I know most people here don't like Facebook, but they are posting some amazing testimonies from people who have walked away from the Democrat Party. Really amazing. All walks of life, all different reasons. And the support these people are getting in the comments of their posts is so heartwarming.
I have been reading them all day and it has just made my day. First to read the testimonials and read people so happy to have their eyes opened and feel free of victimhood and ignorance and next to read all the welcoming and congratulatory comments from others in the group. Just so overwhelmingly positive.

Hope you all have a great Independence Day. I will be reading the Declaration of Independence like always and reflecting what a great country we have. The baked beans are done. Potato salad is done and ready to go as well.
Recovering from cancer surgery so I am looking forward to getting out a bit and avoid the dang heat here in VA. I am doing really well and trying to get my energy back. All I want to do is sleep in the afternoon. I could get into this not working, napping when I want and relaxing.
Going to enjoy the fireworks from DC with my sister and my brother in law tomorrow night. It's become our tradition. Hope you all enjoy some as well.
Thursday and Friday may be writing some trying to put together pieces of a 6 novella set of tales I have been given.

Dreams drive me crazy, especially of late.
Two nights ago I had a dream that I was entering, and approaching, the front door to the home of a woman who I had a crush on, a LONG time ago. I especially remember the building in the dream; it was a big, gray granite apartment complex with big heavy doors and industrial-style elevators/stairs.
Weird that I would have this dream, when I think I'm pretty much over this woman. At least I didn't wake up missing her; I just woke up wondering, why?

Educated speakers of English - surely you must know some? - use "amount" in reference to continuous variables, but "number" in reference to discrete ones.
So your illiterate statement should have read: "According to the Daily Star, a fair number adies revealed all it takes is two words to make them orgasm while they’re getting it on these days."
You don't use "amount" for discrete quantities any more than you use (or should I say, "should use") "number" for a continuous quantity. "Hey, I put a number of gasoline in the tank."

My stress dreams are all about land surveying, which is my day job. Hours and hours of trying to get a plat boundary to close.
It used to be about unloading trucks at Walmart. Trucks loaded with 30,000 tiny boxes, all going to different departments.

No one has perfect grammar, but I think it's important to correct those who should know better, i.e., high school graduates and above. A journalist at least in principle makes his living through use of language. One who cannot speak in a literate fashion is no better than a surgeon who cannot maintain sterile practice.

Even I get them a skip on that one, for several reasons.
First, they're grocers. I don't expect perfect grammar or elegant exposition from them. William F. Buckley Jr. was not a grocer. So I say, fair enough.
Second, their much more egregious offense is the grocer's apostrophe, the use of apostrophe's (SWIDT) where they don't belong. My advice: if you're not sure whether or not to use an apostrophe, consider your first impulse, then do the opposite.

Shit, I've stepped in broken glass in the last few years (the dreams started long before that) and it didn't freak me out, it was just annoying because it takes forever to find all the little bits and as soon as you wrap it and take a step you realize you missed at least one.

The King's Soopers in my area have signs that say "around 15 items" on the express lanes. Works well enough grammatically, and prevents the scolds behind you from counting each item you put on the conveyor.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed and not organized in life, I have my recurring dream that I am back in college... but something or another is wrong. In one dream, it's the first day of classes, but I have no idea where to go, because I never went to get my class schedule.
In another dream, it's the 2nd or 3rd week of classes and I realize that I forgot to attend one of my classes those first 2-3 weeks. So I'm nervous about walking into the class for the first time in Week 4 having no idea about anything and having missed all that classwork. And part of me weighs the option of just dropping the course instead of trying to make all that up.
In another dream, I am actually in grad school (which I never went to). First part of the dream is great, as it's getting our apartment organized and being back with friends and meeting girls. But then the reality sets in about having to go to class and knowing I'm not smart enough to handle grad school.

-If the dog gets excited, pull the chain to the side. If you pull back, it thinks it is pulling a sled and will get more excited.
-If the dog is panting heavily or whining, give it a quick tap on the ass and sternly say, *Hey!* Stay at that point until the dog calms down and looks at you.
-You are now the Leader of the Pack.

I never fail to be amazed at how many people use harnesses or regular collars and cannot get their dogs to heel, refrain from jumping on people, or just walk calmly.
The dogs clearly want firm boundaries and parameters. But when I suggest a pinch collar to someone whose dog has just chased me, jumped on me, lunged at me (while running), I am told such collars are "cruel."

