All along the border, foot traffick comes over from Mexico to shop. Often as families with oldsters coming along. Several times a year some of these oldsters with extreme Alzheimers or dementia are abandoned in grocery stores, Walmart, the side of the road to be picked up by the cops. No one claims them and they go to nursing homes paid for by taxpayers until they die. So nothing from south of the border surprises me.

One of the temporary shelters for kids( the super nice dorm type ones) said this week the average stay for a juvenile in their facility is 49 days. The kids end up being reunited with parents or are sent to foster parents or relatives already in the USA.

In recent times they basically did the same thing to Reagan but it was the newspapers. Air-time was limited so the nightly news on the three networks wasn't as hell bent.
As bad as it is today one could argue there was much more vitriol in the late 1800's-1900's but literacy rates were far lower.

The difference is that back then there were newspapers on both sides of any issue, and newspapers made no bones about their editorial slant (hence newspaper names such as the "American-Democrat"). So as slanted as the news might be by one paper, it'd be slanted the other way by another paper in the same city.
Now the media comprise a monoculture, so that mechanism is no longer operative.

I'm not even sure what it is I'm disagreeing with. I think it would be a mistake for Trump to sign an EO reuniting illegal families while they await asylum outcomes. For one it will only lead to every illegal claiming asylum (if they aren't already), overwhelming the system and making it impossible to adjudicate claims within 20 days. It took over two years to increase the number of immigration judges from around 350 to 500 so doubling that number will take several more years (non-starter).
Fox News is reporting the EO will reunite those familes for an extended period of time in detention. If so that will violate both Federal Law and a court settlement (Flores), giving the Dems even more ammo if not another fake reason to impeach. An EO reuniting illegal families can have only one outcome in my opinion: releasing the families into the US after 20 days. That is the trap that has been set.

What will likely happen, if there is an EO - Trump will put forth an EO that encompasses most of the Cruz bill, which is a very good solution to the situation. The problem with an EO is that it may conflict with the results of Flores vs Reno. But, Trump is probably calculating that another fight with another Federal Judge will only help him, not hurt him. Is the Judge going to order all illegals released from custody? Do the Democrats really think that's a winning campaign issue for them?
Everybody on all sides is just shooting from the hip, and nobody (except Trump, apparently) is gaming out where this is going 2 or 3 steps down.

Section 1. Amendment to Executive Order 13597. Executive Order 13597 of January 19, 2012 (Establishing Visa and Foreign Visitor Processing Goals and the Task Force on Travel and Competitiveness), is amended by deleting subsection (b)(ii) of section 2 of that order.
Sec. 2. Updated Implementation Plan. Section 2(b)ii, Executive Order 13597 is from an Obama EO clause which states:
(ii) ensure that 80 percent of nonimmigrant visa applicants are interviewed within 3 weeks of receipt of application, recognizing that resource and security considerations and the need to ensure provision of consular services to U.S. citizens may dictate specific exceptions;
So what he did is erase the 3 week deadline for interview of applicants, and tell his administration to recommend a replacement clause.

To take your points in turn:
I'm not even sure what it is I'm disagreeing with. I think it would be a mistake for Trump to sign an EO reuniting illegal families while they await asylum outcomes. For one it will only lead to every illegal claiming asylum (if they aren't already), overwhelming the system and making it impossible to adjudicate claims within 20 days. It took over two years to increase the number of immigration judges from around 350 to 500 so doubling that number will take several more years (non-starter).

There are loopholes, and it is not as cut and dried as you think. Still, any long term solution depends on Congressional Legislation, which is why the Cruz bill is so important. An EO can only be a stopgap until legislation is passed. But the result of Flores vs Reno was a consent decree, rather than a judicial decision, which gives a few more options.

Also not true. It took that long because everyone involved was worried about selling the offices to pals and people they owed political favors to. A motivated effort could double the number of Judges in less than a month, pending security checks and background clearances. There's no reason other than the usual political bribery going on that it should ever take any more time than that.

We have a situation where we have tens of thousands of foreigners swarming illegally across our southern border every damn day and night, and a lot of them are coming across with minors, since the Obama administration put out the word that that was the easiest way to ensure that you'd get to stay in the U.S.
So what was the Trump administration supposed to do? Just say "hey kid, we don't know if this guy you're with is your dad or if he's a smuggler or a rapist or a kiddie sex trafficker or a neighbor who bought you from your family, but we'll let you stay with him anyway, because the sound of you crying reminds us of Nazi concentration camps"?
They had to separate the kids, at least for a while, to try and determine who the adults were. So of course some of the adults are actually the parents. And of course the kids will cry if they're separated from their parent by people they don't know. But you can hear that kind of crying in daycare centers across the U.S. every day. Does that mean we should leave the foreign kids with people who may be exploiting them? That makes no sense.
And if the real parents are so concerned about their children, then why the hell are they deliberately exposing them to drug cartels and rattlesnakes and 100+ degree temperatures in the first place? Did they think they could sneak illegally into the U.S. and have Border Patrol take them and their kids to Disneyland? They knew damn well they were likely going to be separated from their kids if they were caught crossing the U.S. border illegally, and they did it anyway.
But now we're the bad guys, for simply enforcing our own damn laws as we try to deal with the massive hordes of foreign asylum scammers and welfare cheats and identity thieves and other frauds who are illegally entering our country by the tens of thousands every day, and costing U.S. taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars every year.
So sick of this bullshit.

