The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

September 11th 2001 was a singular event in American history, and one that should be respected, not used as a facile and inflammatory analogy for other events. "This silly and culturally unimportant event is like 9/11" should be stricken from the style guides of every columnist and pundit and assorted ass-hat who chooses to trivialize the murder of 3,000 Americans. And part of me suspects that the construction is purposeful, to shrink the attacks down to a forgettable size, to make them just another bump in the road to the new world order that so many enemies of America desire.

Too much of our current recognition of the attacks are a maudlin paean to loss, rather than a cold and brutal reminder that we are in a war for our very existence. Perhaps "9/11" should be more closely aligned with "Remember Pearl Harbor," with its martial connotations and call to arms.

This date evokes in me a cold fury, that we were attacked, that we have not yet brought the full weight of our culture and might to bear on those who would destroy us.

Yes Mr. Schlichter, we are still killing them, and we are not beaten. But a renewed attention to our martial spirit is in order. I am confident that our armed forces are up to the task, especially with the cataclysmic shift in the oval office, but the focus is still on surgical strikes and guarding the delicate sensibilities of the soft and effeminate West, at the expense of American blood. Too many Americans have died because of this attitude, and it is long past the time at which we move to a real war footing. The lives of Americans must be considered more valuable, and must be preserved. If that means that more civilians in far-off lands are killed as a result of actions against our enemies, then so be it. It is time to take to heart the phrase, "America First," not as the isolationist organization that collapsed just days after Pearl Harbor, or as a KKK slogan (which is just what the media wants), but as a reminder that we have the right and obligation to defend our national interests against all attacks, and to place the well-being of Americans above all others.

People are talking about the path to 9/11. If you want to watch a documentary that will make your hair stand on end, watch the Frontline (yeah, probably the last honest thing PBS journos did) "The Man Who knew." It is really, really interesting, with a twist at the end that Hollywood couldn't write. And, yes, The Clinton Cabal had numerous opportunities to stop this tragedy.

11 Sept 11 2001 did have a profound effect on me.
For one thing, I was determined to understand Islam, as much as I could.
So, I read the Koran and the rest of the related books.
(You can find English translations on University of Virginia web sites.)
It was then I understood that Islam is out to kill me and mine.
And that I, as a Christian, was commanded to love them.
That caused a real moment of epiphany.
A moment that hasn't ended.

30 9/11 was curious for me, in that it started so good. I get to work, and the boss asked me if I wanted to take an early quit. We usually worked four tens, but the engineers needed a die grunt in on Friday so they could play with the machines. I took off after word was coming in about the towers, and what the hell was going on with flight 93. I get home, and my old Polish landlady was outside. I expected her to be upset, and she sure was. Some of the coldest emotion came from that old gal. "We have to find out who did this, remember Hitler, and hit them harder".

31 Tough day for me, well, all of us really, so I'm just popping in to say I'm praying for all who died on this day in 2001, especially for those who numbered among the family and friends of the Horde. Living close to Dulles, and hearing the fighter jets overhead, and having no idea who was attacking us or why, I wondered if my kids and I would see my husband again. I was never so thankful for homeschooling as I was that day, having all my kids right there where I could see them.

Anyway. May God hold close the souls of all who died that day.

32 Very good rant. Thank you, CBD.

I aver that Iran is the strategic center of our problems. And we do not need to stomp it flat.

All those Qud Force outposts like in Yemen, the Red Sea, and Syria, are vulnerable.

They are vulnerable to MOABs, but more importantly, they are ripe for raids.

Jam communications. Send in Delta. Seals and Force Recon, with ParaRescue in overwatch.

Kill everyone. Everyone. ID the bodies. Take their computers and paperwork. Analyze and go on to the next target.

Most importantly, tell no one. Do not let the Press know.

The Qud Force will have morale and strength diminished. More importably, this force in one of two keys for keeping the leaders in power in Qom. Start knocking the external supports for best results.

