There are few better ways to show the left's incoherent ideology than "look at these stupid disgusting homophobic faggots."
Not the first time they tap into natural disgust with that lifestyle, won't be the last. Surprised the Republicans don't play the game tighter and better, but they're not cucks for nothing. Posted by: trev006 at August 17, 2018 07:06 PM (3Tn95) 5

I can't imagine much about Johnny Carson because I was too young when he was on air. I do remember he was a smile comic, not a laugh comic. My parents raised on the Pythons thought he was bland. Better analogy might be to Leno or to any of the 1990-ish SNL crew. They were funnier and edgier than Carson. They wouldn't have dropped this gay-baiting, either. Willowed:
I have also filed a brutal complaint with the Inspector General of the DOJ about the U.S. Attorney's failures to protect 1st and 2nd amendment rights with 18 U.S. Code 241. Here is the last paragraph of the complaint: In any case, the more than 140 years of failure of U.S. Attorneys to properly enforce 18 U.S. Code 241 has not occurred by accident, carelessness, or by mistake. Those failures did not occur because of sloppy work; the U.S. Attorneys did not mean to prosecute these cases only to fumble them away. Those failures are the results of deliberate and intentional choices on the part of U.S. Attorneys who understood exactly what they were doing. That is clearly unacceptable, unprofessional, behavior which is destructive to the Nation. Posted by: An Observation at August 17, 2018 07:16 PM (qY0tf) 53

Freedom of association - really a fundamental one, but one never formally discussed in distant times past because presumably it wasn't imagined to be at risk - really did take a body blow with the Civil Rights Act. Bake that cake, bigot.
But Mastercard (and its CEO and president, Ajaypal Singh Banga) can strong-arm Patreon into deplatforming a relatively inoffensive right-of-center commentator like Robert Spencer. I used to scoff at you guys who predicted an actual shooting civil war; mainly because I thought it was wish-casting. As horrible as that would be, it would finally stop the inexorable ratcheting leftward. Which seemed just too good to be true to me -- yeah it will cost about 10 million dead, but hell, they'll mostly be on the other side. Now I'm not so sure. This Mastercard thing has me re-thinking this. I need to buy some ammo, I think. I don't see any other way out of this. They deplatform and ban every conservative voice, and it's go time. I'm dotting all the "I"s and crossing all the "T"s. I'm taking every legal avenue open. Do I expect any of this to work? No, I think we are too far gone as a country for that to happen. For generations we had guest workers who came to harvest the crops, then went the fuck back to their homes in Meehiko to spend the winter months making babies and drinking tequila. Then we decided it was a better idea to let them move here permanently and bring all their uncles and cousins and children and dogs and cats and donkeys. The old way was better. Also, as with so many other industrial processes (and agriculture has become one), robotics is making huge strides. We really don't need hordes of alien farm workers to pick the veggies and fruits.

. . . and the destruction of Smyrna is one of the most hellish episodes of the 20th Century.
That's Robert Spencer's ancestry, there. Basically the Greeks had made a play to reconquer Asia Minor and failed, hard - because the Turks had Mustafa Kemal (an atheist btw) and the Greeks didn't. After the great spanking of the Greeks, the Turks and Greeks made a deal to "exchange populations". The Spencer clan (they weren't Spencers then obviously) were Anatolian Greeks. When the Spencers reached the port one of Robert's uncles turned back to retrieve some keepsake from his home. The Turks escorted uncle home and immediately shot him dead. Hard to blame Islam for this one, given Ataturk's own ideals. Easy to blame the Turks. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at August 17, 2018 07:48 PM (N1ZXu) 216

It is a teevee show set in Montana. He lives in Montana. There have been two flyfishing scenes. He fly fishes. He's not supposed to be watching it but if he were I would talk at him about it. For myself I spent a long time trying to decide whether it was stupid or I loved it. I have concluded that it is quite stupid and I love it. You have cowboys, ranchers, Indians, rancher politicians, Indian politicians, water rights, and land rights. All of the characters are awful. You have old Kevin Costner. His character is also awful, but it's Kevin Costner with horses and cattle and such. Anyway, I wanted to talk about the two fly fishing scenes. Hale-Bopp was awesome. Holy shit that comet lit up the sky.
Posted by: logprof Weird how Hale-Bopp made no impression on me. I had a clear view of the sky from where I lived in 1997, but have no memory of ever being able to see Hale-Bopp, except for a half-memory of once barely being able to see it and thinking, "Well, that certainly was lame." And yet there is this from wikipedia, which confirms your impression: "Its lengthy period of visibility and extensive coverage in the media meant that Hale-Bopp was probably the most-observed comet in history, making a far greater impact on the general public than the return of Halley's Comet in 1986, and certainly seen by a greater number of people than witnessed any of Halley's previous appearances. For instance, 69% of Americans had seen Hale–Bopp by April 9, 1997." Wha???? Man, I have no idea how I missed out on it. Posted by: zombie at August 17, 2018 07:57 PM (c+2jX) 249
Before its close approach, Kohoutek was promoted by the media as the "comet of the century". However, Kohoutek's display was considered a let-down,[3] possibly due to partial disintegration when the comet closely approached the Sun prior to its Earth flyby. You may now continue.

