Oh: FBI Lawyer Who Texted "Viva La Resistance" Just Happened to Conduct Interview of George Papadopolous

Before getting to the new news, let's review what we know about "FBI Attorney 2" and "Agent 5."

A House Republican Tuesday unmasked two of the five FBI investigators cited in the recently released inspector general’s report for expressing anti-Trump and pro-Clinton sentiment in work-related instant messages.

The previously unnamed FBI officials -- "FBI Attorney 2" and "Agent 5" -- are Kevin Clinesmith and Sally Moyer, respectively, according to House Oversight Committee member Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), who revealed their identities over the objection of the FBI during a hearing on the IG's findings.

The two were assigned to the bureau's Hillary Clinton email investigation, according to the IG's report, while Clinesmith also later worked as a top lawyer on the Trump-Russia investigation and the special-counsel probe.

...

Horowitz testified that the FBI was withholding the names of the other rogue agents from Congress and the public because "they work on counterintelligence" and can't be exposed.

But Meadows argued that both Clinesmith and Moyer work for the FBI's office of legal counsel, and are no longer in "counterintelligence," as the FBI claimed.

"They don’t work in counterintelligence," Meadows said in an exchange with Horowitz. "If that's the reason the FBI is giving, they're giving you false information, because they work for the general counsel."

Wait, wait, wait -- let me get this straight: The FBI is lying again?

I can't believe that.

Horowitz confirmed the two worked in that office, which was headed by Trisha Anderson, who also recently resigned. Anderson also worked closely with Strzok and was married to a top Obama White House official. FEC records show she gave political contributions to Obama.

Moyer, in an Oct. 28, 2016, instant message, said she was "sick" of Trump and later called his supporters "retarded." On Election Day, she said Clinton had “better win... otherwise i'm gonna be walking around with both my guns...and like quitting on the spot,” adding, “screw you trump.”

...

Meanwhile, Clinesmith lamented Clinton's loss the day after the election, messaging to several FBI employees, "I am numb." He added, "I am so stressed about what I could have done differently."

Clinesmith also expressed regret over the reopening of the Clinton email case on Oct. 28, 2016, arguing that it "broke the momentum" of Clinton’s campaign. He warned at the time that the belated move, which was pressured by leaks over the discovery of additional classified emails on the laptop of Clinton’s aide in New York, could initiate "the destruction of the republic."

After Clinesmith messaged another FBI employee that he was "just devastated" over Trump's unexpected victory, he launched into a rant: "I just can't imagine the systematic disassembly of the progress we made over the last 8 years. ACA is gone. Who knows if the rhetoric about deporting people, walls, and crap is true. I honestly feel like there is going to be a lot more gun issues, too, the crazies won finally. This is the tea party on steroids. And the GOP is going to be lost, they have to deal with an incumbent in 4 years. We have to fight this again. Also Pence is stupid."

Weeks later, the Russiagate investigator added, "Viva le resistance," signaling he planned to fight back against Trump.

So, if you wanted to make sure the George Papadopolous interview came out "right" -- like the Hillary Email investigation was rigged to come out "right" -- who would you turn to?

Mr. Viva Le Resistance, of course.

An FBI attorney who sent anti-Trump text messages -- including one calling for "resistance" against Trump -- took part in at least one interview last year with George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign adviser who has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, was part of the FBI team that interviewed Papadopoulos on Feb. 16, 2017, a source familiar with the interview tells TheDCNF.

...

While Meadows, a close President Donald Trump ally, did not explicitly say that Clinesmith was FBI Attorney 2, The Daily Mail reported that he was.

Recall that Mark Meadows made another surprising claim during his questioning of IG Horowitz -- that there was "growing evidence" that FBI Interview Form 302s had been "edited and changed."

"I think the other thing that I would ask you to look into, there is growing evidence that 302s were edited and changed," Meadows said. "Those 302s, it is suggested that they were changed to either prosecute or not prosecute individuals. And that is very troubling."

I'm pretty sure this is Trump's fault.

You all did nothing, and people's lives were ruined! Enjoy that tarnished badge, because your credibility is forever lost.

29 We're gonna need another special counsel ... to fabricate some more crimes against Trump people, and to cover up those additional crimes by the FBI mafia. Mueller can't cover up the whole conspiracy by himself, no matter how many mob lawyers her hires.

It's nice to be king, but it seems even nicer to be the king in the shadows, so no one knows you are king. Shadow government, deep state, those Soviets infiltrated and now everyone has infiltrated ... the damn Brits, the Russkies, Muslim Brotherhood, even little Pakistan has Awan in the middle of all our intel.

