Chris Wallace's Interview with Putin

Stream here.

Wallace had better be very tough on Putin, or else he's a RUSSIAN SPY.

Putin says he's said this before, but I don't remember it: He's saying that the hackers stole genuine information and disseminated it, and did not plant false information. He's not saying the hackers are Russian agents, but his defense, to the extent he has one, is only that the hackers didn't plant false information.

The major impact of this, unless he says more, is to cast a lot of doubt on Trump's claim that Putin's denial was "very strong and powerful." His denial to Wallace is very weak and only quibbling at the margins.

Democratic Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen on Monday called for the "military folks" to save America from President Donald Trump after Trump's much criticized press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Where are our military folks? The Commander in Chief is in the hands of our enemy!" Cohen wrote on Twitter, using language suggestive of a military coup.

52 There is no compelling evidence, or evidence at all put forward that Russia did anything to materially effect the election.

I have looked at both intel reports, I have looked at the CSV meta
data file that the IC released as supporting evidence, I have looked at
the Senate Intel committee report, I have pretty much looked at
everything I could find and there is simply nothing there to support
such a conclusion.

There is however adequate direct and circumstantial evidence to
prove beyond reasonable doubt that the IC and LE apparatus under Obama
were politicized and weaponized to exonerate Hillary Clinton and Destroy
Donald Trump before and after the election.

But we are left with a serious issue that still needs to be resolved and quickly....

Broadly speaking, our LE, IC and political bodies have coalesced and
taken as gospel that Russia materially interfered in our election and
this interference aided the current President.

The current President has pretty much with this press conference
rejected the assessments of his LE and IC apparatus and taken the word
of a foreign leader.

Now I agree with Trumps assessment and the LE and IC have been corrupted and weaponized.

But...

THIS.

IS.

A.

FUCKING.

HUGE.

PROBLEM.

And I don't know how this can be resolved to restore faith in and control of our LE and IC apparatuses.

He is on the Interpol most wanted list.

Putin says $400 million of that money was put into the American election, on Hillary's side... and that we AND the Russians should be jointly investigating it.

I work near by and take breaks to walk around Lafayette Park. Its pretty safe even at 3am. If this guy thinks the Secret Service, Park Police, DC Police, and various other agencies will let him and his little band of "resistors" even get a note out well,,,bless his heart. I was watching the other night as some drunk on a bicycle tried to scale the gate of the WH. He took one step on the gate and had 5 Fed agents on him in no time flat. They even warned him but drunks don't listen. Several cars showed up in under 30 seconds and the stupid drunk was in cuffs. Took less than a minute. So yea Philip baby, go ahead and do that. Hope I work that night. I'll bring pop corn.

176 He's saying that the hackers stole genuine information and disseminated it, and did not plant false information.

Granted, Im not following this closely, but isn't Putin's denial that it was Russian AGENTS who hacked the dnc the same as making a "very strong and powerful denial" that it was "Russia" who hacked? I.e, even if the "hackers" (fishermen?) were russian citizens, that doesn't make it a state action. Of course, putin may be lying, but that doesn't make his denial any less robust.

198 156 We put more effort into interfering in our allies elections than the Russians did in our last one. In fact, I would bet Trump's comments on Boris Johnson this week had more impact.

If the DNC brain had a 1990s understanding of basic internet security and phishing even that would have been flat. I wonder how much Nigerian scammers have taken from Podesta over the years.

And the tiny amount of Facebook astroturf...

Russia is a competitor and capable of some nasty work, but they are Saurman after his fall level of menace that we can likely come to some workable arrangement with after some effort. An enemy we know. Then work to deal with the rise of Sauron in the China sea.

Posted by: Keith at July 16, 2018 06:49 PM (USf3s)

Yeah you know we have. Not just overthrowing regimes, but sneaky shit too. Stuffing ballot boxes is probably the least of it.

And those are people we hated. We went after our allies as well. Allegedly the CIA helped get Australia's prime minister tossed out back in 1975.

I doubt we even know, or will ever know, how many times we've done this across the globe.

219 Still seems like there is nothing new in the accusations that Obama didn't know in 2016, discuss with Putin, and get Putin's assurances they would stop whatever they might have been doing. Obama "had the paper" so to speak.

Further, having all this information the Obama administration assured us all that there was no meaningful interference in U.S. elections.

As to the state of our relationship with Russia, is Trump saying anything that Obama didn't say, i.e. that we needed to "reset" our relationship with Russia (another way of saying that WE needed to change)? Didn't Obama say this about how the U.S. had been dealing with the entire world, especially Iran?

