Snow Storm - Steam Boat off a Harbour's Mouth
Joseph Mallord William Turner

Every time I look at a Turner I think something different. Sometimes it is awe of his fantastic skill at evoking elemental forces, and sometimes it's, "Huh? What the fvck?"

I think this bodes very well for Kavanaugh.

Now that the story has evolved into "severe intoxication" and "almost raped," it makes her look hysterical and unbelievable.

19 For this one I'll go with "skill at evoking elemental forces".

The date is in the link, which takes the fun out of guessing, but 1842 seems way early. When did Impressionism start? This might not quite be it, but it seems a precursor.

I like the absolute violence of the sea. The boat can only do the best it can do.

I will throw in a historical aside which pertains to the power of the sea. People talk about how coastal real estate is threatened by this storm or rising seas or what have you, but the fact is that sandy shorelines are always in motion.

In my emotional hometown of Scituate MA an 1892 storm moved the mouth of the big river five mile up the coast from where it had been.

That storm is called the Portland Gale, because a steamship, like the one pictured here, named Portland was caught up in it and all hands lost. Something like 300 dead.

58 The focus of this work is not the ship, even though it is in the dead center of the work. Instead, the subject is the storm swirling around it.

This is Romanticism. The Romantics focused on the darker forces of nature, human existence, and the Sublime -- a principle that makes art more than just a bunch of pretty pictures. Not that there's anything wrong with that, however.

Humanity was proud of its technologies and achievements. The Industrial Revolution and Scientific discoveries make Man proud. Deservedly so. But Turner is saying that human achievement is still nothing compared to Nature. The full force of nature can reduce human technology to a ruin at its whim. Turner is demonstrating this with the steamship, state-of-the-art technology at the time, struggling to remain afloat in a storm that almost hides it from the viewer.

When I passed it along in the ONT it was as I was hearing it, but it's starting to look like (thankfully) it was just bad RUMINT that got out. For reference, in the course of assisting with Florence relief efforts as a ham radio operator I heard late last night that some Cajun Navy members had been caught in a tornado and that there were fatalities, injuries, and some missing. It's now appearing that this did not happen, so mea culpa on me for passing what appears to be bad info along.

Kris,
Your Man needs to know PTSD is nothing to be ashamed of...he went places and did things that others would not. He did what had to be done. For that, those who live in peace owe him a huge thanks.
I tell every Veteran that when they get back, it's time to power down. If he is still on Active Duty, he needs to talk to his buddies. There is no better group to help him...and for him to help others. If he isn't, he needs to find a VFW chapter right away. And there is nothing wrong with calling the VA hot line (800-273-8255)
The VFW guys are top notch. The may have been in Korea, or Viet Nam or Desert Storm or Somalia, but they have all been there. They will help.
God Bless!

I believe that in the case of an animal, you can only sue for the market value of the animal, plus medical costs. You can't sue for pain and suffering, as harsh as that sounds.

However, if that person came onto your property to harm your property (that's what dogs are), then that might be different.

Immediately after Comey's firing Peter Strzok texted to his lover, Lisa Page "We need to Open the case we've been waiting on now while Andy (McCabe, also fired) is acting. Page answered, "We need to lock in (redacted). In a formal chargeable way. Soon."
Wow, a conspiracy caught?

261 From Dem perspective, this story - which will likely be unsuccesful in derailing the nomination - will pay dividends.

1. Look like they are going down swinging - base will be happy.

2. Motivate base ahead of voting. GOP just voted a rapist on the bench. Vote now more than ever.

3. Claim that future rulings are invalid.

4. Hope that Kavanaugh tries to run left on women's issues to not give credence to this smear - this should backfire.

270 Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

His response: "Yeah, that's exactly the kind of bar where (her name) would likely be found."

359 Turner's career spanned quite a number of years, and you can trace the precision of his eyesight in his paintings. Early works have stark images, often of the sea, often violent waters and skies.

Later works, the outlines of objects are still there, but they are dissipating, into a misty (or swirly) mixture of unique color and light.

For that was Turner's mastery, what he revolutionized in his work: the otherworldly use of colors, to depict water, sky, and objects in a way that had never really been done before. One could almost say he invented colors.

I could tell, without even looking at the date, this one was latish in his career. It's like the sweet sadness of Beethoven's deteriorating hearing. God gives a unique gift... and slowly takes it away. Both men used the most of their gift, while they had them though.

394 Can't quit you folks, not even for a day. Hear me out on this...

For everyone saying "if this works" (as in, Kavanaugh is rejected by the Senate), please keep in mind this smear tactic has already "worked" like a charm. Kavanaugh has:
- decades of exemplary service with not a hint of impropriety at any time
- literally dozens of witnesses who have publicly come forward, voluntarily, to testify to his character, yes even going back to high school
- been vetted several times by the FBI (who leftists tell us we should believe without question) with barely even a parking ticket to show for it.
He is, by all accounts, a saint, supremely qualified.

And yet, his nomination is now "endangered" by a single allegation of sexual misconduct dating back to high school - high. freaking. school. - leveled by a #RESIST leftist Psych Prof from a MSW-degree factory in Commiefornia, who is represented by a self-proclaimed member of the #Resistance (wonder who's paying her salary). The allegation itself cannot nail-down the place, time, or even year of this alleged assault with any specificity, is directly contradicted in key parts by the contemporaneous notes of her therapist, and is categorically denied not only by Judge Kavanaugh but the only person on earth who can evidently corroborate the story. Oh, and to top it all off, it appears the accuser's family had a run in with the elder Judge Kavanaugh (Brett's Mom), who presided over their bankruptcy proceedings - a fact which, if true, the #FakeNews WaPo chose to not share with us.

It HAS worked, folks. If they can endanger the nomination of someone who by all accounts is the proverbial Boy Scout with such flimsy nothingness, then this insanity will continue for any male this administration brings forward as a nominee.

Point of fact here: a lot of us don't even get to be old. So yeah, make the most of what you have, but sometimes its pretty arbitrary as to who gets what and when it gets taken away. So whatever life you have, yes its a blessing. But the taking away of things? No, often enough there's nothing sweet about it. Not even bittersweet. Sometimes it just stinks.

417 The fact that Kavanaugh's accuser can't nail down the time, place or even the fucking year when this alleged assault happened means that Kavanaugh can't come up with a credible defense. If she says, "it happened in this house", perhaps the people who owned that house could say they were on vacation that day."

480 If they do redo Mary Poppins, she will be a hot MILF with martial arts skills, a weapons expert fighting the banking patriarchy, with her wis black 'friend' (wink, wink) Bert, who has overcome the racism inherent in White societies to become the best computer programming, Doctor of Paleontology chimney sweep in the land. Oh, did I mention he would be played by Samuel L. Jackson?

"Say 'what' again. Say 'what' again, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, say 'what' one more Goddamn time!'

It is a family movie so we want only the best dialogue for our children.

Predicting that the narrative for this will be

"Mean Republicans force Woman to Relive Horror of her Sexual Attack !!!! "

At which point "mean Republicans" can pound the narrative with a desperately need lesson on due process and innocent until there is proof of guilt.

482 My take-away is that I have no chance to be a Supreme Court judge, if HS behavior towards women is the new standard.

The highly successful Lois McMasters Bujold always asked what the worse thing she could do to Miles Vorkosigan. Mostly, she delivered, and it was great stories and writing. She did not use That Idiot Ivan as a foil to whisk his true love away in A Civil Campaign.

Maybe you can use that on your way to the HugoDragonCon Awards.

485 redbanzi what makes you think Kavanaugh will be ok? We don't have the votes if Flake and his accomplices vote no.
