We're about planted out. Spent 6 weeks planting flowers and stuff (my husband's the gardener...can you tell?) before daughter's wedding. Now just watering to keep it all alive. But I looked that up and will keep it in mind for next year!

I will be done with my present position in about four weeks. I will not miss that job one iota. It was, at the beginning, a great job, no hassles, no stress, and I could leave it at work.
But then, my bosses boss came back from leave, and from that moment forward, all hell broke loose. That woman should not be in charge of sharpening pencils, let alone running the Contracts department. Look up the word "captious." See also, mean girls of jr. high.
So, I filed a formal, written complaint, and after two months of no action, I found a new gig, at three times the pay and with actual work to do. So, more stress, more pay, more human beings who are presumably adults and behave like it.
Now my only decision is whether or not to leave a nice greasy butt print on old bosses window on the way out the door. Probably. And I'm just the ass to do it.

Also, Joaquin Phoenix will star in an upcoming Joker origin movie. I've nothing against him as an actor, but I'm not sure he'd work in this role. I'd expect them to base this on "The Killing Joke", but that is criticized as being a "refrigerator girl" story because it featured a woman in distress, so I expect them to mess around with it as well.

Hell, I even put the chainsaw to that stump, and all that happened was the chain got down in the dirt, and now I need a new chain.
The shovel got so dull because you can't put the shovel anywhere in the dirt and not hit a rock or masonry fragments. It is damn difficult to dig in the dirt when it is full of rocks, and it is exhausting for little result.
My pick/mattock is so beat up I ordered a new one from Walmart. When it was delivered it was a kid's toy. So I ordered another one from Home Depot. This one is a monster, about half again bigger than the old one I was using. I can hardly swing the damn thing.

Olympia. Government job. I've decided not to pursue it. It would have been doing work for their department of Education, and the job in Ohio, while less pay, would likely be better experience in the long run.

Succinylcholine used to be untraceable, but no more. I don't know of any poisons that still are, and suspicion of murder in this event would probably lead to gas-chromatograph testing during autopsy.
Also, if they were dead before being put in the car, I don't think the carbon monoxide would be inhaled?

The state is presently trying to figure out how to work around Janus so the money keeps flowing to the unions. To be laundered, extra starch and returned to the Dems who run the state.
Also, Olympia is way too close to Evergreen College so riots happen once in a while.

All my family live in Portland, and I love the city even if it is a lefty pit sometimes. Powell's, the dancing scene, etc. But I just don't want to try and deal with the interview process for a new job at this point. I would have turned down the Virginia job except that I've worked for the company in the past, and the clearance renewal would be very nice to have.

However, driving in, parking, wading through bums and crap holds little appeal for me anymore. Loved the McMinnville area, was married for too long to a woman from there. She liked the wine. Maybe a bit too much.

I have CO detectors in our house, and in the winter I'll keep a couple of windows cracked open. I am paranoid about that. My best friend's uncle nearly died in a cabin of CO poisoning, and was only barely able to crawl outside. They also are full of gasoline and heat. Which I learned the hard way. Had the generator running just under the eves of a screened in porch of our off grid cabin. The gas line failed leaked onto the exhaust and ignited. Putting a fire out with buckets and a pitcher pump is a bitch.

I took out seven tree stumps in the area I'm working now. One big one I can't break up and will bury it.
I'm very surprised with the progress I'm making this year. It has been an on again, off again project for 18 years.

I see one there. High CO in the brain causes changes in this MBP protein, a component of myelin. This illicits an immune response against the altered protein, which continues to act against normal MBP.
And they were able to prevent the immune response by some mechanism, which prevented the CO poisoning from having that effect.

I do know that Nenana used to have two bars, across the street from one another.
One was the Beaver Hut, and the other was Hooker's. You could stumble out of one into the other all night long. Nenana has cleaned up their act and both are gone, but Skinny Dick's is still halfway to Fairbanks from there.

