Susan Collins Statement Is Kind of Empty and Doesn't Move the Ball Much

She wonders why this letter was not released until after the hearings.

Wants both parties under oath and both parties asked "a lot of questions."

She says in a Friday phone call with Kavanaugh, he "emphatically denied" the accusations and says he "never acted that way with this then-unnamed woman or any other woman." She adds again that he was "absolutely emphatic."

She does say that if it's proven he lied, then that would be "obviously disqualifying."

Asked at the end what she would do if this is merely a "he said she said" situation with no dispositive evidence either way, she wouldn't say what she'd do. She said instead something like "that's why it's important to get these questions answered under oath."

Alternatively, if Ford refuses then Collins has a way clear to vote for Kavanaugh.

Of course, it wasn't Collins that I was worried about. I can't remember the last vote she backstabbed the party on, unlike True Hero John McCain.

Well, she said what she believed might maybe could have happened if she hadn't escaped the drunk Kavanaugh. Which is not even she said. Just she speculated based on 36 year old memories and feels.

19 It sounds like to me if this does get derailed, it's more likely to come from someone like Jeff Flake than it will Susan Collins.

I don't like Susan Collins but she's actually been pretty good for SC nominations, at least so far.

I think she knows that if she deep sixes a SC nominee she'll end her career. RINOs can only push so far before their state dumps them and SC nominations are one of those red lines.

49 If Dems won't even participate in phone call follow-up (which Grassley states is SOP in such a situation), which would take place tonight/tomorrow/next 2 days, then committee can vote Thurs. as still planned, and Collins et al may not be able to stomach looking *so* ridiculous that they will call for delay or vote against, given the clumsy and obvious bad faith by the Dems in every aspect of this late hit.

If nutcase liar refuses to testify, game over. If she refuses to do phone call, game over. If Dems on committee continue with their (characteristic) heavy-handed bad faith sabotage, game over.

A "summary" of the allegations was stated by her to be truthful. And no deception was detected on that question. This is not Passed a lie detector.

There's a lot more to it than that. Even on the one question, they don't bother to tell us what the "summary" was and whether it was specific to Judge K. There's a lot of fake news on this story. Its a FUSION GPS Op.

A "polygraph" test result is nothing more than a couple waveforms and some audio/video recordings.

Sometimes not even that, just written notes accompanying the meter output printout and some kind of summary report.

It's not like some freakin' Scan-tron sheets got passed through a grading machine here.

So forgive me if I don't believe in the alleged provenance of some alleged test allegedly administered by this alleged accuser's own alleged attorney.

We've sent an invitation to Russia as well, and would welcome their participation.

Polygraphs are also about the question one is asked and context.

I've know an lot and am even related to one. I think in every single case the reason for them going down this path was so they could figure out what was wrong with them.
Posted by: clutch cargo

Throughout my life, I have observed this to be almost universally true.

Nearly ALL of my parents' friends were psychologists and therapists. And all of them

-- got divorced
-- went insane
-- had seriously screwed-up kids
-- joined cults or hippie-dippie "movements"
-- suddenly realized at age 55 that they were gay, then three years later suddenly realized they weren't
-- developed substance abuse problems

...or some combination of the above.

A friend my age got a Master's in psychology, became a professional therapist -- and promptly went completely nuts, paranoid meltdown freakout.

Etc.

I've never encountered anyone in the psych field who DIDN'T have their own serious psychological problems.

In your statement, you allow the possibility the smear by the Skank is true. That was why they did it. So reasonable people like you take even a moment to consider it happened.

If you were a supposed victim of attempted rape as a teen-ager, would you remember what *YEAR* it happened?
I'm just speculating, but would your entire view of your life be *pre-rape* and *post-rape*?
Wouldn't that incident fill your entire view of life?

The more one reviews this case and asks questions, the more obvious this is a farce from the beginning.

337 from what I read of her statement, if Kavanaugh never got drunk, made out with a girl and tried to take off her swimsuit...then he's a 40 year old virgin.

I mean, get drunk, grinding, groping describes most americans first 25 years of dating.

the rest of her statement is plausable deniably bullshit about her feelings. If she felt like she was going to get killed, then how did she not get killed? Was there a fight, police, hospital visits? nope.

This is like Coakley saying she got raped on top of broken glass from a coffee table. sure. show us the scars.

Polygraphs are pseudoscience. What do they measure? Various physiological variables. They don't detect lying, but physical responses that *seem* to correlate with lying.

The use is basically an intimidation tactic.

If you're interested, you can read how it easy it is to "beat" one. It's a matter of learning some techniques to just fuck up the "baseline" of responses.

And of course psychopaths, as has been mentioned, are capable of lying without conscious. It doesn't bother them, and they don't have the same physiological stress responses to blatant lying.

If the nominee had been a woman, it would be something else. "She set me up with a known assaulter in high school because she didn't like me" or "she sent inappropriate letters to a minor boy, who understandably burned them as a part of his therapy" or whatever else. The story changes to fit the needs of the moment, but the intent and message are very consistent and very clear.

Polygraphs are basically an American phenomenon. I think there is an element of the ol' voodoo principle. It only works if you *believe* works.

I think I remember reading that our spooks found out, I think it was Asians (from back in the Vietnam era and before) could "beat" them much easier than Americans could.

I'll see if I can find that. IOW, falling for it may be more cultural programming than any real effect.

I mean starting tonight, smear the ever loving fuck out of her, her

Harass them. Get them all fired from their jobs.

Find every single sordid link in the chain from this "accuser" to

483 I talk over the course of the weeks with a number of people who voted for Trump. These range from very strong supporters to people that may have voted for squishier republican had one been available.

One thing I haven't seen in any of these people is any movement away from Trump. If anything, they all have moved closer to him. I've heard on the news that some "experts" felt Trump's actions during the year-long McCain funeral turned some of his fans away. Other pundits thought that plea deals and convictions of people associated with Trump had "woke" Trump believers and shown them the liberal "truth".

As to the most recent news surrounding Brent Kavanaugh, the only thing I can detect in this original group of Trump voters is white-hot anger at the liberals for trying to smear such a distinguished person.

Mid term elections only attract a fraction of the crowd that vote in presidential elections. If this small focus group is any indication, they can't wait to get the polls to show how disgusted they are with the press and the left.

492 I'm late the party as usual for lurking, but a polygraph is basically voodoo.

In an 'honest' polygraph, you are being evaluated by the polygrapher from the moment you meet them, if not before. They are watching you for anxiety, avoidance behaviors, posture, hostility, that kind of thing. Also, you are being recorded on video from the moment you sit down with the polygrapher for the pre-test interviewer, who goes over any answers you might have supplied in a written questionnaire and any other related documentation with you. The polygrapher takes all of this information, what the person or entity commissioning the polygraph wants to know, and comes up with a 6 to 9 questions - 3 controls, and 3 relevant questions that are being looked at closely. The other 3 might be 'trigger' questions, like "Are you going to tell the truth?" or "Other than we have discussed, are you concealing anything relevant to the polygraph" or stuff like that.

You do a run through of the questions not on the machine. Everything is phrased as a yes or no question. Then they hook you up to the machine, and ask the questions in three 'runs.' They might ask questions in the same order, but usually they do not.

Here's the thing: the machine is not a lie-detector. It can't be. The machine doesn't know the truth. The machine only registers your body's responses to questions. That's it. It doesn't say someone is deceptive. Only the Polygrapher can make that determination. Remember what I said about being evaluated from the moment you meet? Yeah.
