The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Don’t lock me out just because I’m not a homeboy. You ought to be thankful that I care enough and I’m interested enough and passionate enough to want to make things better. I’m certainly permitted to do what I have done.” Carol Hafner, Democratic candidate for Congress.

Quote II

I haven’t counted to see how many Americans died as a result of Putin’s reacquiring Crimea—yes, I have! ZERO. Meanwhile, Mexican drug couriers kill more Americans every week than the Communist Soviet Union did when it shot down Korean flight 007 for flying into its airspace, almost starting a nuclear war. Ann Coulter

Quote III

The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults. Alexis de Tocqueville

Quote IV

“These documents are heavily redacted but seem to confirm the FBI and DOJ misled the courts in withholding the material information that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC were behind the ‘intelligence’ used to persuade the court to approve the FISA warrants that targeted the Trump team,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

This certainly falls into tonight's FFS and SMFH headlines.

Any one with a TV has seen Phil pushing Flex Seal . Does the shit stuff really work?

Can you really patch a huge hole in a boat with flex seal?
Flex Seal, the “miracle cure” liquid-rubber material makes some pretty bold claims in their numerous TV commercials. From taping together a sawed-in-half boat to making a boat with a screen for a bottom float again, there are reasons to be skeptical of the product.

My personal experience? It has patched a banged up aluminum canoe of mine fairly well. Too bad the damn guns sank though.

Dave Rubin, a patient man. How do you converse with someone when the other party doesn't want to? Patience is a virtue. I guess.

*****

Sorry to borrow a Hillary line, But, at this point what difference does it make?

On Thursday afternoon, it was reported that the NFL’s Miami Dolphins would suspend and/or fine players who protest during the national anthem.

*****

Don't giggle like I did. The Young Turks being sued for racial discrimination.

Sounds like a bogus charge. But.............

*****

What a surprise. Big, bad Barack Hussein Obama goes after one of his in Syria.

When a U.S. citizen heard he was on his own country’s drone target list, he wasn’t sure he believed it. After five near-misses, he does – and is suing the United States to contest his own execution

The ONT Musical Interlude

July 22, 2015, New research found that a person's taste in music may offer insight into the way in which they think. A study found empathetic people preferred more mellow, low-energy music, while those who were "systemisers" - people who seeked to analyse patterns in the world enjoyed punk, heavy metal and more complex music overall. Researchers at Cambridge University, England had recruited 4,000 participants and put them through a series of different tests. via thisdayinmusic.com

There was a reason for the Florida Docs vs. Glocks legislation. Unfortunately, it was struck down. Quite frankly it's none of the medical's community G-d damn business what legal products I have in my home. And if I felt in danger of someone or something my doctor or his his nurse practitioner are the last people I would tell. h/t redc1c4

Firearms violence killed more than 36,000 people in 2015, twice as many as brain cancer killed, and slightly more than motor vehicle incidents killed. Of those 36,000 deaths due to firearms, 22,000—a full 61 percent—were suicides. About 13,000 (36 percent) were homicides and the remaining 1,000 (3 percent) were due to unintentional incidents. Firearms also accounted for more than 67,000 additional non-fatal injuries, though that number may be a significant underestimate, given that nonfatal gun violence is much trickier to measure than deaths.

Physicians represent not only the front lines of treating gun violence, but also of preventing it in the first place.

Quit worrying about guns. Sanctimonious physicians heal thyself.

"They" laughed at "us" when we asked what is next on your list of acceptable behaviors, Pedophilia?

Well, when you set low bars you are seldom disappointed. However, you might win a Genius Award.

A Florida man who tussled with a cop trying to arrest him for disorderly conduct later said that he "really enjoyed resisting" because it was like being on “Live PD,” a cable program that chronicles the mayhem police officers encounter on the night shift.

A patrolman was dispatched yesterday to a home in Sebastian, a city near Vero Beach, after a 911 caller reported that a man wielding a golf club was chasing a woman.

