"If there's any organization that's even worse at self-awareness than the MSM, at how bad they look in the eyes of others, and are completely clueless about it, it would have to be the Roman Catholic Church. Last week, Pennsylvania investigators released a 1300+ page report that detailed thousands of cases of child molesting by over 300 predator priests in 6 dioceses, and what does the Church do? First, nothing. Yes, I heard about their official statement which I'll get to in a bit, but the important thing is that the Pope has not said one damn thing about it. A case of this magnitude demands some king of visible, demonstrable act of contrition from the man at the top, but Frankie has been completely AWOL. And the Vatican's official statement is mighty weak beer. First, there's blather about 'shame' and 'sorrow', but they always say that. And then, and this is where we get to the cluelessly unself-aware part, it says there's been 'almost no' cases 2002, so, presumably, everything is OK now. Really? Do they really think now is the time to brag about the new shiny lock they put on the barn after it has burned down? Even if it's correct, I don't think most pew Catholics want to hear about that just now. It's like the old Monthy Python skit about how there's no cannibalism in the Royal Navy. I don't think anybody is satisfied with statements about 'shame' and 'sorrow'. One can easily conclude that once again, the Catholic Church is circling the wagons to protect its own. Not until the Catholic Church opens up an independent investigation, starting with the College of Cardinals and working throughout the seminaries and then down to the ranks of the parish priests, and rooting out every last sexual predator and enabler, will justice be done. Because, despite the bragging about no cases since 2002, you can bet there is child molesting going on now that won't come out until 2025 or 2030 or later. The Inquisition has a bad rap, but maybe it's time for another one."

What the RCC needs to do right now is, without hesitation or reservation, open its books and get any other abuse issues out in the open. Every Diocese. No exceptions. Because more is coming. NYS AG is starting its investigation now. And I know there are issues there. There were always hush-hush chatter about the Parish I grew up in about a couple of priests.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful of the faithful Catholics, but I can't figure out why there has been no comment on what happens if a priest is fresh from poking a choir boy. Does the communion wine and wafers still transform into the blood and body of Christ? And what about confession to a priest that still smells from playtime? I've seen attempts to justify that the "office" of the Church is still legitimate and used by God, so no harm no foul. I just don't see how someone that has committed one of the most heinous acts imaginable will be used by God. I mean, not that I believe in Roman doctrine, but still....I just can't imagine how this wouldn't cross the minds of practicing Catholics.

I don't think this will help. Child molesters don't molest young children because they can't get women. They molest because they're developed a taste for molesting young children. Marriage doesn't fix that.

The Catholic Church has a swamp problem, just like our government. We keep winning elections ... yet nothing ever changes. And despite scandal after scandal being exposed in the RCC, nothing changes. There were intentional, systematic coverups of abuse. That doesn't just happen by accident. Unfortunately for RCC parishioners, their theology doesn't give them the luxury of going elsewhere.
I suppose Magisterium could propose some law such as "no one adult allowed to be in the company of children, it must be two or more", but then what if those two were namblites? I think the only solution would be to allow married priests, but that won't happen.

Does the communion wine and wafers still transform into the blood and body of Christ? And what about confession to a priest that still smells from playtime? I've seen attempts to justify that the "office" of the Church is still legitimate and used by God, so no harm no foul. I just don't see how someone that has committed one of the most heinous acts imaginable will be used by God. I mean, not that I believe in Roman doctrine, but still....I just can't imagine how this wouldn't cross the minds of practicing Catholics.

I'm not downplaying the latest report, and I cannot speak for its veracity because trial lawyers corrupt every legitimate claim in the U.S., nonetheless, its a relatively limited, albeit it disgraceful, disgusting and malevolent group.
In this act they've not only betrayed others, their faith and common decency, but basic church doctrine and more importantly the teaching of Jesus Christ.

I dare say we almost never see these organized accusations and campaigns against any other religion, or faction of Christians. I believe that's deliberate, and partly based in evil.

The nearby city used to have prisoners go into the city schools and give talks about what it was like to be a prisoner in jail, to wake up some of the youths to what a life of crime is like. I think they dropped that program a few years ago for some reason.

