Flake Is Playing the GOP: He's Demanding the GOP Placate the Strategically Implacable Ford, While Simultaneously Planning to Vote "Present" on Kavanaugh

We are bending over backwards to accommodate this cuck, who's trying to get a high-paying analyst gig at CNN or MSNBC and could surely use some liberal appreciation to get his salary as high as possible, while he demands that we endlessly give in to Ford's delaying tactics...

And now we find out his vote is ungettable -- he's already decided to give the GOP one last knife in the back:

A friend says we can't even subpoena Ford, because we need a majority of votes for that, and the quisling cuck Flake will not vote in favor of it.

He's deliberately sabotaging the GOP -- as liberal cucks do.

And then their fellow liberals whine and howl when we attempt to primary these guys out of the party.

Another friend has been saying for some time: "The fake-conservative cucks are the Defeat Mechanism of conservatism." It is only because we permit liberals to obtain positions of power within an ostensibly conservative party that we are forever in this position of having to win over liberal votes in our own fucking "conservative" party.

And of course people like Flake, Corker, Murkowski, and before them, the original backstabbing "maverick" McCain, are always there to drive the knife in our backs at the most critical moments.

I don't want to hear another goddamn word from the cucks about the danger of primarying people who are plainly on the other side.

And notice the cucks get the most excited by the most liberal Republican candidates possible -- Sasse, Gardiner, etc. They always shriek in horror when real conservative candidates are running.

Chess thread below. I don't mean to stomp it but this is big news.

48 Questions that I'd like an answer to that no journalist is asking. Ford is working with the activist that prepped Anita Hill for her testimony. How long has that been going on? When did she hire activist lawyer Katz? I saw one report (or rumor) that it was Ford herself that made an anonymous tip to the WaPo tip line in July, about the same time that ChiDiFi got the letter. Why, exactly, won't ChiFiDi release the original letter. Another unsubstantiated claim is that Ford's husband had a hand in pointing the finger at Kavanaugh in 2012 because he said that Brett could be appointed to the SC and needed to be stopped. If true, why wait until now?

Posted by: Old Blue at September 22, 2018 06:05 PM (gEvQ8)

49 Is that what they did with Thomas?

I thought he was voted out. The committee has 4 options: recommend in favor, recommend against, no recommendation, or take no action. The last one is the one they Democrats want because then McConnell has to pry it out of the committee with as discharge petition, or, I think, he has to wait a day to put it on the calendar.

71 Also what this travesty and fiasco starkly illustrates is that the GOP will not defend, will not protect, will not shield from slander or humiliation any of it's candidates or nominees.

GOP nominees will have to go through the gauntlet if they want to get on the SCOTUS.

What it also does is set a precedent that vague, uncorroborated, unsubstantiated, impossible to verify, impossible to defend charges can be leveled against a nominee and taken seriously at the denouement of what has become an increasingly embarrassing, disorganized freak show and nightmare of a SCOTUS confirmation process.

WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THIS WOMAN IS.

Literally anybody can come striding into the committee room at this point and say they are the accuser and who the fuck except the forces of evil and satan would know the difference.

The key bit of info to me was that Whelan (and thus the WH) apparently knows the identity of the second girl, because he had the house on the map. Ford has not asked for her testimony - only for Judge, which Grassley has denied.

The question that needs to be answered is why they are accommodating her and allowing her to appear at all to slander and humiliate the GOP nominee?

They have not seen the full, unredacted letter Ford provided to her representative and ChiDi leaked to the press, they have not spoken to her, they do not have a biography of her, they do not have a more fully, contemporaneous and sworn complaint against the accused.

In short, they have allowed themselves to be bullied and muscled into potentially derailing the nomination.

This is not a fucking game, this is not a joke, a very good man and his family are being dragged through the mud and allowed to be slandered be the forces of evil and satan.

This should be the crowning achievement of this mans life instead the GOP has allowed it to become a nightmare.

