Not Only Is InfoWars Just the First Step in Eradicating Oppositional Speech, They're Admitting It

A US Senator, calling for the effective end of the First Amendment.

Don't worry though -- Conservatism, Inc. is covering the big stories.

That's actually true. Kristol, Goldberg, French, etc. are doing one of their typical bouts of Flirting With Other Men by affecting lighthearted, charming tones and talking about silly things. Yesterday (when this was written), they flirted with each other by pretending to have very strong opinions about pizza.

French Burps Up Something Besides Pizza Flirting:

Conservatism, Inc., specializes in providing "conservative, market-based" plans for accomplishing every single item on the progressive agenda list. They don't ever challenge the actual goals, they just dream up new ways of achieving progressive goals that they can call "conservative" and therefore throw their support behind.

This Guy Gets It:

Yes, that is exactly what the cucks sound like, every single day. That, and publicly flirting with other heavily overweight middle-aged men.

78 This conflict has been looming for a long time.

The idea that the first amendment only protects citizens against GOVERNMENT censorship of speech vs the spirit of freedom of speech, especially in an age where a very few trillion dollar tech companies own the platforms on which most Americans tend to communicate broadly with the world.

For a long time I've pushed back against the common carrier idea because that means government gets their hands into "monitoring" companies and pushing them to maintain invisible bureaucrats' ideas of neutrality.

I'm now thinking Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft, and several other companies have demonstrated enough meddling in speech to make it a wash. If they continue on this current path, the private companies may actually be worse, given this idea that only government stifling speech is wrong.

He's a conspiracy theorist who is pretty popular in some quarters. For example, he believes that the Sandy Hook incident with Adam Lanza was a false flag operation by the government. Stuff like that.

I've never watched five minutes of Alex Jones. Not my cup of tea, but I will say that youtube was full of videos about Sandy Hook being a false flag and they were there for YEARS. No one did anything about them. So all of a sudden being concerned about this stuff isn't cutting it.

It's about the election. Thing is is that this seems like a really bad time to pull this shit. Is it desperation? Maybe they know they're not going to win in November.

As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free
flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The
once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information
flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation
gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid
slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to
information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

"Multiple Mjolnir-sized banhammers are coming down on Alex Jones...

...A word of caution to InfoWarsamaniacs and conservatives, in general, is to avoid mob-like tactics. It's perfectly fine to be angry at Twitter over Candace Owens' brief suspension, along with ire towards Facebook et al. for banning Jones' official accounts.

But any online mob thrash to find some leftist to kick off social media will only encourage their allies to target another one of you. It's the nature of online witch hunts, where everyone has to put on a jersey of a certain color and stripe to make sure people know where they stand on the issues.

There's no need to form your own version of the online Polizie to make sure social media is safe from the opposite side's opinion.

Screw the 'new rules.' Go do your own thing. You don't have to conform to the crowd and there are plenty of other options out there to discuss and debate issues."

In the '70s, Carmine Galante expanded his heroin distribution empire by importing a bunch of Sicilians who muscled out the former owners of a string of pizzerias (who were also distributing special mozzarella) and used them as the infrastructure of his dope distribution empire. In the event, heroin coming in from Marseilles was found wrapped in an apron from one of the pizzerias. The movie The French Connection addresses this.

Alex Jones is an asshole. The left loved him when he did his conspiracy theorizing in reference to 9/11 and the Iraq war.

But unless he is directly calling for violence, which AFAIK he isn't, deplatforming him is wrong.

192 The biggest problem with all this is that its the very organizations who exist and thrive based on the principles of free speech which we as a society are built around which are calling for less of it.

The first amendment is merely a codification of the government's requirement to defend freedom of speech. We live in a culture which as part of the social contract agrees that liberty requires the freedom of expression be as broad as possible for us to have the greatest freedom and security. Give up that, and you give up the benefits, no matter how much you think it helps your side.

