The Morning Report 9/10/18

CoryStoke.jpg

Good morning kids. L'shana tovah and a happy new year of 5779 to members of tribe and all the good gentle gentiles here at the HQ. With that out of the way, a new week is upon us and there's lots to cover so let's get to it.

Right up front, I want to start with the economy, because the Democrat-Left-Media complex who will ignore, embargo, bury it or otherwise lie about it can't escape the truth as evidenced by our lead link. And yet, ex-Prezd'nt Kenya Kona Blend who had the unmitigated temerity to claim that the economic miracle we are experiencing is a result of his 8 year Reign of Error. Considering that for virtually all of that time as he implemented policies that spit-roasted the Golden Goose, he told America to lie back and enjoy it as the days of prosperity and the American Dream were over. Funny how now that we are 18 months into a spurt of growth that is breaking records he attempts to do a victory lap. Mark Levin "rectifies his delusions" on this and all his other bullshit from Friday point by point.

The left can rage, flail and scream all they want but there's just no getting around the fact that day by day since this President was inaugurated on that wonderful January day in 2017, paychecks are getting fatter, "Now Hiring" signs are popping up everywhere and a sense of real hope for a better future for ourselves and our kids is visceral across a broad spectrum of the populace. And this has gots the Dems scared out of their minds as we head towards the homestretch into the midterms. More on that in a moment, but on to our lead topics which are holdovers from Friday.

First up, the White House is reportedly closing in on the anonymous saboteur who penned that puerile op-ed in the NY Times, and as the net tightens Dem Senator Chris Coons has called on the deviant in question to resign and come forward. Either he thinks the author is a courageous patriot who deserves to be at the forefront of the resistance or he thinks the op-ed was a disastrous fiasco, especially given its dissonance when compared to the economy outlined above.

Right up there we also have the equally disastrous fiasco of the attempted high-tech lynching of Brett Kavanaugh. All it did was to expose a couple of the Democrats 2020 presidential hopefuls as ridiculous, inept clowns. Worst of the bunch was Cory Booker, the closet(ed) organizer from New Jersey. Daniel Greenfield notes the swiping of lines directly from vicious anti-semite and racialist Stokely Carmichael. And of course Nancy Palsi's dentures clattered out the "put y'all back in chains" dreck should Kavanaugh be confirmed. Meh, the whole thing's pathetic if not instructive. Also, a considerable sum of money has been raised in an effort to threaten Susan Collins into voting no. Looks like extortion to me, but I'm no legal eagle. Lastly, the Dems are right to be going crazy about this nomination since much of their ability to institute policy is via hacks-in-black who declare that which is unconstitutional, illegal and contra the will of the people totes kosher. I can't wait until a batch of bad kale and/or a 5 pound box of See's truffles means one or two more hearings in the next 6 and a half years (please G-d).

And all of this dovetails nicely into the realm of politics where Ben Sasse is an ass, Claire McAssKill's future hangs in the balance with the Kavanaugh vote, this Sean Casten in Illinois is a punk, more analysis of the 2020 Dem hopefuls and yes despite all the good news since January 2017, we all still have to get out and vote this November. As a way to give us all an "ootz" I give you the Mayor of Atlanta who is the latest to refuse to cooperate with ICE. Time to Holder-ize her police department and toss her ass in jail for insurrection.

Speaking of insurrection, in Mewler-gate news, PDT may be close to declassifying the Carter Page and Bruce Ohr documents, Maria Butina got mishandled (not mist-handled) by prosecutors and PDT is on point about the Deep State and the effort to sabotage his agenda. Lastly, the danger posed by the New York courts to Trump and his family.

On the international front, PDT sends a conciliatory message to Whoa, Fat! noting the absence of nuclear missiles at a NorK parade, the Chi-Coms are pissed about PDT punishing nations for abandoning Taiwan, with the anniversary of 9/11 tomorrow we're still involved in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Syria, and the 25th anniversary of the Oslo Accords reminds us of how Yasser Arafat successfully convinced the Palestinians to renounce "tourism in all its forms." Feh.

A mixed bag of domestic stories, Illinois taxpayers are getting a sizable chunk of change back thanks to the PDT tax cuts, Connecticut workers are suing the SEIU for back dues (thank you, Janus), Leftists want to rewrite the Alamo, a Latino NYC principal wants to say no to "the Juice" at his school, the EPA has lost 1,200 jobs (aww), and Sandra Fluke is kicking herself for missing a Royal Navy shore leave in Florida.

