Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Womp, Womp: Despite Twitter Rage from Progressives and Their Allies the Terminally Outraged Never Trump Liberal Republicans, It Turns Out the Child with Downs Syndrome was Rescued from Criminal TraffickersSo you mean the 12 hour freak-out over Corey Lewandowski expressing skepticism over a Democrat Talking Point Machine's half-remembered (and apparently false) anecdote was just another case of butthurt people raging over the results of an election now more than 18 months in the past?
Seeing the usual mix of online reaction to this today between "fake news/he was misunderstood/he was taken out of context" and "hell yeah!" Plus a new one: "The little girl mentioned in the clip wasn’t separated under Trump’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy" Right, but Corey didn’t know that, did he? His intent is clear.I read his intent as scoffing at a typical attack on the concept of border enforcement via a sketchy human-shield tug-the-heartstrings anecdote by a Democrat Party talking points machine. How do you read it, Allah? Oh yes: That he hates children with Downs Syndrome. Because Cult of Trump or something. Incidentally, given any large population -- and I'd say years and years of people flooding across the border with children who are sometimes not their own, just Loaner Children to cross the border with, because they know the previous policy was to largely let such illegal migrants into the country so long as they were accompanied by an Underaged Pawn-- I'd expect that there would occasionally be a child with Downs Syndrome, as well as children with epilepsy, children with palsy, mentally retarded children, blind children, children missing a limb, etc. The law of large numbers tells you it's guaranteed you'll have all sorts of Heartbreaking Tales given the millions streaming across our borders. Does this mean we should go back to catch-and-release? I guess according to our Super-Conservative Truth Warriors, as well as (coincidentally enough!) the Democratic Media Complex they take as unimpeachable sources of information, that's exactly what it means. None of this pull-the-heartstring human-shield stuff changes the fact that Obama incentivized illegal immigrants to bring a kid (not necessarily their own) with them to get on the catch-and-release gravy train, an incentive that must be ended. Apparently these children are hardy enough for a dangerous migration from central America and trekking across inhospitable deserts, but can't possibly survive a month of separation from their parents (or... travelling companions) while the latter are prosecuted. Allah says he doesn't even know why people vote for any party any longer: So. On the one hand we have the party of baby jails. And on the other we have the party of open borders, of abortion up to the moment of crowning, of campus mobs and "anti"-fascists... I don't know why anyone votes in American elections anymore.Well good. That's moving another step closer to abandoning the impolite fiction that the NeverTrumpers are anything other than Democrat-leaning independents. Speaking of which, Allah has some company in his own migration: His fellow super True Conservative, MSNBC fixture Steve Schmidt, had dramatically announced (or re-announced, who knows) that he's not a Republican any longer.

Here's a scenario to consider - a kid with physical or mental problems in shitholia is given to some non-relative coming to the US so they can get in.
This generates a Win/Win/Win Win - the non-relative gets into the US. Win/Win - assuming the parents cared about little Esteban, the kid will probably get an opportunity for a better life. If the parents really just wanted to get rid of little Esteban because he was defective - win, because now he's gone and they didn't have to do any dirty work. Oh, but I'm sure that would NEVER happen. Posted by: Damnedyankee at June 20, 2018 02:49 PM (37IEG) 46
ace this is the subject of my last willowed comment below.
Not the Down's kid particular case - but the failure by the administration to counter-attack with facts, aggressively, and get rough in doing so. But facts and reality may not even suffice. Every weak sister (all of them) of the "thinking" "conservative" tendency I come across is barfing up idiocy about family separation being "cruel" and "callous" (see Harsanyi, for example). WTFF? Really? There are close to 2M American kids currently separated from their parents by the legal system and incarceration. Most of them FOR YEARS. There are under 2,000 ILLEGALLY PRESENT alien children TEMPORARILY separated from their parents, who spent big $$$ and went to tremendous efforts to commit crimes. Anybody who considers family separation "cruel" or "callous" has no place in a discussion of any serious topic relating to the actual welfare of children - which depends on rule of law and order. Except -- US voters are now so cynical and so aware of meme-manipulation that it hasn't worked at all. In fact, it has backfired. I don't remember it being THIS bad in times past, but that may have been my naivete. But I assume that they've done it since forever. Remember NBC's expose of the exploding gas tanks? The one where they rigged to explode? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dateline_NBC Also recall the notorious Dan Rather's behavior on being caught making up shit: he was indignant, and tried to brazen it out ("unimpeachable source" - snort). Why did he do that? Because, I suspect, that he and his colleagues had successfully weathered similar close calls in the past, and he hadn't realized that times had changed. They honed their skills by HIDING actual narratives during the Obama years, and creating false narratives about opposition forces (super-scawwy white pride at Tea Party events!). Also, creating false positive narratives about the Obamas themselves (he's so dreamy! her arms are toned and she oozes beauty and grace!). Posted by: reason at June 20, 2018 02:55 PM (W2YA6) 95