This nation has gone from "I think your ideas are disgusting, but you're free to do that" to "you are evil and must be suppressed" which is the first step to tyranny in every single society in history's existence. This has to be fought at every stage.

208 The thing is, these two statements can both be true:

1) A private organization can decide who gets to be in it and who gets to have a voice there
2) As a society we cherish freedom of speech and must oppose all attempts to suppress that no matter who the target.

I don't really give a damn what Instagram allows or doesn't, as I never have gone to the site and have no interest in it. It looms large in the minds of people who post pictures on it, but in the end, its just a site where people post pictures.

My concern is with places people post information and ideas. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, that kind of thing is a clearinghouse for individual input into the social discussion. That's where you can bypass the gatekeepers and promote ideas and news that are otherwise ignored by the establishment. Those areas have to be free and open or there's no point in having them.

210 For our newly-commenting extreme Libertarian friends of the "tough shit; start your own internet platform if you don't like being banned" meme from Glenn Reynolds...

A few points: (1) This is absolutely the first stage in a coordinated plan to deplatform everyone on the right. It's not really about Alex Jones at all. (2) Aside from its free-speech* implications, which are serious indeed, this also looks like an antitrust violation: Media companies, which compete with Jones for eyeballs, colluded to get other media companies to shut him down. Were I Jones, I'd file an antitrust suit. This is more than arguably conspiracy in restraint of trade (and possibly a conspiracy to deprive him of civil rights). (3) This is proof that we need to break up these big tech companies, which exercise way too much power via their near-monopolies. That they coordinate in the abuse of those monopolies only makes it clearer.

* Note that I say "free speech" and not "First Amendment." The First Amendment only limits government, but "free speech" is -- or at least until very recently was -- a broader social value in favor of not shutting people up just because we don't like their ideas or politics. As for the "private companies can do what they want," well, that's not the law, or the custom, and hasn't been for a long time. It's especially not true where the companies have, as these companies have, affirmatively represented to users and shareholders that they don't discriminate based on viewpoints.

225 There is an interesting, central point here people don't talk about.

The sort of conspiracy mongering that Jones does actually does sort of work. Its why the left does this inherently and constantly - from 9/11, to the origins of crack cocaine, to how Reagan got elected in 1980 the left has its own, insane ideas.

The left is moving against Jones because of this. His Sandy Hook stuff is...wrong...but it makes people question gun control and the FNM narrative. Just like the left claiming Bush was behind 9/11 had a similar effect with the WoT.

So if you are a liberal, this is double plus good - any voices that hurt the left are bad - whether it be Jones, AoS or the Rush Limbaugh - and should be banned.

If you aren't a liberal though defending Jones is tough...because he is horrible. But no more then say...Sarah Jeong or Van Jones.

240 This entire discussion is why I (probably to peoples' annoyance here) will defend the right of jackasses and leftist twits to say stupid and insulting crap. They're idiotic, they're annoying, they're corrosive, but they have to be free to talk. Muslims have to be free to have their religion, too. Homosexuals have to be free to have their marches. Satanists have to be free to have spirit cooking events. This stuff we don't like or feel uncomfortable with is exactly why the 1st amendment was written.

I wish bad stuff didn't exist. I wish stupidity was painful, it would have saved me a lot of misery in the past. I wish people wouldn't be swayed or fooled by lies and deception. But those are all prices we pay to be free, a greater freedom. Its part of the social contact: I give up things I want in order for us all to gain greater things. Yes, I want Maxine Waters to shut up and CNN to get their act together. But they're free to do what they do, even if it is very obnoxious.

IN between his screeching about gay frogs, he's got some good points and has been proven right in some of his odder sounding conspiracy theories. And there are other guys on that site like Paul Joseph Watson who are pretty darn solid and effective.

Basically Alex Jones is the spectacle that brings people in to look around and the other people bring the content. And I think it was making inroads to people that the left want kept away from the truth.

