Something's Coming That Will Vindicate Kavanaugh?

#SalonHot25 charter member AllahPundit digests some tweets which suggest that there may be some strong evidence emerging soon.

Whelan also suggested that while Kavanaugh was innocent of any crime, someone else might be guilty of one, and noted that it was a crime to lie to Congress.

I'm suspicious of all this -- not because I think Kavanaugh is guilty, but because, in my experience, life just doesn't work out this way.

Usually.

220 The left's reaction to the truth reminds me of a parapsychology textbook for a class the short-term girlfriend of an apartment-mate of mine was taking in the nineties. (Yes, this was when I lived in California, how did you guess?)

The introduction talked about how researchers have to be careful when they find out that a person claiming psychic powers has been cheating. The fact that they feel so strongly about psychic powers that they cheat to prove it, is evidence that they really have psychic powers.

If they had not experienced real psychic ability, they wouldn't be so compelled to make shit up. Ergo, cheating during the experiments is proof that they really are psychic.

The same will be said about this accuser if she is proved absolutely wrong and lying.

If they had the balance of power in American life, never mind the overwhelming control they think they have, not even Donald Trump's considerable skill could have gained him the presidency. This is about trying to delay the process until after the mid-terms. That's their primary goal."

It's also the mark of people who are completely undisciplined and are completely run by their emotions. They are upset, and so they have to act out, with no self control. Bad enough when one person does this, to see an entire political movement do this is mind boggling.

And it isn't just this nomination - remember in the Gorsuch nomination, when Schumer threw away his filibuster privileges on a fight he knew he couldn't win, just to make a point to his activists? That was idiotic, too.

Prediction - When RBG goes down, there actually won't be near as much of a fuss, for one simple reason - Democrats have shot their wad, they've already pulled out every trick in the book, they have got nothing left to do that they haven't already done. And it just ain't working.

Probably not Gorsuch (that would be too funny) but someone else. Or her brother did it to someone else, and she is borrowing the details. These histrionic women do not do this just once- its a personality disorder and they keep on it.

I mentioned two days ago the case I had defending my client against personal injury claims asserted by a woman who, it turns out, had fabricating an entire pregnancy with twins! It sucks. I've been going to this synagogue since I was little. Since it started in the 70s it was aggressively unaffiliated. Started out with a great rabbi - very conservative, and had liberated Buchenwald, so was very old, and he left in the mid 90s to take the emeritus position at another, wealthier synagogue that wanted to reward him for decades of service to Judaism.

Then we got another guy, who wasn't as great at first - more of a reform type. But then, 9/11 happened and he got his mind right, and was very good, and much more conservative. He left to devote his time completely to his side-job doing prison and hospital ministry.

Then we got this new guy, who passed as reasonable, if wishy washy at first. But he pulled the synagogue more and more leftward until he was able to convince the board, after more than thirty years of resistance, to affiliate. As Reconstructionist. It's awful, and I can't escape, because my mother has put too much damned work into the place to quit it, and I won't go without my mom.

560 Giving the Dems time is mortal in this combat. Vote was to be tomorrow. Now, we have to wait to Friday before we know if Dr.Crazy will actually testify. Between now and Friday, the Dems will come up with the next chapter in this Sago. Sure, she'll testify but, you know, I'm really busy at the moment. I have tons of evidence to support me, but I need to at least Nov. 7 to assemble it all.

Or, a second anonymous accuser will step forward. Whatever. Doesn't really matter. Grassley, by playing the Dems' game, is, well, playing the Dems' game. And their game as everyone knows very well, is to push this past the Mid Terms.

Sure does. I don't think a yes vote is going to get her reelected (it would take Divine, or Satanic, intervention to do that) but she's dead meat for sure if she votes no.

575 Her attorney's latest ploy is that it would be "unfair" for her to appear at a hearing where she and Kavanaugh would be the only witnesses.

What other "witnesses" could there be, other than the other guy she claimed was in the room, and who has also said it never happened, and the other guy she claimed was at the party, who said likewise?

She can't remember the names of the other people, so she said. I don't think a John Doe subpoena for everyone who went to high school in the Washington DC area in the 1980s would be very productive.

