This Is CNN: Thumb Chris Cillizza Says It's "Walking a Very Dangerous Line" to Ask Kavanaugh's Accuser When and Where This Assault Is Supposed to Have Taken Place

Seared, seared into her memory.

But she doesn't remember where it happened, when it happened, or who else was there.

And asking those questions is "very dangerous," says CNN's Special Thumb for Snowflake Advocacy.

Meanwhile, Kavanaugh's accuser is ready to testify, except for the actual testifying part.

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing Judge Brett Kavanaugh of high-school-era sexual assault, has so far ignored repeated inquiries from the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Chuck Grassley told Hugh Hewitt Tuesday.

Grassley announced Monday that the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on the woman’s accusations, which surfaced Sunday after Blasey Ford granted an interview to The Washington Post. The senator noted to Hewitt, however, that he had reached out to Ford and her attorney "three or four times" in the last 36 hours but has yet to receive any communication.

"It kinda raises the question: Do they want to come to the public hearing or not?" he inquired.

No, they don't. They want this accusation to be reported only by friendly media, with no one asking impertinent questions about when or where it is supposed to have happened. She will "testify" by lawyer and by media.

Meanwhile, the plan calls for Kavanaugh to be hailed back in front of the committee to be grilled not just on this woman's (not under oath) claims but anything else they can think of to embarrass him, like if he's ever touched a woman's boob without getting strict verbal consent and how many times he's been drunk in his life.

22 Here's where all this falls ultimately.

Say this came to court, somehow. Her testimony and evidence leave enough probable doubt to drive a truck through. Especially given that her story's changed (3) times, the accusation came out of "recovered memory" (which is not admissible in court), and she needed five attempts to pass a polygraph (also not admissible in court).

There's a reason they want to make all these charges, but avoid any scrutiny. They know its bullshit.

She was told essentially that her name wouldn't be used, she wouldn't have to testify, and just her coming forward to the Dems was enough to derail his nomination.

Well, no.

If anything is clear, it must be this: Justice Thomas set the tone for how to respond to this tripe. He remains the benchmark for how you handle an attempted character assassination. Most Republicans do it wrong, but it appears perhaps Kavanaugh has learned a thing or two from Justice Thomas.

And that's the beginning of series of stupider and more accusatory questions.

He probably won't but he should turn each of the questions on to the Senator asking them. "I've never been a big drinker so I wouldn't know what it's like to be drunk. Perhaps, Senator, you can tell us what it's like."

The question should be treated ridicule and contempt that they deserve.

Hence, any consideration of the accuser's sketchy, 36-year old claim, which is dubious on its face for a number of reasons, should be rejected now as untimely.

It's kind of like impeachment, the Senate can use it for whatever they want to use it for. There are precedented patterns, but that doesn't actually make rules around the Senate's processes.

My little collection of History Books indicates that today's "new normal" is how things have been for almost all of recorded history.

These notions of "equal protection" and "innocent until proven guilty" are unique, and haven't been around all that long - in the cosmic scheme.

And they're not how the worst of Human Nature works. And like most things, the Lowest Common Denominator is what sets the standard.

There is a reason Feinfink held on to this. Part of that reason may be to see if it came out, or some DNC linked scheme was uncovered. Just like the so-called Russian dossier. ---
And people just get an impression that it's "credible". Well, you shouldn't think your impression that it's credible--what do you KNOW about Kavanaugh, after all?--is binding on anybody else.

There is just as much indication that it's not credible. It certainly doesn't seem credible. After all the proponents are saying nonsense like talking about investigating what was likely un un-chaperoned party 36 years ago--when the "witness" can't get any more specific than a county and a year!

The idea that this can be *investigated*--when affirmed Russian Agent Carter Page eluded the FIB right under the FIB's nose (arguendo)--seems far-fetched. We shouldn't heed the claims of being "reasonable" from people caught directly in the act of not being *reasonable*.