Only the investigators seem unable to get a copy of Hillary's dirty emails.

30 A lot of people are insisting that the entire FBI is compromised, should be dissolved, etc.

It may sound off coming from an extremist like me, but I've moved into wait and see mode. The same guy texting Vive La Resistance is the same one who ran an interview? No doubt without taping it?

It's becoming clearer that the conspiracy within the FBI was actually very small, but relied on very powerful people. It may be possible to salvage the rest of the organization, and such is probably the President's goal. Either way: I'm gonna calm down and let this thing play out. I don't think President Trump is done by a damned sight, and unlike the hapless Mueller he's preparing a very strong case.

I mean, aren't thousands of defense attorneys right now putting together a case saying that if they lied in one case, how can you ever trust them?

I mean, isn't that the point of not recording interviews? If you record, then there is a record, if you do not, then you *have* to trust the reports. It seems they will get to start with a clean slate after this, and after they toss out a lot of convictions and potential convictions and start recording interviews....

157 Yeah, corruption is not something you fix by replacing a few people. Corruption is inherent in the system.

I actually studied this a bit for management - organizations take their culture from their leaders, and when a culture is bad it takes a lot of trauma to change it.

It is never the case where a "small group in powerful positions" are corrupt and replacing them solves your problems. Some management types say that you have to shitcan 10, 20, 30% to make a change. Some say you reorganize and do offsites and team building and lots of training, and then you can get away with a lower number, but I am not convinced that they have any examples where that worked.

A good example is the NUMMI plant in CA. They essentially fired everyone and rehired the ones they wanted under a new system, and things worked out great. I think they rehires were something like 70% of staff, but even still they were traumatized and understood that things were different this time. Then GM tried to export what they had learned to other plants and found out that it didn't work since they could not fire everyone like they did an NUMMI.

No, you would need to dissolve the FBI and start over, but only hire back at most 50%. But I would also move it to a new city - maybe in Nebraska.

"ACA will be gone" - like most people, he is totally unaffected by it, and unaware that is a farcical failure in its own terms, and inflicted more financial harm on more people (high teens of millions) than all the "uncovered" medical expenses since insurance has even existed.

"deportation, walls" - yes, idiot, deportation the only sanction/action available in cases of unlawful entry or presence in this (or any) country - duh. A border barrier! Oh noes! It's like this guy is 12 years old or something.

"gun issues" - WTF? ALL "gun issues" are caused by the state/law enforcement, which harasses the best citizens of the country while enabling mass shooter crazies and criminals.

Posted by: Don Q at June 25, 2018 07:26 PM (NgKpN)

I'm really not being facetious here: what, exactly, do you want to happen?

1) What should a field agent have been aware of and reported? That Strozk and Page were meeting with the Deputy Director? That forces in the FBI were investigating the President? I can't access my boss's texts. Can you?

2) Even if they get smoking gun proof that an agent's bias makes their personal testimony unreliable- proof offered throughout the IG report- who were they going to report it to? Obama gutted and ignored the IG, Congress and "conservative" media were at best worthless and at worst in on the con. Who do you trust enough to guarantee losing your job?

I am not unsympathetic to your views: if anything, every single agent who participated needs to face jail time. Especially former Obummer officials, including Hillary.

I don't expect Obama to do time himself, but if he does I won't be very sad.

Yes, but the DNA, and other scandals such as the hair analysis one, etc. are fixable -- It just means you have to retest, and retry. A lot of cases were tossed, and it was expensive and many bad guys went free, but I see this as much much worse since it is uncontained and affects every interview, and interviews can not be recreated. Then there is the whole probably cause issue. To me, I think the FBI would have trouble prosecuting a parking ticket once the dust settles.

First, it's a humiliating take down of a very prideful member of the Dem leadership, and you know he's bursting to respond, BUT he doesn't dare because Warner realizes (now that he's sober) what an idiotic remark that was and how much trouble it could cause for him. In her way, she said a ton. She helped shut down the FBI's illegal spying and wrote a scathing report about the abuse that had been going at the FISA court for years until it was caught by Admiral Rogers. That ruling was released by DNI Coats last year which was very unusual but no worries, almost nobody read it.

Nunes asked her to give him her copy of the FISA application along with court transcripts of the pleading but she told him the proper part was the DOJ but she would be watching and would reconsider acting if necessary.

She seemed beyond mildly irritated and that was before Contreras was recused and his conflicts were made public.