16 Thanks, MisHum!

On the de Tocqueville quote, I have always been of the opinion that the Enlightenment is the recognition of man's imperfection and his imperfectibility. Rather than try to force the issue (like the millenial cultists called "Communists" do), we simply try to adapt and get better over time. It is a rather profound good.

And the pedophilia thing was called early on by the "religious right." I don't especially like the "religious right" but they were right to fear the "slippery slope" when we started legislating on marriage.

38 I should be more upset by the cuckservative media's spinelessness this week, but really that isn't news. Watching Andrew McCarthy admit that the FISA centerpiece is based on mainly, maybe even solely, on the pee dossier? That is a major concession, especially from a National Review writer.

42 That linked article about cowboys is not only annoying, it represents what happens when you forget history. Most cowboys were white, yes. Basically all of them were men, yes. But after the War Between the States, a *lot* of freed blacks moved West and became - you guessed it - cowboys. Hard, rough work - but you're a damned free man ranging the West and doing the work.

How ignorant. The migration of freedmen to the West led to some of the Western states (like Wyoming, starting in 186 to refuse racial discrimination at the polls, or to explicitly grant black suffrage for state or territorial matters. Where did all these blacks come from? Oh right, those ones who ranged out to the West after the War was over. Black people were relatively uncommon in the West prior to that (though certainly not unheard of).

What a bunch of assholes.

From a true Mom n' Pop little diner, and with the Real Maple Syrup.

Served HOT, with a couple o' strips of nearly-crisped bacon on the side.

Add with that a piping hot cup of a superior grade of coffee, poured from a freshly made pot.

Small glass of cold water, no ice.

That's a good breakfast, any hour of the day.

Houston dog show weekend is over, thank God. The good news is, Her Majesty and I are still married.

Little Delilah was Select Bitch and Best Owner-handled again in a very large entry for another 5-point Grand Championship major. After her first weekend as a special, Lila has 15 of the 25 points and all three majors she needs for her GCh; she could conceivably finish at the Kenner, Louisiana shows in a couple of weeks.

Her Majesty's knee was hurting her too much to take Lila into the Owner-handled Hound Group, so I had to show her and she placed fourth. Had to be her quality because it couldn't have been my handling skills.

Don't know. Bought some flex seal stuff a long time ago, when it first came out. I assume their flex-glue is just construction adhesive, which will pretty much do everything they advertise their flex glue will do.

Same thing with all the gorilla products. The original gorilla glue worked well but none of their other stuff seems special, though it all works fine - as well as any of the other brands of the same type of stuff.

But they know that we are an immature society that is still in the infantile throes of brand recognition. It's the worst on the internet - the first site to do something often gets the traffic for no reason other than people know the name - but it's pretty bad elsewhere.

So much truth to this. Parallel societies exist in Europe and the cops do nothing. Well, maybe they aid and abet. (E.g. Rottherham)

Let the pedos out themselves so we can lock them up. Because if it is an "unchangeable sexual orientation" then children are in danger. It does appear to be unchangeable...ask those who "treat" them. The expectations they will re-offend are very high. In fact, there is no known successful treatment.

I didn't read her article, but if she is looking for acceptance of pedos and putting children in danger as a form of tolerance, well, she's off her nut. It will go to the courts if this crap starts. It is not near the same thing as homosexuality between adults. Any person with common sense should be able to make that argument.

I would doubt it, but simply because when you look into the actual history of the period, you'll find that almost all of the big cattle barons were financed (and answered to) large New York financial consortiums. The popular tale about somebody starting off as a cowboy and rising to the top was actually quite rare, the only one I can think of off the top of my head was the famous Samuel Maverick, and even he started off pretty rich.

119 But if you try to equate homosexuality with pedophilia, you get shouted out of decent society."

not that I feel the need to make a big defense, but to be fair it should be pointed out that having sexual relations with those below what we term "the age of consent", whether male or female, has always been considered to child abuse. Our society has gotten to the place where we really don't have any good justifications left (that we believe in) for restricting relationships between adults, which means that I think bans against things like sister-wives and prostitution will mostly be dropped over the next 30 years or so. But child abuse truly is a different matter completely.