This may be a gray area (he is expressing an opinion, not pushing for policies or laws), but as man who swore defend the Constitution, he should not be publicly lauding wide-scale industrial collusion (which is a crime, for what its worth) targeted at censoring a citizen of the United States.

290 I'm not sure where free speech crosses the "private companies can do what they want" line (except not bake that gay cake).

But these social media conglomerates are publicly traded, and they can't falsely advertise as "fair and balanced" while actually operating as a leftist political hatchet machine.

And when does Amazon enter the anti-trust zone, since they tie all their services into one giant machine. Buy products from them, means use their shipping, their producers, their "slaves" in China.

Easy money policy allowed Amazon to drive out brick and mortar competition. They lost money on every book sold for a long time, to gain "market share". But it was more than books and market, it was eliminating competition as they lost money for 20 years. That is not a normal process, but they buy politicians and a newspaper to gain/buy political support.

At the root imo, the globalist oligarchs pushed these leftist policy CEOs, with bad intent from the start. Go to the inner sanctum CFR/Bilderberg meetings and (in your imagination) collect the notes ... they have a plan for US.

During 2016, the old media got broken. Breitbart and InfoWars were routinely in the top 5 media outlets. This never got discussed, but their oligopoly was shattered in 2016, and I think it probably helped Trump get elected. Since then, they have dropped again but their influence grew very large when the chips were down and this is an election year. If they succeed here, I suspect it will be Breitbart next (though they're kind of rudderless anymore), then on to the smaller fish to make sure it never happens again.

InfoWars is the test case. Go for scale first. If it can work against Alex Jones, the same playbook can be used elsewhere because its efficacy has been demonstrated against the toughest target.

327 I'm not sure where free speech crosses the "private companies can do what they want" line (except not bake that gay cake).

The line is this: you are free to do what you want, but ought not. There are more ways to regulate and control things than government and law. No number of laws can create a polite and well-ordered society, it has to come from within. In the past, general decency and a commitment to freedom kept people from doing what they ought not.

It is painful to me to see so many people who ostensibly embrace small government principles default to "THERE OUGHTA BE A LAW!!!!" every time something comes up. The last way we deal with things should be more laws. Giving the government more power does not result in more liberty.

329 Federal Judge Naomi Buchwald ruled that twitter is a Public Space and that by "silencing" his social media critics by blocking them, President Trump is engaging in "viewpoint discrimination", and he can't block them.

Based on that, the Trump administration should declare twitter, facebook, and youtube as public space and order the FCC or the FTC to regulate them under the same rules as other communications companies are regulated from blocking viewpoints that they disapprove of.

352 Ace doesn't hold himself out as a common carrier, either.

There is also this distinction: the bigger and more socially significant your website becomes, the greater responsibility you have to support and promote liberty and broader discussion. My blog gets like 30 readers a day unless a big blog links it. The cultural impact from Word Around the Net is miniscule, almost too small to measure. Ace's blog is more significant, but still pretty minor worldwide.

Twitter is global with billions (with a B) of people checking it regularly. That crosses the line from private enterprise to "must be deliberately conscious of social impact" for a responsible, honorable, and virtuous organization.

And they recognize this, because that's the exact excuse they use for silencing voices they dislike: because they know their broad social and cultural impact.

Yet because they are driven by principles of control, ideology, and a certain religious fervor rather than joy in liberty and expression, their response is 100% in the wrong direction.

And this all happened because Trump won in 2016. Because he and his supporters were able to use social media to bypass and negate the legacy media monopoly on information and ideas, they reeled with horror at what had happened. For almost two years now, they've been struggling with how to prevent that from happening ever again.

Like Sandy Hook, the issue was "gun free zones" are once again open targets for killers. But Jones takes the lead with "they were actors, no kids died, etc." ... and the MSM follows up by using Jones to represent the "right's view".

But sensationalism has always sold, and Gore's version of "Climate Change" is a much bigger fraud backed by most of our government. So the climate deniers (what Orwellian terms they use) will be banned, and still forced to pay their fair share of "carbon tax" to enrich the UN globalists, that actually are involved in human trafficking ... (but mentioning that will also be a hate crime).