And get the Crown Prince ready.

Turn the other cheek has limits. Minor insults and injuries are to be borne, but nowhere is the scripture does it say "lay there and die".

There's a time for every purpose under heaven, according to Ecclesiastes 3, and according to the Lord Himself, a time to sell cloaks and buy swords, and a time to drive the moneychangers out with a whip.

Love for your fellow man must also include wanting to liberate as many as possible from the demonic ideology that oppresses them, and this is a task that cannot be accomplished with any amount of kind words or forbearance.

84 What kind of deterrent is killing people who view death as an improvement to their current situation?

Posted by: Brian in New Orleans

Brian has a point. So, here are some modest proposals for dealing with their dead:
1. Rendering plant, mixed in with pig guts, to become fertilizer.
2. Watertight body bags, to be filled with pig blood
3. Tie pork chops around their necks

Killing quickly and in large numbers tends to raise the deterrence effects. See Japan and theory of MAD.

88 It was about this time of the morning, Milady and I headed to town, leaving the kids (teens) out at the ranch.

I can point to exactly where we were on the drive when I flipped on the radio, and someone said, "Rush is okay. He's at an airport in Florida." That was weird.

Then there was something about refineries in Mexico being shut down. I began to suspect something of a major scale had happened.

Then the newsjockey gave a full replay for those just tuning in.

"The World Trade Centers are gone."

We didn't yet have any more info than that, not even the how, but I knew right away. And I cursed them.

We turned around immediately to go back and inform our kids. I specifically said, this will be your Pearl Harbor. I've had no reason to change that dramatic assessment.

89 He is right about the command to love them. He didn't say that we should roll over and die. Remember that God delivering the Hebrews into the hands of their enemies and near destruction was an act of love. Paul persecuted Christians before his conversion, it is salvation that is ultimately important. The martydom of the early Christians and how they treated their oppressors is worth serious study.

90 >>>but as a reminder that we have the right and obligation to defend our national interests against all attacks, and to place the well-being of Americans above all others.

A critical mass of Americans may no longer have a survival instinct. It's been conditioned out of them. Their own children are slaughtered and they think it's OK if immigrants were the perps. I can't be optimistic until I see some sign that this trend is being reversed. I can't imagine the family of an Israeli victim of terrorism saying "this isn't an Islamic problem, it's a toxic masculinity problem". The US seems on the wrong course as far as developing a survival instinct. At this point I'm more optimistic about Israel's long term survival than ours.

135 From HuffPo, here's a headline for you:
Sweden Is What Happens When Liberals Let The Far-Right Set The Agenda

The article also says the nationalist party - the Sweden Democrats - has its "origins in the neo-Nazi movement."

This is the HuffPo, so I figured I'd go look for myself, as I don't follow Swedish politics all that closely (I know this is bupkiss for UKIP and AFD). It looks like it is sort of like National Front in France - it was a party with a whites-only plank, but they dropped it and moved on starting about 20 years ago. Some of the main platform planks:
- Tight immigration control, repudiation of multi-culturalism
- Anti-Euro (currency)
- Some "family values" conservative planks (or they would be called so here) surrounding adoption (no single people, no homosexuals) and families (don't take kids away from parents unless seriously justified)
- Climate-skeptical

So based on a cursory reading (no primary sources were involved, so a heap of salt is warranted), I would describe this is a "right" party - not a far-right party. Sounds like a party that would do well in several US states. The "far right" in Europe tend to be authoritarian fascists or royalists. This is still a democratic party platform from what I have briefly read. Looks like any conservative party are the Nazis, even "over there."

Unsurprisingly, the Mullahs have been even more clueless, corrupt, and heavyhanded in dealing with their own country than our ruling class has been, here. So no, its not snuffed out, it's growing. From what I read, Iran today is much like 1967 America, but with a far more repressive and brutal government. But the Government's biggest problem is that they've blown all of the money they had, they don't have the ability to buy groups off anymore, and insurrection is in the air.