Hmmm, interesting. It's been my theory that Ford actually was sexually molested by someone in her childhood, although I don't believe for a moment that it was Kavanaugh.

Her extreme promiscuity in college, with a reported 60+ sex partners, suggests something went very wrong with this woman earlier in her life. And it's unlikely that it was some brief drunken groping from a high school boy. Seems more likely that she was sexually betrayed by somebody she trusted, somebody like say, a family member.

Then let him get in front of the same committee, and, as they say, have his day in court.

Let's see how her story looks after that.

Either she's credible and he isn't, and he's sunk. Or she's not credible and he is, and either the Senate sinks him because they're useless, or we start calling him Associate Justice from now on.

My belief, if this country IS salvageable, and I'm not sure it is, the outcome of all this is either he gets his seat, or the politics starts sorting itself out in a way that allows us to stop screwing around anymore.

Guys, I hate to be the Ghost of Christmas Past, but ever since BJ Clinton said, "It depends on what the meaning of is is", no one has really given a ahit about what the rules are. Just as an example:

Eric Holder is ruled in contempt of Congress. What happened to that POS/POC? Nothing.

The gay mulatto used tax payer dollars to bail out private pension funds, doled out $800 billion for "shovel ready" jobs that didn't exist and the money was siphoned off to who knows where, his administration sued to stop States from enforcing immigration law because the Federal government wouldn't, forced through a whole host of unconstitutional Executive Orders, plus scandals ad infinitum. What has happened to him? Nothing. Except he got rich as shit.

Cankles destroyed Benghazi and got Americans killed due to her stand-down orders.....let's just stop there. She and her husband should have been shot numerous times. What happened to her? Nothing.

I don't understand why some mental health experts aren't speaking up. This woman's extreme reaction to this nearly 40-year old drunken teenage grope is so over the top that it's obvious that's not the real issue with her.

No normal woman behaves this way. The WaPo is now reporting that this woman was considering moving to New Zealand because she couldn't bear the thought of living in the U.S. if Kavanaugh was on the Supreme Court. In her faux "negotiations" with the senate, she has been adamant that she never be in the same room with Kavanaugh, as she would feel "unsafe."

Seriously? Even if we believe her story, what in the world would make her think that Kavanaugh would be any type of threat to her now? It's nearly 40 years after the alleged attack, which was just a drunken teenage grope, and Kavanaugh is a married-with-kids judge with a spotless record. Does this lunatic woman really believe that Kavanaugh has been lusting after her for the past 3-1/2 decades, just waiting for his chance to get in the same room with her so he can jump her bones? That's idiotic, and a sane woman would instantly recognize that.

This woman has serious mental issues, but Kavanaugh is not the cause of them.

This is what her legal team is demanding now.

Of course, because "we have to be nice and not look bad" the GOP walks right off the cliff, again.

If no other evidence or witnesses emerge (and why would it/they now) and D's win the Senate in November, they probably impact Kavanaugh from his current position as well based solely on the accusation. My pet theory is more plausible IMO. The party was made up, and Judge was included to corroborate it, exactly because he's a confessed HS blackout drunk who couldn't deny Ford's fabrications. Kav can go to the full Senate with various kinds of recos, or none, as some have explained. All that matters is the floor vote.

On that, it would be very surprising if there are no Dem "yes" votes. There are several who would be taking a big risk with a "no" (McKaskill's "no" almost surely reflects her need to go for broke with base enthusiasm, as she's firmly behind and there's nothing out there likely to change that).

And Pence breaks any ties.

SCOTUS issue was, for the first time, material to presidential voting last cycle. Primarily for Trump voters. Tester et al cannot be happy about any of this. It raises the profile tremendously on the vote, and eliminates their already-negligible wiggle room.

I agree. It's better to lose elections with genuinely conservative candidates than win them with 5th Columners.
And that's not just because then we don't get sabotaged.
It's also because then the GOPe will eventually come to recognize that they will forever be just out of reach of obtaining majority power in the Congress as long as they continue to fail to cultivate and nominate viable conservative candidates.