From hither and yon, CBS is less one Moonves, even Tubby Riefenstahl thinks Camera Hogg's a jerk, John Kerry is clueless, two good pieces about Kaepernick including a Gold Star mom challenging him to meet her at her son's grave, and lastly an essay on Serena Williams revolting display at the US Open. It just crystallizes in so many ways how our society went off the rails starting in the 60s and really at warp speed within the last 20 years or so.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

39 Good morning everyone.

Inre JJ's lead item.

My undergraduate degree is in Economics. One of the things my professors held to tightly was the dogma that there is a delay period between making macroeconomic policy changes and actually seeing those changes take effect. It was right up there with Comparative Advantage.

Well, I have to say that recent events (as in over the past two years) have made me question that dogma. I believe my professors would have counseled caution if not outright denial that immediate changes would result in an economy rebounding like ours has done.

Yet here we are.

So I'm now of the school that the lag period is not some immutable economic law. Economics depends on a lot more than policy (hard core econometric-type opinions to the contrary), but is in fact grounded in no small part to public perception, opinion, and all those other messy subjective undefinable things. The perspective of the population has more to do with economics than I think many economists are even comfortable admitting. Yeah, Krugman - I'm looking at you.

Bottom line - when the population has hope, when it has the idea that dreams CAN BECOME REALITY and the only limiting factor is their own ambition and drive, then good things happen. I think we're seeing that now, and I also think it started when Trump delivered that inaugural address.

THIS is how you make things better for the Common Man. Not policy. Let the population go free, and things WILL get better. We're seeing it right the hell now.

And this is the best argument against the socialists/communists now infesting the Left.

Useless posturing. While I haven't followed all of their issues with Kavanaugh, I know they've tried to claim his legal analysis of several issues (done while a lawyer under Bush2) somehow conveyed not just his reading of the courts and/or the law, but also secretly revealed his innermost personal wishes for the direction of SCOTUS and therefore he should be disqualified.

85 Economists are best at explaining why they were wrong yesterday. Inputs at the bottom of the economy, like personal.tax cuts amplify broadly AND immediately.

Which is why I keep hoping for some politician to "END WITHHOLDING". The moral and political implications aside, the.effect of what would essentially be a loan to everyone at the base of the economy would be enormous. The argument that the effects would be slow was frequently brought up.

Naming it the TRUMP effect.

87 Abolish ICE?

Hell, after that policewoman shot her neighbor we should abolish municipal police departments. They aren't doing anything anyway. Look at Chicago.

That Somali idiot in Minnesota, who shot and killed the white Australian woman because she startled him, never should have been hired as a cop in the first place. Two PD shrinks who evaluated him in his training red-flagged him because he couldn't handle stress and didn't deal well with others. And early on, he was caught not responding to dispatch calls he should have; he would ignore the calls and drive around in circles instead, so he would not have to be the responding unit. Guy was obviously a timid, nervous, cowardly bitch, but they hired him and gave him a gun anyway because . . . diversity!

It'll be interesting to see what kind of background this TX woman cop has. Something similar to the Somali, no doubt. But she was hired anyway, because . . . female!

Meanwhile, on Fox last week Tucker Carlson did a segment asking what "strength" diversity actually gives us -- and the left went crazy. How dare he question leftist orthodoxy!

Numerous studies have shown that the more homogeneous a society is, the higher the trust levels among the population, and the lower the conflict. So asking how "diversity is our strength" is a legitimate question, and one that should have been asked long ago.

88 I think there's a lesson in the Ocasio & Pressley story. Republicans need to put someone up in every district. Sure, the overwhelming majority will lose. But, given the socialist moment in the Democrat party*, once in a while it would be an opportunity for lightning to strike. And that itself would be a story.

I've never cared for the strategy - especially but not exclusively associated with Karl Rove - of just writing off those places we cannot win right now. It's long term poison.

*Strictly speaking, "Admittedly socialist moment" would be more accurate.

Yeah, not seeing it on MSM - only saw a tweet about it. Here's what I could find:

Police said early Monday that the man, also armed with an iron bar, stabbed seven people, including two British tourists, near a cinema on the banks of a canal in the northeast of the French capital late on Sunday night.

The injured were all taken to local hospital, where their conditions were described as "serious but not life threatening."

The assailant, reportedly an Afghan national, was chased by a group of people before police arrived and captured him, according to witnesses.

And their 2018 platform seems to be let in all the illegals to live off the taxpayer, crush the middle class, gov't is your daddy, repeal tax cuts, boo G*d, anti-semitism, anti-white, anti-man, trannies in your little girl's bathrooms, whizzing on the American flag, crapping on police cars, eff the Constitution, criminalizing free speech...

