Chelsea Clinton: I Haven't Ruled Out Running for Office

The thing is, 330 million Americans have ruled you out, though.

From the Guardian:

"While I disagree with the president … I think my family … is being really well represented. But if that were to change, if my city councillor were to retire, if my congresswoman were to retire, my senators, and I thought that I could make a positive impact, then I think I would really have to ask my answer to that question [of whether to run for office].

"For me it's a definite no now but it's a definite maybe in the future because who knows what the future is going to bring?"

Svetlana Alexievich's "Secondhand Time"..... 55 Chelsea Clinton: I Haven't Ruled Out Running for Office

Sure. Anyone who has led such an accomplished life, as you have, certainly should consider running for political office.

I know a lot of people are against it but I would very, very, very much like to have a Constitutional amendment that prohibited some decent circle of immediate family around a political office-holder from running for office or getting any sort of a job in government, and I would make that prohibition last a good long time (even after the office-holder is out).

I am sick to death of familial political dynasties. This is an area where any sort of democracy falls on its ass and needs the aid of some Constitutional prohibitions. There is nothing worse than "democratic royalty". Really. Especially in a government that spends $4 trillion a year. Enough of this shit, already.

248 This should have gone on the last post, but work got in the way. It's high time we push back on what is considered entertainment. Back when Pretty Baby was made, there was some discussion about whether it was suitable for a child actress to play that role. I don't see any discussion about whether a young boy should have been in what sounds like a despicable movie.

Hollywood likes to forget the movie code of the late 20s. It was put into place because movie goers thought that too many of the movies were trashy. They wanted restrictions and groups, primarily church led, pushed the movie industry to institute a code for what could be depicted. Hollywood likes to think it could never happen again. It's clear that without restrictions, we soon wind up with soft porn, perversion and hard core violence being passed off as "entertaining". It isn't.

292 Hollywood likes to forget the movie code of the late 20s. It isn't.

I got into an argument with one of the "Adam Ruins Everything" writers about Vox. Their opinion was that Vox cites their sources, and that makes them a good resource. My argument was they often misrepresent what sources say, and if you look hard enough you can find an off the wall source to say any crazy thing you want.

I ended up bailing on the argument because the other person was clearly not going to admit Vox is crazy-pants.

Eh. What do I know?