They can ban them because their name ends in G. We can botch and moan about it all we want, but we can't be framing this as a pure free-speech issue in the way we would if the government were doing this. By far our best option is ti flex our economic muscle by abandoning the platforms. We certainly don't want to talk about giving the state the power to impose or enforce "equal time" regulations. At best, it's an ad selling service. But, is it any good as that?

I question the efficacy of ads in general (personal bias since so few seem to work on me), but to value a company that does nothing else but shovel ads so highly seems insane.

Yes.

"Advertising", in general terms, doesn't have to be "that" effective. Returns in fractions of percentages are a good thing - and beat the alternative (no sales)

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I think advertising has its place and use, but its very limited, and most of what people get from these social media sites is grossly overestimated and misused.

I have heard from literally thousands of people and businesses that Facebook advertising is an utter waste of money and time. Worthless, completely without value. But people buy it and when they get sales, attribute it to ads. Its like people who figure the stars caused their crops to be more productive that year, so they go all into astrology.

Eventually, I think people will wise up to this (and the limited impact of social media outrage on businesses) and that will be the collapse of these platforms. It doesn't matter how many people or who uses your website if you don't make any money at it.

They can make whatever decisions they want as to hwo they allow on their platforms. They can ban people for speech they consider offensive, they can ban them for wearing the wrong color shirt. We just got through fighting - and winning - that battle from the opposite position.

YOU'RE MISUNDERSTANDING THE POINT.

The Left just spent an entire decade forcing society down the "Bake that cake!" rabbit hole, in which is was ruled that ALL companies MUST accept as clients ALL customers, whether they like those customers or not, to the extent of being forced to write out (i.e. publish) the customer's opinion, even if you disagree with it.

The left "won" this argument by framing it as neutral "non-discrimination."

So all we're doing now is FORCING THE LEFT TO PLAY BY ITS OWN RULES.

We didn't make these rules. The Left did. And they forced the rules on society.

And now the Left is trying to act like the rules don't apply to them.

Fuck that. The rules, as odious as they might be, apply to everyone. We MUST insist on this.

433 Folks, if you really want to end this thing--go for social media's jugular. Require by statute payment and permission for any of these sites to sell your information to another party. Each person must affirmatively buy in, be notified of who the information is to be sold to, and get a payment for allowing the sale to go forward.

The ju jitsu involved is that the FSA wants "free money", some people want privacy, and others are being appalled by Big Tech's unpersonings. The only folks standing in the way are Gopesters.

Much of the power of social media and Amazon to some extent rests on inflated stock prices based on monopoly conditions with the people providing content not being paid for it. If actual cash starts to outflow from these companies, billions in fake value go up in flames. Much of their accounting is probably like Enron's and an investigation into this would help.

Oh, and unleash the trial lawyers for restraint of trade, collusion, etc. Many states actually have little Sherman Anti-Trust acts and thus action can occur in state courts--especially those hostile to big tech. Multiple lawsuits in different locales and involvement of friendly state attorney's general offices can hobble Big Tech just like Big Tobacco. Discovery of what Big Tech has been doing will be just as poisonous to them as Big Tobacco. Multiple class action lawsuits increase the uncertainty to investors and reduce stock values.

As for me, I use alternative tech for most of everything that I can avoid. I also grew up using things like gopher and usenet. Then again Ace's place kinda resembles them in tech level.

In essence, kill their stock prices and oligarchs are too busy worrying about where their next billion will come from rather than harassing others.

Because the reality is far different from theory on this. There's a reason why the anti-trust laws came about at the end of the 19th century. The reality is that business tends towards monopoly. Twitter, Facebook, and Google are pretty close to that now. Thinking that someone else will to enter the marketplace is unlikely. Just from a business standpoint, the competitors get swallowed by the big fish to maintain the monopoly.

On the other side, the SJW's put press on banks, IT vendors, etc. to not supply you with what you need to get your business going.

