Journalists or Activists? CNN, Which Admitted They Were Responsible for Getting Alex Jones Deplatformed from YouTube, Apple, and FaceBook, Now Admits It's Also Pressuring Twitter to Deplatform Him

I thought I read something about journalists having the missing of reporting the news, not making it themselves.

Or: of journalists being neutral reporters, not partisan activists.

But here is CNN openly bragging that it's searching Alex Jones' twitter feed for potentially deplatformable tweets and "helpfully" bringing them to Twitter's attention.

It's not just that post -- Nick Monroe has a whole thread of CNN openly campaigning, as the partisan operation Media Matters does, to pressure Twitter into reversing its decision to not ban Alex Jones.

For example:

But there's a lot more.

Remember, CNN does this all the time, and they know that negative media coverage can bully other corporations into bending to its partisan will. They publicized the shit out of Roseanne Barr's tweet, for example.

They let ABC know that if they didn't fire Barr, they would keep filing story after repetitive story to say things like "Six days later, and ABC still hasn't fired Roseanne Barr."

But when did they report on James Gunn's tweets?

They didn't -- not until ABC/Disney had already fired him. They didn't want him fired, him being an out and loud liberal like CNN is made up of, so they let ABC know, "You don't have to fire him -- we'll contain the story for you so that no one really knows about it."

But they're a neutral news-gathering operation, right?

By the way, on this point: Our "Conservative" Betters keep lecturing us that we are not to pressure corporations into firing people. Or, when a corporation fires a Roseanne Barr, we are not pressure them not to fire them.

To inflict social media pressure on a poor defenseless trillion dollar corporation would be to abridge their free speech rights and their property rights.

They keep scolding conservatives, and conservatives only, to never question or pressure a corporation with negative press into changing their Holy Corporate Papal Bulls.

Strangely, they seem entirely uninterested in scolding leftists to stop pressuring corporations.

Anyone think David French will take CNN to task for infringing on poor Twitter's corporate decision-making?

No -- more and more, they support and applaud anti-free-speech decisions when pressured by leftists. It's only conservatives they scold for daring to criticize a trillion-dollar corporation's speech decisions.

So here's the thing. Twitter decided not to deplatform Alex Jones. One of the few social media companies which said, at least in this instance, they would not bow to social media pressure.

Did French and Co. congratulate them for standing up to outrage-mob pressure when applied from the left?

Of course not. And yet they applaud these companies for bowing to pressure from the left; they only want to stiffen these companies' spines from bowing to conservative pressure.

But it gets worse. If their "principles" dictate that one must never pressure a corporation to make a speech decision-- that companies must always be defended whatever their Corporate Papal Bulls might turn out to be -- you'd think that if the left began pressuring Twitter to reverse its decision to not deplatform Jones-- that is, to pressure them into deplatforming him when they already decided they wouldn't -- then French, Goldberg, Shapiro, et al. would begin criticizing the left for attempting to bully a poor defenseless corporation.

After all -- their Sacred Principles dictate that the defend corporations from right-wing pressure; if these are principles, rather than self-interested partisan stances of easy convenience, French, Goldberg, Shapiro et al. should also chide the left for such pressure tactics.

And the left did in fact pressure Twitter. In fact, not only did "the left" apply pressure, but reporters from the Racist New York Times applied pressure -- surely a more potent threat of abridging a corporation's free speech rights than the usual pressure you get from thirty conservative twitter-users/bloggers.

And yet...? None of these guys is scolding leftists for doing the same thing they call intellectual thuggery akin to Stalinism when their Enemies on the Right do it.

There's a term for people who excoriate behavior when performed by conservatives but excuse/defend/ignore it when leftists do the same damn thing: we call them "leftist partisans."

To recap:

Corporations are holy entities who shall not be made subject to even criticism by mere citizens. They are keen of telling us, ad nauseam, that corporations have their own free speech rights; but they sort of forget the part where citizens have speech rights as well, and are permitted (well, so far) to use their own free speech rights to criticize the decisions of others, including Holy Corporations.

They keep instructing us that for mere citizens to criticize corporations is to unfairly pressure them and thereby diminish a Holy Corporations' free speech rights. They forget to note that this same logic, applied to their own bullying/scolding, would suggest that they're somehow taking way our free speech rights when they criticize us.

When conservatives do this, the #FakeConservatives are Johnny-On-The-Spot about scolding them, insulting them, and accusing them of essentially being Socialists.

But when leftists do the same thing, the #FakeConservatives say absolutely nothing at all -- or actively support the leftist effort and join the left in enforcing a caste system in which leftists have all the rights and privileges of speech, and conservatives have nearly none at all, or only what our leftist masters are kind enough to permit.

#ClownPrinciples ON,
#ClownPrinciples OFF.