Posted by: JackStraw at June 25, 2018 07:53 PM (/tuJf)

236 Nunes had (another) 5PM EDT deadline for something, today. Missed?

My puzzlement grows about why Trump doesn't instruct DOJ/FBI to stop with the drama and delays - no more "deadlines" or showdowns or subpoena theater. It's ridiculous. It's not an order to instantly comply with all requests - it's an order to do things the normal way - the phone, meetings, etc.

One small hypothetical example serves to illustrate the whole concept. Nunes wants Document A; Rosie thinks it needs to stay secret because it's involved in a grand jury matter. Solution: Rosie calls Nunes, and meets him (the day after his request) to discuss. Nunes does not want to derail criminal proceedings against any of the perps - on the contrary.

This is exactly how these things normally work, there's no drama or b.s., and I've been on both sides of such things - nobody would ever think of the ridiculous confrontations we've been seeing. Trump can order that unresolvable Yuuuuge disputes be settled with him in the room, if they can't be worked out.

261 A story on Drudge says Trump aides are hearing suggestions they should arm themselves. Good advice.

Honest question that probably sounds snarky, what the hell are you going to do if you're surrounded by jeering leftists?

You can't actually draw and shoot unless you're in grave danger. For some reason, US courts don't seem to think being surrounded by screaming people who claim to be "protesting" meets that standard.

If you actually spot some idiot with a gun, and manage to shoot said idiot, the rest will scatter and you'll have good proof you were in grave danger. But that's unlikely to happen in your favor.

More likely would be you spot an idiot with a weapon coming at you, you take a shot, miss, and they scatter. Now it's your word against 30 people, most of whom are willing to lie about anyone having a weapon, except you.

Oh, and that shot you took that missed the idiot with the weapon, it hit a 30 year old female doctoral student (in marxian studies). The papers will now crucify you for wildly shooting at Latinx phd candidate lesbians who were just being a bit rude.

284 Comment on Wray misinterpreted.

Trump expressing confidence - vs. being appalled and replacing the guy with someone with a smidgen of situational awareness about being steward of a burning, sinking ship (FBI reputation for integrity) - is what I'm talking about. Just based on what is known publicly, Wray is a disaster - wrong guy for this job at this point in history. Not talking about Trump's confidence in his own future, cause, or prospects.

The day a nearly unbelievable IG report is issued - and one that itself was shockingly cowardly and disingenuous in a way that lessened the scandalous import of the clumsy, open, arrogant, politicized lawlessness at the top of the FBI - Wray (almost with a smirk) brags about his agency's retention rate and intern program. One of, if not the, worst thing I've seen from any govt. official, evuh. And that's saying something.

Occam's razor. Despite what the media or Congress says there are specific cases when the DOJ does not automatically turn over documents, when they are involved in grand jury testimony or part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Congress is well aware of this too by the way.

My
puzzlement grows about why Trump doesn't instruct DOJ/FBI to stop with
the drama and delays - no more "deadlines" or showdowns or subpoena
theater. It's ridiculous. It's not an order to instantly comply with all
requests - it's an order to do things the normal way - the phone,
meetings, etc.

============

Simple. Trump is a Jedi zenmaster, He has the Left - Dems - Press slamming into each other with their stupidity. The Left is out of control and continue to swing and miss.
Trump, the zenmaster he is, simply will not stand in the way of them making fools out of themselves.

Brilliance is once again in full display.

Agreed. There is plenty of stuff going on that has no connection to the Trump's 2016 campaign, but Jeff Sessions is pretty much MIA. Most of his public pronouncements have been supportive of his underlings at the DoJ even though it is obvious that there are serious problems. He couldn't even rouse himself to criticize FBI employees trading information to reporters for drinks, tickets to sporting events, etc.

I think he is a prissy little man overly concerned about following "normal" procedures that does not recognize that he is in the middle of a fkn emergency.

It's no more false than the constant framing of the DOJ hiding information when there are actually valid, legal reasons that hardly ever get mentioned. Why would Trump allow a document that could benefit him if released to not be released after months of constant public demands and threats?

The framing has been all wrong, it should be what is the good reason Trump has for not forcing these documents to be released when he is the one person on the planet with the power to do so at any time? He either has a good reason or he's made an enormous mistake. My money is on him having a very good reason.

Right now, the situation is, I believe as explosive as before the American Revolution or the Civil War. I am seeing similar rhetoric that occurred before both of those events. Add a unforeseen crisis to the mix, and something bad might just happen.