579 This is all horribly predictable. Dems make outrageous attack. GOP does or pretends to take it seriously. Media coordinate stories & coverage echoing the Dem line of attack and expanding on it. Paid Dem activists blow up social media with the same, but with even more shrillness and viciousness. GOP elected officials respond by beginning every sentence with a Hidden Enablement (e.g., "Accusations of must always be taken seriously") and thus walk right into the "frame" created by the Dems. End result = Dems get another data point to cement the intended caricature of the day (i.e., racist, sexist, homophobic, Nazi, stupid, evil, fascist, etc.), GOP retreats further from doing anything to set off the (professionally organized) Progressive mob, and we all spend our time thinking and talking about the topics the Dems have chosen for day/week/month news cycle. In other words, here we are again, dealing with the World as the Progressive's conceive of it.

First thing they teach you in debate school is to not accept the underlying assumptions of your opponent.

From GOP politicians, sorely needed for decades has been an organized response to these attacks with intellectual firepower. Some GOP influencers do this well. Levin, Huckabee and The Stache come to mind.

From Conservative Media, we need (a) a lot more of it, and (b) editors/producers/thinkers that are committed to not following the bouncy ball thrown by the Progressive media. Take Fox News, for example. Good or bad reporting/programming aside, consider the TOPICS of discussion. I'd wager it's 70% - 85% defense on the liberal media narrative of the day. Point is, Progressive media talks about Progressive issues and policies. Conservative media talks about Progressive issues and policies. What's missing here?

Posted by: RichardWindsor at September 19, 2018 07:17 PM (db5dt)

580 Dems goal in this was never to get Ford on the record. They want to get Mark Judge to testify that he and Kavanaugh used to get so drunk in high school that it is possible they don't remember everything they ever did.

As a bonus, they can ask Kavanaugh if he agrees with everything his buddy Judge ever wrote. This HuffPost article gives away that entire strategy:

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/opinion-mark-judge-kavanaugh_us_5ba13b34e4b04d32ebfd5ecd

The really don't care if Ford testifies or not. If they get Kavanaugh and Judge to trip up their job is done.

583 582/ Nah, they were just about to lose the vote that was scheduled for tomorrow. This was a hail mary. Given that the schedule for confirmation is now completely up in the air, I'd say the GOP defense was "prevent," and the they just let the Dems catch the ball on the 35 yard line. It's now 3rd down, 1 yard to go. On defense are the guys that have accomplished nothing while in or out of power since forever.

586 Grassley/GOP made a huge mistake here. The proper response from Grassley was to stick with the Thursday vote and hit the podium accusing the Democrats of stonewalling and breaking committee rules. What would have happened? The Progressives would have frothed at the mouth and accused the GOP of being anti-woman.

Instead, Grassley and the GOP delayed the vote, granted the accuser a special hearing, and have gone to great pains across the board to announce how seriously this should be taken, how important it is that the accuser is heard, etc. Result? Progressives frothed at the mouth and accused the GOP of being anti-woman.

Huh. Funny how that works. See, if Grassley would have blown this off, we'd be having this exact same conversation but the vote would be tomorrow and the Progressives would be eating DiFi alive for sitting on the information.

592 Dem calls for House uprising if Kavanaugh confirmed without hearing from Ford
by Naomi Lim
September 19, 2018 08:22 PM

A House Democrat called on his colleagues Wednesday to "rise up" if Republican senators push forward with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation without hearing from his sexual assault accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.

"For the men and women of the House of Representatives, we must rise up in disgust and anger and make certain that our voice is clear," Rep. John Garamendi, D-Calif., said during an interview with CNN. "Get the facts out. Give this woman the benefit of the doubt. Don't treat her as so many women have been treated time after time in courtroom after courtroom."

Only the Senate has advise and consent responsibilities under the Constitution, rendering the House powerless to express any concerns over nominees named by the president for certain administration positions.

Instead, Garamendi suggested that he and other House lawmakers march over to the Senate because Kavanaugh's nomination was a "defining moment in the #MeToo movement."

Ford publicly accused Kavanaugh Sunday of drunkenly forcing himself on her during a high school house party in the 1980s when she was 15 and he was 17. Kavanaugh has "categorically and unequivocally" denied the claim.

Kavanaugh is scheduled to answer questions about the alleged incident on Monday during a public session of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford does not want to testify in front of the panel until the FBI has investigated her accusation.

President Trump on Wednesday described Kavanaugh as an "an outstanding man," saying it was "very hard" for him "to imagine that anything happened."

Garamendi dismissed Trump's defense of Kavanaugh, given the president's "long history of facing this precise issue."

"He cannot and should not duck his responsibility for a full and fair investigation of the allegations that have been made by professor Ford," Garamendi told CNN of Trump.