One of the bigger myths currently going around is that most of these illegals are coming from Mexico. They aren't. They are coming through Mexico but the majority are coming from Honduras, El Salvador and points south.
They are traveling more than a couple hundred miles and they have no intention of trying to legally apply for asylum status. This is all a result of a concentrated effort during the Obama years to recruit people from Central America to violate our laws and come here illegally.

Maybe that's the disconnect I'm having with the people here calling me names for predicting the reality of where this will lead. I do not care what the political outcome will be - this is not a game to me.
Families will be reunited and then released after 20 days if their asylum claims cannot be adjudicated (which they cannot due to the number of claims). Someone will sue and a Federal Judge will order those families released.

If we get to the 20 day mark, I believe the administration can revoke it's agreement with the 20 year old consent decree in Flores vs Reno, and then everything goes back to Federal Court to get hashed out.

Thank you Brian! Someone upthread asked for this. That is the official, US Government publication, available online, that tells anyone who wants to come here how to apply for asylum, and which also states that ANYONE who crosses the border can apply, not just those who cross at entry points.

Me personally, I was calling him out for saying the EO ***had to*** say something that I didn't think it had to say---that it ***had to*** release minors after 20 days, Because Consent Decree.
Now, however, if they go back to the judge and ask to have the consent decree changed, that does put a different spin on things, doesn't it?
For one thing, it removes Hawaiian Judge from the picture, at least until Flores Judge gets a crack at it.

A lot of them will try to get asylum in the U.S., because it's extremely lucrative. If the judge grants it, not only the applicant, but his entire family, gets asylum. And once they get asylum they are entitled to get SS cards and the full panoply of U.S. welfare benefits, including SSI income, TANF, WIC, housing assistance, Medicaid, prescription drug benefits, and on and on and on. It's thousands of dollars a month in "free" goodies, courtesy of U.S. taxpayers.
And making the asylum claim has another benefit (even for the illegal aliens who don't plan to follow through and show up for the asylum hearing). Once the claim is made, the illegal is entitled to a hearing, and he/she/it gets released into the U.S. pending the hearing date, which is often set more than a year into the future. So just making the asylum claim guarantees the illegal that he/she/it will get a free pass to remain in the U.S. for a significant period of time, during which they can't legally be removed.
That's why Trump needs to stop all this asylum scamming and announce that from this point on, no asylum claims will be considered by the U.S. unless such claims were properly filed in a U.S. embassy or consulate. No more waltzing across the border, or to a U.S. port of call, and claiming asylum, just so the foreigner can then be released into the U.S.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that someone in the Trump administration knew immigration was going to be the only thing the dems had to run on this fall and he intentionally made it a hot button issue long before the elections so it would fade away quick after he made it an issue.

The EO says they have to follow the consent decree in as much as the AG has to ask a federal judge to set it aside. That ain't gonna happen. Either way it's going to the Supreme Court and that takes time and my money is those families being set free in the meantime. It could even lead to a constitutional crisis.

The Washington Examiner had an article the other day about how there has been a big uptick lately in Honduran men coming across the border with kids that they claim are theirs, but the documents that they produce to "prove" that they're related are phony.
If some reporter went down to Honduras, they could probably find some LaRaza type, Soros-funded group down there giving seminars to the locals on how to con the stupid gringos at the U.S. border. They're also probably the ones who are printing up the phony documents for the "parents."
There is a mind-boggling amount of fraud and scamming going on in connection with this third-world "migration" to the U.S. If Trump really wants to get more Americans on his side on this issue, he needs to get somebody to compile some of the statistics on how much all this "migration" bullshit is costing U.S. taxpayers every year. Conservative estimates already put it at over $100 billion a year, but it's probably a lot more than that. Obama hid the numbers from the American public, for all the obvious reasons, but Trump can and should expose this massive theft that is going on right under our noses.

When we first got married, my wife really wanted to vacation in Mexico. She didn't get why I strenuously objected. Sure, she said, there are dangerous parts, but if we just stick to the resort, we'll be fine.
Then I showed her article after article about events that happened on resort grounds or on the major roads to and from the resorts. I showed her how to look up Dept of State employee travel restrictions near the resorts.
Now anytime she talks about vacationing down there, she always adds the parenthetical, "but then I saw the news/travel restrictions and we just can't do it."

I've always preferred the dual trebuchet model. You put one leg in the trebuchet pointing southwest, one leg in the trebuchet pointing southeast. No recidivism that way. Plus, it provides the buzzards with a nutritious supply of internal organs.