Absolutely. I should have made that clear. I don't want to go into her past except insofar as it may be relevant. For example, if she has previously made similar allegations that proved unfounded, or there are other matters that go to her credibility (e.g., mental health problems). I think that that's fair game, because it bears on this issue.

But otherwise, no.

I loved John Kennedy's statement to John Dean that he ultimately did the right thing, but only after he was "cornered like a rat." That was beautiful.

The senate needs to adopt a new rule for confirmation hearings: "We will not consider any allegations against the nominee that are more than 10 years old, unless the alleged crime was a serious felony and the accuser can provide either a contemporaneous police report, or photographic or video evidence of the crime, in which the nominee is clearly identifiable as the perpetrator."

No more of this "He did something awful to me 20 or 30 or 40 years ago, and I can't remember where exactly, and I can't remember when exactly, and I'm fuzzy on most of the details, and there is nobody else who can confirm my version of events, but trust me, he did it and it should disqualify him from ever holding this office. In the case of the Kavanaugh Dossier, they don't want a Justice who will honor the Constitution.

Anita Hill was totally different and even though she was lying, her case was stronger because she knew Thomas and had worked with him. They spoke and had interactions with each other--so it COULD have happened, even though the pubic hair was too fantastical a detail.

I maintain that my belief that if Planned Parenthood lost its federal funding, the Democratic Party would, over the course of about a decade or less, abandon the pro-choice position as a central tenant of the party.

The money to support it would vanish, and so would the impetus to maintain PP's preferred policies.

409 y guess is the Thomas story was largely accurate, but welcomed by the woman in question until he finally rejected her for his wife and the woman scorned and all that. I think what drives the party to keep is so central to the party platform really is the money.

The parties are driven by what fills their coffers. Gun rights are a great financial motivator for the Republican Party, so it keeps that up. The difference is that the biggest source of funding for pro-gun stuff is an organization that relies entirely on member dues. As opposed to abortion who's organization relies almost exclusively on federal funds.

If PP isn't boosting candidates here and there, then other organizations that fund campaigns will get more attention from candidates and elected Democrats.

Money wins.

Cut off PP, and abortion falls.

At the time, I thought the pubic hair thing could have been true. Anybody who has worked in an office knows people say stupid shit like that all the time. People used to just shrug it off, instead of screaming "sexual harassment!"

Most of the stuff Hill testified to was stupid stuff like that. Even if Thomas did it, who cares? It was nothing, and Hill obviously thought the same at the time, because she kept following Thomas to other jobs and asking him for favors and references and shit.

case was stronger because she knew Thomas and had worked with him. They
spoke and had interactions with each other--so it COULD have happened,
even though the pubic hair was too fantastical a detail.

In my view Thomas had a much tougher case to disprove.

Posted by: JoeF. at September 18, 2018 02:41 PM (NFEMn)

Maybe, but how many people today were adults in 1991? The majority of the voting public has no idea what happened, other than what the pro-Anita propaganda machine has generated. Anita Hill, the Original Lying Skank, is considered a hero by many on the Left to this day.
So this is actually a way to get out what happened instead of the false story generated by the Democrat Press Machine.

Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at September 18, 2018 02:54 PM (UsCnO)

470 At the time, I thought the pubic hair thing could have been true. If there was a curly hair stuck to the top of her Coke can and Thomas happened to be standing near her desk and saw it, he might have said something about it, as a kind of joke.

Yeah, that part was plausible to me. I think Thomas crossed the line but not to the point of harassment -- and given her behavior (following him from job to job and volunteering for him) she was not exactly opposed to it, either.

She turned on him when he finally rejected her and she felt scorned. She became angry with him for sticking with the wife and saw an opportunity to make him suffer.

527 Let me tell you how this sort of thing can end. We knew a guy (and I've mentioned this story before) that touched a fully clothed 15 year old girl on the breast when he was 17. He was charged with a sex crime. It was a misdemeanor and he did some community service for it.

