The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

America was the end result of a centuries-long filtering process that left insufficiently brave, motivated, entrepreneurial, hard working people to the vicissitudes of European life. There is a reason we left and they stayed, and I would prefer that we keep it that way. Much of the world's bounty is a result of the greatness of American Exceptionalism, and to dismiss it as an artifact or to demean it as merely a birthright is to insult the millions of people who sacrificed and sweated and bled and died to create the United States.

What a toad. He lives in a fine suburb, firmly ensconced in the ivory tower, where ignorant star-struck undergraduates worship at his feet. His greatest triumph is to impress 18-year-olds whose primary goal is to bang the hot chick in the third row of his lecture hall.

Maybe if he had any inkling of what it means to absorb third-world scum into his expensive town I would take him more seriously.

The joke is: What did socialists use before candles?

Electricity.

Nikki Haley For President 2024
Nikki Haley Pummels UN Human Rights Council
"For too long the human rights council has been a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias," Haley said, adding that calls from the U.S. for the council to reform have not been heeded. "The world’s most inhumane regimes continue to escape scrutiny, and the council continues politicizing and scapegoating of countries with positive human rights records in an attempt to distract from the abusers in their ranks."

This could not be happening in a better place. The schadenfreude is just delicious!
The First Burger Built by a Robot Is About to Hit the Bay Area
$15 entry-level, unskilled labor? Hah! And let's not pretend that hand-made fast-food burgers are any better. The reason they are relatively cheap and fast is that the production process is quite efficient, and based on low skill, low wage labor. Economics says that when low skill labor becomes expensive, alternatives appear. This is not rocket surgery, but apparently they don't teach Econ 1 any more.

Boy, I'm going back and forth on this Sales Tax Ruling. Kennedy's opinion delves way too much into policy decisions that it makes me think he is wrong. I think the problem is, Main Street WANTS sales tax from online retailers, even Republican small business owners.

They hate the competition.

So that whole Chamber of Commerce crowd will largely side with every state collecting a sales tax on every transaction. And of course Democrats will love any new tax to shower on their public sector unions.

So I see very little chance on the law changing and I think the SC decision basically says the states can override the Feds anyway.

As much as the ACLU's sanctimony annoys all of us some times, and some people all the time, you had to give it credit for remaining true to American values is defending obnoxious speech.

This is the organization that routinely defended KKK and Nazi sympathizers, all in order to make the point that free speech inoculates a culture against taking the kooks and scumbags too seriously. Now, with the change in policy, they won't defend speech that causes "serious harm" to "marginalized peoples" as of this new policy being adopted. The ACLU has lost it's way.

Since anyone can defend speech just slightly outside the mainstream this change means no one will actual free speech.

______________

That's probably the biggest question, can states force individual sellers to collect a sales tax or will it be on the platform itself that collects it?

My guess is almost every state will sue Ebay to collect it for them.

But anyone thinking that this new revenue means existing taxes will somehow go down is delusional. This money will be spent on new entitlements before it's even collected.

Nice and succinct. Me likey. I've been saying the same for a long time. One of the leftist's tricks is that they pose a false dichotomy. Either you overrun your nation with feral barbarians, OR you're an evil racist who wants to see brown children die. And they also lie. Remember the story about that Turkish idiot who got his son killed because he wanted free dental treatment in Germany? They spun it as him being a "refugee".

Listen to me here peeps.

First, Big Business was ALL IN on NAFTA ... because they were going to build their shiny new plants in Mexico, with that sweet, sweet Cheap Mexican Labor.

Well - here's the problem ... you've still got Mexican Infrastructure and Mexican Politics. Doing business there sucks ... as the big boys are finding out. I know - I've worked that country.

So - the Economist is going for the next best thing ... sweet, sweet Cheap Mexican Labor on US Soil with US Infrastructure and US Politics.

They don't give a fuck that, down the line, US Infrastructure and Politics will look like Mexico's. That's a problem for another revenue quarter.

And THAT'S why The Economist sounds so "Left".

That's not the half of it here in Cali. There are specific counties/local sales tax issues. Some are 8.25%. 8.5%. or 9% as and example. Imagine tracking your sale to various localities and then filing said paperwork. They truly do not understand what they have unleashed. Assuming it is to where it is shipped - thus technically "sold" there - and not where shipped from.

Willowed from down below.

The purchaser of an online item pays the sales tax. The tax is collected by the seller of the online item and sends the tax to the state the purchaser is purchasing from. So whatever state you live in, the items you purchase online can be taxed at your state's rate, collected from you at the time of purchase and then sent by the retailer to your state treasurer. Just like it is done now when you show up at Johnny's Fish and Fur and buy a new rod and reel.

So whatever state you live in, the items you purchase online can be taxed at your state's rate, collected from you at the time of purchase and then sent by the retailer to your state treasurer. Yes, but that's because the law in question does not prohibit this. The Court basically created a physical presence rule and has now overturned it. Perhaps all the Court did was overturn a precedent it should never have issued. Now collecting is different because then you get into areas of personal jurisdiction. Not sure how this case will affect that area of the law.