The only difference I see is that Trump is a Republican. Everything Obama did and said was worse and had objectively worse outcomes.

The FBI and intel communities are, rightly, in an existential crisis of integrity and criminality, at the highest levels - precisely for attempting to influence a presidential election. 90% of the Beltway pretends not to understand this (and one wonders whether Wray understands it, or Sessions).

Then I remember the model is just get a company and then borrow as much money as possible, slash everything to the bone to wring out as much profit as possible, and then dump the pieces for another quick buck.

It's an amazing business model and one you don't really need a kollege degree and a head for business to emulate. The mafia was doing it decades ago (you can see it in Goodfellas when the guy with the restaurant makes Paulie a partner and loses everything when the mob runs up massive debts and pockets everything).

Completely agree, I have commented similarly many times. I think it has something to do with radio vs TV. A radio talk jock has to carry the show for 3 hours, and has to take control. Otherwise, dead air, the biggest no-no in radio.

TV on the other hand has the visual to blend with the words, the sound. A silent stare or smile makes a lot of noise on TV.
Hannity cannot make the switch back and forth between the two, no matter how much he tries. Instinctively he wants to say another phrase, taught by 25+ years of 3 hours a day radio, he simply can't shut up.

I just think the easier answer is that the GOP is waiting to drop Trump's ass over any pretext ... since they didn't want him in the first place. Given how the GOP didn't want the Tea Party Movement ... even though it gave them huge mid-term wins ... I don't think it's a stretch to presume the GOP will gladly lose seats to get rid of Trump and his Deplorables.

353 Putin had the UraniumOne and Skolkovo relationship with CrookedHillary, and had plenty of kompromat on her.

The old argument why Putin might want Trump, is that the globalists plan to run the world on their own, without sovereign states. "Russia" has already gotten smaller and is a smaller power than China, so perhaps Putin would prefer Trump to the globalist cabal.

I'm not sure what emails he refers to, but by saying they were true, he is pointing at Hillary's corruption, imo. And since several foreign powers and Johnny down the street were hacking Hillary's not so private server (if she didn't just email directly, or through Awan) ... then Putin had what everybody else had (and our NSA has it).

Assange says he didn't get it from Russia ... and the time stamps show "the emails" were collected at the server. (I think it was Guccifer2 in that case, of course maybe the Clintons had Russians over for dinner and let them access the server ... pay to play, free dinner included ... who knows with grifters.

Remember what Schumer said to Trump, "Be careful, the IC has a hundred different ways to get back at you."

That was not an idle threat but perhaps a foreshadowing.

431 Twitter people are making a big deal of the arrest today of an accused Russian agent, and part of their shock seems to be that many of the blue-check mafia seem to know her. That's very upsetting to them, since they would really prefer to make her membership in the NRA more of an issue than her membership in their cocktail party circuit.

Anyway, the point I want to make is this: arresting Russian agents is traditionally a tool of foreign policy, and not a judicial process. The government identifies agents, surviels them and on occasion arrests them when it serves American foreign policy interests.

Arresting this chick today violated the Presidents Article two powers. Now, the Mueller gang has put their fingers into American foreign policy when it didn't necessarily need to be. The President has the sole power to decide when it serves our interest to indict these agents, and they should have at least consulted with the NSC before arresting her.

469 I don't think Trump said or signaled that he took the word of Putin over our IC/LE; I think he just fudged the answer to a very pointless and invidious question at a bilateral summit presser. Didn't do it all that well, but now/then Trump has events where his communications style just doesn't work that well. Today he rambled a bit, didn't finish some points.

None of which matters, because there really wasn't any (public) news out of the summit. Think about it. What are the major items on the bilateral agenda with Russia? Syria. Iran sanctions renewal. Um ...... yeah, not a lot going on. Because Russia is WEAK, and mostly inconsequential these days.

Trump did do a nice redirect when he got the AP guy's pointless and invidious question about one of the fantasy topics, and turned it back into a discussion of failings of US internal investigations. Clearly didn't answer the question - but the question clearly didn't deserve a direct answer in that context.

Best line of the presser? Putin, when he explained that meetings such as this involved two leaders representing their country's interests, and wasn't primarily based on or about "trust". Actually look at Putin's whole answer on that. Just obvious common sense to any thinking person with experience, but one that should be shoved in the face of all the lightweights and ignoramuses and their drama and stupidity.

Exactly. I don't get it. How does he benefit from calling out Trump? Either get on the train or get run over like French and Kristol.