And even though we are all still angry at the Saudi's for being the source of the 9/11 plot, we still need them right now as the tip of the spear in all of our moves against Iran. To deal with this we've got to think like medieval warlords, yesterday's enemy can be today's ally, and then back again. But the Saudi's have finally gotten scared enough to start doing a lot of things that people thought impossible, like starting up a de-facto military alliance with Israel and cutting off their support for the Pali's.

One other thing I think Trump and Mattis did was encourage Israel to strike Iranian-backed Syrian rebel (IIRC), after Obama kneecapped Israel for 8 years as well as set up a "deal" in which the US was to protect Iran.

Trump is doing stuff to Iran in all sorts of ways outside of getting into a war with them to topple the regime.

In the West, our rulers try to push the narrative that whatever you want to be, you are. If you are male and identify as female, we should pay for your surgery to become pseudo-female. So, let's just take it a step further. Jihadists want to be dead. Who are we to deny them the outcome they desire? And we can pay people to help them on their way, too.

As disgusting as Jimmah Carturd was/is, I think Islamic Fundamentalism became more prevalent simply because Nasserism and other Leftist approaches in the Muslim World fell apart.

Before the Islamic World was jihadist, it was full of secular Leftist nationalists who earned their laurels throwing the colonialist powers out, but then proved incapable of running their countries.

not counting the troops in Germany ... for them "it's been seventy years". Or South Korea, Japan.

We can keep our international presence, maybe downsize the bases, but upgrade our capabilities. Most war now is PsyOp and economics. We can get the Greens to win in Iran if we get Europe to stop trading with them till they change. That makes more sense than war ... if NATO is really our ally.

Same goes for playing hardball with China and Mexico ... but China is the one we may need to divorce completely, since they are communist and building an army, with our trade deficit money.

The war is internal, and globalism and their "Strength thru Diversity" motto is a lie of the enemy.

"Someone needs to stand up and defend the Establishment. In the last couple of weeks, there's been too much pseudo-populism, almost too much concern and attention for, quote, the people -- that is, the people's will, their prejudices and their foolish opinions. And in a certain sense, we're all paying the price for that now. After all, we conservatives are on the side of the lords and barons...

...there will always be an Establishment in a system like ours. The task is to make it a decent Establishment, and not just pretend that the voice of the people is always right. And Islam in general has been at war with the West in general since, what, 700 AD? Too long to let an enemy crawl around behind our backs and skulk in our bushes. Time to do something savage to them. It's as hard to realize that we didn't turn Mecca into a glass parking lot, as it is to realize that we made it to the Moon, more than once, didn't lose a single astronaut on the flights -- and then turned our collective back on space exploration and exploitation.

The BernieBro in my writing group, age 72 (!) and a Vietnam vet (!!), still thinks wind and solar power can supplant oil, coal, and especially nuclear. 181 130 Where was I that day?

I was out of work and had been for about a month. So I'd used the time while job hunting to finish a mystery novel I'd been working on. I typed the words "The End," got up to get more coffee, turned on the TV . . . and saw the towers burning.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 11, 2018 11:40 AM (/ZWeB)

I wonder if we'll have a Where Were You thread later. I'll just repeat it if so.

I was at the university that day. I had two classes to go to that day and made sure I showed up because I'd skipped one of them the previous week so I couldn't risk doing it again. I always got there early and then went to the library to read before class started. Since I got there early and immediately went to an isolated area of the library, I had no idea what was going on. Only when I went to class did I hear about it. There was a kid with headphones and a portable radio/cd player (I assume this was before the doodads we've got today), and he said there's been some sort of an attack. Other people coming in later said one of the WTC towers had come down. Fuck. In retrospect I should've just left but again I skipped a class the previous week and didn't want to risk getting in real trouble so I sat the whole thing out. By the time I got to the car, every radio station was covering it. I suspected it was a big deal, but only when I heard all the stations covering did I really realize this was something unprecedented.