Update: As Lizzy says, this isn't about Alex Jones -- this is about establishing the war-plan as valid so that they can deploy it against The Daily Caller, and then just move on to the next targets.

Certain "conservatives" know, or think they know, that they are immune from this as they have shown their leftist overlords that they can be counted on as good allies in eliminating the left's enemies and the nominal right's competitors.

More: El Kabong disagrees about the order of purging:

Disagree. I think this is still in the beta-test stages, so you have to go after targets that everyone (ie, the Cruiseservatives) can sort of agree are awful.

Next are people who use a lot of social media, but don't belong to any sort of company or organization. People like Mike Cernovich, Lauren Southern, Jack Posobiec, etc.

After that...maybe Breitbart.

Yes, I think he's right. But then, after that: The Daily Caller. Me.

The Federalist, obviously -- the #FakeConservatives are all obsessed with destroying that Deplorable upstart.

Pretty much anyone who has not bowed to the left and sworn their allegiance.

I imagine it's about like the 'sue and settle' game activists organizations play with federal agencies. Activists groups sue, say, the EPA over something that the EPA wants to do, but doesn't, and then they "settle" with the activists by implementing whatever they want. The federal agency takes no responsibility for implementing it - it was thrust on them by the court (wink, wink).

The pattern is always the same. Faceless armies or partisans take to emails and phone calls to AstroTurf a particular issue or person in order to force a reaponse. They largely get a reaction from people friendly to their cause since they no possess "prima facie" evidence of the offending behavior.

Sound familiar tactically? It should. It's why we have a special counsel and Russia investigation.

At this point, the social media and companies are either tools or willing dupes. Platforms will start to bleed users and companies loses customers- depending on how they respond.

They can certainly try to end opposing voices, but then we move to the next phase of this war.

Disagree. I think this is still in the beta-test stages, so you have to go after targets that everyone (ie, the Cruiseservatives) can sort of agree are awful.

80 Sponge: "So, what did Jones say, exactly, that as everyone wanting him banned from everything? I know he's a kook, but I haven't seen exactly what has him being removed quoted anywhere."

Doesn't matter. Jones, a fringe player (despite a good audience) was a test case for censorship outside the realm of government. Silicon Valley (and the Progressive class) virtually colluded to excise an outsider voice to see if it could be done and what the repercussions would be. His exclusion has been the most acute, abrupt, broad banning in social media history considering his audience. This was another iteration of expanded war on speech by the domestic oligarchy that has been accumulating power in the digital age frontier.

The schism between the internet and real life is vast.

131 Ace, in journalism school, they actually have a term for what CNN (and every other modern news organization) does:

"Advocacy journalism."

Up to approximately the 1980s, when professors discussed "advocacy journalism" to students, it was to condemn it as totally unacceptable: "Class, the one thing you should NEVER do is fall into advocacy journalism, because then you'd be taking sides. You must report the story with no bias. Leave your personal preference out of it!"

But THEN the whole "deconstructionism" and postmodernism fad hit the journalism field, and the new hotness was: There is no such thing as being unbiased. EVERYONE imputes their point of view into their reportage, whether they realize it or not.

That was the first step -- tenderizing the meat.

Having philosophically eradicated the illusion of "impartiality," the deconstructionists then took the next step: Since you automatically impart a bias into what you write, shouldn't you consciously control what that bias is? Shouldn't you CHOOSE your bias, rather than let it manifest unwittingly?

Next step: Answer that question in the affirmative. Yes. You should choose your bias.

And the final step: And the bias you choose should ALWAYS favor "social justice" and should ALWAYS seek to "afflict the comfortable."

Add in a dash of 21st-century race politics and neo-communism, and voila -- the transformation was complete. NOW in journalism school, they teach the exact opposite of what they used to teach. NOW they say, "All students are required to have a left-wing slant to their journalism. This has all been worked out before, by previous generations of scholars. Do not question the new orthodoxy, therefore. It has been determined that the only logical and moral course is to be a left-wing activist disguised as a journalist. Everyone has a role to play in The Revolution, and everyone has a skill set. Your skill set is propaganda. Use it well."

I have an inside view of this whole process, as I know both j-school professors and many journalism students of various ages.

What we're seeing right now, at this moment in history, are students of this brainwashing cult formerly known as "journalism school" finally reaching positions of power in major news organizations.

Form here on out, it's only going to get much, much worse, as the last few remaining old-timers with actual impartiality are forced out of the profession.

It's like that story from a couple of days ago when Mila Kunis admitted that she had no idea that there was an anti-abortion side to the abortion debate at all.

Many years ago, someone I knew online posted a very self-righteous if you do not support x y z position then defriend me and never interact with me because you are a terrible human.

I replied to her okay but I would rather think you know I'm not but your sandbox your rules. She replied all shocked that I could dare support x y z. So I explained why.

