I loved my dad dearly, but the two services we held (a memorial service in SC where he died and was from) and a graveside service with military honors in FL where he was buried in my mother's family plot, were more than enough to handle emotionally. McStain's Multiple Memoriae aren't for him. They're a royal procession for Arizona's next hereditary senator and an opportunity for the press, the RINOs and the Dems (BIRM) to indulge in an orgy of Trump-hating. If this worthless, backstabbing, corrupt bastard had been Senator John McDickweed from Alabama, a backbencher who never had a word to say about Trump, he'd be lucky if they didn't just wrap his body up in a plastic bag and put it on the next bus out of town. It's to transport the immune cells and repair cells to the surface of the brain. Maybe that's the origination of our headaches? The tunnels get pressurized for what ever reason and that causes the headaches as they already know that what headaches are is pressure on the brain. So relax and take some blood pressure meds or some saw palmetto. Don't lay down too long cause that can give you a headache also. Posted by: jakee308 at August 29, 2018 12:26 PM (nwORd) 42

But I doubt it will last long as a kerfuffle, or have much effect. Actually an opportunity to attack the dishonesty and racism of the press and the Dems - but even in the Trump era the latter thing is off-limits, still. Posted by: rhomboid at August 29, 2018 12:36 PM (QDnY+) 110

while MSM indulges in using the McCain funeral to trash Trump (heck, even McCain did that) ... most people recognize Trump was not welcome and mostly stayed out of the picture.
So as when Brit Hume tried to trash Trump for not showing McCain some (undue) honor, even his friends told him to drop the politics. Most people know that funerals are for family, not to lash out at old grievances, and the media demanding some act of contrition from Trump is just nauseous. It was Obama that made everything about him ... Trump is just staying away ... but that is not enough for "them". Posted by: illiniwek at August 29, 2018 12:39 PM (Cus5s) 126

The minute Gillum won the primary, every leftist new org immediately started writing racist screeds about DeSantis.
It was unavoidable. I swear that ppl can be influenced mentally if enough ppl are thinking the same thing. Every reporter had to be hoping that DeSantis would say something they could blow up into being racist. He just gave them a softball. The key is to not try to explain it away. This is where Reps always go wrong. They feel guilty when they shouldn't and apologize and think they can explain themselves and get it to stop. But the press never stops and the left never stops. Better to just say I misspoke and then ignore it from then on. Eventually they give up. Posted by: jakee308 at August 29, 2018 12:40 PM (nwORd) 129

Since finishing his PhD on organizational cultures at the Aalto University School of Economics in 2010, he has engaged in transdisciplinary projects with artists, philosophers and natural and social scientists in order to construct cultural, economic and political solutions to the ever-deepening global environmental crisis. One of the driving questions for him has been: how is it that the material world, with all its diverse beings and relations, seems so disconnected from our everyday lives, even though our culture is said to be "materialistic"? This disconnection is most obvious in the political and economic spheres, which are driven almost solely by economic abstractions. blah, blah, blah... Huh, will you look at that. We've been screaming for ages that we need nuclear plants and that "renewables" like solar and wind are terrible solutions. Now they're finally admitting "renewables" are terrible solutions, but saying they're our only choice because we shouldn't use fossil fuels (the environment, don't-cha-know?). The leftist principle is: "If you state a truth, but somebody might conceivably draw wrongthink implications from it, you should not be allowed to state the truth".
That's why whenever a terrorist attack occurs, they try to avoid mentioning the name, or when they do, they say he was a lone wolf suffering from mental issue. Otherwise people might think all Muslims are terrorists. That's why Bill Cosby took such flack for pointing out that the responsibility for the misery of urban black communities was the fault of those communities themselves. That's why they bury over stories of crimes committed by illegals. This story is in the same vein. If antifa are evil thugs, you cannot state that fact, because some people might perceive them to be black, and then they might have racist thoughts. Because of this possibility, the facts must be censored. Always try to second guess the readership. Never give them the benefit of the doubt or hold them responsible for their bad inferences. Just insulate them from the facts. It's a moral imperative, and should be the law of the land. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at August 29, 2018 12:53 PM (/qEW2) 201