I am a little biased, we had a Protestant minister living across the street from us when I was a kid, his wife seemed to be considered free labor for the church and they seemed to be under financial stress. I'm sure it varies wildly by the particular congregation.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful of the faithful Catholics, but I can't figure out why there has been no comment on what happens if a priest is fresh from poking a choir boy. Does the communion wine and wafers still transform into the blood and body of Christ? And what about confession to a priest that still smells from playtime? I've seen attempts to justify that the "office" of the Church is still legitimate and used by God, so no harm no foul. I just don't see how someone that has committed one of the most heinous acts imaginable will be used by God. I mean, not that I believe in Roman doctrine, but still....I just can't imagine how this wouldn't cross the minds of practicing Catholics.

The Church certainly has its problems, but if indeed there have been significantly fewer issues since the instituted reforms of 2002, and that most of this latest junk is just more of the same from prior to this reform, why all the hype? Yes, the Church's hierarchy willingness to accept homosexuality is a problem, and a significant one. But isn't this gay priest/teenage boy issue that which elements of the left condone and in fact are advancing as the next step in our sexual liberation?

I'd love to see schools get the same amount of scrutiny. But, when teachers are caught, they typically go to jail, rather than being reassigned. And teachers are not representatives of God. It seems fair to expect more of priests. Frankly, if the best defense Catholics can muster is, "but look at all these other molesters . . ." Sheesh.

there was a great deal of reassignments, or covering up accusations and letting the offenders slink away, with good references, so that they could be hired elsewhere. More are being prosecuted, but I think much has to do with people creating physical evidence now that wasn't available before.

There are no perfect people, there are no perfect clergy. If God only works through perfect people, and there are no perfect people, than the very concept of a sacrament - which includes baptism and marriage - is meaningless. Pretty obvious, I'd think.

The Catholic church abuse scandal and the college rape prosecutions are both great examples of why an organization should get the police and the courts involved when a crime has alleged to have been committed. A bishop, a college administrator should not be deciding what happened and deciding the punishment.

Those in the Easter Rite Churches have always been so, and converted married Orthodox priests have always remained priests. More recently, first Anglican, the Lutheran married clergy have been admitted to ordination as priest. (Unlike the Eastern cases, the Protestant converts' are not recognized as already ordained.)
But there is one constant theme in all these cases: A married man can become a priest, but a priest cannot marry. That is also the Orthodox rule. You must marry before ordination, or remain celibate.
The whole question, though is phony. It's the product of an age in which sexual love and satisfaction are placed as the highest human good. And the Church ain't buying that, however much the attitude may seep into her members' minds. The deification of sexual love has been going on less than half as long as the Church has been around.

The schools don't always jail their folks, they too got re-assigned. increasingly everyone is getting more aware of this. The Baptists are just in the first steps of addressing this as are other evangelical congregations.
The Catholics are by no means alone.
Oh and married priests? It will just change the molestation from being homosexual in nature to being heterosexual in nature. Molesters are married too.

The priest who did our wedding ended up being named in a scandal. He did seem a little light in the loafers. The fucked up thing was that he was a pretty cool priest. He went out of his way to fit our wedding in on a day that they really didn't have an opening on their schedule. The big problem was we found the perfect place for the reception, and
they had a 2 year waiting list, but there was a cancellation that we
managed to get and it was only 6 months away. We wanted that church because the wife went to catholic school there as a kid, and its the church I made my communion and confirmation in.
At first they couldn't do it, it was just too soon, so we tried the church in the area where we were moving, but they put us through the frigging ringer. I wanted to punch that priest in the face with a fire hydrant. The fuck face fuck actually broke out a calculator, told us how much we needed to donate, and even though we didn't live in the area yet demanded we be there every week or, in his exact words " I don't care what arrangements you made, or how much money you spent, but if i don't see you here every week, I will not marry you on the day of your wedding". Well, little ol' berserker me told the priest I'll see him in hell, and we walked out. We went back to our original church and told them what happened, and the priest felt bad and chiseled out a time slot for us. He even waived all those pre-cana requirements since we dated for so long. I don't know what happened to that priest, but he pulled a miracle.

I agree, I don't really like to hear people say "I did this" to get out of jury duty. Getting actually picked for a jury that actually goes to trial is probably rather slim, assuming the case isn't settled before a trial. But of course not all people can afford to take time off from work, or are not paid for not being at work.

