The professor of media studies apparently sees toxic masculinity at work in the popular YouTube show Hot Ones, whose host and celebrity guest each eat a plate of hot wings “dressed with hot sauces of increasing intensity.” Her research “examines how media representations of food, cooking, and dieting construct and negotiate masculinities in our current historical moment,” and Contois’s paper in Feminist Media Studies sees dark forces at work in the three-year-old web series produced by First We Feast:In all that time, only eleven women had been solo guests on the show, a stark underrepresentation that piqued my academic interest. … My analysis of Hot Ones informs feminist media studies, as it reveals how this YouTube show creates, maintains, and manipulates inequitable gender hierarchies through the interrelated performances of gender, food consumption, and celebrity.
This "woman" looks for the clouds around every silver lining. It's a stupid YouTube show about exactly nothing. Its intent is to make people chuckle and make a few bucks for the guys producing it. There is no nefarious intent. In fact there isn't much at all going on except for people getting together for some goofs. Lighten up Emily. Go have a few beers and get laid. You might like it and you will certainly be more relaxed.

I've done legs and they turned out well. If you can find the little variety pack of flavored salts (onion, paprika, chipolte lime, monterey, etc.) that's a quick and easy way to get some flavor on them. Just use them like you'd use a rub, only a bit lighter coating because they're mostly still just salt.

Ppl get that sort of thing even these days with a seat belt as the sheering effect will cause great damage to your internals.
I'd stick to 2" chobham armor myself. With an interior spall liner.

I still remember watching the weather reports the day before Katrina hit, and thinking "I can't believe this thing is heading straight for N.O. and everyone in charge is just sitting around with their thumbs up their ass, pretending it isn't happening."
And it wasn't just me, everyone with even the slightest amount of sense saw what was coming that weekend. But that excluded everyone in authority, at every level.

I'm from a part of the world that uses a white BBQ sauce for poultry. It makes a great glaze for the last couple of minutes of cooking (hint: put it in a cooler for five minutes after removing from smoker and it will take on a beautiful finished glaze for presentation), and it's equally good as a dipping sauce.

Blanco was curled up in the fetal position - she wouldn't make a decision either way. Bush could've federalized the entire response immediately and there are many opinions on why he waited so long. I'd like to believe he wasn't trying to score some political points but who knows. I will say that when something like that happens partisanship quickly goes out the window for the folks on the ground.

Do we need to pull up the pictures of the 400 public school buses that were all sitting in the same parking lot, a few hours before the storm hit, which could have easily been used to evacuate residents in the lowest lying areas, aka 9th ward? I remember the story was that was impossible because Sunday was the school bus drivers day off. Seriously. And 12 hours later every one of those buses was under water.
Thats just one of the many idiocies that could have, should have been done differently if anyone had been paying attention.

North Alabama White Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise - Brands don't matter, but use real mayo.
1/4 cup White vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Black pepper
2 teaspoons Lemon juice
Mix. Serve over chicken or
turkey. Gets better the next day, so make ahead of time and let it sit in the fridge if you
can.

To this day the Katrina evacuation is the most successful in the history of the country. Something like 1.3 million people (1.8 maybe?) were evacuated in less than 36 hours from S. Louisiana
Compare that to the Houston attempt a couple weeks later for Rita. If that had hit hundreds would've probably died on I-10.

The Hill often has some good articles, but their comments section are absolutely toxic. Similar problem to Zero Hedge, although the toxicity of their comments sections has a slightly different flavor. I rarely go to either site anymore. Anything good that they do happen to turn up will be repeated elsewhere.

The folks that were left behind (a relatively tiny percentage of the population) weren't exactly the most mobile people. Businesses in the urban areas had been closed for approx two days prior to landfall and had empty shelves long before.
Bush didn't need anyone's permission to federalize the Nat'l Guard the day the evacuation order was given.
The evacuation order was the first in the history of New Orleans. we aren't just talking about New Orleans either, there are $billions in industrial plants in the surrounding areas. Committing to a mandatory evacuation means they lose $millions in shutdown/restart costs and disrupt commerce for the entire country. If Katrina had turned one degree an hour earlier - which happens often with storms in the Gulf - it would've been a bright sunny day and there would've been hell to pay. Calling for that evacuation was a significant risk to the economy, not just politically.

If you click that you get a comments box that shows all the html being used in the comment.
So like if you pasted someone else's comment into the box, you'll see the html used to format that comment.
when pasting you get paragraph tags mixed in or link tags which will make the entire comment have double spacing. You can edit them out and put the comment back to single spaced.
And you can remove any formatting you don't want.
Can't stick anything else in though. still good for editing stuff you paste in.

Bullshit. Bringing the National Guard onto title 32 requires a State of Emergency, that is done by the Governor. Bush could have brought them on Title 10, but that would mean they were the same as Active Duty. Posse Comitatus and all that. The Federal Government is hand tied until the State declares an emergency and requests federal help.

My first post was replying to someone who said there was nothing to criticize Bush about over Katrina. The Katrina prep and evacuation was the most successful in US history. That doesn't negate the fact that they were some unfortunate folks who were left behind (as there always will be) and the response to that left a black mark on all involved.
