CNN: Accusing Someone of Gang Rape is Just Regular Political Wrasslin', Says Former Obama Aide Jim Sciutto

Meanwhile, a "journalist" who gets drunk on TV every New Years Eve has a "reporter" on to gossip like galpalz about Kavanaugh's drinking in college.

28 So let's get this straight:
Sexual assault is an egregious terrible thing that any accusation of must always be believed and even the most minor hint of should disqualify a man with a lifetime of service from all the activities he most enjoys and most validate him.
Also, accusing a man of sexual assault is just politics as usual and no one should react defensively or with anger when so accused.

I think it's starting to dawn on some of the less dense members of the left that they have gone way too far. As bad as the phony personal attacks on Kavanaugh have been their attack on core American values like innocent until proven guilty have shaken and galvanized many on the right.

They threw away any advantage they had in the midterms if the Republicans are smart enough to harness this energy.

CNN Morning Crew Cries 'Sham Investigation', 'Bad for FBI'

CNN's New Day crew is doing its best to undermine the FBI's latest investigation of Brett Kavanaugh, thus giving cover to wobbly senators considering a 'no' vote.

On CNN this morning, host John Berman suggested that it was a "sham investigation." A bit later, Alisyn Camerota shed crocodile tears, fretting that the supposedly inadequate investigation could be "bad for the FBI."

https://tinyurl.com/y85leyes

video at link

Most telling about CNN's bias was Berman's claim that "The Washington Post" has raised the possibility that this was a "sham investigation." I Googled "Washington Post sham investigation," and came up with three items.

1 An article that includes a tweet from Susan Hennessey, a former Obama appointee, speaking of a "sham investigation." This same appointee has offered advice to colleagues who view President Trump as a "dangerous threat."

2 An article reporting that Democrats "countered that the FBI's investigation seemed to be a sham."

3 Finally, and most hilariously, an opinion column by that consummate Trump hater, Jennifer Rubin, who wrote that "Flake and the rest of us will have every reason to think the investigation was a sham."

In other words, "The Washington Post" itself never suggested the investigation was a sham. But that didn't stop Berman from falsely claiming it did. All's fair in the liberal media to bring down the FBI investigation -- and Kavanaugh.

132 To JamesMadison from the previous thread,
510,
The deal on polling is landlines and cell phones. The old model used landlines where the address, name, etc. could be reasonably determined and people used to answer the phone. Thus, random digit dialing often presented a pretty reliable sample.

This lasted up until the cheap telecom revolution where a deluge of spam calls began and response rates began to drop like a rock. An increasing number of people also went unlisted. Landlines were useful for all sorts of reasons and area code sorting worked to determine whether or not they were in the district polled. It was also easy to conduct cross checks on likely voter screenings due to a known name and address which allows cross checks to voter history files. This world is now largely gone. For that reason, Gallup got out of the presidential race polling due to their outdated model.

Cell phone non-response started out as higher due to the old way that you were charged per call. Then, people started moving with cellphones but keeping their original cellphone number including area codes. Now, with Random digit dialing, you don't know where these voters might vote and makes it difficult to check on likely voter status. Screening questions help but people lie as claiming to vote is a socially acceptable answer. The Univ. of Michigan NES (national election survey) which is conducted post election has got to ridiculous levels of people claiming that they voted but did not (15-20 percent the last I checked). Adding screening questions helps but each additional question increases non-response or partial responses where people just hang up. Due to phone scams etc. and even cruise ship stuff posing as polls, non-response is a very serious issue.

To compound problems, young people do not use the phone like old folks--texting and other means serve for that. Furthermore, to make sure that you have an accurate sample of the electorate, you are often required to oversample groups such as blacks, hispanics, very young voters 18-24, to have any information about voting and correct your sample for the expected partisanship of the district/state. You should also triangulate to determine from valid statistical models who is likely to vote and be able to ask enough questions to determine that. Voter intensity is still not well measured in polling. The smaller the district, the worse the polling problem is to get a adequate sized likely voter sample to correctly estimate the district. That means expensive as you have to survey a much larger number of people to make sure that the composition of likely voters is correct. It is a bit easier on state level and the easiest on the national level.

The secret sauce that each pollster uses to determine likely voters is basically their guess on the likely voter based on their survey screening questions. Last that I checked, registered voter lists average about a five point Dem advantage in polling and all adults somewhat over that. The likely voter screening then has to determine which Dems get to the polls--this is why the Dems have went to identity politics and the politics of outrage in order to motivate their voters to the polls instead of policies. The problem is that outrage gets exhausting and you have to keep ramping it up and it risks inflaming the opposite party's voters. At some point, the perpetual sky is falling schtick fails to motivate particularly if there is a lack of success. If the voters in 2018 give a good slap in the face to Dems in the election, then the more reasonable Dems might tone it down. For the health of the polity, we need a red wave in 2018.

191 Regarding the BM59, unless you are getting the NFA select fire genuine deal, uses a converted Garand receiver with very expensive magazines that are made of unobtanium (about 50 bucks or more per). You should also get certain conversion parts such as an additional op rod etc. while they are available. It may or may not have collectors cachet in the future on the conversions but will probably not have top notch accuracy depending on the skill of who did the conversion.

The M1A sold by Springfield Armory, is a mature design, parts are around including cheap magazines, and it is a very accurate rifle. Won't get much price appreciation due to Springfield Armory still making them.

As a shooter, get the M1A, as a potential collectible, the BM59.