But to pretend that we can somehow meld the populations of ANY two countries, and not end up with a society that looks like an average composite of the two countries, is the kind of bullshit sold to those without the education needed to grasp the concepts ... as well as those with so much fucking education that they can rationalize how it will turn out to be different.

Rationalization being one of those nice, fancy words people prefer to the much more descriptive and accurate phrase "bullshit themselves".

Say what you will - I'm putting that in my Top Ten Rants.

Yeah I think they had a winning position with the "RIPPED FROM MOTHERS" lie, because a lot of people emotionally reacted to that and had bad feelz, it was compelling. Even knowing what they were doing and why -- even knowing the kids were better off in these housing facilities for a few weeks than they had been months previously -- it was a struggle, it felt wrong. Even knowing that every nation on earth does the same thing, because its the only sane thing to do, it felt bad.

Haley had nothing to do with statues. She was at the UN when that little brouhaha flared up.

Really, this whole "Haley is just Jeb in a dress" bit is tiring.

I admit to being a bit of a fanboi for her (right after Romney delivered his concession speech I started pushing Walker/Haley 2016) but this is a thing that bothers the crap out of me.

Haley was one of Palin's Mama Grizzlies. She is for lower taxes, pro 2A, against abortion, and appointed Tim Scott to the Senate when Jim Demint bailed. And she is not bad looking for a politician, which is shallow, but not nothing.

What she gets criticism for is removing the Confederate flag from the State House grounds in the wake of that shitbird shooting people in the church in Charleston.

And, sorry, its a Democrat flag and I say let them have it. A Democrat put it over the State House in 1965, and a Republican removed it from the dome to the gorunds, and then another Republican (Haley) retired it to the State Museum.

If we are going to toss someone who supported all the right things as a Republican state legislator and as Governor, and has been a smash hit as Ambassador to the UN, well, then we deserve what we get.

Posted by: SturmToddler

Since this ruling was about a South Dakota law, that law exempts small out of state sellers with less than $100k per year sales in the state, or less than 200 transactions per year.

But since each state can make their own laws, some states (like CA, hahahahaha) will try and enforce the tax on EVERYBODY, if history is any guide.

292 Now birthright is a sin? Somehow all the evil white capitalists manage to get born in technologically advanced, stable, free societies that value the individual. There's something fishy going on. White people rigged the system again.

I have every intention of creating a fake plug that would clip to the fuel filler door of the car. Claim the car was converted. And that no, they can't look, it's a proprietary design.

Folks ... you show me how any combination of either Open Trade and/or Open Borders can result in anything other than an "averaging" of the economic and/or socio-economic prospects of the two parties involved. I'll wait.

Posted by: ScoggDog at June 21, 2018 12:28 PM (fiGNd)

I believe that is exactly what the One World Globalists intend to accomplish. It's not possible to raise Mexico to the level of the United States, or Libya to the level of Germany, so all nations and populations are in the process of being "averaged".

It is unspeakably evil.

304 What they don't seem to understand is the underlying infrastructure that allows them to live so well is tended and improved by those with education paid for by their hard work.

The people that want to come here so badly are bereft of even the basic education necessary to make USE of the infrastructure let alone maintain it and improve it.

If sufficient number of the uneducated arrive here forcing out the so called birthright people then their fine houses and high resale value along with other accoutrements will sink into the same level of festering feculent slums that exist where these people come from. Instead of staying in their homeland and improving on it they choose to come here and reap rewards that are undeserved and that they couldn't supply for themselves on their own.

So no butt head we're tired of you telling us how great diversity is when all we see are crime, disease, overcrowding and increased taxes.

306 Anyone ever covertly stuff banana peels, wads of paper, and other such
stuff up the tailpipes of said leftist owned vehicles in the dead of
night? Asking for a friend.

If you use a potato larger then the exhaust pipe, the cutout drops in the muffler. Then when the car is beboping down the road, it will plug the exhaust and kill the engine. Car rolls to a stop. Potato then drop back in the muffler and the car will start and run. Until .... reset, again..and again. Hilarity will ensue.

Or, so I am told.

Jackie of Northwestern needs to go travel the world..

Not to the nice tourist places, but really travel.

Most of the world IS a shit hole, made so by the people who live there, and the governments THEY created.

To paraphrase the Hungarian President, Export Help, don't Import trouble.

I was merchant marine for forty years. Believe me no matter how bad you think poverty might be in the US, if you haven't traveled outside the US except as a tourist: you ain't seen nothing yet. At least 75% of the world outside America is a complete and utter shit hole. Some very fine, hardworking people live in those places but their governments keep them down to stay in power.

308 if that happens, a soft landing will need to be found for Mike Pence.

I dont think the very decent but unspectacular and too-easily mockable Pence has the cultural awareness and communicative toughness required to successfully navigate the next several presidential cycles as the head of my party, to the point that he could win the nomination on "Its His Turn" then lose big to another identity-politics-only but charismatic and culturally connected Dem nominee promising a Bolivaran paradiso.

I believe Nikki Haley can beat such a Demo, Pence I dont think he can.

309 Greetings:

I recently finished reading T.R. Fehrenbach's "Lone Star: A history of Texas and the Texans". It was published in the late '60s, before the Prog-Rule took hold and it holds up extremely well. If you or yours want to learn about American Exceptionalism, it's a darn good place to start.
