of water.

305 I don't believe these are bad assumptions. CNN
isn't looking to put out a scientific opinion poll, as if such a thing
were possible anyway (lots of problems with basically a self-selecting
    sample, for one).

No, they are intentionally doing this, mainly to try and drive the
election outcome by creating an illusion. They know the sample is
garbage, but that's by design because they want the results to say a
    certain thing.

Posted by: WitchDoktor, AKA VA GOP Sucks at October 10, 2018 09:01 AM

They are doing the exact same thing they did in 2016, weighting the samples on what they want the electorate to be come November.

The issue for them is that the electorate they want is not going to be the one that actually shows up at the polls and they will gets smacked down exactly like they did when Trump won.

314 I think the biggest danger from the fraudulent polls like the one put-out by Fake News CNN today is that it scares the perpetually skittish folks at the NRCC into dropping-out of still win-able races like they've already done in (I believe) KS, TX and PA.

The NRCC has all the money they need to stay competitive in those races but polls like this convince them the sky is falling and they panic - making the "sky is falling" far more likely.

319 "Every single thing is now different"

JJ, how near to truth that is. If it was a question on a T/F test, I'd circle T; that close to truth. Over about a 10 year time frame here are a number of shibboleths lying in the dust.

    1. Polls. We have now seen case after case of horribly unreliable polls, push polls, etc; frankly no one puts much faith in them anymore.
    2. Big media. Their veneer of respectability has shattered like a diced onion.
    3. Money in politics. The rule used to be money = votes; lots more money meant bigger margins of victory. And if we have one big thing to fret about in this 'possible blue wave' election, it's the amount of dark money pouring into House races. Mainly on the Dem side, to be sure. But on either side, we've seen ideology (positions) swamp money as the best indicator of success.
    4. Civility. It may come back some day, after the ashes and bones settle. Bare knuckles fist fighting was pushed underground for years, but has recently resurfaced as a legit 'sport' -- Sign of the times.
    5. Expectations from our elected officials. Here I'm going to 100% credit The Donald. You better say what you mean, and mean what you say, or you won't be in office long. Blowing smoke up the electorate's ass is not a long term viable political career. This one is my favorite. No seat is safe.

I'm sure there are others but I'm reaching tl;dr territory.

320 BTW, Ed Morrissey's show yesterday is well worth listening to. (I know, I know.) You can skip the first half, but the second, with Hilton discussing Positive Populism, is very good.

The latest Free Beacon podcast at Ricochet is good too. Continenti seems to be moving away from his (legal*) father-in-law, and the other two are solid. Ricochet is funny. Most of the podcasts are by complete pussy-boys (Nordlinger and Goldberg seem to have about 5 shows apiece), but the articles are better, and the comments are mostly sound. Is this too much winning? Nope.

There's a difference between someone going postal after seeing someone say their opponents policies are crap or someone else says they are targeting this or that district; (you are correct in this case)

..and someone going postal after someone says their opponents are Nazi's, rapists and rapist apologists, and want your children to die in a blaze of gunfire, and everyone else to die from the boiling of the planet. And then follow it up with, 'we've got to do something, get ruthless and in their face, and don't forget to bring a gun in case a knife fight breaks out', and then they say violent protesters are just kids being kids speaking out.

The second group are culpable because they are seeking to induce a predictable violent reaction from some dedicated progressive psychotic of which they know there are plenty in their movement not to mention their social circle.

Apparently they found some serious drugs at his place?

I'm interested in how much information on Congressmen and their families he acquired as well as details on the fellowship that placed him on the Hill.

Think the lack of details on that so far is telling, just not sure who is suppressing it, the MSM or the authorities. My suspicion is that he is tied to all sorts of Democrats (beyond what's been reported) as well as activist organizations.

I can only imagine how many threats to Congressmen and their families during the Kavanaugh nomination we haven't heard about, too.

Well it wasn't a surprise for sure. I just hope he doesn't allow 15% to become the new standard. If a gas station wants to put in some E15 pumps, I don't care. If E15 replaces E10 fully, that will suck big time.

With hurricanes, it's not really the large objects--if cars are airborne, that's a tornado, which is a different kind of bad--it's the small objects propelled at high velocity that do the damage. And there are a LOT of small objects in play with a Cat 4.

There's a good reason they tell you to get everything inside and off the deck and lawn. Hurricanes sending full propane tanks flying are no picnic.
