WSJ: Questions Multiply About Blasey-Ford's Memory, and Motives
The WSJ's editors suggest this is all just a failure of memory, trying to avoid the inevitable claim that "you're smearing a victim." But that's the very question that needs to be resolved first --whether she is in fact a victim. If she's not a victim, you can't just say "You're smearing a victim." That's begging the question, using the very claim that is in need of proving to help prove itself. Meanwhile, Dianne Feinstein offers a ringing endorsement of Blasey-Ford's shaky powers of recollection, saying she cannot attest that everything Ford says is truthful:
The woman accusing Brett Kavanaugh of a drunken assault when both were teenagers has now come forward publicly, and on Monday it caused Republicans to delay a confirmation vote and schedule another public hearing. Yet there is no way to confirm her story after 36 years, and to let it stop Mr. Kavanaugh's confirmation would ratify what has all the earmarks of a calculated political ambush.
... Ms. Ford concedes she told no one about it--not even a high school girl friend or family member--until 2012 when she told the story as part of couples therapy with her husband. ...
The Post reports that the therapist's notes from 2012 say there were four male assailants, but Ms. Ford says that was a mistake. Ms. Ford also can't recall in whose home the alleged assault took place, how she got there, or how she got home that evening. ... The Post says Ms. Ford contacted the paper via a tip line in July but wanted to remain anonymous. She then brought her story to a Democratic official while still hoping to stay anonymous. Yet she also then retained a lawyer, Debra Katz, who has a history of Democratic activism and spoke in public defense of Bill Clinton against the accusations by Paula Jones. Ms. Katz urged Ms. Ford to take a polygraph test. The Post says she passed the polygraph, though a polygraph merely shows that she believes the story she is telling. The more relevant question is why go to such lengths if Ms. Ford really wanted her name to stay a secret? Even this weekend she could have chosen to remain anonymous. These are the actions of someone who was prepared to go public from the beginning if she had to. ...
It would also be a serious injustice to a man who has by all accounts other than Ms. Ford's led a life of respect for women and the law. Every #MeToo miscreant is a repeat offender. The accusation against Mr. Kavanaugh is behavior manifested nowhere else in his life.

They didn't believe it would come to open testimony. But they planned on using that, too, for a delay.

But there's an internal number here that upends the entire Dem's theory of taking over Texas - their entire idea is that Beto will go all Mexican, all in favor of illegals and open borders, and he will get 95% of the Hispanic vote, which mathematically would be enough for him to win.
But this poll is breaking down with Hispanic voters, 55% Beto, 45% Cruz. Combine that with Cruz's 80% of the white vote, and Beto's got no chance.
(psst - a secret that Dems don't realize yet about the Texas race - they forgot to put a black face on the ballot, so black voters are saying they're gonna vote for Beto, but very few them are going to show up to vote at all in November. Because senators are supposed to represent their state's interests. They were not supposed to be popularly elected.
The Senate as originally devised was a large check on the power of the federal government. That was swept away by the 17th Amendment. The federal government has grown by leaps and bounds ever since.

Yeah I get the feeling people don't know the history of why it happened. It came in with the last populist movement in the later part of the 19th century. They had a real problem with the railroads buying up state legislatures which meant you got a bunch of corrupt assholes getting the nod.
Either way hasn't really worked, though. Easy to say quit electing corrupt assholes but it keeps happening anyway.

That's why my repeal plan includes doing away with the length of how long a senator serves. Instead they serve at the sufferance of the state and can be recalled and replaced at any time. No more grandstanding because they have nothing to lose.

Ya know, there was a news story about some British TV executive behaving like an octopus on a plane, which made it look suspiciously like the "octopus on a plane" Trump accuser had just used the news story for inspiration for her manufactured complaint against Trump.
I remember reading the news article but have been unable to re-locate it since. I wonder if it had been scrubbed so it wouldn't cast doubt on the complaint.

It is possible something similar to what the woman claims happened and he entirely forgot it. I mean, suppose the two were at a party and some rough-housing went on--nothing like sexual assault, but just some frolicking around.
He might forget something so inconsequential. In that case, he could very well be in trouble.
Nevertheless, the man seems too smart for that and too good at the legal game. Having watched his answer to Harris, I come down on the side that he absolutely believes, at least, that this woman is making it entirely up.

Because senators are supposed to represent their state's interests. They were not supposed to be popularly elected.
The Senate as originally devised was a large check on the power of the federal government. That was swept away by the 17th Amendment. The federal government has grown by leaps and bounds ever since.

And I'm glad I live in Texas, where polygraphs are completely inadmissible as evidence in any criminal trial. Reason is simple - a skilled equipment operator with a foolish subject can easily slant the test either way, if he wants to, and an educated subject who knows how they work can do the same to even a skilled operator.
Polygraphs "work" sometimes, but no more often than a face to face interview with an experienced police detective does. The machine is just there to put a sciency veneer on the proceedings.