One reason the teacher>student relationships are female>male is because male teachers have already been forced out of teaching due to (probably mostly false) claims of statutory rape. Men are not welcome in most schools, which is a big part of what is wrong with our educational system. Children without fathers in the home go to classrooms mostly controlled by women.

OK, the two fly fishing scenes in Yellowstone.
In the Kevin Costner scene we see him casting. There are no long shots, it's not a river runs through it, but he picks up line and false casts and shoots about six feet of it and then starts his retrieve. There's nothing embarrassing about it. Also, when the other old cowboy says he just lost his last fly Costner says he lost his 20 minutes ago. That works, he's just standing in a stream casting. Now, the other is the lesbian couple from San Francisco. Only one fishes. She picks up line and splashes it down on the water. Maybe fifteen feet. Then there's no drift or anything, she just picks up the line and splashes it down. Again and again and again. I can't tell if the producers know what fly fishing is and this is commentary, or if like most of the advertising world it's just hold this fly rod and try to look cool. Yes, the first cutting this year was 23%, second 22%, third cutting will be late September. Good crop alfalfa. My other crop is oats. Feed it to sheep and chickens. Grow a small crop strictly for feeding critters. Buy some corn fron neighbor for the chickens. Inherited 52+ acres, live in the house I grew up in. As oldest child parents gave me the choice as to what I would inherit, choose the house and the original farmstead. Got a wood lot of about 6 acres and a small stream, and a spring. Sitting pretty. Haley was a real dud. I heard about it all my life and waited for the monumental sight. Barely saw it.
Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. " My wife and I shared a funny story about going to look for that. Like you, we had waited for it for all our lives and then it was a total disappointment. So we decided to drive way out in the country, away from any lights, to get as good a view as we could. Did that, turned down a old dirt farm road, finally could see it decently when we got out of the car - and we stood there, trying to convince each other we had done good, while we both tried to ignore the fact that there was a big clump of dark bushes about 20 feet away from us that sounded like Darth Vader was standing in the middle of it. We figured it had to be a cow, but neither of us wanted to admit to the other that it was kind of freaking us out. So we didn't say anything to each other about it, but after about 30 seconds of looking at the sky, we both agreed "well that's about all of Haley's Comet I ever wanted to see, let's go home!" And we got the heck out of dodge. Posted by: Tom Servo at August 17, 2018 08:41 PM (V2Yro) 465

Comets:
I looked for Comet Kohoutek when I was a teenager but never saw it. I didn't really know what I was doing. I took the hype at face value and expected it to be obvious in the sky. Today, I could probably find it with binoculars and a star chart. With Comet Halley, I knew going in that it would be one of the worst apparitions in recorded history, following 1910 which was one of the best. Still, it was my only chance to see the most famous comet in history, so I made the best of it. I followed that little sucker around the sky for about six months using a small telescope, binoculars mounted on a tripod, and star charts. It was visible to the naked eye for part of that time. Hale-Bopp was a lovely and bright comet that was visible to the naked eye for several months, among the longest on record. It was similar in that respect to the Great Comet of 1811, which was mentioned in "War and Peace", although I haven't read that book. Hale-Bopp showed some detail in a telescope near its peak. But the hands-down winner in my lifetime was Comet Hyakutake, which zoomed past Earth a year before Hale-Bopp and stole the show. It was a smaller comet but passed much closer to Earth. For a few nights in March 1996 it was high overhead and absolutely dominated the sky. Unlike Hale-Bopp, it appeared with little advance notice and media attention. I feel sorry for anyone who missed it, which was most people, because as I said, it didn't get as much media hype. My only jury duty was a man who was let out of prison and arrested later that same day.
A "woman" in a stolen car sideswiped a stopped car and cop had to dive over the hood to save his butt. The long haired excon was found walking down a country highway with the keys to a "car that wasn't his"(whose car was it? That's not something the jury needs to know) and the car was parked in the backyard of a vacant home just down the road from the accident. Defense? Cop said it was a woman, but my client is a man. Cop said the driver had long hair, my client is shaved bald...and ignore the mugshot with the mullet halfway down his back. My client found the car keys and was just returning them. My client wasn't in the car and if he was, he wasn't driving. Finding? We didn't miss supper time delivering a guilty verdict. Posted by: Not a Hawkeye at August 17, 2018 09:09 PM (VWE5i) 530

I observed Hyakutake from a park about an hour away from where I live in SE PA and saw a tail 30 degrees long. Observers in *really* dark sites in places like New Mexico reported a tail in excess of 90 degrees and I absolutely believe it. That was a comet like you read about in history books.
The thing about Hyakutake was that it was discovered only two months before closest approach, unlike Hale-Bopp which was discovered at least two years out. It passed about 10 million miles above the North Pole. That means it was heading almost directly towards us when it was first spotted. Which means that a comet could be on a collision course with Earth and we could get as little as two months' warning. Posted by: rickl at August 17, 2018 09:10 PM (sdi6R) 534

Posted by: boulder t'hobo at August 17, 2018 09:34 PM (N1ZXu) The simplest way to handle it would be to offer validated parking for jurors. Since most unattended lots now let one pay by credit card, you could just collect the credit card receipt, hand it in to the court clerk, who could then process an refund to your credit card, and debit the county's account by the same amount. Or just buy the receipt from you out of petty cash. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 17, 2018 09:38 PM (LI7AQ) 600