Basically, we need to hold the GOPe's precious majority-power hostage until they ALWAYS give us decent, reliably conservative candidates to vote for.

406 Markets are better than most of us at predicting many things. It's part wisdom of crowds and virtual information cycling. But they can often be very wrong. Beauty is that they can self-correct.

The big issue in 2016 was turnout. I expected it to be very different from prior cycles, and made "unscientific" assumptions to conclude in March 2016 that Trump would get 300 to 310 EVs even if he lost the popular vote.

Turnout in 2018 won't be like any other mid-term. I'm predicting a small but still surfeable Red Wave.

Heh. There used to be some show about people with dangerous animals for pets. I remember a few where the people weren't heard from for days. You have lost at everything in your life, have you not? You apply your failure to every aspect of today's political sphere. It isn't how things work. We win. Why? Because we fight. Not every battle is won. The war continues. The next battle is the one we have to win.

Trump won. We ARE winning. But you want to concede the next battle before it is fought. No. Americans don't do that. Not since 1776. We fight. If we lose one, we win the next. THAT is America. Get with it, or GTFO.

437 So, we still don't know anything. And Judiciary has not responded, AFAIK. With respect, I don't find ace's friends' insights or those of a few twatters people with sources and connections to be of much interest in this particular situation. Actions, facts, results - those are all that matter.

And speaking of those, I would think Grassley and Co. would understand they should not be just sitting there, mute, after their twice-extended deadline was repudiated by the other side.

OK, you say, there's lots of yelling and talking and so on going on within the committee and with Mitch, etc etc. Doesn't change the point. This has got to be the worst fake smear job evah. Bumble festival the whole way.

Today's non-response was predictable, and in any case a 50% chance at minimum. Leadership should have had their response well worked out. And Flake's position wouldn't really matter - or it would be factored in. Either way, there shouldn't be this silence.

450 OK, look. I know it's "quaint" to read and follow official stuff and not immediately jump on the latest twitter rumor (though I admit I love me some Sean Davis tweets, the man's a savage), but here's the facts as they seem to be at this very moment...

1) The Senate Judiciary Committee is still, as of right now, scheduled for a 10AM business meeting on Monday. The first item on the agenda? Vote on a recommendation for the nominations of Judge K and 9 others.

2) The official Judiciary Committee position is as it was yesterday afternoon
2a) We can move the previously scheduled Monday hearing to Wednesday
2b) Ford testifies first, Judge K after
2c) Outside counsel will not dictate to the Committee who gets to ask questions
2d) Fine - Judge K can sit in another room while Ford testifies and we'll limit media coverage

3) Ford's legal team is all over the media saying "She's testifying" in big bold letters and then, in the 9th and 10th paragraphs you find out they are nowhere close to agreeing to any of the terms, above.

So that's it. Those are the facts on the ground.

Everything else - literally everything else - is rumor, speculation, gaslighting, and FUD.

I have too little hair left on my head to set it all ablaze just yet, my previous sentiments that The Flake should DIAF not withstanding.

But we should also remember that Flake alone is not to blame for this, McConnell has the power to yank him off committees and also blackball him, twist arms, etc.

So if Kavanaugh goes down over Flake, I'm holding GOP leadership responsible as it was abundantly clear to EVERYONE Flake was making everything personal and destroying the GOP agenda.

For the record, I think Kavanaugh will be confirmed, but I think liberals will have given plenty of cover to Red State Democrats to explain why they all voted no. It would have been a powerful election tool to beat them over the head with.

