CNN's "Legal Analyst:" Kavanaugh Hired a Lawyer to Defend Him Against These Accusations, So He Must be Guilty of Attempted Rape or Lying to Congress

This. Is. CNN.

And this is a banana.

Meanwhile, CNN is tearing its hair out claiming the unredacted FBI texts are a threat to "national security:"

A twitter user suggests that the unredacted texts might contain references to reporters the FBI officials are leaking to, which seems possible.

Sean Davis is also dubious of CNN's hysteria.

Fixed. I put the right tweet in. Sorry.

I thought she was going to kill me. Her leg hair felt like a brillo pad, but she in a friend had locked me in a room and then pinned me down. But I found the strength to knock both of them off me, and break down the door, and run the 15 miles to my house. I was a strong 12, or 15 or 52 year old or however old I was. The memory is seared, seared in my consciousness.

I agree. Just saying that it probably wasn't a felony offense, even if we accept everything she says as true. This was two teenagers, and the guy was falling-down drunk (according to the accuser), and nobody actually got hurt. If she had reported it at the time and the guy had confessed or some other evidence was available to corroborate her claim, it probably would have been charged as a misdemeanor in juvenile court. The "rapist" probably would have been sentenced to community service and ordered to get alcohol counseling.

Yes, it's possible that something happened to her when she was a kid, and she has distorted that memory and created a different one (that Brett K did it) in its place.

She claims to have PTSD, and it is fairly common for people with PTSD to have distorted memories of the event that caused the trauma.

Given her politics and family history, one could see how she might want to make K the bad guy in her memory -- especially if she was actually sexually molested in childhood by somebody she loved and trusted (a father or brother, for example). It would be easier to make somebody she already disliked (K) the villain, than to deal with the painful truth.

And if that fails, McConnell will ask, or another Senator will ask for him, for a vote on a discharge petition and we will see if he has 50%+1 of the Senators present.

490 Ford has been given every opportunity to talk to the Senate. She is

refusing (and saying through her lawyer that she is under no obligation

to prove her accusations are true). Flake cannot say she wasn't given

the opportunity to give her side of the story.

Posted by: pep at September 17, 2018 07:40 PM (T6t7i)

My POINT is that Flake now has no cover to vote no. Grassley did what he was insisting must be done. They heard from Kavanaugh this evening. Ford is refusing to talk to them and her lawyer has already said she is under no obligation to prove her claims... a fact left out of the sources say story.

For some reason the acoustics in the bathroom heightened the sounds coming from the playground. It was like the kids were there in the room with you, you couldn't help but hear them. None of us who worked there ever heard anything but the usual kids-having-fun noises.

Bear in mind that Feinstein has had this letter since July. She didn't go forward with it because the Dems didn't think it was credible. Neither did the FBI.

This has only come about because Feinstein leaked it to the media probably in the hope that public outcry would make Kavanaugh withdraw. She had her bluff called.

Ummm guys. Search your memories. When, exactly, have these people followed the law? They don't have to comply with Article Anything. They've proven it time and time again. They defy the Courts. They defy Committees. They defy the rule of law in general. Who do they answer to? Well, when a Committee makes a recommendation to indict...guess who they ask to do that? A US Attorney. Guess who directs the US Attorneys. The Unredacted FISA Application will not be released. This is the line in the sand. I'll remind you that the NYT's already has the full unredacted application. Not a lick of it has leaked. It's that damning. So we will never see it, and anything short of firing Rosenstein and Wray will not change that. Any attempt to fire them immediately gets turned into an obstruction accusation against Trump.

Two days ago Lindsey Graham came out and said it should be released. He said that for his constituents to eat up. Only, a few weeks ago he strongly stated that he was against removing Rosenstein. Yet, you can't have one without the other. You'll see.

Posted by: Cosmic Charlie at September 17, 2018 07:59 PM (PUmDY)

611 Fenelon, Downfall is a German movie about the last days of Hitler. Apparently the movie references the part where Hitler and his shrinking band of bigwigs were trying to order various military units around in the Berlin area, as the Soviets closed in.

Steiner was a general and commander of an SS division, one of the units the Fuhrer-bunker ordered to relieve the central govt. area (location of the bunker, in the garden of the Reichs chancellery). Steiner and the other unit, to the north, were not in a position to even attempt anything, so nothing happened - and I think the Fuhrer and his band knew that pretty quickly.

The only unit the bunker ordered to relieve the central district that had any resources and freedom of maneuver was commanded by another guy, Wenck, a young army general ("the boy general"). He made some attempt to comply, but didn't have much success, and then turned to the more sensible project of protecting civilians and trying to help people move west to surrender to the western Allies, v. the Russians. So, it should have been "Wenck will come" - but Steiner is the meme, due to the movie.

We now return you to Current Year conflicts, featuring far less interesting protagonists, who don't even have cool uniforms .....

That's my feeling. The Democrats have a volunteer army of brown shirt types filled with zeal to lie, slander or attack conservatives whenever it will be useful to the cause. Like the "lone wolves" who hear ISIS recommendations to take certain actions on their own.

660 OK... I did some of my own sleuthing. Chuck Grassley released two statements today.

Assuming that statements are posted in chronological order, the first one said that both parties were invited to speak at a public hearing on Monday.

The second, later statement is the one that goes into Democratic obstructionism and says that the Democrats refused to facilitate testimony by Ford. After that statement, Kavanaugh's testimony was scheduled for this evening and Ford's lawyer said she wasn't talking to no stinky Senators. Grassley announced AFTER the second statement that the vote was not being delayed. The press seems to have just discovered the press release from this morning at around 6:30 this evening and are now ignoring Grassley's second statement.

The second statement is here: https://tinyurl.com/y9sz9bez

674 182 How do you accuse someone of a crime without knowing when or where said crime occurred?
Posted by: nurse ratched at September 17, 2018 07:12 PM (d7Ww2)

On jury duty, watched the trial of a fella accused of grand theft auto. He was stopped driving the car. It hadn't been reported stolen, and the dealership could not testify to when it left their possession, since the last record they had of it was from the day it had been returned to the lot from a 'courtesy car' shindig several months earlier.

Crackerjack defense lawyer had the guy testify, saying that he had gone to the lot and taken the car as a favor to his buddy Ed, who had blown into town but was no longer around and no he didn't know how to get in touch, had told him it was being repaired and would he go pick it up for him.

Turns out, from judge's instructions, that GTA guilt requires basically everything that the guy testified to, "in his own behalf." Testimony gave the DA the right to inform the jury of the guy's 30-yr record of grifts, scams, and thievery.

55 years is what he got. Guilty as sin, no doubt, but shouldn't have served even a day. I still think it was a conspiracy by all the officers of the court to get the guy off the streets.

690 Why did Christine Ford take an unsolicited lie detector test? Looks fishy to me. The very thought would not even OCCUR to an HONEST person. On the other hand, if the story LOOKS like a lie, she or her advisers might decide a lie detector test from a sympathetic tester might lend apparent credence to her lies.

Maybe Kavanaugh hired the lawyer to consider the possibility of a slander suit, and to consider the likely outcome of such a suit.