Posted by: Fletch at July 16, 2018 08:12 PM (bWSRe)

488 Fletch, well said. I might not take Trump's approach on some of this (the rhetoric and public posture at events), but it's actions that matter. And today's presser was ridiculous - find another US/Russia/USSR "summit" where the press relentlessly poked at the most sensitive (and yet marginal) "issue" between the two sides like today. So the glad-handing approach was perfectly appropriate.

Yes. Let's talk about Clinton, Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Serbia and how Wesley Clarke got relieved when he tried to put a match to WWIII. What a dumbass. Hugh Shelton (JCoSC) was really miffed at him.

And that's how you get more Putin, dumbasses.

Posted by: Bozo Conservative....menace to society at July 16, 2018 08:13 PM (S6Pax)

491 Trump has a blind spot when it comes to the Russian meddling charge because he knows that they "meddled"--like they always do. But Trump doesn't want that fact to be misconstrued as handing him the election. So when he gets asked about it, he loses his composure and starts going on about his "brilliant" campaign and how the Obama administration dropped the ball--both TRUE. But he should have dodged the question about who he believes more. In fact, he should have said, "next question."
That may have had more impact.
But then they would just find something else to get hysterical about.

Homeland was supposed to diminish FBI and CIA since they failed so badly; leave "law enforcement" only to FBI, intelligence/counterintelligence only to CIA. Obama expanded domestic spying and data collection to Stalin's levels. The Patriot Act did not give that mandate. It was Obama era add-ons.
Posted by: runner at July 16, 2018 08:09 PM (bUjCl)

Well ... like alot of The Great Plans of "W" ... that one ended up going a little sideways. That always seemed to happen to poor ol' "W".

The Domestic Surveillance ball got rolling downhill thanks to "W". The camels nose got under the tent thank's to "W" and his crew - and their great idea that the best way to stop two-dozen Muslims from taking over airliners again would be to monitor almost three-hundred million US Citizens.

Once you start the notion that monitoring US Citizens phone calls, credit card transactions, and the like is necessary for "national security" ... it's never going to end well.

There has been no evidence presented in either the two IC reports, the support CSV file or the Senate Intel Committee report that demonstrates that Russia...

Materially interfered with voting or vote totals in any state or materially effected the outcome of the election via social media or direct voter engagement.

It's was all a bullhsit narrative concocted by the DNC, Hillary, GOP, Deep State Cabal to prevent Donald Trump from becoming President and once elected to effect a soft coup against his administration.

This coup continues as we speak.

511 Kreplach, I wish Trump and Co. had questioned something fundamental about NATO, but no, they're just shaking the money tree.

Don't blame them - it's the biggest inertial relic on the geopolitical scene today, with virtually no specific purpose or value to anyone (aside the doubtfully credible security guarantees to New Europe). A yuuge thing to take on. But no, the fundamental questions about NATO are not being asked by Trump, Pompeo, or anyone else.

And the stuff about the ridiculous US indictments (in both cases) is hardly a challenge to US LE. One case is floundering (it's hilarious) because some Russians have a sense of humor, the other (as has been pointed out by McCarthy and others) is being consigned to a dusty corner of DOJ, in a division that doesn't do trials much.

Wray and Sessions and others need to be thinking about what's going to happen when/if indictments of senior LE and IC figures start to trickle down. I think there a lot more minds focused on that, then on fanciful revenge strategies against Trump.

Wray and Sessions are ostensibly in charge of the investigation and prosecution of those IC and LE operators responsible for this coup d'etat.

I have seen no evidence that any of the traitors will be brought to justice.

In fact the events of the last 18 months have shown the opposite.

I really wish people would understand just how dangerous a situation we are in.

runner ... now you're just wrong.

The Patriot Act absolutely modified the FISA process to allow monitoring of US Citizens as well as non-citizens, and also removed the requirement that FISA be used EXCLUSIVELY to gain foreign intel.

And right there, runner, is the Republican Problem ... the notion that we can ever start down the road on shit like this ... and it somehow not get out of hand quickly.

That's the great big Republican Blindspot ... and you just illustrated it perfectly. The notion that we can build a Secret Police ... but it somehow not act like a Secret Police. That we'll keep that Power constrained, with Rules ... and watched over by Good Men who take an Oath.

Unfortunately, except for the odd voice here and there, no one has seriously called for the FBI to be dismantled and the IC to be scrutinized. Mueller's show indictments on the eve of the summit was a flat-out Third World policy coup attempt.

This won't end well and people need to wake up stat.