Choke chain, leash, public park at least 100 yards square, and 3 consecutive weekends.
Mark out a 100' square course with traffic/soccer cones. Hold the leash up and and close to your chest. March out the course, stopping at each cone. Don't deviate or allow the dog to go anywhere but inline with your course.
Treat after each successful course. Don't reward any bad behavior, even accidentally.
Repeat for 2 more weekends, allowing more slack for each completed course. By the 3rd weekend you should be able to take off the leash and complete the course just the same and take walks in your neighborhood as well.

Not that specifically, but I have very similar ones. Pulling a trigger, and it goes all the way back to the grip and the sear never trips. Twisting a doorknob, but it's always just about to unlatch and never does. Whatever the monster of the night happens to be is always slow enough that it feels like a half hour or so of existential terror trying to fight or fly from it, which is thoughtful on its part at least. I've had that one. Except the reason I can't move my foot to the brake is because... I'm sitting in the back seat. No one else in the car, just me, rolling down the road, sitting in the back seat.
I've had another one where I am driving a car remotely from another car. Except somehow the car I'm controlling gets too far ahead and I can't see it anymore. I usually wake up with this feeling of dread wondering if I caused some major accident.

But then, that's exactly the sort of thing my brain would throw together in that state, given what I know of him and where he grew up. So I don't put any more stock in it than I do any other dream.

One time it was actually a job assignment I had at work. Only in my dream, it was the job assignment complicated by a factor of 100.
I've probably had that dream 5-6 times over the past 8 years I've worked at my current job. The last couple times, I've been lucky enough to realize somewhere in the dream that 'hey, I don't have to solve this... I'm dreaming! I can just wake up!' And I do. And it turns out it's about 5 minutes before my alarm goes off.
Of course with those dreams, I wake up feeling stressed out, like I haven't been sleeping at all. Hate those dreams...

I had a Sheltie that was the same way. I would chain her to my mountain bike and ride hill-and-vale with him. Two hours later, he was chasing a tennis ball like a fucking shortstop.
The important part is the phases. One-through-ten. Never let the dog out if it is excited, unless it is chained to a bicycle to run out its energy.
The "phases" are whining, panting, circling, pacing etc. Most of us have seen it. You need to get the dog back to a Two or Three on the scale.
If you add weight to the dog's back (doggie backpack) with water or weights, you can diminish energy much more quickly.
The dog must be calm at every phase of the walk. This begins pre-walk. If your dog is excited before the walk, you've got little chance at being The Master of Your Domain.
If your dog is just going to be a "Natural Puller", like Huskies, then get a bicycle and let it do the work.

What's your walking pace, and when would your dogs naturally move at that pace if offleash? I'm not saying they shouldn't learn to walk slowly with you, but most dogs natural pace is run/trot until they get tired (or old). Give them some time closer to the natural pace, and the times at the slower walking pace will be easier.

Definitely. Even more likely when one moves on to think about something else, when suddenly the solution becomes apparent.
In grad school, a friend once asked me to hear him out on a problem he was having with an electron paramagnetic resonance results.
Sure, I said. He started in, then the solution suddenly hit him, he thanked me, and scampered off.
I never found out what the problem was.

I think that are probably lots of them, mostly because the productions of the covers were more engaged. Sometimes, the singer was just a better singer.
By way of example, Townes Van Zandt's version of Pancho and Lefty is fine, but Emmylou's is superior. Never cared for that other guy's version, but it got so much airplay that people came to like it a lot.

It's amazing how often that clarifies the problem, and thence the solution. All too often the difficulty lies in failing to appreciate exactly what the problem is.

Bing has ruined the bing game that I used to play with alex most days.
The bing game was look at the picture and try to figure out what and where it was. Every now and then I'd come up with a tremendous flash of intuition and I'd be awarded a pellet.
For the last week or so Bing has had text in the bottom right telling you what the picture is, which completely ruins the bing game.

I still don't get it, to be honest. My sister had a baby and half the commenters here were adamant that I had to sniff his head. It was warm and fuzzy and not unpleasant, but it didn't smell like anything at all.