It's even worse than that - the left always backs themselves into the same ideological corner, over and over again. IF you truly believe (and notice the IF, I am detailing what THEY believe, not what I believe) - IF you truly believe that some people are just born "wrong" and can never change, then, once you decide that those people are damaging to your ideal society, your ideology leads to the obvious conclusion that these people must be eliminated, for the overall good. This is EXACTLY the thought process that drove the Germans in the 30's. This is the kind of thinking that leads to death camps that execute 20 million people, because someone has decided that they were "wrong" from birth and can never be changed.

The left is always headed towards this same end, even though most of them are too stupid to realize it. The evil part is that the ones at the top DO realize it, and they hope for it. Just like before.

152 As much as I like Coulter, trying to compare and contrast unsanctioned criminal activity with a military shootdown of a passenger jet is very flawed.

Crimea doesn't have much direct impact on us, but it does impact our diplomacy, as we were one of the countries telling Ukraine they would be fine after giving up their nukes. What country will ever be stupid enough to believe that line again?

No. Not at all. That is the Christian view, though it is not exclusively so. The wisest ancients knew this.

Most members of the Enlightenment, OTOH, held quite the contrary opinion, believing that "Reason!" and "Science!" would lead to a progressive improvement of mankind culminating in utopia --- provided that the evil influences of the past could be cleansed and that traditional institutions could be replaced by an 'enlightened' elite.

Fortunately for us, the Enlightened thinking that characterized the Founders was of a moderate sort, tempered by English tradition, Biblical religion, and a classical education.

I was referring to the American variety. French Enlightenment was a Rousseauian nightmare. English Enlightenment was a Hobbesian nightmare. 253 Getting the nukes from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine was in our interest. Far outweighed any negative residue of later complications. And the locals had little use for them - other than as leverage to get $$$$$ (which is all the local political class, such as they were, cared about).

Each situation is different. Libya, combination of factors, prominently including enormous US credibility (as a swinger of hammers), after taking out Saddam. But Libya and others are pariah, would-be proliferators - not once in 10-generation, and generally coddled/everyone's new favorite leftover states inheriting the nukes by default.

Since the ex-Soviet nuke deals were done under Clinton, one can safely assume they weren't taken seriously, or expected to be seen as taken seriously, or the product of much actual strategy or thought, like anything else that disastrous clown-show did at home or abroad.

well it is cheaper. Branding is very effective. If you prefer Hunt's, consider yourself ahead of the game. It is like when beer snobs criticize people who like Busch or Pabst. Who is really the winner here? Someone who enjoys a cheap beer or someone who only likes $10 six packs made by brewers who could not make the exact same product again on a bet.

Words have meaning. They have power... and they are SUPPOSED to indicate what you are thinking.

Ketchup belongs in the fridge!!!! Done properly, the hot/cold contrast, be it french fries or meatloaf, is a culinary delight. The ketchup is squirted onto the plate off to the side, and the hot food is dipped into it, then eaten. I suspect you cold ketchup h8ers are in the habit of squishing the ketchup on the hot food item so that, given enough time, both items become disgustingly tepid.

339 Iran has been at war with us for decades. A real, live, shooting war. Dead people. Destruction. Most of the time against our allies and interests, sometimes directly against our personnel and installations.

We have been at war with them, on/off, only parts of this time. Trump, PBUH, takes serious issues seriously, and correctly recognized early on that Iran was among our most important adversaries, once requiring actual action, not just at the margins, as with a weak former rival like hapless Russia.

Iran's economic/financial situation has been deteriorating; the return to US sanctions is looking like it will be highly effective (global players mostly falling in line); internal unrest has been sustained and widespread. The regime may (may) be at its weakest since the revolution.

And its foreign proxies and adventures are also in bad shape (most important issue at Helsinki? election interference? - hah, that's about #9 ..... nope, Iran, as in Syria, Iran's big play, the key to their power projection)

Trash talk is a very good idea. It humiliates the regime; it will be known to everyone.