He then had to register as a sex offender for the REST of his life. And, he got thrown into jail a few times for failure to register. We had to point out to the local cops that he'd had a misdemeanor charge. My husband talked to the prosecutor. She said, if she'd known what it would do to his life, they wouldn't have prosecuted it. He could have had it removed from his record, if he'd had the money to pay for an attorney to do that.

If they allow this smear to go through, they will use it to call Kavanaugh a sex offender, for the rest of his life.

610 So....every woman (unless she's conservative) is to be believed 100%, no matter if it was yesterday or 35 years ago. No presumption of innocence for the man (unless he's liberal). AND, if you ask any details about the accusation (unless you're liberal)....that's a very thin line.

What a stupid time to be alive. We are so screwed.

611 Now they want to question Kavenaugh about his prior aggressive and violent behavior now that it has been alleged that he threw his bottle out of his crib when he was 14 months old.

The only feasible explanation (other than:
lying) is that she was abusing alcohol and/or drugs in HS and all of her
party experiences, sexual partners kinda blended together in her
memory.

Which would exonerate Kav.

Posted by: Lizzy at September 18, 2018 03:12 PM (W+vEI)
Some text yesterday was floating around and said that she had 60+ sex partners in HS and college.

the Skank couldn't remember which dick she was banging, they all taste the same after a while.

And another text said the Skank also wrote a similar letter to a Congress person about Neil Gorsuch, but not released. So the Skank is a nutcase, too.

If the Ranking Member of the United States Senate Committee reviewing this can make unsubstantiated claims, so can I.

614 What is the matter with the Republican Congress? Why is not a one standing up to this bull shit?

615 The Dems are happy to have their little liar testify. As long as by testify it is meant she tells her version of events, the parts she wishes to tell anyway, and no questioning or rebuttal allowed. allowed. Maybe some tears as she recalls the trauma as if it were yesterday and everybody must cry with her.

618 This is going to end very badly for everyone involved. America is going to see that being a good person your whole life will mean nothing if it stands of the Democrats getting a cookie. You will be maligned and detroyed until you serve The Party. It will be hard for them to mock Trump and be taken serously after what DiFi pulled - you can't claim to be the adult in the room and pull this type of shit

619 Habeus Corpus is sooo 18th century.

621 Since the bar has been set so low and nothing needs to be corroborated I have recovered a memory of being in San Francisco and being assaulted by Diane Feinstein.. I think we all should start recovering these memories and fighting fire with fire. Enough is enough.

624 If this stupid, ancient "charge" of alleged teen-on-teen groping is sufficient to derail the nomination of a Supreme Court Judge then the GOP leadership is beyond the uselessness of dog shit. Dog shit at least gives the dog motivation to take a walk.

625 "Collins is also saying she should be sworn in (and I think other members are insisting on that to)."
It's not like they would charge her with perjury if she was caught lying. They would say they wouldn't want to discourage other assault victims from making up stories coming forward against powerful men...or something. (They said that on a recent LO SVU.)

626 "Walking a VERY dangerous line here..."
Yes, yes you are. IF the defense is allowed to question the plaintiff about her memory and bring up her past partners then the whole case goes down the drain. The public trial must be held by the media and the verdict rendered by Twitter.

627 Ask those that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted when and where it happened. They'll tell you down to the exact room and the minute he attacked them.

meh, so what. This is war. They came up with some last minute bullshit, why can't we allege the same?

I say, we should say, just as a matter of decency to the process, that we demand, honor compels us, to investigate the possibility that this kook professor didn't send the same letter about gorshuch.

629 Grassley and committee should tell the woman to put up--and testify -- or shut up.

But then lying crap weasel Chuck Schumer will claim that he was there in the room--and he distinctly heard young Kavanaugh tell the girl to put out and shut up.

That is the way the Dems roll.