She quite literally had never heard any argument in support of the position even though this was a very mainstream position. She was stunned, and, to her credit, embarrassed that it never even occurred to her to look to see what the people supporting it said.

The guy who started the Walk Away movement did so because a friend of his sent him a video debunking the Trump made fun of the disabled reporter meme. He was adult enough to watch it and reasonable enough to say hey I was wrong about that so what else was I wrong about.

Now he has the furor of the convert.

143 The next 2-3 weeks are, I suspect, vital. Go big first. InfoWars, though disliked and often bashed for the amusement of others, is a powerhouse.
If this works against them, then widen the net and attack an important marginal player (see also: gab.ai).
If this works, then attack a more centrist organization with the wrong ideas next (I think this will be Brietbart, or something similarly not-as-fringe).
If this works, then attack less popular sites with high user engagement but no ability to fight, as these will get lost in the noise. I think the HQ and CTH fall into this category.
If this works, then widen the net and go after more conservative sites, working toward the center. Here, places like the Daily Caller at risk.

By this point, we're at the election and they proceed at their own leisure. If they lose, the pace increases. If they win, they get more subtle because they're unstoppable and they know it.

I don't see a way out other than an immediate FTC investigation into monopoly practices and cartel behavior, with injunctions and finally breakup. But this would be an atom bomb if it were to happen.

I remember a fourth year business class in college... strategic management or some title. Everyone took a test individually. Something that no one could have expertise in, but there was a logical, but debatable order. It was something about surviving on the moon, iirc. Results were tallied as individuals.

Then the class was broken up into about five groups. The purpose then was to brainstorm together and make a logical sequence out of these totally bizarre items as to value. For example matches. No air on the moon, no value. A tank of oxygen, high value. Etc.

Anyway, you took the input from each individual, attempted to see if there was consensus, if not moved to next item, once again asked for some sort of group idea, dissenters, etc. In the end, the group discarded the worst ideas, embraced the consensus, but let everyone have their say.

Then the results were tallied to see which group had achieved the highest net gain over original score. I was the head of one group. I asked for input, rejected no opinion, sought counsel from those with more expertise. My group scored the highest net gain and had the highest overall score.

Even a 'nut' like Alex Jones has some value. Alex Jones is the guy arguing that matches have some value in a no air environment. I'll listen, but probably discard. Thinking outside the box is okay. Perhaps he'll someday venture onto the truth.

This incipient anti-Americanism and anti-free speech of the left will kill us if we don't kill it first.

Being able to own guns is absolutely key.

Speaking freely is vital, as is self defence; Solzhenitsyn talks about this is Gulag Archipelago too... What if people did something? Defended their neighbour when they heard the knock on their door instead of cowering and praying they weren't next? Pretty soon the culture of fear is so inculcated into the psyche, there is little room for thoughts of rebellion.

235 Adirondack Patriot: "If the defense can't have the information, then you have a mistrial.

The judge may be asking the prosecution to review the investigation material to see if it is fact something that can't be disclosed.

Mueller has crapped this case up good."

And I think Mueller et al. have crapped it up good intentionally at this point. They never expected to go go trial. They wanted to threaten and squeeze Manafort into flipping on Trump for some fake charge on a plea deal. Manafort wouldn't play along and Mueller's repeated attempts to perpetually delay trial fell on deaf ears. Mueller had a bad case, was self-evidently politically motivated, and he was caught flat-footed. The game has been to muddle the case, likely to enrage the Court, and drive for a mistrial.

When a non-lawyer like me can see this, pretty much anyone who breathes can see this. Mueller's got nothing. His "star witness" ensured that, and Manafort's lawyers are digging the government's case's grave.

246 For anyone who doubts that the purge (killing) is coming should look at what has happened the past few years.

We have had #BlackLivesMatter and #CriminalJusticeReform which is a two step process.

#BlackLivesMatter delegitimizes the police and current political system.

#CriminalJusticeReform releases criminals back into the society creating chaos and a public clamoring for help to stop the growing crime and violence.

The #Communist will fill this void politically by promising to bring order.

They will replace the police with a National Police Force augmented by a civilian Red Guard.

Dissent will be eliminated.

America at that point will be over.

>>You'd have to block access to the IP address at the Internet Provider level. Sort of what the Chinese do, with the assistance of American tech companies.

I understand technically how it could be done but practically it's impossible.

Facebook and twitter and the like are private platforms that host people, companies, etc.. This is also a private platform that hosts morons. Ace can ban people like Facebook or twitter but nobody is taking down the site just like nobody is taking down Facebook.

Unfortunately.
Posted by: JackStraw

Actually, my own site was "deplatformed" (temporarily) in a much more direct way, even though it was my private domain.