Justified violence is not prohibited by Christians. If you have no choice but to die at the hands of your enemies (and no I'm not asking for the priviledge), it's better nonetheless to die bearing witness, praying for them and for yourself.

But that's nothing about not defending yourself to the utmost, or destroying those who are trying to destroy you.

So yes, Jim (99), what's the problem with loving and saying a prayer for the guy in your sights?

The quicker we kill every man, women and child of Islam and deliver them to hell, the quicker we can end this war and save American lives in the process. This war is a crusade, our enemies understand that; it is way past the time where we should understand it also.

If some here don't agree, tough. It is a fact.

But in the West, you have to give credit to the Christians who defeated the Moslems at Tours (or was it Poitiers?) in 700, the Spanish who took back Spain and the Normans who reconquered Sicily. Lots of Europe was on it's way to going Islamic.

Two lessons from the Byzantine Empire:
1. Christendom was not united, even then. Fourth Crusade and the Lombards, anyone?

218 Well, I'm not trying to convert you, but it's not about turning the other cheek. It's about hatred vs. love. Someone quoted Lewis (Chesterton?) here the other night, about hating someone being like taking poison to make them sick.

* * *

I think this is essentially right. Love and forgiveness are for the sake of the person doing the loving and forgiving as much or more than the loved or forgiven. Ever meet someone with a chip on his shoulder or who is genuinely angry at the world? They're poisoning themselves. We love and forgive so that we can be at peace and experience joy in our own lives when it shows up.

Nothing about that is incompatible with self-defense. You can need to shoot a man; relishing shooting the man is the problem.

244 Always seemed t'me that...

Jesus' advice on turning the other cheek was about evangelism, dealing with someone in a way to open their eyes to the Spirit by your show of restraint and forgiveness. A person who is salvagable won't take the second hit, you see. It's a conversion ploy. You have to assess the person and context. It's not a tactic for dealing with hardened enemies.

I found the best example of love your enemy even if you must kill him in the Bhagavad Gita. (From long-ago memory of a translation by Yogi Ramacananda or something like that.)

Before the great battle, General Arjuna is taken to a high point and allowed to see through the eyes of God (Krishna, playing Arjuna's charioteer).

Arjuna now sees that the souls on both sides are all his kin, and asks how he can possibly fight.

Krishna advises, first, you can't kill souls, just bodies.

But importantly, General Arjuna, the battle is on, unavoidable, inevitable.

If you don't lead, then your side will lose and all on your side will be slaughtered. You will lose all honor.

If you do lead, your side will win, and all of the other side will be slaughtered. Now, get down there and do your duty.

Sometimes love your enemy means make sure it's a quick, clean kill shot.

Seems t'me.

We men of the west fight wars fundamentally different from the other cultures in the world was the premise, with many examples.

254 That's part of the weird game of life.

To be a good warrior, you gotta be a good killer. As Scogg and others have said, you need to be able to hate your enemy.

Hate may be poison but so is booze and so is most medicine. Sometimes hate is what you need.

The fact that so many people need to 'interpret' the turn the other cheek doctrine seems to me to be...fuzzy. I think it means just what it says. And there's power in a man who can do that. And martyrdom. Sometimes martyrdom is the plan.

It's just not a plan I'm down with.

Die trying.

I see those imbecilic "Coexist" bumper stickers and I think, "Yeah, that's what I want, too. But what do you do when there are others who would cut your head off if you didn't submit to their death cult?"

Short answer is: "Nope. Not gonna happen. My life was peaceful up until you attacked me. I have the right to self-defense and I will use it with no qualms if you persist."

"That's the only warning you'll ever get. Attack me again and watch what happens.

To you."

Actually, maybe not such a short answer.

We tried that. In Afghanistan -- which had a decent civil society 50 years ago -- and Iraq, which had one before Saddam. The locals don't want it.