478 It is time for America to have a long discussion about Flake's Mormonism. To start, here are a few questions this American'd like to see answered:1. Can Utah's (and rural Arizona's for that matter) economy survive without constant tax-payer backing? (How is Mormon grange-culture like, say, indigent, inner-city welfare-ism?)
2. Do exclusionary Mormons deserve Anglo America's charity? (Can't we apply means-tests to their constant claims on our fisc?)3. Why, if Mormons are God's chosen Ones, do they require so much gib-me's from the rest of us?
4. Mormon scriptures state their followers' supremacy over the rest of America's Goyim. Why, if claims of sectarian supremacy are so bad, does the Mormon church get a pass on this document-able, institutional arrogance?5. Are Mormon judges capable of applying justice blindly given their scriptures' urgings to yield always to church doctrines?
Get answers to those questions, and I think you'll be better able to understand Flake's flakiness while serving on American, Anglo-Saxon parliamentary bodies.

I was in Arizona in July. I was in a, what I would call a fairly nice little bar. Minding my own business. Just came in for a quick drink and suddenly a man appears at my side. He oozed slime but hey, he offered to buy me a drink so I said.. sure. One for the road, right? Suddenly I felt kind of weird and light headed. He offered to drive me home. Once in the car he grabbed my boobs and stuck his hand "down there". I didn't know what to do.. I was helpless. Next day I wake up in a strange hotel and see the face of the man who molested me on the TV! It was Jeff Flake. OMG.... I think.. can this really have happened???

well... of course it COULD have happened.

Everything ace posted is correct, but as far as the mechanics of the Kav situation, we're still in the dark. All we know is what DocJ summarized.

One more thing, not really a quibble. Along with the unprecedented misbehavior we all saw in the hearings so far, the Senate Dems have pulled out all stops in ....... attacking GOP senators. It's not the norm.

You can find it various places. Pergram's twatters has a continuing stream of jaw-dropping slanders and idiocy from the likes of that pathetic little Blumenthal creature, and other loathsome stupid Dems. So far, only Cotton has responded (to ChiFi's outrageous comments).

It is a yuuge mistake for the Senate GOP to remain essentially silent in the face of this non-stop slander. (Cotton is only one to respond that I've seen so far) They should be giving back 10X what they're getting.

Would people please read the Judiciary Committee announcement?

We deplore that Dr. Ford has faced serious threats and harassment over the past week, and we will make every effort to guarantee her safety. At the same time, Judge Kavanaugh and his family, including his two young daughters, have also faced serious death threats and vicious assaults as a result of these allegations. And they're getting worse each day. Judge Kavanaugh unequivocally and categorically denied these allegations. He was willing to testify last week after the allegations were made publicly, and he already accepted our invitation to testify on Monday. It is not fair to him or to his family to allow this situation to continue without a resolution and without an opportunity for him to clear his name. Holding the hearing on Wednesday honors your request for a later hearing date while recognizing that Judge Kavanaugh is entitled to due process. It is the fairest option for both parties.

This does not give any of them "cover". It raises the profile of the vote, associates them once more with outrageous behavior that is *not* popular in their states, esp. with conservative Dems and indies, and infuriates the Trump "base" (many of them Dems and indies, in those states).

We'll see. But the idea of "cover" for the vulnerable Dems is facile and doesn't match up with political reality in those states.

Much appreciated.

Look, I find myself in a somewhat odd position in that I'm "defending" Grassley and The Process. FTR, people like Collins and The Flake are the reason I un-registered from the GOPe in 2011, seemingly for good. Came back only recently to support Trump - nothing more or less.

But I find it maddening watching people fly off the handle based on someone's tweet who is quoting "sources". Look, it's entirely plausible that The Flake is going to do everything he can to sink Judge K's nomination because he's a stupid, shallow little cuck who's auditioning for his starring role on FakeNews CNN. But we don't know that's what's' happening right now.

We'll know soon enough.

FWIW, I think this is all a gambit to try to get Ford to go public, on camera, someplace like 60-minutes. Whoever interviews her is going to try to press for some more juicy details and specifics. My hope in the gambit is the next day Judge K's lawyer calls a 09:30 presser (just before the scheduled committee vote) and basically lays out why everything Ford said the night before is BS and BOOM! drops some actual, you know, evidence (something like Kav and his family were in Florida the entire summer Ford said he was getting all handsy).

