Apparently, Milady and I will be going for a little drive today... arriving for family gathering in Chicago on Friday, if all goes well. This is not something I would normally choose to do. Sometimes one's destiny is carved in stone.
Many folks I love traveling to this, including our kids and 1.3 grandkids, so prayers for safe journeys for us all definitely welcomed.

I have always examined my actions. I think most people do, even if they do it at 2AM, wondering where it when wrong. But, what do anarchists think the world will be like if they achieve their objectives? Do they actually think that people will thrive in chaos? And who will manufacture and transport the drugs that help them to ignore reality? Where will the air conditioning in the summer and the heat in the winter come from? And the food. What happens in a world where nobody comes to work and take care of business? You can attribute a lot of it to youth, but even youths realize they can't fly when they jump off the mountain and go splat.

Three years ago I was handed a project another team had pinched off, and told it most be rolled out to the entire company. "It's not ready," I said, and the other team was wroth and I was told not to question their technical excellence.
I did my best, made some improvements. The system only lost 3-5% of the users orders, and no longer slowly lost capacity until it wouldn't let anyone sign in.
Instead of continuing to improve the system, or replacing it, they kept adding "features" no one asked for. The little analysis we could do showed these feature were used by 1% of our users. Meanwhile, 3-5% of the users were losing their orders.
Last year they declared It Is Now Time. The CIO told us by talking to a trade journal, the usual way of letting teams know about major projects. By the end of the year a quarter or so of our customers will have access to the system, which still loses 3-5% of their orders.
The executives are so thrilled with the success they want us to sell the software to other companies. Presumably so they, too, will lose 3-5% of their customers orders.

Oh yeah, Samhain, already old when the Romans showed up. Always been a festival of the Rise of Darkness, Death of the Sun. Regarding the HAM radio, it's easy peasy to hook up an ethernet cable to radio equipment and set up a network with another computer also hooked up the same way. Set up an innocuous signal to tell the other person to fire up the network at some pre-arranged time later that day (tape on a road sign, carrying a red bag past a store, whatever), transfer encrypted data over an encrypted SSL tunnel, then shut the network down. Viola, unless you're under direct, constant surveillance by a serious agency, nobody knows nothin'.

No matter what happens - you'll always have a group with somber, well-intoned reasons for lying down and taking it. This is just another variant of the "don't stoop to their level" argument.
It's the Republican Dream ... no matter how many times Team Elephant gets their asses kicked, figuratively and literally, there's always a group insisting that the best response is no response.
It's a basic lack of will to fight ... at any level ... about anything.
I've made my position clear. I don't go to protests ... but these ANTIFA folks are never going to let it go. They're going to take the protest to us, sooner or later. My bet is sooner. They're going to leave the comfy confines of Blue Cities before much longer.
I'd just like to see all these "non-violence folks" get out there and show me how its done. I'd like to see what this "winning" looks like.