281 I don't have any interesting story about 9/11.

I remember Bush the feckless bellowing his empty rhetoric about the terrorists hearing from all of us. I remember the blizzard of flags. I remember the crying that we are all NYC now.

Then I think of what we could have - and should have - done, both overseas and domestic. How we might have crippled the terrorist threat and put the fear of God into the left.

And now I watch as mosques with known, documented ties to terror are protected by the very agencies who are supposedly dedicated to protecting American security. I watch as a day that saw the most devastating attack on American soil become a day for empty theatrics, partisan shrieking, domestic hatred and weepy candlelight vigils.

And, as Ace constantly points out, I watch as a death cult which brutalizes women, rapes prepubescent girls and trains children to kill is not proscribed but legally elevated to an untouchable status afforded no other religion in this country.

Bin Laden cut America's throat. The Democrats took that knife and joyfully drove it into America's heart.

Never understood why GBII went after Iraq.

Everyone seems to forget that Saddam Hussein was awarding over $25G to the families of jihadis and he was instrumental in training them.

Look up "Salmon Pak airfield" to see if the fuselage they used to train jihadis comes up.

We should've nuked SH's palace, in addition to Medina and Mecca. Then told those goathumpers that if there's another terrorist attack upon America or Americans anywhere in the world from that day forward, we'd reduce one Arab country to glass in retaliation.

Had we done that (shown that we were the strong horse and weren't going to submit in any way), we wouldn't be treated like terrorists here at home. And we really could live in peace like we used to.

Muzzie Bros must be RICOed.
Posted by: mustbequantum at September 11, 2018 12:13 PM (MIKMs)

Here's how I remember it. Folks can chime in and add or throw fruit...whatever.

But of the 'axis of evil' powers (Iran, Iraq, North Korea), Iraq was the one we had the best shot at.

North Korea is defended to fuck with mines and arty and starting a war there means killing a lot of South Koreans as well. Then there are the nukes, not high quality but...there they are, thanks to Bill Clinton. So not a good offensive choice, bad guys, but hard to hit safely.

Iran is bigger than Iraq, population and geographically. It also has/had a relationship with Russia which added to the fog and complication. It's also on the other side of the gulf and the only 'ally' we'd have would be Pakistan...which turned out to be a VERY mixed 'ally' indeed. So we'd need to do an amphib landing, take and hold territory. A big, grind-y land war, expensive in US lives and also likely to be ugly to the population. The population also would likely rally around the Mullahs, which would complicate regime change and might make the war even uglier. So Iran is a better target, a more guilty target, but also hard to get at.

But Iraq...
Saddam had pissed all of his neighbors off, except Syria. The invasion of Kuwait had isolated him diplomatically. We had troops nearby and we'd been bombing him off and on and maintaining a 'no fly' zone. Saddam had also been a supporter of terrorists, though not the Wahabbists (not until after 9/11), so he was guilty of being a bad guy. And his party in Iraq was the minority. He wouldn't have as many friends willing to rally to his cause, it was thought.

And, keep in mind, we'd just gotten thousands of dead Americans delivered to us. Doing nothing was NOT an option, unless you're ball-less Barry O or his ilk. And Afganistan, though with blood hands, had fallen too quickly and easily but was going to prove to be a long term uplift project. Not satisfying and not likely to affect anything internationally except to destroy the training bases and the Taliban.

So...Iraq.

Moreover, one doesn't need to hate to kill or to be willing to kill. One only needs to kill to kill, and there are many sound reasons to do so.

It went from a Westernized RICH banking capital... hell RESORT community.

To third world backwater war zone, in just a very few years from 79 to 83. I know, I literally watched it happen.

Could have been the perfect target ... the problem was "W" - and his stupid fucking notion of a Middle Eastern Marshall Plan.

(By the way, I've really been working on trying to go with Alliteration and/or Rhymes in my verbage).

Losing one troop was too many - but the losses in Taking Iraq didn't compare to shit to the losses trying to Reform Iraq.

