There is an important difference between the portions of #NeverTrump that are sane enough to understand that conservatives who aren't Trump (and the conservative project generally) aren't tainted by proximity to Trump. Kavanaugh's a solid conservative and he deserves defending on those grounds, even though he's appointed by Trump.
Then there are the true #Cruiseservatives, for whom any proximity to Trump taints you. Jen Rubin, for example, is basically indistinguishable from Diane Feinstein when it comes to Kavanaugh.

I'm voting No. Grassley opened the door to endless Dem shenannigans when he ignored the enforcement of this own Committee's rules. If he now says Monday or Never, he lays himself and the other GOP members of the Committee to the very anti-woman charges he sought to avoid by bending over backwards to "take this seriously" in the first place.
No, Ford is now in control of the Senate confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh, and THAT should tell us all everything we need to know about where this will end.
Ford will "negotiate" a different hearing date, and before then, the goal posts will move again. A heretofore unannounced witness will be out of town, returning on Nov. 8, or whatever. It will be something. Ford is just playing her assigned role of putting off the vote for a week or two. Now the Progressive Monolith has this Narrative firmly in hand and will play it out to its entirely predictable conclusion.

There is some importance around the process. You can't just blow it up. It could be (I hope) that this was all planned for Monday, and they pull the pin whether she shows or not. The reps are playing this like they got a handle on what's gonna happen on Monday and whatever Balsy does aint gonna change what happens.

It is a ridiculous leap to assume anything at all happened to Ford let alone to identify alternate suspects for a "crime" that has absolutely no corroboration.
Hold the hearing Monday and fucking subpoena Ford if anyone still thinks there is any reason whatsoever to hear from her.

Whelan just made Ford more credible. She didn't have the "where" before. Now she does: Garrett's house. And this Garrett fellow was friends with Kavanaugh. Whelan just made the argument for Kavanaugh being in that house.
So unless Whelan has more, and can prove that Kavanaugh was never there, he just bolstered Ford's case.

Disagree. There are a whole bunch of moving parts on both sides of this argument. Kavanaugh's accuser isn't the only one playing a strategic game. Don't think for a moment that Whelan's "move" hasn't been previously coordinated with everyone involved.

She didn't have a publicly known where before, but I assume lawyers on both sides had already narrowed things down to this precise house.
Again, ask yourself why Kathleen Parker floated her "case of mistaken identity" theory two days ago.

Agreed, but that principle generally applies to larger, more complicated conspiracies. Fundamentally, this is a story of overprivileged DC teenagers getting drunk and screwing around in the '80s, and political asshats trying to leverage unprovable accusations for longer term political purposes.
Democrats, on some level, don't even care if Kavanaugh is confirmed. Sure, it'd be great if this scandal tanked him, but if it doesn't, then he's stained forever, and the entire Republican party gets painted yet again as a bunch of old, lecherous white men.

I'm not saying that Ford's allegations are now proved. But if you read through Whelan's tweets, he shows that Ford's description of the house aligns with the layout of Kavanaugh's friend's house. Ford's description of the house aligns with (again, doesn't prove) the home of one of Kavanaugh's friends, a house where Kavanaugh could have been.
If you don't see how this makes Ford look better, imagine if we had the opposite information: None of Kavanaugh's friends had a house matching Ford's description. That would hurt her story.

That's hopeful fantasy and wish casting. A story like this doesn't make it as far as it has without some kernel of truth at the center of things. Of course, someone, somewhere had a house like she described. I doubt Whalen just magically found this house through investigation. He knew 'cause Kavanaugh and friends knew the house she had described.

They're forcing the story forward to eliminate the stall. Now, a story will come out with or without her testimony- more than one witness will place her at that party. She was there, Kav was not. Whether anything happened or what that anything was is immaterial to the confirmation.

Again, I'm not saying that this proves anything. But it improves Ford's credibility.
Suppose Kavanaugh and all of his friends lived in ranch homes. Then her story about a staircase would point away from Kavanaugh. But that's not what we have here. The house is consistent with her story. And it makes her memory look more reliable... at least a little bit.
Whelan was selling this as an exoneration of Kavanaugh. It's not, not at this point, and it won't be unless there's more to point to Garrett. Instead, we now have Ford's memory looking at least a little more reliable, and we have the ability to place Kavanaugh in a house similar to the one she described. We didn't have those things before.