Perhaps I hope too much. I've certainly had such hopes dashed more than a couple times in the past.

For those who would surrender the battle--it is your option. But by doing so you will have conceded that you're not an American, but someone who simply lives in the country.
For those who swore that oath be aware that fulfilling it does not always mean picking up a rifle.

OUR country is under attack by a clever, determined enemy who is well entrenched. Every generation, one way or another, takes part in the struggle to keep our Republic. It isn't always as dramatic or visible.

I love this country to the point of being willing to sacrifice my life for it--and I will be damned if I will ever entertain the thought of quitting her.

I think that was the whole point all along. When they couldn't sink him in Committee, and Feinstink held the memo . . I think even she realized the "letter" really means nothing - but had to deploy to

1) fend off De Leon in Cali;

2) give red state Ds an out

3) hail mary and hoped it works to placate the far left.

I don't think even Fienstink thinks the accusations should be held against Kav, but she had no other play. It didn't "leak" - she leaked it. The think now is: if she wins, no Republican should take anything she says or does seriously and any and all committees she's on, R committee chairmen should treat her like shit.

626 Oh, the action in Iran is quite real. Occasionally been noting bricks falling into place (in the wall of renewed sanctions) for the last few weeks, here in the comments.

National strikes, open defiance/mockery of the regime, its henchmen, and its causes ("death to Hamas!").

And I also wailed in agony here when, last week, State announced it is seeking an agreement with the regime on missiles/nukes. Assuming, for my sanity, this is the thinnest of disingenuous poses, for int'l "diplomatic" reasons.

Problem with Iranian regime is not nukes - it's the regime. State announcement said any agreement would address full spectrum of Iran's misbehavior, but there's no chance any such agreement would ever come about - that would mean complete transformation of the Iranian regime's mindset and priorities.

Posted by: rhomboid at September 22, 2018 08:02 PM (QDnY+)

633 Gosh, I do remember saying that Flake and Corker will cuck. But unlike skank, I am not here to gloat or Eeyore. There is a very simple solution to Flake taking his obvious MSNBC incentive and voting No.

Arrest Diane Feinstein for espionage and conspiracy against the United States.

Her limo driver is a Chinese spy? Dawg, that would justify your execution in civilized (ie: non-Western) countries. Every government with brains know the limo driver has to be a trusted personality, or else they can screw their patron. Keep her on ice until Kavanaugh is confirmed, then wink and shrug when (or if, but let's not go nuts) you release her.

McConnell almost certainly will not do this, of course. But for him specifically, the alternative is completely destroying the US Senate. At that point, the Republican base will be radicalized enough to demand President Trump pass an edict to execute Congress outright. Kreplach will be a soppy liberal in the face of that. Point is, conservatives will be baying for Mitch's blood, and liberals will want him dead to avenge Merrick Garland. There will be no safe space for him, anywhere.

Take the risk, or lose it all. Your choice Mitch. We do not tolerate failure.

Now anyone with an axe to grind sees the John McCain treatment and wants to go out the same way.

I could understand the craziness right now if Kavanaugh was accused of actual rape and it was some he said she said, but I have to think there's a decent amount of people with common sense that are wondering if all of this over maybe going to 2nd base without permission is a bit absurd.

It doesn't actually matter if Kav come out of committee with no recommendation; ask JUSTICE Clarence Thomas about that. Kav will be the next justice.

I almost hate to ask, but why was Wednesday put out as the "last" "final" offer when Ford's Hacks had been talking about Thursday all along?

Timing of getting Kav voted on before 1 Oct?
Something else entirely?

Or perhaps it was an opportunity to "give" something up to look "reasonable" that's really a bit of a nothingburger?

Posted by: DocJ at September 22, 2018 08:44 PM (9TYxj)

662 We'll see. As I said, hard to believe the "strategy" on the Dem side actually includes her ever testifying. If it had been, they would have quickly agreed to it, with minimal conditions.

