I’m not happy about Ed Whelan’s offer of proof of mistaken identity by the accuser, as it basically just accuses another guy who is probably himself innocent. I don’t think this accuser has a strong enough claim or a credible enough presentation of her claim to warrant Finding the Real Rapist. Is this there one at all?

Whelan is clever enough to know he shouldn't be laying these "alternative facts" out for the public unless everyone involved had signed off on the story.
There's a reason why Kathleen Parker wrote her "case of mistaken identity" op-ed in the Washington Post.
More importantly, Whelan is saying what he's saying tonight because the real deadline for Kavanaugh's accuser isn't Monday, but tomorrow, when her lawyers must submit a written copy of any formal testimony she might give on Monday.

New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is facing accusations of hypocrisy over his calls to delay the confirmation vote of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh amid sexual misconduct allegations, as he once admitted groping a friend without her consent in high school.
The senator, who urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to first let the FBI conduct an investigation after California professor Christine Blasey Ford accused the high court nominee of sexual assault over 35 years ago, once wrote an article detailing an instance where he groped a female friend.
"New Year's Eve 1984 I will never forget. I was 15. As the ball dropped, I leaned over to hug a friend and she met me instead with an overwhelming kiss. As we fumbled upon the bed, I remember debating my next 'move' as if it were a chess game," Booker wrote in the student-run Stanford Daily newspaper in 1992.
"With the 'Top Gun' slogan ringing in my head, I slowly reached for her breast. After having my hand pushed away once, I reached my 'mark,'" he continued, without explaining what he meant by "mark."

"In retrospect, my soliloquy titled 'The Oppressive Nature of Male Dominated Society and Its Violent Manifestations Rape, Anorexia, Battered Wives' may have been a surreptitious attempt to convince her that I was a sensitive man, but more likely I was trying to convince myself that my attitudes had changed," he wrote.
Democratic Senator Cory Booker opened Thursday's Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh with a pledge to risk expulsion from the Senate in exchange for releasing emails and documents not released for public consumption; Shannon Bream reports from Capitol Hill.
The now-senator came back to the topic a few months later in 1992, penning another article that mentioned the controversial column, which he said was about "date rape," and admitted that his actions were at odds with his beliefs.
"But by my second column, as I raised my noble pen to address the issue of date rape, I realized that the person holding it wasn't so noble after all," he wrote. "With this issue as with so many others, a dash of sincere introspection has revealed to me a dangerous gap -a gap between my beliefs and my actions."

The columns by Booker, a potential 2020 presidential contender, have resurfaced after he became one of the leading voices of the Democratic opposition against Kavanaugh's confirmation.
Following allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh, which he vehemently denied, Booker said the accusations are "serious, credible, and deeply troubling." After the committee vote was delayed and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley invited both Ford and Kavanaugh to testify on Monday, Booker called for an FBI investigation before holding a hearing.
Paul Mulshine, a columnist for the Star-Ledger, the largest newspaper in New Jersey, wrote Thursday that Booker's columns will put him in an awkward position amid the scandal rocking the confirmation hearings.
"Based on that Stanford Daily column, Booker should be giving Kavanaugh the benefit of the doubt as well. The point of it was that the future senator had 'a wake-up call' and decided 'I will never be the same.'"
Booker's office pushed back strongly.
"This disingenuous right-wing attack, which has circulated online and in partisan outlets for the past five years, rings hollow to anyone who reads the entirety of Senator Booker's Stanford Daily column," a spokesperson for the senator said in a statement to Fox News.
"The column is in fact a direct criticism of a culture that encourages young men to take advantage of women -- written at a time when so candidly discussing these issues was rare -- and speaks to the impact Senator Booker's experience working to help rape and sexual assault survivors as a college peer counselor had on him."

If the D's wanted this alleged offense to be considered in the confirmation proceeding, they should have brought it up months ago when they received the accusation.
Their entire goal is to delay the confirmation vote beyond the election - we will have Ford refusing to testify on Monday, and changing her mind and agreeing to testify one day before the Senate is scheduled to vote on the matter, thereby guaranteeing a further delay.
At this point, the R's, if they had any spine, would just have the vote.

But there's two parts to it: does he seem like the type of guy who goes to a party with a buncha dudes and one or two girls, and gets trashed?
A lot of stuff about this story is possible, but unlikely, and there are so many possible/unlikely bits to it the thing just looks sketchy as hell even without factoring in the timing. Even the left seems sort of skeptical about it, there's been pieces in the SF Chronicle and Huffington posts about how this just doesn't smell right. We didn't even get that with the ridiculous flood of false accusers for Roy Moore.
This is the kind of thing that makes trained, experienced investigators take a pass unless something more solid comes up, sort of like how the FBI did.

This situation has moved firmly into the zone of we cant tell what's going on behind the scenes. For us, who are not privy to any of the players or events, there is now way for us to read what's going on anymore.
This is one of the most remarkable things I have witnessed on my whole life.
But make no mistake, I don't think there are a lot of rookie moves going on here. There is no way for us to determine how what or why anymore.

I found out how unreliable the minds memory can be (at least mine).

For 60 years now we've watched our country's culture and morals eroded and sometimes thrown out because of the decisions of 9 ppl in black robes.

Some has been blatantly made up. The left has been on the sidelines pushing their agenda through the courts laughing all the way.

Last week, someone posted that they had O"Rourke yard signs and would give them to anyone who wanted. There were a handful of responses.
Then, 2 days ago, someone posts that he has Cruz yard signs and will deliver them or people can pick them up. Requests come pouring in and what do you know- a O'Rourke supporter suddenly posts that its a violation of Next Door's policy and demands the post come down. The Cruz guy pushes back and says it isn't, and everyone else basically mocks her because she has not scolded the O"Rourke supporter.
Anyway, every hour or so, another posts comes up and it is so juvenile and ridiculous, but it makes me laugh.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. I'd consider it seriously had Ed Whelan ended his little rant with a "stay tuned" or "more to be revealed" comment. But he didn't. He ended with a "I'm not accusing anyone because I don't know what happened 36 years ago" comment.

Here, Ed Whelan just barfed out the name of the guy days in advance of the now-unscheduled hearing, didn't back it up with anything that reasonably implicates Garrett and didn't end with a "more coming" comment. Looks pretty convincing to me that Whelan just fired off everything he's got, and it's laughable.
If his tweet rant WAS "prepping the field," it wasn't part of 3-dimensional chess because now the Left has days (weeks, if Grassley agrees to Ford's terms) to prepare their counter-narrative. So, now no Perry Mason moment.

Whelan is a libelous ass for publishing this speculation and he is, in addition, not helpful in pulling attention away from Ford's changing story.

Note that the point is not to convince anyone who is already convinced that she's lying. The point is to convince squishies and those who believe that she's remembering something real happening even if she doesn't remember enough of the details to be convincing. This adds an argument that Kavanaugh is just that much less likely to be involved in whatever shit might have gone down.
Now, I think she's not wholly making shit up. The thing is, she didn't know Kavanaugh, so a case of mistaken identity would make sense. But I also suspect that what she's remembering as a sexual assault was more attempted horseplay maybe leading to sex that went wrong. You had two strong guys that she supposedly escaped from who didn't manage either to physically hurt her or even to try to stop her. That doens't sound like either of them were vested in actual violence against her, sexual or otherwise. This makes even more sense since she supposedly had a reputation for being easy.