This was not something Trump just decided to dash off after seeing Rouhani's absurd fulminations. Count on it.

As you well know and Trump knows, the word Peace in Islam means something completely different than our culture. It means for Islam to conquer by force or subjugation to turn the House of War into the House of Peace (ironically Islamic) This goes back to dividing lands into two houses after Mohammed died, arguably one of the most significant deciding points in human history. It's why Jihad seeks to cover the earth. Its their justification.

Trump knows this and he knows his base knows this. This again proving he respects and is loyal to his base and America and American Citizens.

352 I believe while still DCI Pompeo talked about how Trump's tweets to foreign leaders were often chalk-talked, strategized by the relevant bureaucratic entities - they are often carefully chosen acts of public diplomacy, not just Trump's personal impulse of the moment.

Only real shooting war with Iran (not counting the small scale skirmishes Gen. McChrystal's boys had at night with the "special groups" in Iraq) was in '87, in the Gulf. Kind of funny. Reagan had blocked Iran's attempt to horizontally escalate the war with Iraq against Iraq's Gulf backers; we reflagged Kuwaiti tankers. Things got tense and then some Iranian naval commander made a boo-boo - he fired on US naval aircraft.

These aircraft had orders to respond, um, "vigorously" if fired upon. Ensuing action destroyed much of Iran's small surface fleet. Instantly. Effortlessly.

They were trying to shell the Fort Stevens shore battery on the Oregon side of the Columbia mouth.
The Japanese didn't have good bearing so they were firing off, and the battery commander did not want to give the sub a good target by firing back.

Astoria wound up with two blimp hangars to station the blimps guarding the Columbia mouth. One of them houses a very expansive air museum today.

Went back to the same Costco 3 days later and walked by the wine. Three fourths of the pallet was gone. Bought 3 bottles, and am drinking the first one now. Delicious. I would put it against any $30 bottle of red you can bring.

370 Kind of complicated, but Sundance's analysis is that the FISA application copy released this weekend was the same as one given to the Senate intel committee, which document was leaked by Wolfe to Ali Watkins. Point being that "tracer" changes have been introduced to certain documents to help hunt down leakers.

There was an announcement waaay back at one point that something like 34 leak investigations were under way. Makes sense that some of these would inter-weave with the other ongoing scandal investigations/goings on.

I really don't have an idea what you are talking about. I was telling a guy it is a good thing if he likes a cheaper brand than Heinz. The beer analogy was that it is a good thing if people like a cheaper product, they are happy and spend less money.
I realize for some reason I set you off the other night when you gave your opinion on the British University system. I made the mistake of quoting something you wrote to give MY opinion on the subject. That is kind of what the internet is all about. You say your opinion, I say mine. Obviously something set you off and the subject was personal to you. How could I have known that? I was just making political conversation.

I chose your comment to give my opinion not about the UK, though I mentioned them, but about the US college system. I made about four or five posts explaining that it was a complicated issue but mainly too many people were going to college for no good reason, accumulating a lot of debt, and not really learning too much that would help them because of all the leftist indoctrination. Basically I stand with Mike Rowe, there are other options than traditional college for recent high school grads.
If I offended you, it was not on purpose, that was not my intent. I don't know your personal history and you did not share it. But you keep sniping at me on unrelated comments. Even though many others in that thread agreed with me and none with you. You said nothing to them at all.

I am not interested in fighting anyone here. I would have hoped you would have moved on. Even in that thread I didn't respond in kind at all to your barbs. Enough okay?

383 Costco, largest buyer of wine in the world - that's pricing power.

Price is a very good guide to wine quality - but far from an infallible one. Besides, it's all about what you like. I've been lucky to have/drink some very highly prized/pricey wine. But most of the time, I'm quite happy with much cheaper stuff - and it's often quite good.

410 382-- My little town sponsored a sock hop every Friday night for several years. It's hard to believe now, but I could really dance those days. These days, a simple pavonne is just about enough to lay me out flat.