The problem is that outrage gets exhausting and you have to keep ramping it up and it risks inflaming the opposite party's voters. 263 I'm anxious to see the long-term implications of the Senate outsourcing its advise and consent role back to the same branch of government that nominates people in the first place. Will FBI "investigations" now play a primary role in nomination games? If so, can will FBI reports be required to hand in before nomination? This of course has been done, but not at the same level - always behind the scenes. What power does this now give the FBI over nominations?

The left clearly hasn't thought through these long-term implications, and I'm not sure the right has either. You have to fight the battle in front of you, but this has certainly changed how future nomination battles will go.

I've been saying for the longest time--and so far I've been wrong--that given that most of these people are glorified throne-sniffers, there has to come a point where most of the NeverTrumpers are going to have to realize that Trump owns the throne and that it would behoove them (and their careers) to "come home." The fact that the Left is almost thoroughy bankrupt should speed this process.

Now some. like Captain Krystol, are too far gone. But others are going to start saying nice things about Trump's performance--if not him personally.

326 In 7th grade Kavanaugh asked a girl if she was the president of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee.

It was in the 7th grade that Kavanaugh was first introduced to the complex legal doctrine of "I am rubber you are glue. Anything you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

He was going to invoke it during the hearings, but thought better of it since the are Democrats who have no problem with their own raping or drinking.

328 Ace, a little off topic but not really.

Did you see the Bret Stephens piece?

I think he's trying to get out of the quick-dungsand by barely struggling. I'm not in favor of sending him any kind of rope, not to save and not to hang. Just let granularity of the ordure and the reek he now finds dreadful engulf him.

No true Never Trumper can get back in; that's a categorical imperative.

And last but not least: no more cheap heads. No more Goldbergs or Allahpundits or Frums or Wills or Boots or Stephens (as mentioned above) ever again.

They gained us not one vote. They are superficial hacks.

Promise me (or not as it's your site and your time) you'll write one of your fine pieces on the true cost of Cheap Heads. No need to mention hair-hats if that seems beneath us.

That's a possibility, but I think the absence of new allegations over the weekend was telling. The Left could have drummed something up, but they didn't. It's over and they lost the public battle and they know it. If something like this were to happen, it would be a game changer, but I think the calm over the weekend was an indicator that they're kaput on this front and know it.

The Reds have taken the same message to heart. They now require applicants for faculty positions to submit essays detailing their support for LGBTQEIEIO and other communist initiatives. It's a great way to make sure conservatives don't want to be on the faculty.

Well, I'm out of ideas.

I'm that way with 30-06, btw. I bought a 110 20-ish years ago right when the accutrigger came out and loved it. I'm definitely the weak link in the equation when we take it to the range.

I like the Savage's trigger and overall quality, especially for the price.

I don't love the bolt though and that's kind of important to me.

I remember the day she testified that she'd never expressed an opinion on the constitutionality of the Obamacare legislation while she was Obama's Solicitor General.

I also remember the day her e-mails revealed she'd perjured herself in her testimony.

475 369,
On convergence of religion,
it is about the money and power. For example, refugee sponsorships brought in money so you get Russell Moore. The idea of a mega church with all kinds of services also has the idea of increased numbers but to achieve that you have to dilute the message or you have unhappy "customers". Pastors' salaries are often dependent on size of congregation and the number of additional paid church administrators. Large contributors in money to churches often call the shots as deacons or board members rather than the honest and upright. Large churches also attract those trying to sell their products--insurance, lawyers, etc. to church audiences as they pose as trustworthy members of the congregation. Debt to build a bigger church to attract more members also tends to dilute church adherence to doctrine.

Summation, money and power corrupts.

Find a little country church with a part time pastor, you might just find a bit more focus on doctrine, a authentic church community, and genuine worship. That has been my experience anyway.

That sidebar piece about China's hardware hacking is crazy bad news.

We really need to figure out how to manufacture electronics in the USA again.
Posted by: TexasDan at October 04, 2018 01:17 PM (yL25O)

We can design and manufacture electronics just fine in the US. The only reason the Chinese manufacture so much of it is price. The ONLY reason. Slave labor smooths out a lot of manufacturing problems.

The reporter has no knowledge of 'state dependent learning' then. Say you need amphetamine to stay awake and study. The amphetamine wears off you take a test and bomb it. Go back to the dorm, pop a pill, and the knowledge is there again.

Same thing would apply to alcohol. Someone who is first in the class would have two choices; drink a lot, all during the day and night, even during classes and tests, or practice more restrained drinking.

This. I remember our Thermodynamics section of Physics. No idea of how to do partial differential equations. I was just learning how to integrate (x + e^x) dx.

I sat down in the library from 5:00 to closing at 9:00 (state college) with my classmates. I finally got it about 8 and whipped through all the exercises. I went out drinking with friends until close.

Next morning at 8 for the test, I was hungover-hung over. Get test, look at test dumbfounded for ten minutes. Close my eyes, the room spins. Suddenly I remember it all. Whip through the test in twenty minutes, first to finish. Dash to Lav and rallllph!

Got a 98.

Every new remington I have owned, checked, gone through has major mating issues between the action and barrel.

Almost impossible to get one shooting right without removing the barrel and mating it to the receiver properly. "
If you have the cash, there is a whole new generation of custom Rem 700 clone actions that accept barrels with the Savage thread pattern and any number of barrel nut options. They start at about 800-1000 bucks.

Some can have shouldered barrels spun up by a competent smith sight-unseen because the manufacturing is held to such tight standards, unlike old school actions. You can also get barrel nuts that allow you, with just a headspace gauge, to barrel and headspace an action without needing an action wrench or any sort of vise.
Being able to rebarrel an action like that at home is a big deal when it comes to the proliferation of precision setups; you don't have to send in an action and wait 6-12 months anymore.
