The story was broken by The Telegraph:Britain has secretly abandoned its blanket opposition to the death penalty and Guantanamo Bay to allow two notorious members of the "Beatles" group of Isil terrorists to be sent to America, The Telegraph can reveal. Documents seen by this newspaper reveal that the UK Government has agreed to hand over intelligence to help prosecute the captured jihadists Alexanda Kotey and Shafee El-Sheikh, who both held British citizenship, in the US courts. In a letter sent by Sajid Javid to Jeff Sessions, the US Attorney General, the Home Secretary says that Britain will demand no "assurances" that the pair will not be executed in America.This doesn't represent a major rethinking on the death penalty by Britain. It seems like just a small, keep-it-quiet acknowledgement that even a government that opposes the death penalty has to admit that sometimes it is well-deserved.

When we actually carried out a couple of executions back in the 1990s, it's because we had a state AG who did his job. A few years ago he did an interview and said hey I just filed the paperwork as soon as it came in. I set up a thing where I got alerted as soon as an appeal came in or got shot down and just filed the next phase in a timely manner.
So if it's not getting done in your state, someone isn't doing their job.

This whole idea of "courtesy" clearances maintained by ex-govt. people is ridiculous. If they aren't actively assisting/working on something important, then their clearance ends when their job ends. Duh.
This is a long-standing practice. And a good example of the collapse of standards and the low quality (intellectually and personally) of the people who were, disastrously, raised to senior positions, most especially under Clinton and far worse under Obama.
This never would have been an issue in the first ..... oh, the entire HISTORY of security clearances. Because never before have senior ex's behaved this way upon leaving office (or, in the case of the felons on the list, while IN office).

When I got out of the USAF, my security clearance was 'inactive'. After I stopped wasting time in retail, I decided to use it to get a job. They 'activated' it (after 9 months) and off I went into the Federal Leviathan (as a contractor anyway). So you don't lose it right away. It just goes 'inactive'. Probably after a year or so, it get axed. Brennan and the rest of the merry band of insurrectionists need jail time, not just loss of clearance.

Such people are apparently too stupid to realize that that perspective - which is weak and pusillanimous itself - totally vitiates their sanctimonious moralizing.

Bottom line: if you oppose the death penalty - and there are good reasons for doing so - then it has to be a blanket, across-the-board opposition. You don't get to pick and choose the cases.
After all, death penalty supporters aren't proposing to whack people for having overdue library books. Opponents who make ANY exceptions are just arguing about when to use the death penalty, not whether to use it. /rant

you've run out of appeals sentencing, but they don't set a date. When
you hear footsteps approaching your cell, you have a moment of
reflection. They eventually get around to it, but I'm sure some of the
corrections people have a little fun in the meantime.