Those were the days before the Top Forty format took over the radio station. You never had any idea what was coming on next. I remember Bill Monroe's Ghost Riders of the Sage coming on right after a Bobby Rydell, followed by the Four Aces singing Love is a Many Splendored Thing.

But the the Top Forty format moved in and took over, splintering the audience. If you wanted Too Forty, you tuned in Station A, country, station B, easy listening, Station C.g

I even enjoyed the folk music, just avoiding the outright political songs. And I remember dancing the Bristol Stomp at my 8th grade graduation party the school threw for all of us -- mostly because I fell on my butt in the middle of it.

I didn't realize it at the time, but Dick Clark's Bandstand wasn't just a Philly show; it was shown all over the country. A couple times a month when I was in High School, the in bunch hopped the bus to Philly to be on the show.

439 386 qdpsteve: At least I can understand the flipping lyrics. I kind of dropped out in the mid 70s when I started having kids, and by the time I started listening again, the music had pretty much turned to garbage. People screaming into the mic, amps the size of refrigerators, and the hair. OMG, the hair. After a while, I just retreated to my soundtracks and left the metal and the hair to my kids.

Since I'd played French horn and trumpet for seven years, I was very comfortable with orchestral style music. I have said for years that the great composers, the ones who would have filled the opera houses of Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, were steadily employed writing movie scores. But I suspect the bottom is falling out of that market, too, these days. Too many movies where the director simply hired a handful of popular artists, commissions them to write a song or two, then superimposes the results on the movie. I

But I've got all of my Great White Whales these days. Scores I thought would never be released have been released, sometimes almost 30 years later. Now, all I have to do is hope that something new and interesting comes along. Two Steps From Hell is my latest obsession.

I had some bees and yellow jackets get inside. One was on a screen and you can't use a shoe for that. Used the sticky roller and it picked it right up. You may have to kill the bug after you get it though. I don't have centipedes, but I see no reason it wouldn't work.

I get close and bcz there is no wind-up or pressure needed, just plop it down. They are caught.

So we now find out that it was indeed the unverified and Fake Dirty Dossier, that was paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the DNC, that was knowingly & falsely submitted to FISA and which was responsible for starting the totally conflicted and discredited Mueller Witch Hunt!

Posted by: Bruce at July 23, 2018 06:31 AM (8ikIW)

506 So the heavily redacted FISA application to spy on Carter Page was made public because of Judicial Watch and Tom Fitton. A lot is blacked out, but it seems the FBI knew the dossier was fake, and didn't tell the court that Hillz paid for it via Perkins Coie/Fusion GPS to Steele, and it was fake.
And it was the #1 primary reason to justify the spy warrant on Page. They never told the FISA judge it was fake. They make up fake verified sources so they can tell the judge there was due diligence. Fitton calls it "the self-licking ice cream cone". When did it become ok to lie to a federal judge? I missed the memo. Being a Democrat apparently has perks. Trump should just unredact the entire thing. Then tell Sessions to get his butt in gear and investigate actively, or quit. This is really getting disgusting.

And this little gem from the survey:

approval rating within his own party at the same point in his
presidency."

It is hysteria. My sister does not follow or really pay attention to any political things.
But after the election, some friend of hers, who has a daughter that's gay, posted, basically, on how Trump! would make being gay illegal. Now my sister is little miss meme poster.
Of course my sister also forwarded emails to everyone thinking that Bill Gates would buy her a computer. Numerous times. Even after I told her it was BS.

It was classified to cover up misconduct by the FBI and the Justice Department in misleading the Court by using this Dossier in a dishonest way to gain a warrant to target the Trump Team. This is a Clinton Campaign document. It was a fraud and a hoax designed to target Trump....
....and the DOJ, FBI and Obama Gang need to be held to account. Source #1 was the major source. Avoided talking about it being the Clinton campaign behind it. Misled the Court to provide a pretext to SPY on the Trump Team. Not about Carter Page..was all about getting Trump.....