What I'm keying in on is clothing. GIs are wearing their field jackets. Man on the street, walking away from camera, wearing his full winter overcoat.
From this, and from the architecture, I'm guessing Italy. Some time in winter, or early spring, 44/45. Of course, could also be Belgium, same time period.
That the GIs would be putting out a US flag like that also tells me - not Germany. More likely a liberated country (not that Germany was *not* also liberated, you know what I mean).

I don't think there was a lot of fighting in northeast France - I thought the krauts withdrew as Patton raced up to the Rhine.
Maybe Alsace? That area saw some fighting very late, during/just after the Battle of the Bulge.
Anyway, I hope others chime in here.

And remember that most of the western Allied command thought - or let themselves fall into the mindset - that the war would be over before Christmas. This was one of the reasons the Ardennes offensive was possible - feeling that Fritz was done.
And who knows what might have been possible with a narrow/single front (Patton's fast juggernaut) vs. a "broad front", and minus the Market Garden debacle.
Of course it had been almost 4 years to the day since the big fight on the ground - the one that accounted for up to 80% of German casualties - had started.

Reading VDH's "Second World Wars" now, yesterday he wrote that French civilian casualties from Allied actions D-Day and after killed more French than had been killed by German occupation, and almost as many French deported and murdered as part of the Endlosung. Speaking of "bombing the shit out of".
Have to think some of the worst of that was in Normandy - there were not a lot of prolonged or intense battles after the break-out. Yet from what I read and am told by people who've visited, the locals there had/have a very smart and steely-eyed appreciation of reality: that all that sorrow was the unavoidable cost of being rid of le Bosche.

Paradoxically one of the best vacations I've done was to what, on paper, was one of the poorest countries in the world - Eritrea. This was mid 90s.
The capital, Asmara, as those who knew it told me, resembled a small Italian city of the 1920s or 30s. Spotlessly clean, well ordered, polite (like all of Eritrea). Espresso from vintage brass espresso machines, 5 cents. Wonderful Italian-style cookies to go with it, also 5 cents.
At dusk, after dinner hour, families would stroll down the main avenue, teenage girls dressed up in dresses that reminded me of the kind the girls wore to junior high graduation in my yute. People were tall, slim, beautiful.
None of which helps me identify the time and place of that great photo.

88 was very versatile, they say. Now, if you used it as a howitzer, would the terminal speed still be significantly higher that the "competition," as it was when used as an anti-tank gun? I think terminal speed would be a factor.

I've heard that they actually learned about its effectiveness earlier on in the Spanish Civil War. Of course, the Soviet tanks present in Spain (and I believe the Soviet "volunteers" brought some along) would have still been vulnerable to the 3.7cm guns, unlike the Matildas and Char B1s in France.

There's some truth to that, though it's a design problem instead of a lack of gunner imagination. One of the big problems with using anti-aircraft guns against ground targets is the general lack of "vertical depression" of the gun. They were originally designed to shoot things up high in the sky, and not stuff at ground level. It's something that you run into in games like "World of Tanks", when you take your tank up to the top of a ridge where you've got a great line of sight onto the enemy vehicles crossing below you... and then realize that your gun won't depress far enough to let you shoot at them...
(usually a problem on the more experimental designs; and vehicles pretty much *never* have the opposite problem)

Given the situation, both groups were likely quite safe. The Katy crews were safe behind enemy lines. And US bombers that weren't flying far behind Nazi lines probably didn't have to worry about enemy fighters.
Of course, to the best of my knowledge, even a massive barrage of Katyushas won't flip tanks. Panzer Lehr Division learned the hard way that carpet bombing *was* quite capable of causing that to happen.