WTFF?
Posted by: rhomboid at June 20, 2018 02:49 PM (QDnY+) One of the temporary shelters for kids( the super nice dorm type ones) said this week the average stay for a juvenile in their facility is 49 days. The kids end up being reunited with parents or are sent to foster parents or relatives already in the USA. Posted by: Jen the original at June 20, 2018 02:55 PM (OdLH1) 100

Surrendering to the Left never works. I thought Trump knew that. Must be Melania leaning on him. I can't believe he's going to be this stupid and look this weak after last week's win. It's a shame and most of the blame belongs on the gutless cowards of the GOP. They're one step away from destroying their party, the country and if Trump goes along with them; himself. I have no more f**ks to give. No more benefits of doubt. No more we'll try again laters. None. One false move and I'm out. And I'm not the only one saying this. As bad as it is today one could argue there was much more vitriol in the late 1800's-1900's but literacy rates were far lower.
Posted by: Brian in New Orleans at June 20, 2018 03:04 PM (UBzPO) The difference is that back then there were newspapers on both sides of any issue, and newspapers made no bones about their editorial slant (hence newspaper names such as the "American-Democrat"). So as slanted as the news might be by one paper, it'd be slanted the other way by another paper in the same city. Now the media comprise a monoculture, so that mechanism is no longer operative. I say no, he isn't. He just disagrees.
Posted by: platypus, gg channel at June 20, 2018 03:00 PM (mNJBC) I'm not even sure what it is I'm disagreeing with. I think it would be a mistake for Trump to sign an EO reuniting illegal families while they await asylum outcomes. For one it will only lead to every illegal claiming asylum (if they aren't already), overwhelming the system and making it impossible to adjudicate claims within 20 days. It took over two years to increase the number of immigration judges from around 350 to 500 so doubling that number will take several more years (non-starter). Fox News is reporting the EO will reunite those familes for an extended period of time in detention. If so that will violate both Federal Law and a court settlement (Flores), giving the Dems even more ammo if not another fake reason to impeach. An EO reuniting illegal families can have only one outcome in my opinion: releasing the families into the US after 20 days. That is the trap that has been set. Oh the world is full of people who want to nail one foot to the floor and set their hair on fire. It's fun! What will likely happen, if there is an EO - Trump will put forth an EO that encompasses most of the Cruz bill, which is a very good solution to the situation. The problem with an EO is that it may conflict with the results of Flores vs Reno. But, Trump is probably calculating that another fight with another Federal Judge will only help him, not hurt him. Is the Judge going to order all illegals released from custody? Do the Democrats really think that's a winning campaign issue for them? Everybody on all sides is just shooting from the hip, and nobody (except Trump, apparently) is gaming out where this is going 2 or 3 steps down. Fake news actually predates legitimate journalism. Here's what Trump's EO does:
Section 1. Amendment to Executive Order 13597. Executive Order 13597 of January 19, 2012 (Establishing Visa and Foreign Visitor Processing Goals and the Task Force on Travel and Competitiveness), is amended by deleting subsection (b)(ii) of section 2 of that order. Sec. 2. Updated Implementation Plan. The Secretaries of State and Homeland Security, in consultation with the heads of such executive departments and agencies as appropriate, shall revise the implementation plan described in section 2(b) of Executive Order 13597, as necessary and appropriate, consistent with the amendment described in section 1 of this order. Section 2(b)ii, Executive Order 13597 is from an Obama EO clause which states: (ii) ensure that 80 percent of nonimmigrant visa applicants are interviewed within 3 weeks of receipt of application, recognizing that resource and security considerations and the need to ensure provision of consular services to U.S. citizens may dictate specific exceptions; So what he did is erase the 3 week deadline for interview of applicants, and tell his administration to recommend a replacement clause. Brian - first, I think your concerns are valid, but they also can be answered. A lot of people are just waking up to how screwed up things have been for the last 10 years, and how totally broken the system is.
To take your points in turn: I'm not even sure what it is I'm disagreeing with. "Fox News is reporting the EO will reunite those familes for an extended period of time in detention. If so that will violate both Federal Law and a court settlement (Flores)" There are loopholes, and it is not as cut and dried as you think. Still, any long term solution depends on Congressional Legislation, which is why the Cruz bill is so important. An EO can only be a stopgap until legislation is passed. But the result of Flores vs Reno was a consent decree, rather than a judicial decision, which gives a few more options. "giving the Dems even more ammo if not another fake reason to impeach." No, the consent decree has enough loopholes in it to bock this possibility. An EO reuniting illegal families can have only one outcome in my opinion: releasing the families into the US after 20 days. That is the trap that has been set." No, the outcome is that this goes to a Federal Judge. But you realize that if a Federal Judge says that they all have to be released, that is a completely different political situation? And there are a multitude of ways it could play out after that. Also not true. It took that long because everyone involved was worried about selling the offices to pals and people they owed political favors to. So. On the one hand we have the party of baby jails. And on the other we have the party of open borders, of abortion up to the moment of crowning, of campus mobs and "anti"-fascists...
_____________________ We have a situation where we have tens of thousands of foreigners swarming illegally across our southern border every damn day and night, and a lot of them are coming across with minors, since the Obama administration put out the word that that was the easiest way to ensure that you'd get to stay in the U.S. So what was the Trump administration supposed to do? Just say "hey kid, we don't know if this guy you're with is your dad or if he's a smuggler or a rapist or a kiddie sex trafficker or a neighbor who bought you from your family, but we'll let you stay with him anyway, because the sound of you crying reminds us of Nazi concentration camps"? They had to separate the kids, at least for a while, to try and determine who the adults were. So of course some of the adults are actually the parents. And of course the kids will cry if they're separated from their parent by people they don't know. But you can hear that kind of crying in daycare centers across the U.S. every day. Does that mean we should leave the foreign kids with people who may be exploiting them? That makes no sense. And if the real parents are so concerned about their children, then why the hell are they deliberately exposing them to drug cartels and rattlesnakes and 100+ degree temperatures in the first place? Did they think they could sneak illegally into the U.S. and have Border Patrol take them and their kids to Disneyland? They knew damn well they were likely going to be separated from their kids if they were caught crossing the U.S. border illegally, and they did it anyway. But now we're the bad guys, for simply enforcing our own damn laws as we try to deal with the massive hordes of foreign asylum scammers and welfare cheats and identity thieves and other frauds who are illegally entering our country by the tens of thousands every day, and costing U.S. taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars every year. No, the outcome is that this goes to a Federal
Judge. But you realize that if a Federal Judge says that they all have to be released, that is a completely different political situation? And there are a multitude of ways it could play out after that. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 20, 2018 03:24 PM (k1TUh) Maybe that's the disconnect I'm having with the people here calling me names for predicting the reality of where this will lead. I do not care what the political outcome will be - this is not a game to me. Families will be reunited and then released after 20 days if their asylum claims cannot be adjudicated (which they cannot due to the number of claims). Someone will sue and a Federal Judge will order those families released. Posted by: Brian in New Orleans at June 20, 2018 03:33 PM (UBzPO) 354

