I don't know if it was dumb luck, or if Nike knew what they were doing, but coming out with this campaign at the same as the confirmation hearing has to be serendipitous for them because they're ONLY down 34% favoribility.
Gotta say, though, it's oddly amusing to watch leftists defend a company that infamously used child labor in third world countries to avoid having to pay higher wages in the states. They're basically the type of "evil" corporation they despise, overcharging for a product that cost significantly less. But it's okay because they stand with Colin Kaepernick. On some other social media platform Progs were doing what Progs always do - telling people how to spend their own money by way of slander and taunts. In this case, they assume that "Trumpsters" will be burning their Nike shoes and thus this Lefty commanded them to "Donate your shoes to a homeless vet". (note the ham-fisted stereotypical manipulation of "homeless vet") I think we should return the favor as a Win/Win/Win. They can virtue signal their love for Nike and buy those $300/pr shoes, then allow someone who is in the process of "turning their life around" to curb stomp the Prog for the shoes, and the little hoodlum will have his set of shoes by way of the usual vector of acquisition. Courage. === It was recently revealed that some Nike merch ostensibly manufactured in PRC was actually farmed out to the Norks. I've gone back and forth between Saucony and New Balance. It's important to be able to try them first, and also to know your goals. I am currently wearing a pair of New Balance shoes that were supposedly the newer model of a pair I'd had a couple years back. These are comfortable, and durable, but they suck as running shoes - they're at least 50% heavier than the old 880s. They're massive. So they're now walking/kickaround shoes. The last pair of Sauconys I had was a mistake, they were lovely comfortable things that felt like you were running on Sarah Jeong's breasts, but they were so lightly made that they wouldn't have lasted me three weeks. So they went back, and I took Sarah back to the Japanese Army brothel (oh yeah, this is the alternate universe where white guys did NOT save Korea from the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere). Alex, I can highly recommend the late model Buick Regal. I've had one for 4 years now. It has been fantastically reliable, cheap to repair and gas up, fun to drive, they look at a glance like a small BMW, and give you 75% of the fun-to-drive factor at 50% of the price.

Buy a German car and you should set aside a min. of $1250 every year for repairs, doesn't matter if you need them or not. If you get through the year without a $1500 repair, odds are you'll have a $2500 one the next year. The whole Kapernick saga, all the energy is against what he did. Which is why it was a stupid business decision.
How many vets, law enforcement, (and family members) ,rank and file patriotic Americans, etc. did he piss off versus the few "black panther" type African Americans that loved what he was doing? Clearly the NFL cried uncle when they saw what it was doing to their brand that WAS universally admired. I'm sure some middle of the road types that hate Trump are faking support for Kaepernick, but I would argue before Trump waded in, even a lot of Democrats were offended at someone wiping their ass on the American flag in that way. So they alienated the vast majority of Americans for the 12% or so that also think OJ was innocent. Posted by: Maritime at September 06, 2018 02:04 PM (UfkIY) 488

I read yesterday where Puma and Adidas both wanted Copanic but were outbid by Nike. It's commies all the way down. -- Seems like the Left not only undertook the long march through the institutions, they also devised a plan to head major American companies to do some pretty heavy SJW pushing. All these companies...it's one executive decision after another to throw in with the leftist crowd and alienate a huge percentage of customers. They seem not to care. And it's now happening at a rapid clip. Or so it seems. It was so condescending. Posted by: bicentennialguy at September 06, 2018 02:02 PM (vg8iE) In most of the world a Mercedes Benz is not a chi-chi car, just the local equivalent of a Chevy. I don't think the Nike disapproval number means much though unless it also translates to sales. I disapprove, but I haven't bought a Nike shoe in more than a decade. I bought some Nike athletic shorts five months ago; first time I've done so in 15 years. Even if I boycotted Nike it would apparently mean finding another brand of shorts to buy a decade or more from now. These consumer disapproval numbers are like polls of registered voters or worse. Only people who matter are folks who buy Nike or reasonably would have, not random assholes who answer their phone for pollsters.

The op Ed doesn't sound like anyone senior wrote it...it has an "as told to and half-imagined by me" vibe - like those trolling personal stories ghosted by a pro who wants clicks, in the ladies section of the Daily Mail ( e.g don't hate me because of my beauty privilege" featuring some rather ordinary looking blonde.)
So if there is any source at all beyond imagination, it's probably a kluge of intern whisperings filtered through a clerk and the possibly Woodward himself or someone like Jeong. The tone is overwhelmingly feminine, which isn't to say a female wrote it. Posted by: SarahW at September 06, 2018 02:20 PM (Sp1NT) 549

So far, my favorite canard from this affair is that "Nike knows its customers and they're not old white men." Its repeated endlessly and even some conservatives have bought into this line of fake reasoning. Let me tell you something...
I'm a fat, 50 year-old white male with a fitness obsessed wife (one of us has to be) and two active teenage boys. Now, I haven't bought a pair of Nikes for myself since high school (don't like the durability or fit) nevertheless I presently have 15 pairs of Nikes in my home that MY WIFE AND I paid for. That's over $1500 worth of shoes before I even account for the Nike shirts, shorts, and socks I've bought for my boys. I'd guess my wife and I have spent north of $5000 on Nike products since my kids were born and we've been "old white people" by liberals standards the whole time. Evidently, the folks out in Oregon think that these hipster soy-boys that stroll into their urban Nike stores are representative of their customer base. WRONG. I'd bet dollars to donuts that 80% of their sales come from Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sixpack shlepping into Dicks, Academy, or some mall shoe store to by their kids new kicks for school or sport footwear. Their customer base isn't who they think it is. But they are about to find out... good and hard. Posted by: ZonToro at September 06, 2018 03:21 PM (dCHJd) 561

"Their customer base isn't who they think it is. " I sincerely doubt that. But their goal is not the CURRENT customer base; it's the FUTURE customer base, which is going to look and act like CK.
If you bought $1500 of Nike stuff for your kids, why? Because they asked for Nike stuff, right? YOU are not the one making the brand choice, your kids are. When you say no to buying any more Nike stuff for your kids, they're just going to buy it with their own money. Traditional America is just about over, and Nike will make money p!ssing on it in the decades ahead. Posted by: gp at September 06, 2018 04:57 PM (mk9aG) 564

"When you say no to buying any more Nike stuff for your kids, they're just going to buy it with their own money." They aren't exactly flush with cash and they have priorities other than shoes. I don't see many kids on the Nike aisle at Academy without Mom or Dad.
Note that Nike's favorability among Gen Z (18-22) fell from 81% to 51% and among their parents Gen X (their parent) it fell from 75% to 39%. My observation of my sons Gen Z peers is that, for the most part, they are not down with all this PC nonsense. Corporations with access to skads of data make dumb mistakes all the time. Most are mono-cultures enslaved to their own corporate group-think... worker drones afraid to tell the emperor he has no clothes. I'm sure Nike is no different. I've worked with many of the top brands in financial services, and you'd be hard pressed to find a senior executive with enough common sense to fill a thimble. The Fortune 500 is in almost as bad shape as the Federal Government in that regard. Posted by: ZonToro at September 06, 2018 09:05 PM (dCHJd) 566