Artillery guns at different locations use a set of calculations so that even their shells all arrive at the target location at the same time. When shells arrive in a staggered fashion, the targeted troops will get into cover when the first shells start landing. By the time the shells from the later guns start arriving, the troops are already in cover and take fewer casualties. Thing is, I was "privileged" to travel all over Azerbaijan - even the part wrested away by Armenia - and I don't recall ever seeing beef cattle. While sheep and chickens were omnipresent (not in Baku or Gyandzha, the two bigger cities, of course). Also don't recall beef ever being "what's for dinner", to recall the great cattleman's assoc. The damned numeric codes are misleading as hell, for one thing. And then, a doctor ordering a single test just to make sure of something will leave a years-long trail of automated follow-up messages. Add to that the "AI" profiling that your insurer uses to send you nag-a-matic messages about what you'd better be doing to insure your future good health? Enough to drive a sane person right the hell over the edge.
Example? Several years ago I had a bad month, some kind of lingering chest cold with lung involvement. Of course you can't just pop in and see the doctor, so I laid around for close to a month, drinking a lot of fruit juices and dosing myself with a popular cough suppresant. And when I got in to see her, she decided that would be a good time for a blood sugar test. I have since found out that certain cough syrups will really pop a high reading. Yeah, she didn't know that either.
So it took me two years of diet, daily testing, and follow-up to convince her that I was not "pre-diabetic." We can giggle about it a little now. My insurer, though, supplied only with all those spot sugar tests from years ago, and not seeing "Diagnosis Disproved" in my OGOD digital file, has me pegged. I will be getting junk diabetes warnings from them for the rest of my life.
Now blow this accuracy and efficiency out to the whole population, and all the sources of health information and funding? We are just plain f*cked.

what's pissing me off is dishonest/lazy entries, sub-standard care, and generalized bullshit, to keep from writing an epic rant.
the charting of my "care" is just fing wrong, and, it would appear, either they changed their protocols, or staffers lied to me during said procedures.

Fall, 2016: got scoped, they gave me, according to the charts, 5mg midazolam and 125mcg of fentanyl. i was awake before they were done. walked the F out right after: F your "recovery" bitches: i'm s*ber. drove myself home too.
this Spring, they said they were going to give me MOAR than usual, since i was "agitated".
charts say they gave me 4mg midazolam, and 100 mcg of fentanyl. i was AWAKE for the whole FING thing. (less than i got last time too, assuming i got anything at all)
then they were all in a tizzy because i was pissed off in recovery when they told me i had to wait to "recover".
from WHAT? you bitches never even gave me a buzz, let alone knocked me out. i remember the whole Fing thing, and was talking to them the whole time.
they also left out of their narrative where i demanded the AMA form, and they also claimed they gave me a old school BP cuff check, when they couldn't even find one, and i has a witness.
they even checked off "dressing intact". what's that, my bellybutton, you hacks?
i need to pull pitch and go contemplate something else for a bit.

my experiences with JC have been that, as the decades have gone by, they are more about making money and preserving their band than they are about actually improving patient care, at least in *specific* instances... YMMV.
they want you to have to pay for return visits, and submitting reports (and hiring consultants) but i've never seen actual improvements come from a Type 1, unless the improvement was you getting hired to address it.
basic changes they mandate can, and often are, good ideas, but the inertia of trying to get people to make them is frustrating to deal with.

This "beer" is just a Michelob Ultra clone, from the thin tall can to the feel and taste, and that is not a good thing. Pours an ultra clear yellow. The head quickly dissipated to nothing. No lacing. Almost no smell. Just extremely faint corn. Very watery and almost no taste. Even the lime I squeezed in later was lost in this watery mess. If you like water, this is the beer for you, because this is basically what it is. Donald Trump needs to make America great again by sending this back To Mexico and then building the wall so it doesn't come back.

I just got back from attending a ceremony honoring US independence in Pristina, Kosovo, hosted by an organization called "Friends of the USA". Maybe the rest of Europe's (and the world's) memory of what the US has done for freedom is fading, but in Kosovo, the memories are fresh, strong, and the people are very grateful.
Their Security Forces personnel were in dress uniform, and took down the old US flag (flown next to the giant statue of Bill Clinton) and replaced it with a new one in a very dignified little ceremony.

Apparently on Monday the GOP led Senate "Intelligence Committee"
officially released a report it had announced in May that says the
Russian meddled in election and that they had a clear preference for
candidate Trump.
I read the report, there is ZERO supporting evidence in the report for that declaration. ZERO!!!!
We truly have no oppositional political parties, we have the uniparty.
The scary part is after Trump there is no one to pick up the mantle, in fact after he's gone, the Uniparty will work tirelessly to undo all that he has done.

The lack of any action against Awan should show you where Sessions's priorities are and they are not against moving against the faves of the Uniparty. I'm sure Sundance had lots of donks going down over the Awan matter and not one fucking thing has happened.
The Awan thing yesterday was a real eye opener for me on the content of Jeff Sessions's character and he came up just as short as the rest of the GOP.