Well, if one wants to be honest, you have to wind things back to 2003, when there was a guy named Bush in the White House, and he had a shortbus full of dumb advisors, and so we stuck our military dick in crazy and the end result was that every time Bush needed fifty cents to fund the war he had to cave to Pelosi and Reid on everything else. So yeah, I blame Bush for Obama, who was probably top-to-bottom the worst President of my lifetime (dating back to JFK) but he at least knew what he was trying to do. That what he was trying to do was remake this country in Bill Ayers' image is immaterial. That we may never know whether he or his senior staff were in the pay of the mullahs is only slightly more germane. Obama was competent. It was a malevolant and evil competence, but he was competent. all that nonsense about using a carbon tax to redistribute wealth ... no, it cripples industry and funnels the money through the government/UN mafias. Trump has the right approach ... make the US stronger ... America first ... other countries want to advance, they have to throw off their commie dictators to do business with US. The Bush Doctrine was supposedly about spreading "democracy" ... but largely by force, even as we turned China into a wealthy superpower and sent jobs to commie regimes ... not the way to do it. we have more oil than we thought, and natural gas ... but also a LOT of coal. the global warming crap wants to shut that down, which hurts the third world more than anyone.
I couldn't care less about the Third World, and frankly disparage the tendency to push back on leftist rubbish by saying their policies hurt the Third World, or women, or some such. Huh? Ultra-violent means gay now?
Whenever I hear about an ultra-violent home invasion "robbery" where all the family is killed in a horrific and showy way, my first thought is drugs, not gay. I know there's a HUGE amount of domestic violence in the gay community, but that's usually black eyes and emotional damage, not decapitations. Posted by: bonhomme at August 29, 2018 12:55 PM (9qZ3S) When it lurches into homicidal violence, it tends to be really, REALLY bad though. Think hundreds of stab wounds, this shit, etc. Although you can say that about any relationship that turns deadly. Usually you can tell it's someone close to the victim due to the level of violence committed on the body. A stranger isn't going to stand around and stab someone sixty times if they're interrupted in a robbery. An angry lover or a disgruntled family member will. I have to amend a comment yesterday. I said Graham wasn't stupid, which made his friendship with McCain (who was, pretty much) somewhat mystifying. That statement about losing is sheer idiocy.
So a clumsy candidate who runs a terrible campaign against a parody of an empty-headed lying cardboard cut-out opponent, and loses, is some kind of model or teacher? Because he gave a typically stupid and craven concession speech to someone who predictably went on to dynamite American interests and institutions? Graham has achieved "progressive" levels of unwitting self-parody. Posted by: rhomboid at August 29, 2018 01:22 PM (QDnY+) 371

Sounds like Desantis is taking the right approach - rejecting the ridiculous suggestions of bigotry. Just do that every time it's brought up, and use it to launch into your key arguments. Not that hard.
And yes, the race-baiting and racism - which have rendered the US a shell of the country it once was and could be - will now be ramped up to eleventy, out of desperation. Limbaugh read off some pretty stunning Harris survey results on overall satisfaction (life on right track, etc) numbers for blue-collar Americans today. Extremely high numbers, almost surely well above the long-term norm. Given the income distribution/ethnicity matrix, black Americans will be over-represented in that kind of survey, I would guess. The specific black voter approval #s for Trump track with all this. Panic button is being eyed nervously by the Dems, I think. Posted by: rhomboid at August 29, 2018 01:30 PM (QDnY+) 422