I want to tread carefully here, so as not to offend. With that said, the fundamental problem with the RC church's response to pedophilia is that they are taking a gun-control approach to it, and they are getting much the same results.
You can no more stop these priests from acting on their urges than you can stop the tide. Like gun control, they are trying to legislate human emotions, which is madness in this case.
The root of the problem lies in answering the question "why are we getting all of these people in our ranks?"
Perhaps they should ask St. Paul, who was married and discusses this very thing. Or maybe the first Pope, St. Peter, who was also married.
The answer is as old as Christianity itself. If only the RC church had the courage to confess that they had gotten it very, very wrong.
You will find miscreants and scum in every organized group, from the USMC down to the Lutherans. Humans are human. However, there is a very good reason why you see far less of this particular cancer in the Corps or the Lutheran Church than you do with the RC church.
It is *so* obvious as to be comical, if it wasn't so tragic.
The RC church is dying, rapidly. If they don't fix this, and soon, then they are doomed. Very few people, and no mentally healthy ones, will continue to support this kind of thing.
Common sense tells you that if it is true in PA, it's certainly true in the other 49 states - and globally.
The church has to admit that they got the doctrine wrong. It's just wrong.

My father and mother were married for 50 years before my mother passed away.
He recently remarried to another fine Christian widow, who had been married for almost 50 years before losing her husband.

I grew up RC and was never molested by any of the priests thank G-d, but it was always sort of known. I had, at one time, thought married priests would help. Until I met an Episcopal priest who'd been married four times. Originally, it was not required to be celibate. As the church grew wealthier, and most bishops in the Middle Ages were considered nobles, the question arose of inheritance. Bishops wanted their sons to inherit their seat. Rome wanted to control who got it. So, for at least the bishops and up, marriage was disallowed, but mistresses were accepted because any children would be officially bastards and ineligible for inheritance. Priests on the parish level were ordered into celibacy but so long as it wasn't blatant it could be safely ignored.
Now, the church is in a crisis of men who want the job so as with so much else, standards get lowered.

The Catholic Church may suffer from not attracting more men to the clergy, but this attitude just makes things worse. What normal guy would want to go to a seminary where he'd be hit on? It also reinforces negative opinions of Catholic clergy. I recall a cartoon from the 90s of a bishop telling Michael Jackson "No, Michael, we can't reassign you to another diocese." The tarnishing of their own image would outweigh the loss of a pool of clergy, I'd think.

Amen to that! So many people here like to brag about their clever tricks to avoid getting picked for jury duty. Are we not the best and brightest? If we shirk our jury duty, that increases the chance of trials being heard by dullards and Leftists.

imo the "global economy" has revolved around the American consumer. We have been the demand side driver, others are far more limited and generally have required access to our markets to thrive. So we get commie cheaters China on the supply side, offering nothing to the demand side except in them buying resources around the globe (including here, including our politicians and influence in our schools).
The American miracle would be to cut off the cheaters that only want to supply, but still be commies/enemies, and bring production back to the US back to the US back the USA. We don't know how lucky we are boyz ... but with our debt it will be some tricky business.
But we are in the driver's seat, and even if market's tank, that is paper promises fake market "money" that goes back to money heaven (Joe Kernan line, on "where does all that 'money' go?") ... we could perhaps keep the job market and real economy strong. RealAmerica has to reclaim its government, for starters ...

Every homily our priest has given for three weeks has included his thoughts and and anger about the ongoing scandal, he is angry but he has not brought up the H word. I don't know if he has a blind spot, is homo himself or just won't say it out of fear. I shake my head at this. Nothing will get fixed until they hold the bishops accountable and take off the blinders or start telling the truth about homosexuals in the priesthood and the damage and sin they have unleashed. Homosexuals need to be removed from clerical positions posthaste. Pray for us our church and a renewed and holy priesthood free from the stain of homosexuality.

Catholic church is slightly growing in the US - but not fast. And not universally across the country. Growing in the south due to Hispanic immigration (yes, part from illegals) and northern retirees moving. So churches are closing in the rust belt and in shrinking rural areas.

Elsewhere Paul lays out the requirements for deacons and elders/priests, one of which is that they be a man of one wife. Nowhere does he say that they should not marry.

This is not specifically about Corinth. It's a well-supportable reading that he is introducing the answer to a specific question by starting with a general principle.
Also, this rather echoes Jesus *hard* teachings about marriage in Matthew 19. You either make yourself a "eunuch for God", or you marry one and only one woman to fulfill the Lord's teaching on marriage. The Lord even says that some have made themselves "eunuchs for God"--i.e. the service of God. It's as if to say that some men, devoted to God, don't even indulge themselves in one woman--let alone get a new one every time they get bored.

Yes, because the Jews were kind of making a mockery of the practice by the time of Christ.