How anybody could want to vote for that escapes me like a diet plan in Michael Moore's house.

Good morning everyone.

Inre JJ's lead item.

My undergraduate degree is in Economics. One of the things my
professors held to tightly was the dogma that there is a delay period
between making macroeconomic policy changes and actually seeing those
changes take effect. It was right up there with Comparative Advantage.

Well, I have to say that recent events (as in over the past two
years) have made me question that dogma. I believe my professors would
have counseled caution if not outright denial that immediate changes
would result in an economy rebounding like ours has done.

Yet here we are.

So I'm now of the school that the lag period is not some immutable
economic law. Economics depends on a lot more than policy (hard core
econometric-type opinions to the contrary), but is in fact grounded in
no small part to public perception, opinion, and all those other messy
subjective undefinable things. The perspective of the population has
more to do with economics than I think many economists are even
comfortable admitting. Yeah, Krugman - I'm looking at you.

Bottom line - when the population has hope, when it has the idea
that dreams CAN BECOME REALITY and the only limiting factor is their own
ambition and drive, then good things happen. I think we're seeing that
now, and I also think it started when Trump delivered that inaugural
address.

THIS is how you make things better for the Common Man. Not policy.
Let the population go free, and things WILL get better. We're seeing
it right the hell now.

And this is the best argument against the socialists/communists now infesting the Left.

Look the whole Republicans are racist canard was literally created out of whole cloth because one fucking Presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater, was against the 64' civil rights act.

The only fucking reason the Civil Rights act of 64' passed was because of Republican support.

Goldwater was right about the 64' act by the way but that's a discussion for another day.

Meanwhile the Democrat party was the party of slavery, segregation and Jim Crow and responsible for the destruction of the black family.

Everybody knew that Jersey was largely dependent on out of state drivers for a lot of their gas sales. They bet most of those people would not go away when the price increased. They were demonstrably wrong. Now that tax is mostly impacting NJ residents. Duh.

231 To Have a Prayer of Winning the Midterms, Republicans Need to Start Talking to Their Neighbors (I'd say "not losing" is more accurate than "winning" - jjs)

Makes me think of how much has changed. When I was a kid, everyone knew everyone in our neighborhood. I slightly know those on either side of me, but other than that, no one. But I was a boomer. Everyone in our neighborhood either were parents of kids - and thus knew each other that way - or grandparents, which had the same effect. (The old couple next door were particularly nice.)

So, are we unusual, or is this advice hard to follow nowadays? There's also the problem of having neighbors who are Trump haters. When I was a kid, dad's best friend among the neighbors was a 100% New Deal Democrat; they loved to drink and argue. And that applied to a less extent to others. Nowadays I know only one left wing guy I can talk to. Women, in particular, then to avoid that kind of conflict.

I was in McDonalds one day last week and when I walked in there was a loud conversation going on at one table. What few words I could make out seemed to be about sports so I blocked the noise and ate my meal. The last words that registered, just before a sudden silence was, 'get out of my way'.

I saw the shadow of someone walking out and the thought occurred to me that I should sit on the other side of the table in case that individual was going out to his pickup to get a shotgun before returning to settle the argument.

I went with the odds and finished my meal and left.

I don't know about that but you can do a search for Serena Williams throughout the years and she was thin with an athletic build, only slightly bigger than her sister when she was younger and now she looks like a linebacker and this is even before she has her baby.

And as I said upthread, woman have an incredibly hard time packing on muscle and lose muscle and strength at a greater rate than men.

She more than likely is taking a steroid, probably anavar and/or proviron, which are a very mild anabolic/androgenic steroids.

And since she is/was pregnant she probably has access to certain fertility and hormonal drugs that would mask this a lot of this.

I say she's taking something.

A pair of top Republicans acknowledged in a private meeting that the party was battling serious vulnerabilities in the midterm elections, including what one described as widespread hate for Mr. Trump, and raised the prospect that Senator Ted Cruz of Texas could lose his bid for re-election because he is not seen as likeable enough.

324 Sad Trombonist at Instapundit wrote this:
There is one small part of the Marxist world view that infects the "true conservatives", and that is their sense of historical determinism. That comes straight out of Marx, the idea that impersonal forces will bring about the Greater Day. It's not that conservatives want that to happen. In the words of William Buckley, their job is to stand athwart history, yelling "Stop!" But notice how much ground Buckley has already ceded to the Left in that little quip. He's basically admitting that we're all on this passenger train called Marxism and it's going to take us where the Left wants us to go and there's nothing we can really do about it.