Posted by: Cheri at August 29, 2018 01:34 PM (oiNtH) Origin stories of this kind are never needed and almost never done well. We don't need to know why the Joker became the way he did. It's better that we don't, because our imaginations are certainly going to be better than what they actually put to paper. This is part of what Nolan's Dark Knight did so well. It's not clear that he knows exactly how he came to be the Joker. That's so much better than opening Schroodinger's box and revealing the truth. China advanced its economy and uses coal as cheap energy. Not sure they really helped their workers or those breathing the unfiltered smoke.
But I read some article on Africa, and how they need the cheap energy ... even if they are not that smart, they can use coal for pumping, developing at least some industry, even if it is run by "smarter people". The political side might mean the turn commie, and maybe we could have a hand in that too ... or maybe that would require a return to S Africa style apartheid, idk. Zimbabwe now wants the farmers to come back ... run the tractors and all, but they need to get rid of Mugabe and the tyrants as well. cheap energy is helpful, maybe necessary, but not sufficient (alone). What DeSantis actually said:
"Let's build off the success we 've had on Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state. That is not going to work," DeSantis said. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at August 29, 2018 01:44 PM (+y/Ru) ----------- There is not one thing wrong with this statement. I bought a "real weather balloon" mail order when I was a kid. It lasted a day. Posted by: Grump928(c) at August 29, 2018 01:46 PM (yQpMk) I ordered the 8 foot spooky ghost to "Scare my family and friends" Make it fly make it swoop! It was a white balloon with a sharpie face drawn on it, a large white garbage bag and about 20 ft of black thread. Blow up the balloon, tape it to the garbage bag and tie the thread to the balloon knot. Throw the thread over the limb of a tree and hide behind the tree and jerk it up and down( the ghost that is). One pull into the branches....POP! Screw you marvel comics Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at August 29, 2018 01:52 PM (ymnmz) 532

Itvnever helps. They just take the ground that you cede to them, and come right back for twice as much. Why the Stoopid Party can not grasp this simple fact is beyond me.
Posted by: Calm Mentor at August 29, 2018 01:48 PM (I16G Same reason why the Evil Party can't figure out why sending pallets of taxpayer cash doesn't buy friends. They think they're gifted with special powers of persuasion that will make them immune to the fact that appeasement doesn't work and never has. I just wonder. Was CNN always this bad? Did people just not pay close attention before? I remember the multiple "technical glitches" during the Bush administration where they'd flash LIAR on the screen or something like that over and over.

The Romans had a long series of insane and egomaniacal corrupt emperors - -and yet still managed to conquer the known world under their rule. "
Actually the conquering was done by a combination of military geniuses (Julius), political geniuses (Augustus) and then held together and solidified by some damn good serious soldiers. (Vespasian, Trajan, Hadrian) They put together a system that was so strong that it took 350 years of idiots to finally destroy it. (and even then there was always a good one every few decades who could fix some of the right, like Constantine) "The Germans actually made tremendous scientific and technological breakthroughs int he '30s and '40s -- " And they were riding the coattails of what had been done in the previous 50 years. It's almost more fair to say that almost every serious scientific, military, and technological breakthrough that America made in the 30's and 40's, including nuclear weapons, was the result of the work of German scientists (mostly Jewish) who had fled the 3rd Reich and come to America for safety. The space race between the US and the USSR in the 50's was mainly a contest between the Germans who were captured by the US at the end of WW2, and the Germans who were captured by the Russians. If you want to see how badly Hollywood portrayed Blacks a few decades ago just watch some old movies.
-- Or any new movie marketed to blacks. Or any recent episode of Saturday Night Live. https://www.hooktube.com/watch?v=AX7rliyPF48 Posted by: Moron Robbie - I choose to live my life as a black woman at August 29, 2018 01:54 PM (oNuis) 538
>bad headache
I used to get those and it turned out their were migraines (I always thought migraines meant blurred vision). After complaining about them, a fam member w/ chronic migraines told me it wasn't just a headache and referred me to a neurologist who studies headaches. Neurologist confirmed I had migraines but said I caught on early enough that they shouldn't become chronic. Figured out the likely trigger and don't need expensive meds to prevent them (just OTC stuff to stop it when I feel one start in early stage). If you're getting "bad" headaches, go get checked out and find how to prevent. You certainly don't want it to become chronic (as my fam member can attest). Or any new movie marketed to blacks.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. Every "black" movie is basically a festival of the worst stereotypes and negative images of blacks in a 90 minute spectacle. What the hell? They call those 70s movies "Blaxploitation" but the portrayal of blacks in those movies was heroic and positive, with strong characters and real people. This latest stuff is just awful.
