Former Trump Aide Michael Caputo: I Know Who the Op-Ed Writer Is

"She."

Not only did "she" hide behind an anonymous op-ed instead of quitting, she tried to pin the blame on her colleagues, leaving several hints in the piece that led analysts to different officials in the administration. She published the piece now in order to affect the midterms and impeach President Trump, Caputo also suggested.

...

Caputo left listeners a few other hints about the op-ed author’s identity:

"It's par for the course for her strange personality."

"It's dangerous to fire her because of who she's related to."

He added that the writer is "arrogant" and sees herself as "Captain America."

I think I know who he means. I'm not saying I know this; I'm saying that last week a rumor went around conservative circles, and he either heard the rumor too, or he was one of the people starting it.

Per the rumor, and comporting with Caputo's "it's dangerous to fire her because of who she's related to," the claim is that it's Mitch McConnell's wife Elaine Chao, current Secretary of Transportation.

I'm not saying it's her. I'm just saying I've heard the same rumor floating around, and Caputo seems to be referencing it.

I don't put any stock in that and I don't put any additional stock in it just because Caputo is hinting around it. But I figure if people are hinting at it, you might as well know what they're hinting at.

Actually, to be accurate, it's Captain Marvel who is a woman, although Captain Marvel is more of a title, and has been played by both men and women in the past.

Captain America has always been a man, which isn't to say that Marvel wouldn't mess with that in the future.

This doesn't demoralize his supporters or pull anyone away from Trump that wasn't already opposed to him. It does give his supporters vindication "see! the swamp all really is out to get him!"

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the NYT at some point in the future floats an idea like "Gee, we really wish we could tell you who this was, but we can't, see, because we've got so much gosh darn journalistic integrity, but you'll just have to trust us that it was actually a false-flag op by someone close to Trump to get his crazy conspiracy theory supporters to believe the Deep State thing."

Posted by: joe, living dangerously at September 12, 2018 02:43 PM (KUaJL)

112 Well ... this shit keeps up ... and its going to put paid the notion of the editorial being fake.

I get the logic behind the theory, though. A fake op-ed to sow dissension in the ranks is absolutely something most media outlets will do.

Here's the deal as I see it though ... alot of what's going on right now only makes sense if there's ALREADY dissension in the ranks.

I think Trump has had to deal with a Fifth Column from Day One - I also think he stepped on his own dick by picking most of them himself and not firing many others when he had the chance.

I just don't think Trump is infallible ... and I'm wary of those that speak of him in Kim Jong-Un terms.

I do think the man is playing a Hell of a hand with the cards he drew ... and is getting better pretty quick. He's doing a better job than I ever could.

I would have went Kim Jong-Un on a bunch of their asses by now. AA gun and all.

The way they mess with that is they refer to him as Captain Rodgers instead of Captain America. You notice they also took away all his patriotic garb in the last movie. See in this case the character's problem is that he's supposed to represent America itself. Which is why they tried making him a Nazi or Uber-Leftist in the past. Depending on whether he was the hero or villain that month.

But the biggest problem is that by running it in the Op Ed page they get to disclaim and duty to stick to "truth."

So the facts can be faked, but they get the effect of "news."

227 152 just from recent memory, Chao/McConnell have most of their wealth from China ... via her family directly (like $18M transfer), not China investments. BUT that still is a very convenient way to transfer pay to play money.

yeah, no idea what she has done on the job, but while McConnell is good on the judges, he and Ryan also jammed through the omnibus ... huge increase, no accountability.

But spending big money is the way to win elections still. (except on the wall ... a rather major point of contention with tea-party hater, "we're not gonna build no steenkin Wall" McConnell). McConnell is open border open trade globalist, which serves China's interest.

This is the same bunch who put out a video last week where one woman said Kavanaugh on SC would (literally) kill her, and another, uh, non-binary person said that Kavanaugh could just wipe out her existence.

They are not thinking rationally, not at all.

379 Magically over a period of about a week Trump's approval ratings dropped about 10 points and generic democrats are up by 14 points. For no apparent reason.

Gonna be an early night.

Or not: Rasmussen
PDJT 45% (today - been between 44 and 49 for a couple of weeks)
"Generic Ballot" 46% D, 42% R (recall that the Dems need +4-5% just to keep the seats they have now because of gerrymandering)

385 I do not think it's Elaine Cho.

First that would be an incredibly reckless and dangerous thing to do on her part for several reasons, least of which, her husband is the a majority leader and if she wrote it he knew about and if he knew about it and let her publish it then he is effect endorsing the sentiments.

If someone actually in the administration wrote it, something I doubt, it was more than likely someone in state or the diplomat corp.

