Been on a jury just like that; one of the counts really just came down to "he said/she said" and we couldn't agree on that one. Given the previous counts, he probably was guilty of it, but there was no evidence and it wasn't proven, so I personally could not find him guilty.

But assuming he is convicted on something how does he not have a built in appeal - jury was not sequestered so they can see all of the media circus and the implied (and probably some actual) threats if they don't vote the "right way". 231 IIRC, in the trial of Branch Davidians, one of the defendants was charged only with illegal possession of an explosive device, to wit, he admitted that David Koresh had handed him a hand grenade, which he took but didn't use but rather hid as soon as Koresh turned his back. The jury convicted him on this charge because they didn't want him to get off scot free and expected that he would get the 18 month sentence. Then they were shocked that he was given a 40 year sentence. The foreman said if they had thought that he would get that, they would have acquitted him.

Which just goes to show, don't convict someone in Federal court unless you think they deserve the maximum sentence because if they are not popular, they might well get that.

Well, it's not like they can dispute the documents submitted. If they were going to do that, they'd have done it when they were submitted.

They weren't going to put Manafort on the stand and subject him to cross examination - if you believe he was guilty of even a lesser charge.

So basically they let Gates testimony stand - "I wasn't as crooked as Paul - and by the way - I made a deal with Mueller."

322 I have been called for jury duty 4 times. Once for county court and three times for federal court in Columbia. why they call me to Columbia I don't know, they have a federal courthouse in Florence which is only 35 miles away. Columbia is to Hell and gone and the courthouse is in a shitty part of the city next to the governor's mansion with no eating places anywhere close.


I go in and sit until 5 pm and never get picked. Then they turn us loose in the middle of Columbia rush hour. And the max age limit for jury duty in federal court is up the individual judge. You have to be on death's door here for being too old.