Except yell, "Stop!", that is.

It's like watching a video of a pompilid wasp take out a wolf spider. The wolf spider sometimes tries to fight and sometimes doesn't. Sometimes the wolf spider just gives up at the first deadly caress of the wasp's antenna. If the spider mistakes the wasp for lunch and turns aggressive, he has a much better chance of winning the encounter. But watching the video, you can feel the hopelessness. The outcome is predetermined.

That's what I always got from National Review, going back to the early 1970s when I got my first subscription. Back then, the writing was good, the bullpen was full of remarkable talent, and the prescriptions for society were generally pretty well thought out.

But many of them were former communists and, I'm certain, carried this pessimism into their editorial stance. James Burnham. Max Eastman, Whittaker Chambers. Frank Meyer. These men were the giants of National Review who weren't named William Buckley. Ex-communists, all. Chambers even wrote that, when he left communism, he realized he was no longer on the winning side. It's the same sort of feeling you get from Norse mythology, the idea that you will do your duty, fight hard when Ragnarok arrives, and then lose to the ice giants and demons. As Corporal Stitch Jones says to Gunny Highway, "Major Powers wants us to die in a loud, grotesque, military manner."

As CS Lewis noted, Norse mythology gives us the notion that we should fight for the good even when the bad guys are destined to win. I think a lot of conservatives are so wedded to this gallant notion, that fighting and winning is entirely discounted. Why, how dare Trump even suggest we can actually win this fight? No, Donald, sit here and wait for the sting, like the rest of us.

What do you mean, you won't? We're supposed to lose, dammit! You think you know this script better than we do?

This sense of historical pessimism isn't biblical. We face losing political battles, but the apostles kept their heads high while walking into crowds where they knew they'd be beaten or killed, always preaching the Good News. The most predestined thing, ever, is that the Lord will cast Satan and his demons into the Lake of Fire and save His people from their sins.

We have no business being pessimists. We should be happy warriors.

He is described as right wing and populist, and has a stance that would make a number of people here sit up and pay attention. He sounds like Duterte.

He was stabbed by an single attacker (some sources say there was an accomplice) who had been a member of the same Socialist party that ex-president Lula headed. However, apparently the attacker has been described as "mentally unstable" and officials can't find a reason for the attack.

Recently ex president Luiz Lula da Silva had been excluded from this race because it was decided a candidate couldn't run for office while in prison.

This sort of attack is unusual in Brazil, I am told.

Liberal whites across Texas have taken this on as a messianic movement - they have completely traded in whatever shreds of Old Time Religion they used to have and bought into the New Prog Religion. Did you serve?

I do not believe your statement is correct, agewise.

378 I didn't like McCain but I did not feel one way or the other about his death. I won't be able to say the same when John Kerry kicks the bucket.

380 Atlanta Mayor Orders Termination of ICE Relationship (arrest the mayor, nationalize their police department - jjs)

Ah, yes. The same mayor who put a local rapper on her transition team, who was shortly thereafter arrested for causing a public disturbance.

Coming soon: Detroit on the Chattahoochee.

382 I can relate to the "British swarm" story... That same thing happens or has happened countless times where ever a large naval vessel has ever come into port especially a port away from home after some long days at sea. Been there done that! The trick is keeping your head down and your wallet open. Cash does wonders to sooth the local population.

You're a lying piece of shit. Over and over you've been told
JJ's age. You really need to get banned.

384 Uh nope, seems to be a tradition to simply eliminate
the opposition in that country. This is only unusual in that it
happened in a national election, the rubouts are usually confined to the
local government races.

Kerry was a hero to all the wanna-be writers of the world. I mean ''in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Kahn?''

Who writes that poorly?

This a million times. Even if they take the world, they can't keep it. It isn't theirs. Time has numbered their days. They are not destined nor predetermined, they are a temporary error in the march of history.

392 Apparently, including even one conservative voice on Facebook's roster of approved "fact checkers" is too much for liberal partisans in Silicon Valley. Case in point: As the Guardian reports, the social media giant's decision to formally include conservative magazine the Weekly Standard (a magazine best known in recent years for its staunch #NeverTrump stance) on its roster of fact checkers has prompted an outcry from liberals who have accused the site of bending to criticism from right-wing groups.

393 Contrast and compare: Trump accumulated a personal net worth of 3.1 billion dollars over his lifetime. Obama pissed away a Trump-sized fortune of the nation's wealth every single day of his 8-year presidency.