I vote for Hunstman, he has a certain cocksuckerishness to him, he's part of the morman mafia and GOPe in his DNA.

And, right now at least, he's too much of a big-wig to need to PRETEND to be important.

If he wanted to go Resistance, he wouldn't do it anonymously with a silly gossip letter. He'd jump in front of the cameras and accept the applause and adulation.

399 I really like the Huntsman theory. The exalted self-regard, combined with the strange lack of self-awareness; the gap between how he expects others to perceive him and how they do.

Remember how he spoke some Chinese at one of the debates, just to let us know he speaks Chinese? Then, when people made fun of his strained showing off, he complained about how his rivals were anti-intellectual, and they think it's a bad thing to know another language?

Yeah. It would not shock me if that guy wrote the op-ed, then thought, This is the thanks I get for silently saving the Republic? Guess you must not want it saved, then.

I could easily see Team Romney making this move. She throws Trump under the bus in gambit to set up (oh please GOD NO!!!!) another Mitt Romney run in 2020. 404 Can I take a minute to vent about how angry that anonymous op-ed made me on a professional level?

I work in state government. I'm not big and powerful - just a cog in the government machine - but I recognize that I'm one of those people who dictate how life will be in my field here in the state, through no fault or choice of the citizens who pay my salary, in full or in part. I actually take that sh*t seriously. I am not in my job to further some BS political agenda. I am here to carry out my job in compliance with applicable state, federal, and local laws, and I genuinely TRY to make it easier for the people I work with to do all the crap we require of them as quickly and efficiently as possible. I don't like government, so as someone who WORKS in government, I understand the frustration and the aggravation, and I try to live up to the idea of the "public servant" rather than the public leech.

To that end, I make it a point to NEVER talk politics in the office. I've erred once or twice, but to me, as a g-ddamned bureaucrat, allowing my politics to in any way influence my job is disgusting. I see co-workers who wear their union t-shirts and Women's March lapel pins and Bernie Sanders bumper stickers like a symbol of pride, and it makes me sick. I have SEEN these people shirk or disparage the duties that come across their desk when those duties are the result of legislation or legislators they don't like.

It makes me so ANGRY.

So when the NYT published that op-ed, I saw red. Here was someone who wasn't, allegedly, just a cog in the machine. The most I can do in my role as a low-level schlub is to slow walk some report, or "lose track" of some request; the bureaucratic peon equivalent of Blue Flu.

But this op-ed author has a high enough, secure enough position that they are actually claiming to impact nationwide policy directives. That's not someone being patriotic; that's someone being underhanded and duplicitous. That's someone acting as a de facto President despite having zero authority to do so. That's someone hanging up their "I'm With Her!" placard in their office cubicle and wearing a "Fight for 15" t-shirt to the company picnic and then claiming to be a neutral, nonpartisan public employee. It's a blatant, self-serving lie. It's a gross misuse of the authority they've been given as an UNELECTED government official.

Working in government, if you aren't a leech or a leftist (BIRM), isn't about doing what you think is best. You're in your job to do what is in your job description.

If I'm an auditor, my job is to examine financial reports to determine if there is the potential of fraud. It is NOT my job to say, sans evidence, "You know what? I think we should audit the Obamas. I bet there's a lot of dirty laundry just waiting to spill out."

If I'm a social worker, my job is to follow-up on reports of child neglect. It is NOT my job is to say, sans impetus, "We need to initiate a hearing to remove custody rights from (insert conservative parent here). Their demonstrated transphobia in published remarks make them a clear and present danger to their children."

If your job includes counseling the President on policy matters, fine. But "counseling" and "deliberately misinforming, misleading, or willfully withholding information from" are very, very, VERY different things. This person has very clearly forgotten that distinction, to the country's peril.

410 MWR, #404:

Thank you for this wonderful comment. I'm saving it - it would be a shame not to be able to reread it, sometime down the road when I've forgotten which post it was.

I read of a professor who had a student ask him, "You're a conservative, aren't you?" He answered "that I was disappointed he could tell, because I try to present all views fairly and leave my own in the background." "I know," the student said. "That's how I could tell."

And the thing is, I know liberal public servants who feel as you do as well. I know they're out there. But sadly, these sentiments you express so well are coming to be considered a political position in themselves, and they damn well shouldn't be. It's an ethos, and one worth defending.

412 If it is Chao, I guarantee someone at the Times will leak it before the election. Confirmation that it's Chao will infuriate Trump and his response will bring him into a hot war with McConnell. In short, it will throw the Republican Party into chaos and create a perfect firestorm to distract the voters from the booming economy and other issues that typically drive election turnout and results.
