Security clearances need to be yanked not so much because the malefactors will have access to secret materials, but so that we can prosecute the living shit out of anyone who DOES have access leaking it to the malefactors.
Otherwise, the leakers could claim that they were merely providing secret information to someone with a security clearance, so no biggie. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara, now with a spark of divinity at July 23, 2018 03:47 PM (YqDXo) 59

In some, many cases, people in gov go from one job to another and they both require a security clearance. Even many jobs in the private sector require one. SO it makes no sense to revoke security clearances before their expiration dates. AND AND AND as I and others have said without access, a security clearance is useless. So while I am all in favor of punishing these commie cock suckers and I am vindictive, revoking their security clearances now is mostly just for show.

By revoking the clearance, they have to be sponsored by a new administration for the clearance and must pass the clearance investigation - again. This means they cannot invoke immunity to any question asked of them. This pretty much ends their future administration roles considerably. No legacy for Obamites.

You can count me in with those who think security clearances ought to be terminated when employment is terminated. Makes no sense for them to retain a clearance afterward, unless going to another job that requires it. Posted by: Bear with Assymetrical Balls at July 23, 2018 03:42 PM (FCAbp) It costs an obscene amount of money and takes almost a year to get a basic clearance if a private citizen. That's not plausible for filling jobs with new hires if they can't get to work until a year after being hired. IIRC the clearance was good for 5 years after leaving the company you got it with. The problem I see is that as long as anyone currently in the CIA/FBI/DoJ retains a security clearance, the information spigot to these crooks will probably remain wide open. Theoretically true. And perhaps some true-believers would be willing to risk real, serious time in Club Fed for these hacks. This is all so esoteric to me.... Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at July 23, 2018 03:58 PM (AzW6q) Your confusing 2 things. Everything in the Military/Gov/Intel is compartmentalized. For example I have a certain level of Security Clearance. And in my case I have access to those systems that allow me to do my job. Some of it is pretty sensitive. That does not mean I have access to less sensitive system because my security clearance is so high, because I have no need to access those systems in my job. But I could not access any of them without a security clearance. It's the same way it always works. Upper level people get to keep their active clearances, the rank and file get 'em jerked the instant their employment ends.
Worked the same way with computers/laptops when I was in private industry. A management type leaves their job, for whatever reason, they take their computer (and anything else they want) with them, no questions asked. When some low-level office worker or programmer leaves, everything is checked and repossessed on the spot. Posted by: West at July 23, 2018 04:04 PM (7Fa8Y) 203

Could be a flypaper trap to see who on the inside is leaking to these POS. Could also be that this sort of thing has never really been done and nobody knows the process. They keep their clearances after leaving the government because it's DC. With the clearance, they can see their "access" as consultants and lobbyists.
So the system allows them to keep it as part of an "old boys network" of scratching each other's backs. Some high level people keep it to write Memoirs, or to consult on special cases, or maybe just to advise. Or maybe they get a gig on CNN, and they need to call and find out the dope before they talk about a certain subject just not to say anything inappropriate. That is considered "need to know" in DC. They are the elite. We should be thankful they don't force us to avert our eyes when they are seen in public. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest at July 23, 2018 04:10 PM (LWu6U) 241

So he can lie through his teeth. ======== No. He can not. You don't get immunity for perjuring yourself in the case at issue. Its for past crimes, so as to prevent you from taking the fifth. So you have to testify. Its going to be very interesting indeed, because he's going to get cross examined and put on the record not by congressmen/dentists but by actual sharks. Not sure how he's associated with Manafort however. Strange. Very strange. Posted by: simplemind at July 23, 2018 04:11 PM (iZocF) 247

If you have a clearance and leave the job the clearance still exists based on its length. If you get hired somewhere else, they can reactivate the clearance. If it has been revoked, they would have to sponsor you for a new clearance and there will be questions on why your clearance was revoked. Most employers will waive on you at that moment. For a Rice or Clapper certain employers will go the sponsorship route just cuz of who these people know. It doesn't guarantee the clearance will be reinstated.

Lil' Bennie's cuck mentor Frenchie just wrote a denial over at NRO that he's not now, nor has he ever been, a hypocrite for demanding Roseanne be fired and later denouncing James Gunn's dismissal. It's another new low in several years of lows at NR and an astonishing read.

No offense intended but your clearance isn't exactly the same as the ex CIA chief.

Not really. Yes he probably still had a security clearance but someone allowed him access. which was a mistake
Posted by: Nevergiveup at July 23, 2018 04:05 PM (Lg2h/) It was my understanding he was allowed continued access specifically because he still had the security clearance . Though I'm sure they would have reinstated it temporarily to allow him to review the papers if he had not retained it. Revoking clearances may impact their revolving door sinecure salaries! It's their right to cash in! AND! Promote sedition! What will be the point of working for the feds?

Posted by: Inspector Robert Mueller at July 23, 2018 04:15 PM (O6j8 Between the two, Gunn's was way more egregious. Also, pointed to a level of stupidity that he never deleted them. If he no longer believed it, why leave them out there...the tweets. Also, if you work for Disney, not HBO, you have gotta know you are gonna be held to a different standard. I think both of them were connected to Disney. That Gunn guy though...I think there is a real sicko inside him somewhere. Roseanne has always been unhinged. Ok, in other words, all bullshit reasons. The only legit reason I could think of is if they needed to be consulted on something in the future. But then, their clearance could just be revoked and restored when needed. But in the case of these clowns, they are hostile to American interests. There's no reason why this administration would consult with them. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at July 23, 2018 04:25 PM (/qEW2) 285
the problem is they were monetizing their clearance. We paid for it. It is not their to monetize. telling anyone (while you are on CNN/MSNBC/whatever) that this is what you think and I have a clearance is "monetizing"
on 45s ability to revoke. all US clearances are based upon authority of "the president" so yes, he can take away what he gave. Posted by: TANSTAASFL at July 23, 2018 04:31 PM (Wa5hI) 286

If there is no need to know, there should be no clearance.
As soon as these people left government employment, there was no longer any need for them to know anything, therefore security clearances should have been terminated at that time. Security clearance is not a perq. It is not something that belongs to the holder. It is a tool the government uses to control information. The fewer clearances out there, the simpler the process of controlling information. Clearances should terminated on the last day of employment as a matter of routine. Clapper you are goldang straight that Trump can pull your security clearance. He's got the authority to do that. What he can't do, that I wish he could, is put a sock in your yap so you and your buddies stop blabbing. These guys have proven that they don't have the interests of the US at heart, and the security door ought to be slammed in their face ASAP. With maybe a cell door slammed in their face a little bit later.

Why would NON-EMPLOYEES of the government keep their security clearance when they don't need to know?
There are umptimillion advisory panels in the government for these refugees to squat in between Administrations that require a security clearance to join. Loosing your security clearance is a "death sentence " in DC Posted by: SMOD at July 23, 2018 07:59 PM (e8kgV) 291