Right now, decrying gov't regulation while being ruled by corporate fiat isn't any better.

I wondered what the redux would be. The Left, of course, will never give up on the quest to resurrect the gatekeeper status they enjoyed with the Big Three and the Fairness Doctrine.

Now I know. Worst of all, the new censorship scheme will be much more effective and easy to implement than Net Neutrality. Retro-fitting the existing friendly tech firms as a ready-made Ministry of Public Enlightenment obviates of all of the technical hurdles.

All they have to do, is pick up a phone, or send an email, and the wrongthinker is finished.

That only works when the other side thinks you deserve a modicum freedom, not being put up against a wall and "deplatformed" if the disagree with you.

513 388 There is wishcasting, and there is reality. Here is reality: Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, and Instagram (owned by FB) are private companies. They charge nothing for their services. They can make whatever decisions they want as to hwo they allow on their platforms. They can ban people for speech they consider offensive, they can ban them for wearing the wrong color shirt. We just got through fighting - and winning - that battle from the opposite position.
Posted by: Shane McGowan's Liver at August 07, 2018 01:21 PM (E1ETU)

This is true. We don't want government to intervene. The best outcome would be if conservatives and libertarians simply decamped to actually free services. The problem is that that is a win for the left anyway because the services we abandon are the most popular venues.

Once again the left proves that it will play chicken with the nation and it isn't going to swerve. What do they care? They hate the nation anyway.

Article II is the article that establishes the Executive branch and reads, "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.". I believe "civil officers" means Secretaries or other officers of the executive branch.

The Senate (and House for that fact...see Traficant, James) can expel one of its own members, which is what they did to William Blount.

---
There's a difference expressed by Mike Lee of all people. These social platforms hide behind the legal definitions of public forums to deflect law suits against the content that they "publish".

Thus they are trying to both claim to be a "neutral forum" and so aren't responsible for the content on it, and ban voices they don't like because it's a "private concern" and they can control content.

388 There is wishcasting, and there is reality. Here is reality:
Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, and Instagram (owned by FB) are private
companies. They charge nothing for their services. They can make
whatever decisions they want as to hwo they allow on their platforms.
They can ban people for speech they consider offensive, they can ban
them for wearing the wrong color shirt. They can ban them because their
name ends in G. We can botch and moan about it all we want, but we can't
be framing this as a pure free-speech issue in the way we would if the
government were doing this. By far our best option is ti flex our
economic muscle by abandoning the platforms. We certainly don't want to
talk about giving the state the power to impose or enforce "equal time"
regulations. We just got through fighting - and winning - that battle
from the opposite position.

Instapundit knows a thing or two about the law, he suggests - in a blog post, not in a civil suit, so YMMV - that he has an anti-trust suit (I bet that can get some mileage even, perhaps especially, with Leftist judges) and conspiracy to violate civil rights. I would not be surprised to see Insty and/or Volokh or some of the other legal eminences on the right get in on this - because they know for whom the bell tolls.

550 GOOG, AMZN, FB, TWIT are not private companies, they are publicly owned and traded. They have to answer to shareholders and the SEC, and have different rules.

I'm not clear on all the rules or differences, but it is not the same as "privately held" companies. imo a publicly owned company must preserve shareholder value, so pursuing a political agenda that attacks half the customer base would be a bad thing.

So they are trying the "just trying to minimize complaints" approach, even if the complaints are actually coming from Soros funded SJWs in some cubicle, or 10,000 other sjw's motivated by the college prof's diatribes. Or the company might us the SPLC to justify their (actually leftist based) attacks and censorship.

552 Social media sites post their terms of service, and you are subject to cancellation if you violate their tos. If you are not in violation, sue and let the courts decide, especially if it causes you monetary damage. I don't want a new government agency to control users of social media. I don't want a government agency deciding that a social media platform is too big to fail and requires huge expenditures of taxpayer funding to manage its user base. You want an internet presence, set up a server in your basement and have at it. Facebook wants to start banning? Fuck em. Let them do it. Ban everybody. Eventually a competitor will come along.