When Muslims found out about "The Mohammed Image Archive" (hosted at zombietime), they literally traced the IP traffic to the physical location where the server was housed (in some anonymous server farm in Texas, as it turned out), and the SEND BOMB THREATS to that physical address. Not many people worked in the building, but it had to be evacuated several times, until the other companies in the building pressured my ISP to delete my site, for everyone's safety. My ISP caved. zombetime was deleted due to bombs threats and Alinsky-style social-pressure dominoes falling.

Were it not for a rogue employee later re-allowing the site after the kerfuffle had died down, zombietime would still be offline today.

So it is indeed possible to "deplatform" even a private domain, even you are willing to "go there" to terroristic threats. And I'm quite sure that the LEft will have zero qualms about "going there."

Exactly. How many carriers are there? We're essentially Ma Bell again as mergers (and FCC/FTC approved BTW) have created oligopolies approaching monopolies. There are already regional monopolies.

So what happens when Spectrum Inc. decides they disapprove of tenor or content of a customer? Or, worse, the Federal Government as weaponized political tool decides for it?

368 330 When Muslims found out about "The Mohammed Image Archive" (hosted at
zombietime), they literally traced the IP traffic to the physical
location where the server was housed (in some anonymous server farm in
Texas, as it turned out), and the SEND BOMB THREATS to that physical
address.

Funny, I was thinking about that just today. I have an image on that page (is it still there?) and won the first annual "draw Mohammed" that Pamela G. was judging. I've always wondered if I was stupid enough to not go to some lengths to remain anonymous if these freaks would come after me?
Posted by: clutch cargo

I suppose it must still be there -- not sure which image you're referring to. It would probably be on this page:

http://www.zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/draw_mohammed/

(The Geller contest is about halfway down, with lots of entries posted.)

The Muslims are really stupid and unaware. They only go after sites/people that get a lot of publicity. Now that the news about the drawing contest has died down, they've surely forgotten about you.

Heck, I used to get about 10 death threats a day, then down to just one or two a day, then one or two a week, and nowadays I only get one or two a month. Why? Because there's no news and no MSM coverage of the Mo Archive, so the M's are unaware of it (even though the Archive is now 10x bigger than it was when I was getting all the threats!).

Anyway, short version: I think you're safe.

371 I flipped this am to CNN just to see what they were rolling around in today.

Fox and Friends had their typical interviews with veterans, etc.
FBN was interviewing government and corporate indivdiuals regarding China, tariffs and the CPI numbers coming out today.
Joe S. had someone on talking about the previous administration's policy on immigration

OAN was moving through a list of international news.

CNN? Mueller probe, Russia, Manafort, Russia. Trump tweets. Russia.

They are not a news organization. They are their own version of Alex Jones. No wonder they want him deplatformed. He is a mirror to them.

384 I haven't seen French's, or Goldberg's, or Shapiro's reaction to this -- and it's not because I don't actively ignore these people, but I don't actively seek them out, either -- but I can't help but wonder: what are we supposed to do?

I suspect their argument is the typical "these are private companies, so they are free to do what they want to do", and it's an argument that appeals to me greatly, because I don't *want* government to get involved. Indeed, if the *only* solution is to get the government involved, then we are doomed the moment a CNN/Facebook/Etc-sympathetic government gets back into power. From what I've heard from them before, they aren't happy about the situation, but they also respect the rights to assembly, private property, and free speech.

Granted, the case *can*, and *should* be made, that if these companies don't make their rules, and the violations of the rules explicit, both shadowbanning and outright banning should be considered a violation of their terms of service, and they should be sued. Similarly, these companies rely on being platforms for content, and argue that they cannot police their users: thus, if they start policing users, they should *legally* be held accountable for *all* their users' actions.

Beyond that, what else is there? Should we regulate them like monopolies -- and if so, what does that even mean? Should we demand that they provide a platform for everyone? Where does it stop?

A good starting point, perhaps, would be to provide alternative services, services that respect people's free speech. Or perhaps we could commit ourselves to boycott CNN and their advertisers. And certainly the advice given to Sarah Huckabee Sanders is good, to kick CNN out and replace them with Alex Jones is a good idea.

But what can I do? Sadly, I'm going to make this comment, check up on this post a few times, and then disappear back into the ether, and nothing's going to change. Yet something *has* to change, and *we* should be the change we desire. I would *love* to see CNN brought to their knees for this. I can call for boycotts all I want, but I'm a mere commenter to blogs, and even if I had the time to start a blog, it would take me months for me to develop a following. What few ears my voice will fall upon will likely be deaf.

I'm at a loss. We need good options to fight this. Without good suggestions for action, though, we can complain about the Leftists and the Cuckservatives all we want, but without action -- real, personable action, and not just government action -- are we all that different from the cuckservatives?