There are tens of thousands of under-employed lawyers in this country (it's kind of like the Starship Enterprise when the Tribbles took over). So, many of those could be appointed as interim immigration judges. Bring in a bunch of temporary trailers as courtrooms, set them up along the border and turn those cases around in an average of about six and a half hours. Easy peasy.

Now, however, if they go back to the judge and ask to have the consent decree changed, that does put a different spin on things, doesn't it? For one thing, it removes Hawaiian Judge from the picture, at least until Flores Judge gets a crack at it. Posted by: filbert at June 20, 2018 03:44 PM (953wK) 443
So, some language of the EO.
(e) The Attorney General shall promptly file a request with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to modify the Settlement Agreement in Flores v. Sessions, CV 85-4544 ("Flores settlement"), in a manner that would permit the Secretary, under present resource constraints, to detain alien families together throughout the pendency of criminal proceedings for improper entry or any removal or other immigration proceedings. I suspect they'll get a big fat rejection from the Ninth Circuit. Sec. 4. Prioritization of Immigration Proceedings Involving Alien Families. The Attorney General shall, to the extent practicable, prioritize the adjudication of cases involving detained families. So Trump is saying we'll keep the family's together but I'm not releasing the family until the case is adjudicated. I'm sure the Lib's will have some new objection. They are traveling more than a couple hundred miles and they have no intention of trying to legally apply for asylum status.
_________________ A lot of them will try to get asylum in the U.S., because it's extremely lucrative. If the judge grants it, not only the applicant, but his entire family, gets asylum. And once they get asylum they are entitled to get SS cards and the full panoply of U.S. welfare benefits, including SSI income, TANF, WIC, housing assistance, Medicaid, prescription drug benefits, and on and on and on. It's thousands of dollars a month in "free" goodies, courtesy of U.S. taxpayers. And making the asylum claim has another benefit (even for the illegal aliens who don't plan to follow through and show up for the asylum hearing). Once the claim is made, the illegal is entitled to a hearing, and he/she/it gets released into the U.S. pending the hearing date, which is often set more than a year into the future. So just making the asylum claim guarantees the illegal that he/she/it will get a free pass to remain in the U.S. for a significant period of time, during which they can't legally be removed. That's why Trump needs to stop all this asylum scamming and announce that from this point on, no asylum claims will be considered by the U.S. unless such claims were properly filed in a U.S. embassy or consulate. No more waltzing across the border, or to a U.S. port of call, and claiming asylum, just so the foreigner can then be released into the U.S. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at June 20, 2018 03:48 PM (fqUgw) 468