I propose an emergency Executive Order. Too many citizens have seen
their personal data breached and sold by nefarious actors, and that data
must be protected! So this is my proposal :
1) No corporation "owns"
the personal data of U.S. citizens. Every single citizen must
specifically and explicitly opt-in to any data collection and-
separately - must also agree to any use of the data.

2) Any firm
possessing or using personal data belonging to U.S. citizens takes joint
and several liability for any misuse of that data.

The reason I propose this is because the mere idea this might happen will cause a traumatic reaction from the FANG companies and an immediate panic amongst them. Just throw this out there as a possibility and ask them for comment, and watch what happens. They will freak.

And this fascist lefty crap will stop immediately.

585 And how long before they find a way to prevent DNS servers from taking you to the URL when you punch in "infowars"?

Well, Google has DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. In the past I pointed my AP to those and not my ISP's DNS servers. They were better maintained, and faster.

Google wouldn't have to find a way, they'd just edit infowars out of their DNS server. Fortunately, Google doesn't run the internet, yet. So we still have other well maintained DNS servers to point to. Cloudflare is a good one. Norton actually maintains several good DNS servers with different levels of filtering.

They've got a basic one that filters out janky spyware websites. They've also got one that has content filters (like porn).

I'd recommend taking a look around. All you have to do is set your access point to use one of these for your default and another one for your fallback. Then anyone on your home network automatically uses it.

Might speed up internet, also might save you from some spyware crap.

Twat and Face have decided to actively support the data of the Democrat
party, and have decided to actively eliminate or censor those sites that
offer other opinions.

These platforms have become political
sites. That is their right. Fine. But since they chose to become
political machines, they are subject to Federal Election Commission
laws.

And the going rate for an electronic impression is what, a
penny, two cents? How many billions of hits does Twat and Face get? So
hundreds of millions of dollars of measurable value is given to the Dems
by Twat and Face.

Twat and Face have broken laws, and it is time to pay up. Someone needs to go to jail for such extreme lawbreaking.

Ding. At some point they cross the line not political advocate don't they?

If you are going to say that you are simply a public bulletin board (Don't regulate me!), then you have to act like it. If you then edit your board in such a way to present only one opinion , you are not a public bulletin board anymore and I would argue subject to some FEC regulation, no? Said not a lawyer.

606 If just one racist comment is allowed on Tweeter, You Tube, or Facebook, that is one too many.

Well.... who gets to decide what is racist??? There are some pretty innocuous ideas and words that get labeled "racist" by my betters. This a is common occurrence and is not an outlier. PBJ sammiches have been deemed racist fer chrissakes. Simply criticizing a black president was construed as 'racist" by not a small number of people.

I hope your being being ironic, but banning sites is a stupid idea and give in to the inner facists. Words and ideas should be freely bantered about in the marketplace of ideas. And that especially includes controversial, even despicable ones.

607 We can botch and moan about it all we want, but we can't be framing this as a pure free-speech issue in the way we would if the government were doing this.

This is incorrect. We can't frame it as a First Amendment issue because the First Amendment is clearly limited to stopping the government from restricting speech.

However, we absolutely can frame it as a free speech issue, because like it or not, these companies have become the forums on which people gather to express their ideas and contribute content.

Right now, they're not legally classified as common carriers, but I'm mostly convinced they should be. People communicate on Facebook much more than they did on the phone when the telephone became a common carrier.

609 I do fear we are on the cusp of two directions of history:

1) tyranny through the internet, where our dependence upon it and the incredibly detailed information about everyone results in overlords who rule us by controlling what we receive and can do
2) A possibly violent revolt against those who would control us, and a movement to freedom on the net.

610 After reading Jon Ronson's Them, there is almost no time when the first thought in my head, hearing the words "Alex" and "Jones" (in that order) wasn't "crank".