OK, it's late enough and slow enough for story time.
There was a bar in Brooklyn called Jack's. (meeting the above criteria, so on topic). It was the best kind of dive bar. Beers were 25 cents, top shelf shots were $1, and this is the 80s.
If the bar were reasonable crowded there might have been a total of 32 teeth.
Now, I will occasionally want to be sociable but mostly at a bar I want to be alone with my thoughts, maybe my reflection in the mirror, but definitely not you. This one night an Irish guy was insisting on conversation. Here since '57 but sounded like he got off the boat yesterday.
I tried a ruse. I don't speak English. German, sorry, go away. Have you ever tried to stop a drunk Irishman who wants to talk?
I got stuck in a fake Hogan's Heroes accent, drawn into arguments about WWII, and generally forced into discussing life with the entire bar from the perspective of a fake entity.
I couldn't go back for six months for fear of being recognized. Fuck that Irish guy, he cost me a good dive bar.

But you need an initiator for that stuff. Industries, like mining operations, that use ANFO, generally use a capped stick of dynamite as the initiator for a big charge of ANFO.

Second, what is the evidence for any such "immune response?"
Mechanism of the "change" in the MBP protein, whatever that is?
And why would a small molecule cause a lasting "change" in a protein, long after such small molecule is long gone? What kind of change? Chemical? How exactly does something in aqueous solution at RT react with something else? Please tell me, so I can make a fortune on investing in this (see, e.g., the water gas shift reaction). In the short term, if the change should be chemical, the biomedical researchers are grossly incompetent if they don't perform the painfully obvious experiment, which I won't bore you with suggesting explicitly.
And if the change is NOT chemical, then it must be physical, right? In which case, why does it not reverse on removal of CO?
How is it that CO, which is not known to have essentially no interaction with anything apart from heme proteins in the Fe(II) state, effects all this.

"CO poisoned rats don't learn," said Thom. "But if you render their immune systems tolerant to altered MBP, by feeding them normal MBP before CO poisoning and thereby short-circuiting the lymphocyte response, the rats learn normally."
Thom says that overall this work suggests that the 50 percent or more of patients who develop brain damage following severe CO poisoning may do so, in large part, due to an autoimmune reaction. The body simply does not know when to stop attacking what it now views as an invader. "This opens up a lot of possibilities, such as treatment with immunosuppressant agents, in conjunction with standard hyperbaric oxygen therapy," he says. "Until our study elucidated this immune response, we had no motivation to think along those lines."

First, it's a very VERY beautiful coast. I know the rest of the State is beautiful, too...but 120,000 ton cruise ships don't sail very far upriver to where the salmon spawn, so my experience is limited.
Though I did ride the tourist train at Skagway, and yeah... it's breathtaking.
Because I'm an experienced hunter, I know how to scan. So even with old eyes, I was spotting Dall Sheep on the mountain slopes, clear across wide valleys, while even the tourists with binocs were failing in their quests.
'Nuff 'bout that.
The town I figured I could live in the best was Ketchikan. No roads in or out. Access by water or air, only.
IF I could figure out how to make a living there, it'd be a thing.
I'm so very damn good with tools, it makes a difference here in Texas.
Up in Alaska? "Good with tools" ought to be the State Motto.
Kind of dilutes my relative value, there.

It might be something as simple as: CO poisoning kills X number or neurons. Brain adapts, no evident damage in short term. But when other processes start killing neurons, the reserve to compensate for that is no longer there.

I came home last night and kicked out my wife of 15 years after I discovered she was cheating on me. Talk about difficulties. Yeah, I think the story was pretty clear on that point. It's illegal in Ohio. Now... I don't know anything about strip clubs, other than what I see on tv, so I don't know how often this sort of thing gets enforced.
But if Strom Daniels is getting the business by cops who don't care for her act (the political one, I mean), I really don't have a problem with that.

Its time that lawmakers in anti-gun states come to terms with the fact that technology has made certain types of laws completely useless. As much as we may all want to disarm criminals, its a lost cause. Claims that laws curtailing legal gun sales will impact criminals obtaining guns are now essentially null and void.

You would think cops have better things to do than this, unless they think illegal stuff is going on at the club. I imagine Stormy doesn't work at a high class joint. I was surprised to learn she was still stripping. Guess she was younger or better looking than I thought. Then again, strip clubs are not in my wheelhouse.
