It feels that lately I can't go 2 hours without someone texting me or calling me. Convenience of living in the smart phone era I suppose. While I am grateful that people want to talk to me, I also need my alone time. People can also be very sensitive if you don't call or text them back right away and I'm not the best and being diplomatic.
Sometimes I just don't feel like talking on the phone at all.
What's the best way to explain to friends that I don't feel like being on the phone or that I won't be responding to texts all the time without them taking it personally? Usually when I say anything, it comes out the wrong way.

There are auto-responders for android phones. I've got one that activates when it shakes hands with my car's bluetooth and will respond to any text with "I'm driving and will contact you later." Maryland has two types of "restraining orders". One is a "protective order" and requires the stalked victim be related, have had a sexual relationship, or be a minor.

Frankly, one wouldn't even have to "transport" the casks by sea... just set up a surplus freighter at anchor as a "Rack House".

A sight to see just offshore of the Galveston Jetty, is sometimes more than fifty or sixty major ships at anchor, lined up out to and across the horizon, all awaiting their turn to power up and cruise into the various ports and refinery docks between Galveston and all the way up the Houston Ship Channel.

Indians take super good care of their homes and where they live, they just seemed to utterly lose that attitude outside their property. Like it didn't matter what happened elsewhere, so trash and feces and worse were just everywhere. Its good to see them changing the culture, because India could really be a great place with some changes.

After independence, India took the "f**k the wicked West" and tried to go all "traditional" while playing footsies with the Soviets (which is why Pakistan was a long-time U.S. ally).
They suffered for it and didn't start turning around until the '90's when they started emulating the West again.
Just imagine where they'd have been if they had eschewed "decolonization" and embraced all the benefits of the Raj while still striking out on their own unique path.

Well, that may be in India but my H1bs don't know how to use an American restroom. It's a pig sty shortly after the beginning of the day. No flushes, all kinds of things in the urinals and they damn near bathe in the sinks. Not to mention spitting and blowing lugies into them. The housekeeping staff hates them.
The men's rooms are only slightly better.

I worked with a Bengali speaking scientist who, even though he knew the language, refused to speak Hindi with other scientists and insisted on using English as a true neutral language.
The only reason that India (sans Pakistan and Bengladesh due to religious reasons) can exist as one country is because the English traditions, language, and influence of the Raj serve to unite them in an otherwise unattainable equality.

Yeah I loved the ships in general, but especially those little fighters. The maneuver drives out on the end of those pylons made perfect sense and worked exactly right. They got an awful lot right with that show.

Normally they show up easily on search (predictive search, even) by their name.

So much of the sf written in those years was post-apocalyptic.I think that's why I quit reading sf for a long time -- it was just so damn depressing. IIRC, A Canticle For Leibowitz was what pushed me over the edge. Living in South Jersey, midway between D.C. and N.Y.C., with the Philadelphia boat yard ten minutes away was depressing enough without constantly reading about the aftermath.

Amazon showed the Brit series Electric Dreams, Phillip K. Dick stories, which was hit and miss. The good ones were good and the bad ones were "WTF?"
Reminded me a lot of the Canuck remakes of The Outer Limits which were all pretty good, especially the one with Beau Bridges called The Sand Kings.

Tires, these days, are deliberately made to be slightly conductive. Used to be, vehicles could build up a pretty good static charge, just rolling down the road. I remember seeing toll booths with wire wands sticking up out of the pavement, so that toll collectors would not get shocks.

I was just reading about that. It seems that some of the newer compounds they started using weren't as conductive as the old ones, so they've been added these special "threads" to increase conductance somewhat.
Static with fueling is always a concern. Remember the dangers of those plastic bed liners letting static build and getting a spark when putting fuel in cans in the back of trucks?

That reminds of me of working on very HV transmission lines. You know 750kV big boys and that class.
One method is via helicopter. You drop a little work platform down to the line and work it hot. Now here, rather than grounding, you "hot" it. You want to get the helicopter and work platform to the same potential as the hot phase.
And it's quite tricky. They slowly approach the phase with a little "wand". This will draw a slight arc, and make sure it directs that first arc to the wand. Note this is just charging current. But it would be enough to kill a man.
Now, they draw an arc, then touch the wand to the phase and hold it. They then attach a clamp to the platform, holding it equipotential with the phase.
There are other approaches, but the above is the safest and easiest.

George Roby Dempster was mayor and city manager of Knoxville, an irascible old-fashioned Democrat, and partner with his brothers in a railroad construction company. He invented the "Dempster-Dumpster."

That's a wispy low current arc. A high current arc, well, that would saturate the light sensors in the camera. :-)

Mine are bonded together with a braided copper cable about 3/8" in diameter. It's not solid, more like the old "chinese finger trap", a braided tube. Still would pass 500 amps easily enough. And a ground rod at each end of the building.
So, not a trivial installation. I paid a pro to do it. Mainly because I don't like clambering about on steep-pitched roofs.

They were on the floor below the shooting, one cop and a trainee. They were cautious, and knew they were close. As soon, as they had a location they moved to it - but hit the barricade. Not Parkland.