It's totally disgusting that Big Social Media colluded to blacklist him, though. Can't they just ignore him, like *I* usually do?

The answer actually is NO. The left always argues that damage is being done if people are allowed to distribute unapproved opinions and adopt political opinions unlike theirs.

Conservatives understand economy and know limited markets when we see them. The Dems are all about *imagining* what would happen if this forever-fringe, minority opinion were to become the MAINSTREAM!!! (because they don't understand how markets work--and that most people are "buying" the viewpoint they already subscribe to)

IN HAPPENED IN GERMANY!!!

Just alarm. No real analysis of whether or not we're like Germany. Just hair-on-fire extrapolations from mere-patriotism and pride in country to NATIONALISM!! And conclusions from whatever remnants of traditional German culture the Nazi New Men allowed to hang on to express the longstanding superiority of German culture.

The real alarmists on the left. The real reactionaries are on the left. The real blacklisters are on the left. The real threat to "democracy", which is really a self-rule representative republic, are on the left--the elite left that think it's reckless to serve a large enough contingent of hoi polloi that don't think like they do.

Fuck. every. pseudo-intellectual. one. of. them.

They won't debate in open, honest fashion, they have to co-opt words and form crowd reactions to their warped re-definitions. Because THEY know HOW to do this. Knowing how to manipulate people is what makes the elite really good at their profession--not knowing how opinions work, and that a clash of opinions is inevitability of a republic.

617 The last point you made is especially salient. Dictators "legitimizing" opposition groups has followed some of the most dastardly, dictatorial regimes in history. Just ask people who suffered under the Vichy Government quislings.
I loath the French's and Kristol's almost more than I loath the Left-Wing Dictators. At least the latter is mostly honest about their pursuits. The former wants to infiltrate us, and help them pick who goes to the gallows.

---
There's a difference expressed by Mike Lee of all people. These social platforms hide behind the legal definitions of public forums to deflect law suits against the content that they "publish".

Thus they are trying to both claim to be a "neutral forum" and so aren't responsible for the content on it, and ban voices they don't like because it's a "private concern" and they can control content.

THIS.
You cant have it both ways.
You are either like a phone company, which cannot be sued if a customer slanders or even conspires murder against someone.
OR, you are like a magazine, which CAN be sued for content.

The minute you decide to monitor content, I think you have made the magazine decision.

Hmmm, seems incompatible with his oath of office. Seems like he either needs to resign or be resigned. Plus, since he's clearly doesn't believe in constitutional protections, a Bill of Attainder should be imposed on his family.

623 * Note that I say "free speech" and not "First Amendment." The First Amendment only limits government, but "free speech" is -- or at least until very recently was -- a broader social value in favor of not shutting people up just because we don't like their ideas or politics. As for the "private companies can do what they want," well, that's not the law, or the custom, and hasn't been for a long time. It's especially not true where the companies have, as these companies have, affirmatively represented to users and shareholders that they don't discriminate based on viewpoints.

Farcebook is a publicly traded company, they are not a private entity, and as such they have to abide by certain rules. If the baker has to bake the cake for the stool pushers, Farcebook, Youtube, and Gargoyle have to allow people to post what they want - because they are publicly traded companies. Viewpoint discrimination is the same as race discrimination, ILLEGAL!

624 I predict the next step will be for upstream providers to start closing the accounts of sites like Gab, and this one, which still allow conservatives to speak.
Should this happen it will be necessary to pursue anti-trust litigation to get that connectivity back. It would be nice if Attorney General Sessions could do this for us, but he seems reluctant to do anything at all these days, so perhaps that lawsuit will need someone like Peter Thiel to step in and fund it again.

628 I believe that banning Alex Jones has a more nefarious intent: Big Left is hoping that Republicans will publicly support their right to free speech, to allow the Democrats to conflate the Right's support of Jones' speech rights to actual support of Jones himself and his views. It's the stuff of pre-midterm attack ads. The seemingly coordinated banning was the giveaway.
