Yeah it used to hurt a news organization and the reporter who pulled this stunt quite a bit.
Now its so regular and common that it hardly excites any real notice. Its almost daily that at least one news group prints something outrageously false or wrong. And if they aren't doing that, they're printing rumors and unsubstantiated anonymous tips. That kind of crap did not float back even 20 years ago, they required something to back it up and make it NEWS, not just rumors.

Think it was in a recent Scott Adams video he mentioned that memory remembers the initial information more readily than the later correction.
If you look at how the MSM has been covering Trump since the election they use a technique, again and again, that caters to this characteristic of memory: tweet or post an incendiary story, let it sit out on the internet for a few hours/be repeated for a couple of hourly news summaries, and *then* correct it. They know that people will remember the false story not the correction, or maybe never even see the correction.
This is very intentional. Much worse than laziness or innocent misreporting.

Its the same deal with how its easier to get someone to believe a lie than get them to admit it was one.
In the first places its just a mental exercise. In the second, ego gets in the way, nobody likes to admit they are wrong, even people like me who have a lot of practice at it.
NPR (don't ask) was saying yesterday that Trump never wanted to win. He didn't even have a "victory speech" prepared.
They're probably right to this degree: I don't think he really expected to win, but he rarely prepares any speech for any occasion beyond some points he wants to hit.

I think they went all in on Kav because of his textualist view of the Constitution, and the fact that they realize his sitting on SCOTUS will wreck their strategy of running to the courts to get things done that they cannot legislatively. The precedents Kav would help set would haunt them forever.

He saw very little difference between the big/establishment media here and the party-run apparatus in the USSR.
The real difference between the USSR and the USA, as far as he was concerned, is that dissenters couldn't be shot or imprisoned. So we have a flourishing, if relatively small, opposition media.

You can not compare the Republican and Democrat Parties of the 1850s to the ones we have now. The Democrat party had split around that time frame into two separate wings. There were the Southern Democrats who wanted the South to just be left alone by the radical abolitionists in the NE (mostly MA) and the Northern Democrats who called themselves copperheads who were the more traditional Democrat-Republicans of the Jackson era. The Republican Party was brand spanking new and their main goal was restricting the spread of slavery and eventually eliminating it.

I still don't think President Trump has any great love for movement conservatism (nor should he, given their treachery). Most of his trade policies are anathema to the old Bush Republicans, he supports the evangelical movement but they don't control him, and his foreign policy isn't terribly partisan unless you're a national of China or Iran. Excepting the tax cuts, Bill Clinton could have easily adopted these policies and set course for decades of political dominance.
The Democrats had to personally destroy him because his policies were tailor made to poach from their base. Once that failed, and his successes became unquestioned, they needed to step back and regroup. Instead, they plan the same playbook that lost them 2016, only with terrorism added.
I genuinely think Trump is setting up his own dynasty. Preferably based on merit, but who knows? You'd need a lot of accomplishments to beat out a Trump in 2024 now.

Yes. But the call went out "all hands on deck" (no pun intended) and everyone took that as "everything." Enter Rameriez, Avenatti, etc. This is a classic case of "law of unintended consequences."
Now DiFi might get re-elected, at least I think her chances are better than 2 weeks ago. But accusers 2 - Nth just messed up accuser #1. Because as fast as their stories fall apart, holes in Ford's story forces at least talk of Ford's story and it inconsistencies.
Bottom line is: This was put out there with the full expectation of Kavanaugh withdrawing or Trump pulling his nomination. When this didn't happen within 2 days of Ford's accusation, well, that's how we got here.

Ditto for me. Junior High School was a *terrible* invention - and fairly recent. Breaking out students from the relative stability of the K-8 and 9-19 (or K-7/8-12, depending) and lumping the ones with the least rationality, focus and discipline into their own sequestered territory with basically no checks on behavior was one of the stupidest decisions our betters in Big Ed every came up with.

The way polling works, I believe, is that a firm decides on a model of the electorate early and has to stick with it through the whole series. If they change it from one to the next, successive polls can't be compared against each other.
So, the firms decided early that Democrats would turn out in greater numbers than Republicans because that's what Republicans did when Obama was in office.
That assumption felt wrong from the start, but was held up for a while because enthusiasm numbers tilted towards Democrats for months.
However, as we got closer to the election, those numbers are suddenly shifting drastically, making it obvious that the original assumptions were wrong. However, the firms can't change things because then they'll invalidate their entire series up to that point, making their new polls suspect.
That's my read of the situation, at least.
Just don't try to unskew the polls. It just increases the margin for error, undercutting any desire for increased accuracy.

A trio of concerned academics has published seven intentionally absurd papers in leading scholarly journals, making bizarre recommendations including chaining up children and keeping men on leashes.
The trio say the papers, which used fabricated authors and credentials, are an attempt to expose political bias in fields that study race, gender and sexuality, which they see as being misled by biased research and poor methodology.
Their papers argued for a slew of bewildering positions, including chaining up privileged school children as an educational opportunity and a push to include "fat bodybuilding" in professional bodybuilding competitions as a way to nullify fat shaming.
Another paper rewrote a chapter of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf, replacing parts of Hitler's political manifesto with terms including "solidarity allyship", "neo-liberal feminism" and "multi-variate matrix of domination".
Each of the papers were peer-reviewed before being published, meaning they passed the highest level of critical assessment in their fields.
The trio went public with the project after The Wall Street Journal uncovered it, saying a paper which claimed dog parks are 'petri dishes for canine "rape culture'" was ridiculous enough to pique the publication's interest.