Impossible to tea leaf-read past a certain point. We'll just have to see what happens. But as most (all?) logical observers have observed, if she brings nothing more to the party than she apparently has - which is nothing, in terms of actual evidence - then it will be quite an odd event. And Kav will simply deny everything, which is what people do when there's nothing there.

Posted by: rhomboid at September 22, 2018 08:45 PM (QDnY+)

663 DocJ, I'm unable to do any meaningful speculation about committee strategy here. Seemed they were just being forthcoming, saying yes or offering multiple alternatives on most issues, until the silly stuff started, after which it was "no, we'll do it the normal way".

Committee: Ford goes first, she gets questions from whoever we want to question her, Wednesday 09:30

Ford's Hacks: Too much traffic on I-80 to get here by Wednesday. Make it Thursday.

Committee: Done, so we're good with the rest of the conditions I assume.

Ford's Hacks (tweeting out that WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT FOR THURSDAY!!!!!!!): Woah! We never said anything about that!!

Her legal team would never allow her to be put under oath and I can't under any circumstances imagine Grassley accepting that condition as it would be an utterly outrageous unfairness to Judge K and any other witness who ever sat before that committee in history.

They're desperately trying to get to a point where Grassley has to throw-in the towel and say "We're done here" but it looks like he's boxed them in a bit because he doesn't have to do anything until he gavels the meeting open at 10:00 Monday morning.

So yeah, same crap that's been smacked-down. My guess is that the negotiators said, "Fine, Thursday. Now to the rest of the conditions..." and that's pretty much when the conversation stopped.

715 Pergram said "tentative" deal on Thursday, "talks continuing". Which, as I pointed out, pointed to trouble, since it's hard to see the committee backing off their position on conditions (see their last letter).

One reason I whine about the GOP not jumping in, immediately and aggressively and in detail, and with some nastiness, to the stupid public chatter about this is that, when the Ford side ultimately pulls their final stunt ("we tried but the committee kept bullying Dr Ford and imposing unreasonable conditions and tainting everything with leaks") then there will be a much more accurate and balanced starting point in terms of explaining what happened.

Not true. He can still be voted on by the full Senate even if the Committee is a "no" or a "no recommendation" vote. That's how Thomas was voted in. Phuch Jeff Flake.

721 Yes, I understand the "unanimous" part of unanimous consent. Quite well.

Point was that if the Ford team agreed to something, that implied Dem agreement, so rules could be waived because that would simply reflect agreement by both sides over scheduling, whatever.

Rules are not a barrier at this point, in themselves.

Unless I misunderstand parts of this or am missing quite a bit, it does indeed seem hard to imagine Ford appearing.

746 For those keeping score at home...

Professor Christine Blasey Ford has apparently identified four people who were at a party, somewhere in the MD suburbs of DC, sometime around 1982 (likely in the summer), where she claims to have been "sexually assaulted" by Brett Kavanaugh

Brett Kavanaugh: categorical denial of any such behavior, or even attending any such party, and certainly not with Ms. Blasey

Mark Judge (who is alleged to have participated in the assault): has "no memory of the incident" and testifies that he never once saw Kavanaugh "act that way" toward any woman, ever

Patrick Smyth: denies ever being at such a party

Leland Ingham Keyser (a "lifelong friend of Ms. Blasey): "does not know Mr. Kavanaugh," and "has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford."

In a sane world, this would be all over but for a pair of affirmative votes.

But we don't live in that world.

756 This is just a media show and Democrats are milking it for all they can. They seem very comfortable with this scenario and so far it seems to be working out great for them.
What they aren't getting is that, to many people, this does not look like how a country should be run. Senate debates should not be about an incident between high school students that may have taken place more than 30 years ago. This is puerile. This is juvenile.
But very likely, if not the actual senators, then probably many of the Democratic staffers and strategists find this perfectly normal. The accuser's lawyers are probably chairs of the diversity committees in their big law firms. Title IX commissions, secret investigations, discrimination and harassment accusations: this is how they got where they are and this is how they plan to proceed in the future.