We could have deposed Sadam, put in a bastard of our own choosing, and left to let the Sunnis and Shias butcher each other. We should have.

Also - Tommie Franks has stated that the original plan was to take the Republican Guard, intact, and use them to hold everything together. When it was time to do so ... the money to pay them wasn't released.

Same here. But I've been thinking that for a couple of years now. It appears as though MBCT's 2-headed offense might become equal to their much-feared defense.

If they don't slip up early in this season, I see them going undefeated and cruising to another NatChamp. They've been getting off to a ragged start these last few years and have come close to giving me another heart attack, which I'd rather do without. Two was plenty.

Given that Jahidi camps are populated with individuals who have declared their intention to wage war on me, have an ability to do so, and have done so, I'm perfectly down with bombing the shit out of as many as we can identify.

I didn't wear some ridiculous outfit that I would think made me cool...I wore combat boots and dress uniform when appropriate. I am sure you would laugh at me Miss Millionaire.

I weep for our lost country men and women. Far greater souls and patriots than you or I could ever imagine.

405 September 11th 2001 was a singular event in American history

Yes and no. It was also the continuation of the 1993 WTC attack.

Rick Rescorla certainly never forgot it the '93 Terrorists. It was a semi-dry run for Sept. 11, only failing to level the Twin Towers then because of bad bomb-engineering. And despite an able prosecution by Andy McCarthy, it was basically shrugged-off by the Establishment.

Which, in so many ways, is the story of our times.

410 Fen - Kindergardeners are a true gift for any bus driver. Thank goodness (and the good Lord) that your husband has that joy, awe, and fun. As they get older and older, not so much joy.

Posted by: mustbequantum at September 11, 2018 01:01 PM (MIKMs)

411 380 Yeah, you have to unbuild a nation before you can rebuild it. This is why I have soured on our military interventions abroad. We don't do them right. "

And the core problem with Iraq, Afghanistan, and the other middle eastern states is that they were never "nations" at all, in the western sense. They were just collections of tribes and religious sects held together by whoever was tough enough to keep them in line through sheer brutality, and whenever someone like that wasn't available they collapsed back into civil war and chaos.

That's why "democracy" was a ludicrous, ridiculous dream - it could never be possible in states like this.

Posted by: Tom Servo at September 11, 2018 01:01 PM (k1TUh)

412 383 Your rulers love the poppy fields. Their product debilitates weak people in the West and makes billions upon billions for them every year. What are the best sources of income for our masters? Taxation, drugs, war, and debt based currency. They don't give a shit about who dies as long as it's not them.

416 I never got orders for the training school to blow a country OUT of the Stone Age.

You can't with only bombs, though a willingness to kill many instead of drone attacks and smart bombs helps.

But large swathes of the middle east became Hellenized after Alexander's wars, and that culture endured for some time, to take only one example.

You'd have to approach Islam that same way the West approached Nazism - deislamification. You have to replace one culture with another by force. But the West has lost any sense of transmitting its values by force.

Look, the area of the world we are talking about was once almost entirely Christian. And that endured many centuries into the Islamic conquest. When the first Crusaders arrived, the majority of the population in the near east was still Christian, just under Islamic rulers (who weren't initially interested in conversion due to the poll tax allowed on non-muslims).

But over time the muslims rooted out those Christians and changed the culture of the area.

It can be done, because it has been done in that region repeatedly. Hell, look at pictures of the middle east from the late 60s; it wasn't like today.

We just aren't willing to do so. And maybe we shouldn't be willing to do so, given the costs. But if we aren't, we should just admit that to ourselves and stay home.

The Turks would continue to be a problem...but it was the events of the fourth crusade that sealed their fate - after the Komensos restoration they were no longer in the verge of collapse anymore.

Had teh crusaders gone to Cairo as planned they likely would have failed to do much...based on other, better led, attacks. But the Byzantines wouldn't have spent the next 60 years fighting their fellow Christians in the Latin Empire....