Immigration law allows for claiming asylum once you've already made it to US soil. It was just understood that would be the first thing you did when you made it here and not written into the law.
Nobody is disputing that.. Although its not just 'soil' - Its a port of entry but why wouldnt they stop at one of the potentially NINE other locations along the way under less treacherous conditions ? I think we know the answer to this.. its because the intent all along is to simply disappear into the US and live here without any recognized legal status. Nope, Trump took away all of the ammo the dems had to rouse their base for November.
I could be wrong, but I suspect that someone in the Trump administration knew immigration was going to be the only thing the dems had to run on this fall and he intentionally made it a hot button issue long before the elections so it would fade away quick after he made it an issue. immigration ban from the mid-east. All it takes is one lawsuit and then a judge files the restraining order to stop it. Then a year or so passes and the Supreme Court rules. 455 If they keep the families together by friday the left will be complaining about the children being abused because their moms are human smugglers and the kids aren't theirs and they're renting the kids out to the Ms-13.
Then what. _______________________ The Washington Examiner had an article the other day about how there has been a big uptick lately in Honduran men coming across the border with kids that they claim are theirs, but the documents that they produce to "prove" that they're related are phony. If some reporter went down to Honduras, they could probably find some LaRaza type, Soros-funded group down there giving seminars to the locals on how to con the stupid gringos at the U.S. border. They're also probably the ones who are printing up the phony documents for the "parents." There is a mind-boggling amount of fraud and scamming going on in connection with this third-world "migration" to the U.S. If Trump really wants to get more Americans on his side on this issue, he needs to get somebody to compile some of the statistics on how much all this "migration" bullshit is costing U.S. taxpayers every year. Conservative estimates already put it at over $100 billion a year, but it's probably a lot more than that. Obama hid the numbers from the American public, for all the obvious reasons, but Trump can and should expose this massive theft that is going on right under our noses. I dunno. Don't want to cause lawlessness in Mexico. It would disturb the usual tranquility that reigns there.
When we first got married, my wife really wanted to vacation in Mexico. She didn't get why I strenuously objected. Sure, she said, there are dangerous parts, but if we just stick to the resort, we'll be fine. Then I showed her article after article about events that happened on resort grounds or on the major roads to and from the resorts. I showed her how to look up Dept of State employee travel restrictions near the resorts. Now anytime she talks about vacationing down there, she always adds the parenthetical, "but then I saw the news/travel restrictions and we just can't do it." It is the policy of this Administration to rigorously enforce our immigration laws. Under our laws, the only legal way for an alien to enter this country is at a designated port of entry at an appropriate time. When an alien enters or attempts to enter the country anywhere else, that alien has committed at least the crime of improper entry and is subject to a fine or imprisonment under section 1325(a) of title 8, United States Code.

They can request asylum, but they have no absolute right to have their request processed:
"The reason to avoid requesting asylum at the port of entry to the U.S. is that the inspections officers have the power to quickly find you inadmissible and deport you, in which case you will not be allowed to return for five years. This can happen if an inspector believes that you are making a misrepresentation (committing fraud), or misrepresented the truth when you got your visa, or if you do not have the proper travel or visa documents at the time you request entry. This quick deportation procedure is known as "summary exclusion." It can be applied to anyone except people entering the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (according to a 1999 decision by the Board of Immigration Appeals) Posted by: SSBN 656 (G) at June 20, 2018 04:20 PM (jjaLl) 660
